I Completely Blew My Budget At This Massive 350 Table Card Show!!

- I usually set a budget before going to a card show. I USUALLY stay within the budget that I set, but sometimes, I don't. There were so many amazing tables, deals, and cards at this show, that I blew my budget out of the water. I had several vintage baseball card pickups, among other items that I went home with. I think you'll be amazed at the quality of the cards in some of these cases, and I hope you'll enjoy seeing some of my deals along the way. This time, I even share one of my Dad's pickups at the show, as we had a great time checking out the massive variety of modern, vintage, football, baseball, and basketball cards.

First and foremost, the time spent with your dad is irreplaceable. I love that part the most. So check that box. That dealer with all the 70s cards should give PSA their walking papers. Their number grades mean nothing.

I've said it before, and I love all of your videos, but your card show videos are awesome. It's the closest, for me, to actually being at the show. You got some really nice cards at this show, and I felt the prices were excellent.

Beautiful pickups! Love the card your dad got. I use to love to go to shows with my dad. That Eddie Murray rc was so nice. Cepeda is a great ttm, I sent my rc to him and it's signed beautifully. Through the mail he's 20 dollars. Thanks for taking us to the show.
I've thought about sending to Cepeda. He's a good guy and lives about 15 minutes from where I grew up as a kid.
I definitely thought you were going to buy the Nettles 1975 Topps but, I get it. The Eddie Murray RC similar to Ozzie Smith. Both iconic cards, and is difficult to find ones, in high grade, with really good centering.
I really like the 1958 Topps All-Star cards. You got a pretty good deal. And the Mantle 1960 Topps all-star as well. Over the recent comps, with the 1963 Mays. Past 2 sales, were in PSA 5, $193.50 and $214.51, but it does present pretty well, and that's true about the taxes and fees, so I understand your reasoning for sure. Great purchases and video.
I almost pulled the trigger on that Nettles. I have two or three of that card already, or else I would have.
That 69 Clemente looked soo good for that grade. I wish there was this much vintage dealers at Omaha or Des Moines card shows.

To no surprise with the new PSA slab grades you were looking at, they looked better! That ‘57 Mantle looked better than a 3. I just bought one raw-they are very hard to find centered. I might send mine to SGC as I fear it will come back a 3 from PSA after looking at the one you showed. I think mine’s a 4-4.5. It’s perfectly centered with a very minor, small surface wrinkle. And you learned your lesson, can’t go to a show like that and not blow your budget😊
That 57 Mantle is a legendary card with the air brushing of "Ruth's Ghost" in the background.
(running commentary) I always wanted that JYD action figure myself - even though “thump” was missing from his trunks. I had my eyes on those two 71 Reggie’s you had in your hands. My guess was 300 for managers dream and Mays together (almost!). I love that you told that dealer the Mays all star was missing a dot - and he disagreed! That’s some transparent negotiation! I love it all Graig - including the deal your pops got. Well done!!
I ALMOST got that 71 Reggie. It's my absolute favorites of his cards, and that one looked like an 8 to me. He was asking $100. He probably would've dropped to $85, which is right at comps. But in that condition, I think that's a good deal. It was GORGEOUS!!
That looked like an incredible show, and great pickups. Couldn't help notice that one of the dealers had a Dick Butkus rookie card. Sadly, Dick Butkus died yesterday. Also noticed a dealer had a 1958 Ted Williams. I didn't realize until recently that's one of his last Topps cards as a player (believe he also has a 1958 All Star card in that set).
Yes, agreed. I believe he has a Manager card, but last Topps playing days card, yeah.
@@MidLifeCards Just did quick Google search, and it turns out Ted Williams has four Topps cards as a manager, 1969-1972.

