  • Hi,
In this video, in the first part of the video I'll be going through the numbers zero to a million and in the second part I'll be sharing with you how the meaning changes of these words when pronounced with a different sound. I hope it was helpful and fun!
Let me know what you'd like to learn next!
    Sending my love,
    Michelle

Hey guys, I didn’t realize I made a mistake! One million is not 1 yit, but 100 maan. 1 yit is actually an even higher number, it’s 100 million. Sorry for the confusion! 😬

@Am La I think that would be 1000 maan, which is 'yit tsen maan' (一千万)

Omg, please please please keep posting these tutorials!! My dad is hakka but he never spoke hakka with me so I never got around even understanding it. It has been one my biggest dreams to learn hakka, so i can one day surprise my family at the dinner table. You have no idea how happy and hopeful stumbling upon your videos has made me! My grandma is also Surinam/Chinese, so this is literally perfect for me

This is what i learnt from my parents. Otherwise i enjoy very much your videos and the hakka you speak is very much like mine. My parents are from moiyen ( Meixian).

My girlfriends Hakka has very small differences!
This were the small differences she heard, for her the number would sound more like:
    6 - liok
    7 - chit
    10 - sop
    1000 - yit chien
Her family is also from Guangdong area but probably a different part.

My kinda Hakka... I think?!? Jamaican Hakka & Surnamese is the same?? When I was learning 1-10 I feel like maybe my Grandma might have told me a few numbers a slightly different pronunciation so that they more resemble English so that I would stick in my mind easier??🤣 Love your videos!!! Keep Hakka language alive!! #HakkaPride 🖤💚💛🥰😘

Hey just a quick but important note. Numbers from 100 onwards where there is a zero in the second digit should be declared or it could be misunderstood. For example :104 should be pronounced “yit bak LANG see”(one hundred zero four) and not “yit bak see”(which will be interpreted as 140 and not 104).

Ik help in de hakka-vereniging nu waar ik woon. Wij hebben een oud huis dat meer dan 200 jaar oud is. Begin maart van dit jaar vierden we het 200-jarig bestaan van de vereniging. Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese borrowed
      Chinese words before 1500s, when N +
S Chinese all had similar sounds, similar
to current SE and Central E dialects pronunciation. Japanese often, for same
word, has 1 or more native pronunciations + 1 or more older Chinese pronunciations--- very complex.
      similar + Chinese loan words.)

Hakka + other Chinese dialects + sub dialects are sorely.lacking in teaching +
reference materials---- other videos, books, etc. At times, Mainland + Taiwan
    Province diakect linguists publish books
or articles on Hakka, but all are in Chinese, & are useful to.help learn, they
are not.meant for learning. Useful articles, like on Hakka tone changes, appear in Fangyan (Dialect) Magazine
    and Zhonggio Yuwen(Chinese Language)
both in Beijing + websites. Can people
arrange + Hakka dialect linguists to
    produce teaching materials?
UA-cam has Hakka modern songs, folk
songs, opera songs videos, but often
    without Chinese subtitles or English.
Hakka language teaching field nearly does not exist, execept the above teaching friendly articles + books, or
the odd reprint?, like a Hakka Index to
Herbert Giles s (Mandarin) Chinese Dictionary, for sale on line.
The books + articles above might be in some university or large city libraries.
Perhaps World Hakka Congress can help
to help publish materials by those linguists. WHC has website.
    Good luck!!!

    亿(yeet) is not a million!
    10.000 x 10.000 = 亿(yeet)
    1 亿 = 100.000.000
One million is 一百万 (hundred ten thousands)
