- After spending two months off grid, we’re finally ready to dig back into projects, do our laundry, take hot showers, and re-assimilate back into civilization. We head back to Bocas Marina where we have a big shipment of gear and materials waiting for us and a daunting DIY outboard engine issue to tackle!
Atticus is a 30 foot Allied Seawind Ketch built by Thomas Gillmer in 1963. We bought Atticus for $5000 and have been slowly improving her and living aboard full time for the last 6 years. More information here: www.projectatticus.com/ourstory or watch from the beginning here: bit.ly/30PlSW2

Desiree is a one in a million gift. One of those kind of people who consistently makes things happen. Nice outboard repair analysis and very informative vid. .Did not realize that hitting a rock could break gear teeth like that..
I can't stop the tears of happiness. Thank you.
I love that you were able to repurpose some of your old gear to others in need😊❤️⛵️
Wow...new kit for Atticus. That IS exciting...nothing like a refresh/upgrade to put new life into the old girl. Can't wait to see the projects completed. Such a great couple...such a great channel 😀
I can’t stop watching season 4 over and over again every night when I’m trying to relax for bed!
I just want to thank you guys for this channel it's helped my wife get a little bit more motivated with our dreams of retiring on a sailboat and we leave Wednesday from al to head to Virginia to take possession of our new 34 ft Pearson
Congratulations on upgrading Atticus with all the new gear once again. I look forward to seeing the rest of your videos with this new equipments
What is the saying.. One man's junk is another man's treasure. I love that you found a home for your other stuff instead of just throwing it away.
You two buds are so enjoyable to watch!! Thanks for sharing your story.
You two are my favorite sailing couple. Thank you!
Bud, mark that dinghy, they like to steal the new ones. Nice to see you guys enjoying life.
I am so impressed you both could stay off grid for 2 whole months in that boat!
I love your videos. I look forward to every Thursday morning for a new Video. Be safe. Well wishes from Eugene, Or USA.
All I have to say COOL!! One of our best
Desiree and Jordan, just got Amazon notice, You are very welcome and so glad you finally received. Enjoy, be happy, be well!
thank you Joe!!!
I have followed yu'all for a long time, I really just love your whole awesomeness.
Nice sail. God Bless yu'all. When I am not a 52 year old music student, I will g I be you as much money as I can. Pray I get some hit records I produce.
Can’t stop watching this video I’ve watched it like 5 times today it’s soooo good!!!
Heck yeah. Good job on all the gear. Still counting down till your first day on the Pacific! Cant wait!
Brought out the drama for lil shit. What a day picking up some goodies for Atticus. I hope you get the outboard all repaired good. Thanks for the show, you all really keep it interesting.
I loved Captain Ron it was so funny! I had never seen it and then my neighborhood did a movie night with our boating community in our community
You 2 are the Spirit missing now days. So gracious and kind. helping one another. No words. Just thank you for what yall do.
Thank you guys. As always you are a breathe of fresh air for us. These ate such difficult days for us up here everyone seems to hate everyone. Me being a cop makes it tougher. Thanks for the escape for a bit. Love you guys. Stay safe. This episode was like Christmas.
Nice to see some good things happen to you guys. Enjoy the new toys!
Congratulations on the new dingy and accessories for Attica
Hey buds were so glad for you getting that dinghy... And how Jordan just jumps into all that engineer work... Great job 👍.. can't wait to see what you have next time...
I think using a song whose lyrics consist of "bum, bum ba da bum" during a scene where you're both bending over to the camera and walking bum first towards it is quite clever indeed. Even if accidental.
Love how you donated your old fridge/freezer one to another sailboat rather than scrap it. Seeing the elation on their faces at the thought of cold beers made me smile. Shows how even a simple luxury can go a long way. You are good people.
# 10:44 was funny....Jordan always exactly and accurately finds reason behind if any malfunctions in atticus .....just perfect boat doctor.. 😀😀
I always love your videos lots of fun. Also at times educational. Much respect. Many blessings to you.⛵
Yo that’s so smart stuffing the pillows!! I’ve never thought of that
I agree... my pillow will be stuffed now!
I agree, that's next level pack ratting.
Peter K yes she has great ideas and works smart and efficient. I stuff stuff in a pillow case too.
Its so great to be able to tune into your videos for a little look outside of my daily lockdown routine, thank you both for the effort you put in.
Definitely the most info packed episode.
Can't wait to see that furler in action!!!
It would be really cool to see you work this into a million dollar catamaran like a different channel got, I root for that happening.
great music in this one! Farewell Lil'Shit, may your post-flush adventures be as fun as they have been with Atticus!
Loved all the inserted film puns...this one made me laugh ...good job!
