Bodycam DUI Arrest - Drunk 18-Year-Old Drives on University Campus Sidewalk

- On September 7, 2023, Rowan University Police Officers spotted a vehicle driving on a sidewalk within the campus boundaries. Patrolman Lehm initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and immediately noticed an open container of alcohol on the passenger floorboard. When a backup officer arrived, the 18-year-old driver was asked to step out of the vehicle to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was subsequently arrested for DUI (and a whole slew of other charges) and transported to the Rowan University Police Headquarters. She submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.08% BAC. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
They're just pulling over every kid drunk driving down the sidewalk these days
No fun at all...

Profiling!
Disgraceful!
Thank you for behaving like an adult during your arrest...
You never know when these young ones will brake bad!
Seriously, so many of these young people flip out and act like psych patients. At least she was rational.
Amazing isn't it. lol I guess the fact she
's not black with warrants, makes the difference.
In the old days college girls could’ve provided services to get out of the charges!

Because she is sober )
@@zoomer9686 zoomer...old boomer
right, and when you act like that, you don't get the cops all amped up, and then what do you know, the cops are actually pretty cool in return
She also stood on foot longer than I can sober lol. And I didn't like how they didn't have video for the breath test. We'll just take their word for it huh.
By the time they give her the breath test she’ll be sober
she is incapable of answering a question without giving an enormous amount of excess information
The cops need to bring back the old saying from Dragnet: "Just the facts ma'am".
it is called deflection
“He always dreamed of owning a goat farm.”
Or being drunk
Very common tactic of people who are lying. To people telling the truth, the truth itself is all that matters and there's no need to embellish or add details or try to deflect from the subject.
Since liars create lies in their heads, they build extra walls and guards around them in the form of excess or useless information in the hopes whoever is asking them about said lie doesn't break down those walls or see through them to the actual truth.
For someone telling the truth, they want to mentally get to that as quickly as possible because to them it 'shall set them free'. A liar wants the focus to be on anything but.
YOU have the right to remain SILENT! FAIL!
But not the ability...
As soon as he opened the door I knew they were cooked 😂
Open container + underage possession + BAC under 21 she was completely screwed might as well cooperate and let them get their overtime.
Why don’t they go straight for the breath test? All this alphabet, watch the pen and steps is a waste of time and resources.
The breath test only detects alcohol. They're looking for impairment from ANY substance including prescription medications.
The blame lies with the sleazy lawyers that find any technicality to get their obviously guilty clients off. Cops have to build a much tighter bundle of evidence these days because of it.
I don't care I would let her go, because she is Hot and good-looking!!
Because they can arrest you for driving while intoxicated or driving under the influence if you fail those tests even if you blow lower than the legal limit. Or if there are substances other than alcohol involved.
@@mortekaieve4729 hmm..don’t think so given how many get let go or have light sentences imposed. Ppl can fight that if they blow zero and test with no substances..
The biggest crime in this video is how her friend held that pen while signing for her. Lock her up for 10 to life for that.
Wow. I've seen some strange ways people hold a pen, but that one looks like a bird perching on a line. This is happening because we're transitioning from handwriting to computer inputting. If she had to extensively handwrite documents, she would learn how to properly hold a pen because her current method would be painful to hold for any length of time. I grew up in the 80's, so I was somewhat used to handwriting, though, within the past 25 years, I've maybe had the need to handwrite only my signature or jot some shorts notes and lists. My main method of textually communicating or documenting has been texting/emailing or typing on the computer. It's possible handwriting will be abandoned in the next one hundred years.
I was looking for a comment about that. You are the first one. 😂
im 64 and can still remember being taught how to hold a pen
im thinking from the hundreds of videos ive watched where random people are filmed writing there is no learning to hold a pen these days
I don't know how she could even write anything like that
That was bizarre! I feel like most 3 year olds have a better technique than that girl had. Ten to life for her and whoever taught her how to do that.
😊 ✌🏻
She didn't seem too drunk to me. I tried those test sober and did about the same as her.
Yes! Because drunk but not too drunk to drive is a real safe subsection of the states of drunkenness. Go milk a bull.
She's too drunk for someone under 21 driving down a sidewalk.
Notice that when the cops demonstrate the straight line test, they only take 3 steps and on the one foot balance test only demonstrate for about 3 seconds. Surely because most of them would fail it as well. FSTs and nothing but a trap.
$33 dollar penalty. That will teach her not to drink underage.
What a joke.
The only thing this taught her was that there really isn't any accountability for her actions. No wonder people go on to get multiple DUI's.
She's 18, she can drink

