I sort cards, prep grading orders, and watch YT videos at night. Your channel is on my list. I am sitting here, and I'm like, "I know Justin," and I sent him a msg on FB and this link, haha. And some of the cards you saw at his table I slabbed! I'm like, "yep I slabbed that one and sold it to Justin, that one too..." lol. How's that for a small world!
That's awesome. Great story, and thanks for sharing!! That's the thing about the card collecting community. It's not that big, and we all contribute to each other in different ways.
I need some help prepping cards for grading... any advice on who or what to follow. Any chance you are near Sacramento? I am just too nervous as it seems like every time I touch my cards I inflict a minute amount of damage. It's usually from aggressively sliding a card back into a penny sleeve or something like that.
@@Mvp-7 I live near Sacramento. True Sports cards and collectibles is a card shop in Rocklin. They’re good guys up there and I know they do grading prep and group submission. Check out their store and ask them about it. They’re also putting in a big 3 day show in May. Tell them I recommended you to them.
@@MidLifeCards Already all over that card show after I missed the one in the fall as my car died the week before and had to dump my card money into my car :( If that is the card shop across from Dick's I've been there once and had a great time going through their boxes. I live in Grass Valley so its a little bit of a hike but I will definitely look into them for group submissions and the prep. Do you know if they will crack BCCG slabs? Thank you for your time.
The thing I love most about the T-206's (besides the historical significance) are the great names of some of the common players most have never heard of. Tubby Spencer, Hooks Wiltse, Doc Crandell, Red Dolin, Rube Geyer, etc. Love it.
I couldn't agree more. One of them is named "Molly Miller" which is my daughter's name. I have a feeling I'll end up buying a "Molly Miller" t206 at some point. Great point!! It was a completely different era.
Hi... Just discovered your channel this evening. I totally enjoyed your video. Our taste in cards is a lot alike!! I am going to a show this weekend here in Charlotte. I may buy a T206 just to have one in my collection!! Thanks again
Awesome!! Appreciate you watching and commenting. Having a T206 or two just seems like being "part" of it. I think I'm going to snag a few soon too, just to have them. They're like historical artifacts at this point. And they're over 100 years old!! Have fun at the show!!
I totally agree. I'm lucky that the Sacramento show and this show, both of which are quarterly, have such a great selection of Vintage cards. So much fun.
This looks like an AWESOME show and I was actually born in Concord in the 80’s and lived there through the 90’s and they had ZERO CARD SHOWS. Great breakdown and fantastic vintage
Appreciate it. Thanks. You'll have to check out that show sometime. It's not that far from where you live now...not close, but worth checking it out sometime.
Holy mackerel, what a great show with all the great vintage, those t206s , so many of them. Here on the east coast, I don’t see much vintage at the local shows and the prices are a good bit higher here as well. If I was at that show I would be there all day looking at all that awesome vintage.
Me too. I collect a handful of new stuff, but 95% of my focus is vintage. It has lasting value, the players are iconic, and the cards are like historic artifacts. New cards still smell like plastic.
Really enjoyed the video. Was there a name or information about this particular show to follow in the future. I heard you in the comments. Say this show a lot but not sure how to find out about future shows. I have about half the T206 set and it's much harder to build it now. Prices are much higher and the pops aren't.
This show is held about 4 times per year. The next one is April 15 and April 16. Their website is www.eastbaycardshow.com and the also are on Instagram.
As a vintage collector, this was a delightful video to watch. As a set collector, I had idiotic thoughts about putting together the T206 set fifteen years ago and after acquiring about 40% of the set, I gave up as prices went through the roof. There are sixteen different backs (not stamps) and depending on which cigarette pack it came from depends on the value. I have a handful, but sold the rest to buy other cards.
Wow. Taking on a t206 set sounds like a large undertaking. Understandable why you had to pull the rip cord. All of the different backs makes it seem overwhelming to say the least. But, they do interest me, so I'm going to start doing more reading about them to better understand the different backs and stuff. Appreciate you comment.
Appreciate the kind words. It was a lot of fun meeting up with people at the show. Thanks for saying hey. If you ever see me at a show in the future, make sure you throw something at me to get my attention if I'm in the zone, which I tend to do. Lol. Hope the show went well for you.