"...confident for no good reason..." My new mantra! Thanks guys for another great vlog. 🍻
You guys are so nice good people .. your a lucky man . And she is a lucky woman .. i hope the best for your lives ... and the most amazing future 😍
First i started to get a knot in my throat when she got sad then lmaol love the channel.
Nice to see all the new gear. Have fun sleuthing around!
Thanks, will do!
Man you guys aren’t playing around! Some real improvements on the horizon! Happy for you both!
Great video. Thanks. I really enjoy how you take us through the process of living life on a boat. Enjoy the details! Take care and stay safe. GOD bless you both 🙏
NIce incoming packages !! You spent some dollars !! Happy for you guys and the upgrades and how they will help you guys out !!! Good "sloothing" on the outboard.
We wish we were sloths like you 😜 Just finishing up our full enclosure for our 26' Tanzer and then off-grid for 3 weeks. No overnighting in marinas due to c-19 restrictions. Shucks! Thanks for sharing! Lots of inspiration from you guys!
Jordan definitely has the handyman gene. Some do, some don't. With his ability to figure things out and fix them, he has it!
Is it Christmas? It feels like it for you!
Thanks for almost 20 minutes of pure escapism!
Holy freaking Christmas for you guys....awsome!!
Very nice video. You guys are doing. Thanks for letting me watch your journey. Best of luck.
Woo Hoo... boat project time! Glad the sails made it to you safely. Stay safe and healthy down there!
thank you!!! we can't wait to get them up!!
Wonderful upgrades were very much needed. $$$$$.$$!
I could watch you guys all day❤️
Love you vids makes me look forward to Thursday keep up the good work 👍
You just brought tears to my eyes the way yu'all helped up and coming Cruisers.
I will soon have music of all genres I am producing to help you with awesome music
Me encanta ver como les encanta nuestro pais. Dios Los bendiga y sigan su travesia con bien. Familia Amores desde Atlanta, Georgia.
Looking forward to seeing those new sails in use!
We always carry two dinghy outboards (the back up motor is a 3.5 hp) and it saved us when our 9.8 primary outboard hit a rock on our last cruise. I took the lower unit apart when we got back (I really had no idea what went on in there until then!) and I feel for you on that job! (Our shaft was just slightly bent) Your videos are simply amazing, content and production wise. Really enjoying them!
Cool packaging👍 You could resell that culvert pipe locally and make some cash back
The refrigerator top....diy.....just as you opened the new box......lol..
Sweet
LOL "What's a sleuth? - YOUR'E a sleuth... " lol this was a funny episode guys!! =0) big smiles.
I was a marine diesel mechanic (Retired now). Replace all damaged gears. Order new seals. There is no AAA at sea. Good luck.
No propellor 'shear' pin fitted? (also retired marine engineer with outboard experience)
@@retardtiger Yeah when he said he was expecting broken teeth I wondered the same thing. I absolutely agree with Kevin that you replace all damaged gears. the idea of putting a brand new gear up against the torn up one with partially broken teeth makes my heart hurt. I'm actually surprised he did that given how careful he usually is with maintenance and repair.
Cheers to you both! I’m looking forward to a tropical getaway, you’re making it easier to pick a place! Safe travels 🤘🏼!! Ken from So. Cal.
Super edit job! Great story telling. Love you guys!
Nice job on the editing on this episode! I enjoyed it! Also, nice job inspecting the lower unit. Keep on keepin on buds!!!
Sleuth and Sloth. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed.
Love watching yall live life off the grid. Take a look at upgrading your solar panels to ones called 'COOL PV'..... they produce electric power and hot water for showers / dish washing .
Replace all the gears and any “o” rings. Great video. Good luck!!
Hi guys, big hi from India. Started watching ur channel couple of weeks back and now watching S3E17. Incredible story and u guys r living the life lot of us dream of... Give a shout when the corona devil is out of our way and u guys r in Indian ocean. Awesome going guys and due respect to all the hardships u guys went through to make this happen. Inspiring is the word for ur story. Love from India again..
Another great job guys, keep on being amazing x
Talk about Christmas in July !! wow what a haul of new items, the refrigerator for those cold brews ... and food items LOL, sails & hardware and the dingy ...... you guys did well. I hope the outboard gets cranking soon. Always enjoy your adventure you guys are the greatest !
You are marvelous as always!
Noooo,,,, it's over already,,,,I was just loving this episode and all the upgrades and bang ,,,,, we'll see you next thursday,,,,,😵
Lots of cool projects coming up - and good to see you guys get some feet on the ground time - also I love that you help out the next generation of boaters by letting them have the stuff you are replacing - that is awesome community committment!
So inspirational. Thank you.
Yay new stuff! This new rib inflatable is a much better match for your chosen powerplant. I think you are going to like it a lot. As to the motor, a fresh lower end is your friend. Too many unknown unknowns with a high speed grounding and grenade frag rolling around in there for a while.
