Why the Garage 56 NASCAR WON’T Race at Le Mans in 2024

- When NASCAR made the attempt to take a NASCAR race car back to Le Mans in 2023, it was quite the unexpected announcement, but thankfully the projected worked out! and the #24 Garage 56 Nascar finshied the 24 hours of Le Mans. However, the popular entry will not return for the upcoming 2024 race and in this video I will explain why!

This entry in last year race was an absolute hit! I watched the race on TV and you could tell when this awesome car was coming! Love it!...
I also cant wait to watch 2024 24hrs of LeMans as well despite there are only 2 classes. LMH and LMGT3.
I loved the night time coverage when you had no idea who was who. The only car you could recognise in the darkness was this absolute beast purely on the sound of its engine. I was lucky enough to see the car close up at speedfest at Brands Hatch last year and it looked absolutely stunning.
@@purwantiallan5089 there is lmp2 too, only for le mans
@@purwantiallan5089 There was still LMP2 its now just the smallest class at 16 cars.
I'm glad it's a one off because then the novelty won't ware off. Jenson Button fans won't be (too?) disappointed because he's back competing for the overall win with Hertz Team Jota. I like the idea of interesting concepts being allowed one-off entries in the great race. I think if NASCAR was to come back to le Mans, it'd have to be in its own category with 5 to 8 grid slots because going around every year with essentially reliability as its only competition would be pointless when the novelty wares off.
Well the issue of that is Le Mans is stacked as it is. Many Hypercar teams / loyal GT teams can't race, not sure how easy it would be to fit another 8 Stock Cars in there.
Testing concepts and reliability of the concepts is the entire point of garage 56 lmao
@@Maenfywell Stock cars could easily fit 7 cars for 24hrs of LeMans field.
@@purwantiallan5089 I never doubted that, Le Mans only has space for 62 cars though. The last few years we always hit that number + about 10 cars on a reserve list + plenty of others who didn't even get on the reserve list. Adding another 8 cars that aren't part of any championship and don't really have much to do with Endurance racing doesn't seem logical to me.
The NASCAR entries would need upgrading to brakes. Lose a to. Of weight. Upgraded transmission and therefore would no longer meet NASCAR specifications. So just build a GT3
Maybe a video on the history of Garage 56 is in order.
yes, it's ALWAYS been different year to year, so the question is not why no NASCAR, but why no Garage 56 this year?
@@GamezGuru1 Because there isn't one most years
@@the_ultra_robot6884 true.
@@the_ultra_robot6884 There should be though. They can chuck one random car out there without issue. I dont care if it's some old local farmer in a 2CV. I'm sure they can come up with a cool one off every year.
@@mcgoo721if you want that then watch the nurb 24
Hendrick spent 3 million on the Larson Indy 500/Coke 600 double this year so there’s that much less money in the budget for stuff like this. Plus Jimmie Johnson is now with Toyota, Jenson Button is with Porsche Jota, and Mike Rockenfeller is with Ford in IMSA. After the waiver issues for Larson recently it would be impossible to pull out Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson to do this race
I need to go back and visit him again
More random Garage 56 le mans entries would be cool, it would be nice to see exoeriments with types of fuel like evs and hydrogen
Toyota has got a whole hydrogen hypercar
Technically, the car broke down a few hours before the end of the race and they could only fix it by replacing a part that couldn't have been replaced if the car would have actually competed. So technically teh car did not finish the race, it wiuld have been retired or disqualified, if it wouldn't have been the Garage 56 entry for the event.
That being said, it was awesome to see this car and while I knew it wouldn't return to Le Mans, I can't stop hoping that we'll still see it compete it in some capacity.
Stop that lieing
I'm terribly disappointed that there isn't a garage 56 car this year. These experimental cars should become constant. different cars each year, but always there.
And what makes it worse is they have the mission h24 car at the event Why can't it race?
Garage 56 is actually more of a novelty than a regular entry in Le Mans. There were only 5 or 6 of such entries during the history of the race.
@KMerse1 that's my point. It should become a regular yearly entry.
Different cars each year, obviously
We were going to get the GreenGT H2 prototype, but they backed out at the last minute.
