- Upon arrival to Bluefields, an indigenous reservation in the Bocas del Toro archipelago, we are greeted by a mass of friendly neighbors. After receiving guest after guest, we get a little flustered and exhausted from the constant attention. My Filipino friend told me by western standards, most people are very poor. But his family and friends are happier than typical Americans, and that they have lots of free time, plenty of food, and plenty of family. Your best episode yet!

This is very true. When I studied psychology at university, I remembered seeing something that showed the table of general happiness (by country) tends to decline with the upward trend of average income. Or something like that. America is pretty low on the happiness list, if I remember correctly. Which seems like it should be the opposite, land of plenty and all.
Totally agree. Some people have a lot material stuff but are so unhappy.

@@caribbeanbound8357 interestingly, you also explain here why areas have high crime. Note: wealthy places usually have low crime. Poverty stricken places with no wealth also rarely have high crime. But look at the favellas for instance- when a poor person can see a rich neighbor..... Well, it's not good for anyone.
To me, this is evidence that humanity is a failed expirement. Ready for the next version, hopefully they won't be so petty and quick to violence.

This has to be one of the most enjoyable episodes to date. You guys bring out the side of humanity that no other sailing channel can. I guess it due to the genuine good nature of you both. This actually made me ask myself "how much is enough ?" You both have a special way to look introspectively at things and let your true inner feelings known. That's a type of vulnerability that most people today just don't have. Please stay safe and don't forget you two have more than most of us have in terms of quality of life.
So cool being in a different culture and just realizing how simple life can be when you don't have high expectations.

Hands down my favorite episode guys. And you have me contemplating that question a lot "How much is enough?" Im disabled on a limited income at the moment and planning on some big life changes......I want to live mobile in a truck camper for a year or more. And I guess just grappling how to make it all happen with my physical limitations and financially. Ill be selling my house and beyond fortunate to have the equity I have built into it so from that standpoint its an affordable/obtainable adventure. But enough with my story haha. Not only for the scenery, the water, and the marinelife in the underwater video but also about this cute kid, David and his family. This is why I like this channel so much, the wisdom behind the travel and adventure is an important message. Some people won't understand or relate, but for everyone who does that's a big step closer to finding peace and real value in life. You have to contemplate what you really need and want out of life, stop listening to what you are 'expected' to be, what you are conditioned to 'want', and stop judging your self worth by how much 'stuff' you can accumulate. You'll find the MOST valuable things in life are experiences and relationships, if you work hard and with a little luck you'll have great experiences with the people you develop the best relationships with.
He just took you into his life.. sweet soul. And an honest negotiator too 😊

What more can I say? You guys aren't afraid to step outside your comfort zones. Your genuine sensitivity to others shines through. Tourism doesn't have to be a one-way transaction, fat cats tossing scraps to the poor then racing back to safe luxury. We saw a beautiful exchange, and you each came away with riches. Yes...and I think he needed money to get food for his family....he did so many things to see if he could bring money to help.....but sometimes people pass these opportunities by and the difficulties in gathering life's necessity still remains....hopefully someday someone will help

There’s something magical when you step into the shoes (or boots) of human simple survival with nature. Brings a new appreciation to all we already have and a reality to thinking we need more.
