How to Find Your Windows 10 Product Key

- In today’s tutorial I’m going to show you how to find your Windows 10 product key using the command prompt application.
To get started:
1. Go to the Windows start bar, and type in “CMD”
2. Right click on the command prompt application, and click on the “Run as administrator” option.
3. Now that command prompt has opened, enter the following command “wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey”.
4. Your Windows 10 Product Key will now be displayed
What is a Product Key?
A product key, also known as a software key or license key, is a specific code that is used to activate and authenticate a software product. It serves as a form of copy protection and is designed to ensure that the software is used only by individuals or entities who have legally obtained the right to use it.

This will only work if your OS is activated. Ensure you're pasting in the exact command wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey
Mine is activated (recently had to reactivate it due to hardware upgrades but that didn't require the code, just ticked a box or something) but when I do this the only return I get is a repeat of "OA3xOriginalProductKey" under the command line.

Works like a charm! I typed in the whole command line and skipped a letter so I got an error message and I was like, let me try the regedit option which is not showing the key, I tried again in the cmd and there it is! Thanks a lot!

Nothing shows. Only shows OA3xOriginalProductKey and that's it. Doesn't show the product key with which I activated windows 10

What if the original OS was Windows Vista, but Windows 10 was installed later with separate activation key? How can u view the W10 key?

under the return command ending with 03xOriginalProductKey is blank. i go to winver and it says my OS is activated with a digital license which happens to be genuine since i purchased the damn thing 4 years back.
I got the productkey but when i copy and pasted it, it says "product key you entered didn't work" what may be the problem?

I never had a cd or a USB with the product key on it, when I first got Windows 10 it was downloaded for free straight to my laptop by clicking on the link that was provided by Microsoft so how to get a new product key?
I get my key with your way thanks. But i have a question. If I format my laptop with rufus. and reinstall windows11(same edition) can i use this key? I think I can because it's same laptop
The key will be stored in the bios, so you dont have to retype it
for some reason it only worked when i copied and pasted the command from the description it wasn't working when i typed it myself

it showed the key but it doesnt work on my other laptop
Did not work for me. My Windows 10 Pro edition shows as activated and has a digital license. When I type in the command it appears blank underneath. Any solvers?

I don't comment usually, but this works like amazingly fabuosly. I didn't even need to copy the code, windows got activated themself. Bloody microsoft said to purchase it again since it is out of warranty.

it says 'wmic' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Try again and make sure the spelling is exactly correct, and if that doesn’t work, I have another video on how to do this using the registry editor

Sorry, it did not work for me, when I hit enter, it just returned me to the command prompt!.
After entering cmd, there was only command prompt system available. I selected run as administrator, entered the command as given, and now???, I stand on top of a windswept hill with my ¨todger¨ in my hand!

@@laurence_tindall hello neither worked for me, here it doesnt show anything, and in the other it shows a vertification code that isnt the same as on my phyiscal installation package. i remember installing this myself, im curious as to why this isnt making any sense
yea not working anymore. w11 , under activation shows activated.. iim confused because im upgrading my entire computer and hope to not buy another license..... maybe it will force me to with secure boot and tpm nowadays idk. or maybe its tied to your microsoft acount hopefully.. note i do have enterprise version .. maybe this is due to thhe version. another note I came from w10 and one day just w11 was installed ... diidnt even ask for it.. super weird. i am enrolled in beta....

Sadly, I didnt see this before performing a full recovery on my old(5 years)laptop. The result gave me a beautiful clean system with windows 10 pro installed but not activated.
This method did return a code but trying to activate windows with it failed.
Not sure what to do now as trying to buy from m.s. want to charge £219 + for a code for something already paid for.
And no, I didn't get a code from the vendor, and yes, it was brand new from Currys in the UK.

It didn't work for me, the console doesn't return anything. Though my system is broken. The best I can estimate is that there is some problem with administrator validation. Anyways, you can find your product key in the registry and that's what worked for me.

Does not work. Only the first line 'OA3xOriginalProductKey' is returned. There is no key below it.

@@laurence_tindallyeah I can get my partial key using a different command my guess is how far corrupted my computer is only reason I was trying to get the product key was to try and assist me with my factory reset and reinstall I’ll just take the computer part. It should still be in there from build date
@@kingblane im probably going to have to do the same thing i can get the last 5 digits of mine except mine cant boot because my winsetup.dll file is corrupt but it allows me to get on command prompt but hopefully whoever my buddy bought mine off of because my buddy game me this one after he got a new one it was working untill my sister yanked the power cord from the wall and it corrupted the file but idk if that person who sold the pc to my buddy put the product key anywhere on it and my buddy cant remember who he bought it off of

Can I transfer my windows on another computer?
I took my key from laptop to a new pc, windows is still activated on both computers. it's not 100% legal to do that but still more legal than just cracking it.
edit: actualy if you have a microsoft account on your old PC and log in (with same account) on the new PC it should transfer win key automaticly

Why it is showing invalid query
You may have typed in something incorrectly. You can also find it by running the "run" application, and entering "regedit", and going to the following folder path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform.

NOT WORKING. FIRST I TYPED. NO RESULT. THEN I TRIED TO COPY AND PASTE. THE RESULT IS SAME. TODAY ONLY I ACTIVATED MY OS.