GreenGT H2 Prototype LMh?
@@purwantiallan5089 not quite, there was an open top prototype that was going to be the Garage 56 entry back in 2013.
They’ve been trying to get these stupid gimmicks at LM for a decade now, but it’s always been vaporware.
That garage 56 NASCAR is still the best entry ever what made me surprised that it made the entire 24 hours with no issues and I like how the design changed how it looks on NASCAR tracks. More aggressive aerodynamics and made the NASCAR Chevy Camaro drive like no other
It did have an issue. The transmission failed and had to be replaced. This was an exception given to the team because transmission replacing is not allowed per the rules. They were down for an hour and a half replacing it.
It had a 2 hour gearbox replacement, so not exactly "no issues" but I still agree.
Definitely had issues
Next year we want two Camrys and two Mustangs along with the Chevys!!
3:17 3:36Ah yes, the Gran Turismo 6 iconic experimental Le Mans race car.
Such a shame that Garage 56 won't compete in 2024 24hrs of Lemans following a very successful 2023 debut.
Garage 56 is not the nascar. Its one of the projects in garage 56.
Their gearbox broke down during race. According to rules, gearbox can't be changed. They were allowed to change it by stewards as this was out of rules entry anyway. Yes, they technically finished, but I would not call that car to survive the race.
Yea, the gearbox broke coming out of Indianapolis, with Jensen driving if I remember correctly.
I say it was a DNF as it’s transmission failed. I find it annoying that people were saying it beat the gte cars. An unrestricted car v restricted car. Bring a gt3 spec camaro and have an even competition
It was a one off that was never designed to be a continuous entry
Why it was just a One-Off entry btw?
@@purwantiallan5089 to celebrate NASCARs 75th anniversary
@@patrickracer43it was also the 50th since they went the first time wasn't it
@@the_ultra_robot6884 yes, 100th anniversary of Le Mans, 75th anniversary of NASCAR as an organization and 50th anniversary of the last time NASCAR Cup Series stock cars went to the French countryside
Thank God.
I was kinda aware this was a one off project, but it was great while it lasted. I think it’s interesting to see cars from different forms of motorsport taking part at Le Mans. Personally I’d love to see a Japanese Super GT car race at Le Mans as a garage 56 entry. I got the idea from an article regarding the similarities in performance between a Hypercar and a Super GT car on Autosport. Although a Super GT car looks very different to a Hypercar and probably more draggy down the straights, they both sound quite similar in terms of performance. The JGTC as it was known back in the 90s, did feature some of their cars at Le Mans back in ’95 and ’96. It would be great to see a modern day Super GT machine race at Le Mans alongside the Hypercars, that would be super cool!
Ohhh imagine the Castrol Toyota Supra Super GT or R34 Nismo Super GT damnnn!! That’d be insane!
agree, a super gt that analogues with gt3 charged into the hypercar field, that would be fun, anyway GM is racing in le mans with multiple cars, with the cadillac hypercar finishing podium last year
Wait. Did people not know that Garage 56 was a one off type deal?
Garage 56 was always for experimental entries before the grid expanded beyond 55 cars, thus the Garage 56 name. Cars in the G56 position include the Deltawing and Nissan Zeod RC, and a Morgan LMP2 that was converted to hand controls.
It waa fun last year. Hopefully, the near future has something like this back.
Chevy Camaro Garage 56 car had no issues? Transmission failure not an issue? It took over an hour to replace it.
I'm disappointed it won't be racing. However thanks for the information I will subscribe!
Yeah I am sad that it is not coming back it was so cool seeing it there.
Don't worry mustang is there
This car was based on a NASCAR only. The driveline was far from that spec.
I thought that as well. Looking at the pictures of that thing there were so many aerodynamic bits and pieces on it, along with many other changes, it couldn’t be considered entirely representative of what one would historically think of as a NASCAR “stock car. “
if there is one thing i will remember about lemans 2023, it is without doubt going to be the ROAR of this car comming down the track.
holy moly, do i love that sound!!!
Id like to see nascar make their own class of cars for 24h races, or make a special team that runs the 3 main cars of each brand in nascar, so you’d have the Camry, Camaro Zl1, and the Mustang Dark Horse, all racing for a one special team, and maybe be involved with the GT cars or smth. That would be interesting.
