The damage is already done. Once he put this crap on the internet, it will never go away. 8-20 years isn't enough.
20 years would be a pretty long time to sit in prison, actually. As despicable as his crimes are, it's also important not to overdo it on sentencing just because we have these strong emotional reactions. That's 8-20 years he will never get back, at least, and might just be enough time for him to get over it and never try this sort of thing again.

Those videos will forever be replayed by creeps and sadistic individuals such like the one who planted the camera. You’ll never know the true pain and vulnerability put onto a person when their personal photos and information are aired out online without your knowledge/consent. It follows you.
Edit: ESPECIALLY when they’re profiting off of your vulnerability. This man wasn’t only posting them, he was SELLING them. To have someone profit off of innocent victims having their privacy violated is extremely sadistic. He has 0 regard for anyone and should be kept away from society. I own a business that employes about 120 people, of the 120, about 40 are women. My business is split between two buildings on the same property, there are downstairs and upstairs bathrooms in both buildings. The upstairs bathrooms are really only used by the women. I had one of the younger , part time women (shes 19) come SPRINTING into my office one day because she found a teeny, tiny camera IN THE TOILET, positioned at the back of the toilet, under the seat, so the only thing the camera could see when you were sitting on the toilet was...well..you get it. I immediately ran up to the bathroom to get the camera as I was on the phone with the police, but the camera was gone. The police showed up, a detective, and questioned everyone, checked all the bathrooms etc to no avail. I went back and looked at my cameras and sure enough, i found one of my male employees coming out of that bathroom, camera in hand (he had a feed of video to his phone, so he saw when the 19 year old noticed it and ran up to grab it as soon as she left). The cops went to his home and took his phone, computers, cameras etc. He'd been doing this for MONTHS, over 6 months actually, in all of the womens rooms. He had HOURS of footage. I fired him, obviously, and he was arrested. For violating the privacy of myself and my female employees, posting things on the internet, just being a generally disgutsing and pathetic human, he was given two years of probation. Thats it. The criminal justice system is a joke.

Knowing those images of you are out there online and not knowing how many sickos saw ot downloaded them, whether they will reappear online at some point... there's some twisted MF'ers in the comments defending him as only being a voyeur... ignoring thee non-consent, filming children, and that he was apparently distributing and selling victims videos and private info he dragged up from FB etc? Anyone defending that is as sick as he is.

The fact it took this long for anyone to report him. These videos were being shared online; other people absolutely knew about him but were the same kind of person so they either didn't see anything wrong with it, were the exact target audience for this sick kind of thing, or didn't want to get involved and just let him keep doing it...
i'd guess he watched it out of a weird curiosity but felt bad about it so he called it in. Still that must've been hard on him cuz watching that kind off stuff is also illegal

A hotel doesn't do a criminal background check on an employee who has access to every room in the building! CRAZY!
He wasn't charged with anything at that time, he was released under investigation because they don't have any evidence until the electronics can be examined and evidence gathered. He had no criminal record when he had that job, at least none from this incident. Also hotel employees do not have access to every room in the building, they carry section keys which only work on certain floors and they don't work if you lock the door from the inside.
Since he's working at the front desk he likely only has access to that floor. He could make a key to a room and use it but that would leave a very obvious trail and you're not supposed to do that obviously so he'd be fired.

My sister caught this guy years ago at a park in Ypsilanti , peeping at her through a porta john wall . She chased and other ppl helped catch him . He's been doing this for years and is known to a lot of people in the area . Hope this helps expose him on a national level and he's givin some real time .

Usually if you do a quick check of your environment you can tell if it's safe. He did do this in a work bathroom for employees only so it was a lot easier for him to do this. Just look around for any electronics including chargers or clocks, weird holes in walls or doors and think about if it would be convenient for someone to actually place a camera there or not like in a mall bathroom or something because it's so high traffic and usually only female cleaners clean the womens toilets it's very unlikely to have a camera but something like a gas station bathroom or hotel bathroom is a lot more likely to have one inside.

Since I don’t hear about this type of crime that much I honestly forgot that this does happen. Thanks again for those tips. I’m going to incorporate this into my checklist while out and about.