Love these videos at the shows. The prices even though they seem to be coming down some sure still seem out of site. Boy the grading has gotten tough, even with my last submission to SGC. Those 1970s cards looked better than the grade. Your buys looked under graded too. Enjoy your pickups and do not lose sleep going over budget

Nice pick ups. They sure did look under graded! Funny you blew past your budget at 2 tables. We didn’t even get to see the other 348 😂
80% of the tables were modern cards, but yeah...i don't have a big budget, so just a couple of buys put me over my max.
That $1 binder was crazy i would have git the whole thing 😂😂

At a show back in the late 80's, (way before grading existed) I paid $20 for that Mays AS in similar condition. Probably the best deal I ever received. (Regret cleaning him out, because I remember he had more! )
A time machine would score me a lot of great deals.
I wish that I could have had you grab me some of the wrestling cards. I originally had 2 packs unopened Andre the Giant is the first card to the set that is why it's so expensive in condition

Yeah, I am with you on PSA hammering cards...have you seen that they introduced AI into their grading over the past year? Turner talks about it in a video and how much faster, how it can better detect centering and can see creases that a human eye can't even see with a loupe? So, he said their standards are still the same but with the introduction of AI, their grades are MUCH stricter!!! I am going to be interested to see how it impacts pricing because a PSA 8 two years ago could be a PSA 6 today. I think AI will eventually take over card grading and then grading companies will have to offer additional services to differentiate between themselves. But to your point, PSA is CRUSHING their grades. Those Mays were so sweet! Super nice pick ups!
AI and grading are going to be something to watch closely, for sure.

Great pickup, it seems Clemente is becoming more and more sought after. Probably my favorite pull was a Clemente game used bat. Diamond cuts 56.

I gulped when I saw two 1954 Ernie Banks rookies in that dollar binder. Oh right, reprints. Still, for a buck. Less than a buck when you haggle down for the pile.

Was there on Friday. It was pretty dead only about 1/2 of vendors were even set-up. Seemed better when you were there.
My Dad went down on Friday and then went back with me on Saturday. He said the same thing.

I've sent to Dickerson in the past, with a $10 bill inside, and 6-8 weeks later I got the card back signed.

Btw, love that 71 Reggie card too. Noticed that graders are unforgiving on those 71’s. I’ve seen commons in 8’s and 9’s selling for insane prices since there are so few that get those higher grades.
If I were you I’d crack those out and send them to Sgc. Man great cards. Definitely grade up by one or two each card.

The crowds were lighter than last time. Which was good for buyers but bad for dealers. The weather was beautiful though, so that may be why.
Graig, do you remember the Wrestling cartoon in the mid 80’s on Saturday morning? I remember every time JYD would come on screen, they would start playing ‘Another One Bites The Dust.’

That miscellaneous box wastes time. They should categorize better. A steal on the Clemente. I was shocked when he said $100.
I was shocked as well when he said $100. It is a waste of time that they aren't organized, but also makes them extra exciting, because you never know what you're going to find.
The mays borders are off white. That's why it graded low. If the borders were brighter it would of been a 7

Lovely cards. PSA is just being overly harsh with vintage. I've seen plenty of recently 5s and 6s that are just lovely and are total head scratches.....at the very least 7s.....SGC has also gotten pretty harsh as of late. I recently picked up a Bob Lemon 1948 Team Issue and that card looks an 8 all day long.....but SGC gave it a 6.....razor sharp corners, clean surface, great centering, clean surface....the 6 makes no sense..
Yeah. I'm not sure what changed, but something is different in the grading standards, for sure.
The toploaders were worth the same as the cards 😂

I would crack those and send those to SGC theybwould grade it correctly and it would be worth more. SGC doesn't pop control

That's why those grades are so low PSA and their pop control antics. You have to be an executive for PSA to get a high grade with those cards. Fact those cards should be 6-7 on sine if those
If there's really pop control, I'm shocked there hasn't been a whistle blower to come out, yet.

The seller bought a complete set. He had three of them graded and all came back authentic and with numeric grades.

Psa overrated and inconsistent damn shame on some of those vintage baseball cards.
There's definitely a growing group that are frustrated with PSA. Hopefully they can win back some of the people that are frustrated.
