  • hello friends~
it feels like it's been forever since i last uploaded a video. to be honest, i've been spending most of my time crocheting (hehe), but i also don't know what kind of videos i want to make anymore. but i'm sure i'll get out of this whirlpool and come back refreshed and energised. i hope you are well and that this little video was if not fun, a bit educational.
    sending love,
    M.

It's not sandhi, "mien" 面 means surface.

Thank you so much for making these videos! It’s my husbands first language and his parents don’t speak English. So I love watching these and learning from my husband because I’ve never REALLY talked to his parents before. Especially with them living all the way in Indonesia.

According to me 前边 is for something in front of you but no necessary facing you like the car in front of you , 前面 is for something facing you , or in front of your face . Slightly different but I'm not sure though.

My mother tongue..that would be English and Cantonese. Although I should know Hakka more as my dad is Hakka. Sadly I can't speak that well but understand more maybe coz of my cantonese. Thanks for your simple and helpful videos :)

It's interesting that in my Hakka variant, "front" is "mien chien" ( 面前 ), the word order is reversed from yours

Front is "men" instead of "ben" just like when we speak in mandarin, "men" is face, as in "mien tze", the direction we're facing... I think 😊

Your Hakka is exactly the same as the Hakka in most Malaysian’s states - except Sarawak’s Hakka which I come to learn is called ‘Hor Por Hak’

Hi Michelle, my parents are also Hakka ngin from Suriname. They spoke mostly English at home once they moved to Jamaica where I was born, but I learned snippets of Hakka and Dutch growing up. I would love for you to make a video with simple verbs and examples of how to use them. I love your videos. Thanks for making them! Also could you make a video with question words... where, why, how, when, who, what. Thanks

左邊zo ben 右邊iu ben are right, but 上面song men 下面ha men are men. Falling tone is men instead of ben.

Allow me to point out the difference in ben (Bien) in Meizhou Hakka and Mian (Face in English) those two words are not pronunciation deviation, they have different meanings. As you said Zoouben or yoouben (left or right), chianmian (front or front of the face) because mian means face in Hakka or in many Chinese dialects. I just want to say you are doing very well.