0:55 technically correct, but The car's transmission failed before the end. I've heard endurance race rules don't allow you to change transmissions, but since this was an experimental car, they gave it a pass
So they still finished is what you're staying
@@nathanbroude8695 with an exemption that no other car on the grid was allowed to have, yes
It's still a cool showing for American motorsport
They should put an f1 or an indy car in the future maybe even a v8 supercar from Australia. Designers/manufacturers could learn alot from stressing the cars for long period of time.
I was there in person. This was the best sounding car by miles!
Chevy Corvettes had the same transmission problems three years in IMSA.
The same???
I still would love to have this spec car racing around America and Europe. Nascar endurance series? Please?
Is anyone doing a G56 entry this year?
Main reason I’m so sad too se the car go is there wasn’t much footage of the car going around the track and dominating
Which Cars has good Longruns in the Le Mans Test Days?
So far it’s BMW, Porsche and Toyota that did the most laps in Hypercar. But everyone was doing a lot of laps during testing which is a good sign for the top category!
From what I’ve been reading the rough order so far is:
1. Porsche
2. Toyota
3. Ferrari
4. Cadillac
5. BMW
6. Peugeot
7. Lamborghini
8. Isotta
@@FormulaJonah Looks Ferrari also strong?
A one off and they made good on it. I'm disappointed like alot of race fans that they aren't there.
been watching Leman's 2024 and the nascar chevy is sorely missed. first of all its was fast AF beautifull and sounded awesome. so that it aint particapating is a big shame
0:14 not really. Its gearbox broke and the rules for the race don’t allow cars to fix gearbox’s normally, but since it was a test car they were allowed to fix it.
Are BoP Changes Possible after the Test Days?
I could be wrong, but I don’t think it’s possible to have the BoP changed.
@FormulaJonah I have not watched in a while. But from what I recall in the 2010s. It is common for cars to have some minor BoP changes after practice.
Whats the G56 entry for this year?
I looked it up. No entries this year. In the past we had entries in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2021, and 2023.
There won’t be any Garage 56 entry this year I’m afraid.
@@FormulaJonah I think it would be cool to have a fully electric car in G56.
@@ryanb9749 That would be interesting. Testing a fully electric endurance car. I know there is a plan for that in the future. I am not sure when it will happen. I would wonder about battery longevity and obviously, there would be a built-in system for battery changes during the race if they were necessary. A fully electric GT or prototype could be possible but I am not sure how possible in the current era of both LMH/LMDh and GT3.
@cliffordbruber2791 Garage 56 doesn't have regulations so Dark Helmet could enter, it would be cool to see a Tesla GT3 spec car competiting door to door with other GT3 cars, but obviously it would be many many laps down for charging.
My Tesla has 155k miles on it and I drive it like a racecar. The only issue that I have is that one of my dampers is making weird noises and the upper control arms need to be regressed.
This ain't no 10 minute race though. I wonder what 24 hours would do to it.
So what car will enter in the garage 56 entry this year? none?
Correct
I wanna see the new F1 car race in garage 56. It's set up for Lemans in its specs
I don't think it's outside the imagination that we will have another NASCAR compete at LeMans for another huge milestone anniversary event. Although that won't be for another 25 years lol
Garage 56 should come back with a twin turbo 4 rotor.
what happened to the rumours of the bolide and amr pro
AMR Pro are coming next year. Bolide will prolly never as its way too much for the regulations, and it wouldn't be competitive if it followed regs
Where can I watch the race ? On a site I don't have to pay for 👀
Past year 2023 there was a full live race on UA-cam
The Lord Latifi provides
Bummed, but it made history.
super gt gt500 should do the next entry would keep up with hypercars
Finally 😏
Good, now they can give that slot to a car that's actually competing.
hopeful it might make areturn
Where is the special video of the Camaro promised?
I don’t quite follow yet. Which video was that?
I don't watch NASCAR anymore - but I did LIKE that car!
What about the cool Russian guys from Garage 54?