Also if you're ever feeling unsure about something you can always just cover it with toilet paper or hand towels or if it's a hole or something that looks like a camera and u need something to stick to it use gum ik it sounds gross but I'd rather leave a mess and be safe than to worry about being recorded and photographed especially with kids

The fact that a guy who needs to work two jobs was able to pay his $100k bail makes me think the money came from the stash he had from selling images and videos of his victims 😡

The two jobs were just means to obtain the material he sold to make those $100k, pay equipment, and live his sick life.
They only make you pay 10% and you don’t get it back, or you can go to a bail bondsman and get your mama to sign her house for you.
To get out of jail only requires paying 10% of the amount specified, so he only had to pay $10k on his $100k bail. The other $90K would be paid by the co-signer if he skipped out.

He’s likely only required to pay ten percent of that 100k to get out of jail. He’ll owe the other 90% if he misses his next court date.

This happened to me in own house. Someone I was dating who lived there with me had a secret camera in my bathroom floor. I found an old phone when he wasn’t there and found a live streaming app. There was a time stamp for the first time it was used and it was the same day I threw a party for my friends and HIS siblings. One of the most traumatizing things to ever happen to me. The police did nothing and said he was allowed to have cameras anywhere he wanted because he lived there.

There are company’s who will post bond on your behalf
You essentially take out a loan with a bondsman who then covers the bond and you pay him back for it
Because to get out on a bond you only have to pay a portion of the total so he only had to pay like a thousand bucks. I had a 1000 dollar bond for a dui and it only cost me 100 dollars to pay bond and get out.

8 to 20 is no slap on the wrist. Probably more time than he would have gotten than in any other country. His crime was terrible, but you can’t just lock people up and throw away the key. I think society would be better served if we tried to rehabilitate people like this rather than warehouse them. I just don’t understand why the US has to lock up more people than the rest of the western world combined. And I certainly don’t understand people who want even more people locked up for longer. It doesn’t work.

i worked at one of the places effected by this, absolutely devastating. the police came in to the cafe one day and one of my coworkers was informed that they were identified in the footage. he had taken footage from within the single stall restrooms. we all felt so violated. all of us were in our early twenties or younger, a couple underage, not even mentioning the age of the unsuspecting guests :( we would change into our work clothes and stuff in here, really the only place in the cafe that felt private at the time. no way of knowing if you were recorded and posted online or not unless you were identified in the footage.

Something like this happened when I was in high school 10 years ago. A female student happened to look up and the vent grates were bent slightly open and she could see a red dot flashing. After the school resource officer got up there and got the camcorder down they had to inform all the girls on camera that they had been recorded during a private moment. Ever since that day I cannot go in a bathroom stall with a vent directly above the toilet. 😢 The kid was caught, and it was talked about for the rest of the year.

This is disgusting. Sadly where I live there's a small "family" owned Italian restaurant whose owner installed cameras in the women's bathroom that were not only for employees, but general public as well. He was arrested months ago and is still sitting in jail awaiting trial.
Here in the UK, our local leisure centre was rebuilt. And the pool changing rooms were now all 'mixed' - no longer separate male and female changing rooms. It is meant to be so parents (of the opposite sex to their children), can easily help their kids get dressed.
Sure, there are cubicles. But the rest (of the huge 'changing village') is open plan, e.g. the walk from the showers; the mirrors and hairdryers, the lockers, etc. Predictably, there have been problems.
All cubicles have a gap under the door, so staff can easily hose them all down. And on at least 2 occasions, guys have been caught putting cameras under cubicle doors. One victim was a 15-year-old girl. It's also just really uncomfortable.
I hate walking from the showers in a towel, to the lockers, in front of men I don't know. I'm sure most of them are decent enough (and some of them are uncomfortable, too). But there will always be a few who aren't.
For example, I've had one guy seeming to follow me (in a towel) to the lockers, and just stare. I don't know why they couldn't just create 3 changing rooms - male, female, and mixed. Then the parents could still take their kids into the mixed room, when necessary.
And the rest of us could use separate male or female rooms, if we want. Even the roof above the cubicles, would be so easy to hide a camera in (especially if there was a pervert staff member). It's full of pipes and other machinery. It would be very easy to disguise a camera.

Hell no. U have to pay the bondsman before he even thinks of getting you out. I got arrested in my 20s and had to pay 50 of 500. Until he was handed the money I wasn't going anywhere. And they said he paid 100000. Didn't mention a bondsman. How the hell does this dipshit working at a hotel for 15 an hour have 100grand!?!?!