The friend never learned how to hold a pen
She got a 33 dollar fine, and 12 hours of drunk driving school? WTF!!! My first, and only, DUI over 15 years ago. I had to pay over 1700 dollars, spend 9 months in DUI school, and pay 150 to get my license back.
Even thats not bad! I got one last year, over 10k in fines and attorney fees and 6 months in schooling and 50 hours com service and then fines to get license back! Only gotta learn that lesson once, never again!
I ended paying $5900 and spent five days in jail for missing court on a expired tag ticket and driving on suspended license. I didn't even know it was suspended, because I forgot about the court date. I paid that much for an expired sticker, and drunk drivers pay a fraction of that and get no jail time. Amazing.
Welcome to Jersey. DUI is not a criminal offense in NJ
Handled the whole procedure as an adult but gave away too much information. Made the case too easy for the police. Remember they are not your friends .
“If you five an ambiguous answer it will be taken as a refusal “ Finally clear instructions and terms and conditions. Also if they pretend they can’t blow into breathalyzer is considered a refusal.
The fact she thinks this is a joke is disturbing to me. She’s driving drunk, putting lives at risk and to her it’s no big deal. I don’t just blame her , I blame the legal system for making it a joke. Maybe the DAs and judges should have to respond to fatal DUI crashes to see the damage they cause.
I've had 3 accidents sober. Zero accidents drunk. Statistically I'm putting lives much safer drunk than I am sober

It's amazing to me how students often think that the University Police at colleges are only 'security officers'. Not at all. In most cases, at nearly all state-affiliated colleges/universities, the University Police are actually STATE police with full jurisdictional authority. So, you are dealing with someone along the lines of a State Trooper. And while many/most of these officers are very nice and understanding that they're dealing (mostly) with kids, that will quickly change if you are rude to them or treat them as though they have no authority.
Word on the street is she's still saying her ABCs 🤗

There's a reason the police have lost all respect of the people they were supposed to be serving. They act like it's a mystery how it happened. Yes, bad apples and all that. But the bad apples spoil the bunch when the blue wall of silence protected them for decades before body cams came along to tell the tale.
No, not if the stop everyone. Profiling is picking and choosing who to stop.

The officer read her her Miranda rights and then asked her if she wanted to speak to them, and she clearly said NO. Then the officer starts questioning her on things that will 100% be used against her in court. And she failed to remain silent. lol.
Wrong, a few moments later she clarifies that she was saying no because she thought she was being asked 'Do you have any questions for us?' then she indicates that she's willing to talk.
@@Clearlight201 WRONG! She clearly said no, and then was asked a couple of more times to clarify that she understood and she didn't want to speak with them, and she said yes and she was sure. And by law that was where the officer was supposed to leave it, but they didn't, the one officer spoke up immediately and said to her that "Honestly, It doesn't even apply, we're not interviewing you, that is more for an interviewing process".
@@calvinh.8882 you're confused, I wasn't discussing whether the cops have integrity or not, and neither were you in your first comment. If you leave it to cops to play fair in an interview you've FAILED. The whole point of the rights is it's on you to shut your mouth and keep it shut. I say she talked voluntarily, you say she was tricked, but either way it was on her to keep her gob shut if she wanted to. As your own first comment says, she failed to do this. Expecting police to play fair is like expecting rain not to be wet 😅
I found that whole display appalling. One cop just couldn't resist interfering while the first cop was trying to conduct the tests; even to the extent of repeating the instructions WHILE she was performing the tests. It didn't seem like ANYONE was taking the situation seriously, including the cops. They seemed more interested in flirting. I'm sure that experience really taught HER a lesson. BTW Was the cop who interviewed her at the station on something?
Now I have to watch better.
After zero consequences, we will be seeing her again.
Zero consequences? What did you expect to happen? She did not hit a person or property. She was not caught speeding. I know what could have happened, but if we jail people for what could happen then ...well a lot of folks would be behind bars. She paid a small fine, had to take come course and do community service. Again, what exactly did you expect to happen? An orange jump suit?