If a NASCAR driver drove in the 24 hours of LeMans,, the way he drives in a NASCAR race,, he would most likely be kicked out for door slamming everybody...
he'd probably crash out before anyone has a chance to kick him out to begin with
A nascar driver did lmao
wanna c an open wheel whip🏎️ in le mans
Dang this could have been a short.
Garage 56 f1 car is possible?
Legaly, i suppose, realisticaly NO.
F1 cars are mean for "sprint" races, and wouldn't last for 24H. 2/3 engine replacements would be needed, even with a de-tuned F1
No more free bird memes
We didn't get it neither in Nascar... nor Le Man or anywhere else...
Because it for commemorationg 75th anniversary of NASCAR, & its also coincindence with 100th anniversary of Le Mans.
Even though its one off, I prefer it's an one off.
If come back, don't race it. Make it just an exhibition, or as a pace car only.
I'm angry that there's no Garage 56 this year. It seems that would be the H24 hydrogen car.
I love it race against gt7
That’s a shame. I loved the sound. But I thought it someone was making a couple of Mustangs using the same rules? I guess not.
There are Mustangs in the LMGT3 class if that's what you mean.
@@Maenfy
Yes, I know about those in that class. This was a NASCAR Ford team that was considering building a car or two but staying within the NASCAR rules. This talk was months before the 2023 LeMans. I can’t find anything about that now.
Why not let an old champion be Garage 56?
They should let download that car in nascar heat
The truth is , 2nd last and approximately 800 klm behind the winner.
Por eso nascar abandono la carrera de las 24 de lemans en 2023 entonces llego el Ford mustang GT3 LM en el 2024.
It should be run in the 24 Hours of Daytona.
I think it also a sendoff for Camaro as Chevy will end the production of its current model
I love my ZL1
I was at Le Man and the crowd loved it, I couldn’t get enough of the sound track. Its a risky race and to finish was top drawer👍
that car was sold to some guy
The Nascar Chevy wasn't really a Nascar Car. It had no BOP and I for one am glad it's gone. Won't be missed.
The Hendricks Camaro was a special car at the 2023 Le Mans. But fortunately, the field is so exciting and competitive this year, that we will barely miss it. I was looking forward to see it again.
Hi
At least now, the French can sleep thru the race without being WOKE UP BY A CAMARO . . . Cadillac's are JUST AS LOUD . . .
Because Europeans were mad that the glorious V8 monster was more popular than their stupid electric Rube Goldberg machines.
Take the NASCAR back with Kyle Larson, Shane Van Gisbergen, Truex and Hamlin driving..... And make a Net Flix Doco...... Total winner
They won’t be back because they were too fast….
Too fast? The NASCAR Garage 56 Camaro finished 39th overall and 10th in the GTE class. Quite a good result considering the transmission failure, but it is also worth noting that the Camaro far exceeded the GTE class restrictions.
No regulations, thats why it was fast, but only on Hunaudières
It was awesome, to watch my favorite racing series compete in Lemans and dominate the GTE field
It didn't, it finished second to last from all the finishers.
@@juaneer crazy copium

Thank god it’s not entering, it was embarrassing to see such old crap technology in such a higher world race.
There should be a Garage 56 entry every year. Test electric cars, hydrogen cars, or whatever. Just put one every year. Formula 1 car maybe!
Well that's the idea to have a Garage 56 car every year, but it's not that simple.
Nobody knows how to prepare an electric car for 24 hours of racing yet. It would have to stop quite often to be recharged and that would take quite a while so there is no real purpose in doing that.
Hydrogen kind of the same, how would they refuel the car?
F1 cars would need tons of modifications to race, they would be way too fast and it would cost way too much.
@@Maenfyyou can refuel from liquid hydrogen storage. Just need the logistics to be arranged
Only issue is that to have a garage 56 car every year, you have to have enough projects going on that could be done as garage 56. And even then, these are experimental, so if there are any development delays it can't happen either, that has already happened to several garage 56 entries in the past
Boooooooooo booooooo
It was a one off, more like a rolling joke.
Just give it 5 years when NASCAR celebrates its 80th anniversary and we’ll back…(we won’t but let me dream🥲)
Who ever even wonders why are clueless to start
I wish people would stop calling it a NASCAR😐