Awesome new fun toys to play with. Hoping your outboard repair goes well.
Great episode! The tribute to Lil' Shit had me cracking up! Glad to see y'all are making upgrades and look to be doing well. Cheers for a great start to this Thursday!
I currently work on the warranty side of the marine world. Gear failure, r&r all bearings & gears, new seal kit. flush & clean the inside of the housing before re-assembly, & changed the water pump while you are in there.
I have a Highfield 290 (classic). It's a great little tender! It's super dry and sturdy for it's size. You'll love it! :-)
I would go ahead and replace the other gears that are damaged. Better safe than sorry.
I agree its best to match up the new gears to new gears.
That's the only way I would feel comfortable. All new
Replace them both, keep the mostly undamaged one as a backup.
yes replace all the bad or slightly damaged one Will take out the new one over time
Depending on cost, I'd pick up another pinion gear as well to keep as a spare. It seems to be the weak link in the chain.
Super mates, yr videos are always great to watch, the more i watch yr videos n other cruisers, it seems you could never be board on a boat always something to mend,.. cheers, all the best
Congrats on L.S. II. Always worth spending a time with you guys. The pillow with storage is an awesome find. Now...that poor gear getting it's teeth knocked out....sigh. S__t just happens sometimes. I can depend on you two taking in stride and working toward a solution. I watch a few sailing channels but gotta admit....you two scouts always seem prepared....keep sane and safe and see you next time.
Thanks so much!
You guys NEVER let me down. I’m always at peace when watching 😌 I love the improvements that you both are making.. it’s amazing to see how far you guys have came. -Love from Florida ❤️🌴🌊
proud of you guys
"Yeah, I'm over it. This thing is pretty awesome." love it!!!
Thanks, a really good episode. Step by step dismantle would be good, which will happen as you get more confident. Well done
Love the storage pillows, great idea!
Damn, the way buddy holds that knife. Watch your back buddy. Cool idea with the pillow by the way.
😂
At least your lower unit is small and light weight. I just finished tearing down the lower of my 150hp and even though I didn't lose any toes, I was worried the entire time that it was going to slip off of the sawhorses it was resting on and the skeg was going to turn my feet into flippers! haha You guys ROCK every video you put out. Thanks!!!
Go ahead and change out the impeller and water pump housing while you have the lower unit off. Outboards are fairly easy to work on compared to the inboards due to the fact that you have so much access without overhangs to hit your head on. Great job guys keep it up.
You guys are the best!....That's all I have to say.
Greetings from Beautiful Roatan,Honduras.😊
I think I'm just about as excited as your are for that new furler; although it was fun watching you wrestle that genoa. You two are great keep living life to the fullest.
Great episode. Always fun to get new gear!
me siento feliz por ustedes son personas muy concientes, sigan adelante!!!!
Thank You my favorite sailing couple. So glad to see your upgrades. One of the things that drew me to your channel is that you are not millionaires and are doing this on a basic shoestring budget. Our mutual Key West connection also..lol So anything you are able to procure is deserved and totally worked for.. I enjoy my Thursday mornings because of both of you. Smooth sailing and much love from fresh water Conch in the Smokies...
"I am over it" best comment in a long time!
Hi Guys, you keep popping out great videos! I watched this episode from the 'belly' of my yacht, in 1 deg C temperature with a million stars in the night sky! But at least it will be beautiful and sunny tomorrow, great for charging batteries. Poor Lil shit, but fantastic memories and great work fixing the outboard. Can't wait till you guys come to 'the land of Oz'. We will greet you with loving arms outstretched! Happy sailing, and may your mast always point skyward! Daz :-)
can I attach photos to public comments?
I was so glad to see that this channel is actually about sailing as a couple and the adventures you have together. If you ever find yourself in the PNW and feel like freezing your butts off in the Puget Sound you have a friend. 👍
I'm with all the comments suggesting replacing all the gears and seals, it just makes good sense.
I barely saw captions of relationship issues. Please resolve whatever issues there are and enjoy your lives. You're both beautiful people and finding that perfect mate for you is getting so much harder. Mad Respect for you two! From Redondo Beach California, we pray for you guys!
You guys are so awesome!! Love your videos!
So psyched for you guys to get that new gear! Much deserved!
Birthday presents in July. That's quite a haul. Ought to make your lives a lot easier and safer. And glad there are others who are happy with your castoffs.
So, how many hot showers a day are you enjoying while in the civilized world?
I like the way you two ignore convention and find your own solutions to problems, like the pillow storage unit. Great idea.
The Buds are back, always a good Thursday nite here in the Philippines when I get my Atticus fix..
You are living in paradise
