    This plan worked very well for us in the cold weather of Ireland. Thank you very much!

      I'm in Ireland as well. Just wondering, is there much reduction of temperature in the warm room. Also, where did you get your kit?

    So are you saying definitely don’t do it over long-distance? I’ve got a strange house and it’s cold at one end and I can’t put a fire at the end. It has to be the other end of the house so probably needs to be about 20 m maybe longer

    Hello! I’m wondering what the brand name would be of the parts as I’m in Canada and would love to utilize the heat my gas fireplace uses to heat up the rest of the house.

    I did this and it is really nice to be able to transfer the heat, however, the wood fire does generate a fair amount of smoke and dust / soot which is normal for any wood fire. To try to counter this, I installed a 2mm carbon filter screen at the lounge inlet vent, so that it won't suck up the dust and soot and smoke. It worked great, BUT after doing that I noticed the system heat transfer is about 50% less effective. Basically, anything filtering the air reduces the heat transfer - so you have a choice to make, transfer everything including the soot, or transfer the cleaner air, but only half the heat... ;-( Overall, this system is not really ideal - but it is cheap. If you can afford it I would recommend a better way to go with clean heat pumps ducted. More expensive, but cleaner.

    Why don't we have anything like this in the UK ?? Makes total sense to re-distribute wood burner heat this way.

      Dont worry, NZ is behind in every other way when it comes to building standards and prices. Im sure we can manage to do a fan and a couple of hoses though.....

    Our home is monopitch and the lounge where wood burner is has no ceiling, earliest point i can mount intake is end of lopunge where bedrooms all have flat ceiling which is 8 metres from the flu. house is 4 years old, very warm, very well insulated and double glazed/ lounge gets very very hot but rooms not so much. will this still work being so far from the fireplace? again, it gets very very warm

    Whats the weather like in NZ. I'm in Denmark, and it's currently 2C outside. My fireplace is nice and toastie, but the air is cold by the time it gets into the bedrooms. The ducting is run similar to this video. In otherwords its outside the thermal envelope.

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  Рік тому

      We're currently heading into Summer, so we can expect the high temperatures to get around 25-30C and during our Winter months, in some places (especially the South Island) it can get as low as -6C or lower! ^Cam

    Where can I get one of those plasterboard cutters? Do you stock them? Can’t seem to find any info on them

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  3 роки тому

      Hiya sofarknlow! Our current option with that supplier appears to be out of stock but it's definitely worth checking at your local Mitre 10 to see if they can get one from the supplier, locally sourced alternate, or if they can source one from an alternate supplier. Your local Mitre 10 should also have some version of this tool but without the cup guard. May be a little messier but definitely cheaper 😄 ^Nathan

      They’re excellent. I’ve installed them countless times and never had a customer complain that they still have moisture or mould issues in their home. Way cheaper and more practical in winter than an HRV.

    • @drbass9677

    • @michaelbutler881
      @michaelbutler881 Рік тому

      Definitely works for air con systems. I’ve wired plenty of them in homes with both fires and air con. Just make sure to never buy any Weiss products. As a sparky who’s installed more types of home and commercial heating than I can count I can confidently say that Weiss is by far the worst manufacturer of this stuff. Anything by Manrose or SimX would be excellent.

    wheres the best place to install the controller unit?

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  3 роки тому

      Hi Simon. Always double check your units instructions. But as a general guide:
      1.5 metres above the floor on an inner wall near the heat source, and not in direct sunlight (it must be placed within the same room as the heat source).
      Make sure that the controller is in a position where it can easily detect changes in the room temperature from your heat source, e.g. 2-4 metres away from the heat source. Do not place the controller in the hallway or near the doorway, around a corner from the heat source, or far away (>6 metres) from the heat source in a large room.
      Cheers, ^Nathan.