I'm pretty sure it's April 15 and 16. I usually use the sports collector's digest calendar to fill out my show calendar and know when shows are coming. They're also on instagram: @eastbaycardshow if you want to follow them. Really nice group of people that put on the event.
Great video! I was tempted by those autos as well and had similar thoughts about their size. Thank you for the kind words and exposure! It was great talking with you and your dad stopped by later as well. It was definitely a great weekend!
Glad you found me on here. Your inventory is incredible. I know how much collectors love the stuff that you have, and want to help you and them connect. Hopefully some collectors will reach out to you as a result of this video. Ultimately, the card collecting community is exactly that...a community. Anything I can do to help you out or other collectors, and I'm all for it. Hoping to see you around and more card shows in the future. I LOVE looking through your inventory. I know there's a big 3 day show in Rocklin/Roseville in May. It's supposed to have something like 20 autograph signers. Maybe I'll see you up there. Don't hesitate to reach out if there's ever anything I can do to help out. :-)
It's so interesting that you asked that. I don't, but I like them a lot. I really a like of the early 1900 and late 1800s non sport stuff a lot. It may be the History geek in me or the fact that they're over 100 years old. But, to answer your question, no...I don't. But I have made offers on some and bid on some. :-)
There is so much cool non sports out there. In that case there were 3 stooges cards, Superman stuff, Garbage Pail Kids, and all sorts of stuff. More than anything, that dealer was such a cool guy. Tons of knowledge and stories. He does some mall shows in the Bay Area from time to time. He said his wife sells vintage toys, so sometimes they'll do mall toy shows and both attend together. :-)
Thank you for sharing your experience at the card show and providing Justin info. That T206 collection is impressive! I have a general question at these shows. Do they sell any high end raw cards, that are not graded? Do sellers take credit card, paypal or venmo?
Great questions. Every dealer is different. Some sell only graded stuff. Some sell only raw stuff. Some have some raw and some graded. I'd say 85-90% of the "expensive" cards are graded nowadays at card shows. But, yes...you can still find ungraded high end cards at card shows. Some dealers take paypal and/or venmo. But, there have been some changes in the tax law over the last year or two where many times dealers don't want to, or have a different price they'll take because of the tax implications. At the end of the day, to answer your question...yes, there is some raw stuff available and I'd say about half of the dealers take some form of electronic payment at card shows.
They do it quarterly. If you follow them on instagram @eastbaycardshow or look on the sports collector's digest website and look at the Card Show calendar, you'll see when they're coming. Pretty sure the next one is April 15 and 16. I won't be able to attend that one though. My wife's birthday is the 15th and my daughter is attending a Soccer ID Camp on the 16th. But usually most of the same dealers attend. I hope this helps. :-)
That first or 2nd vintage guy was extremely high on prices. That’s what I usually run into at these shows. Obviously you can get deals, but most of these dealers are just too proud of their cards. I mean a Gibson psa 2 asking $600….that’s almost double what they go for.
Fair point. Sometimes asking prices are just a starting point. But you're right, there are always going to be some cards that are overpriced. But there are deals out there too!!
@@MidLifeCards Definitely, funny I remember the non-sports card table. I was looking for 1953-1955 Mays cards. I saw a few but none that made me pull the trigger.
I'm not 100% sure which dealer that case was attached to. It may have been a dealer named Dion. He's on instagram and his company is "The Card Attic." If you search @thecardattic on Instagram, I think you'll find him. I believe he's based out of Vallejo. He's a great guy. He has tons of autos like that. If it wasn't his case, it was the dealer next to him, who I know he's friendly with, so he'd be able to connect you. There was a really nice Willie Mays auto in that case too.
You've gotta make it to a show. They're so much fun. I look foward to them all week when I know I have one on the weekend. You're absolutely right about the Ruth. That is by far the most expensive. I often don't even think about that one being part of the set because he's so unaffordable. Good call.
This show is in Concord California. About 45 or so minutes from SF. The Sacramento area card show that is held quarterly also has a lot of vintage, but I've never seen this many t206 cards.
I hate to see so many Rose rookies signed. I love the comp pop ups. T206 only issue I must have in SGC. They made a bjillion T206 cards. Check out Obaks, graphics are better than T206. That Spahn is a work of art, Wow.
