You haven't done your research on enneagram. 5s are more than just nerds,frank made this video to make people aware of the most obvious traits of each enneagram. He didn't even cover 2% of what a five actually is. This is just a starting point for people who don't know what enneagram is.

I'm an INTJ and a type five (both originally mistyped). I like how MBTI has more types and is more comprehensive, but I also like how the Enneagram doesn't include introversion and extraversion.
if you get to know enneagram deeper you'd be surprised how deep and personal they are
it does has a certain level including introversion and extroversion actually, as how e8 can only be Se base, and e5 can only be Ti base and Ni base.
type 5 is known to be the most introverted of all types. I'm an INTJ and 5w6

That was helpful. I took the test 3 times with 3 different results. The first was ridiculous, the second was 6w5 and the third was 9w1. From your description I am definitely a 6 which fits an INTP pretty good.

I feel ya. I’ve known about my typing for both systems for 11 years but still am learning new things about myself, or fall back into the people pleasing in order to keep things calm. But we gotta lean into that 3 energy, even though it is uncomfortable if we want to grow. Thankfully my brother-in-law is a type 3 so I consider myself very fortunate.

Thank you Frank. I enjoyed your videos so much. I am both a Myers Briggs and Enneagram coach but I find the Enneagram much more helpful. As a type 7 my therapy practice has changed because I now see how I got in my own way during sessions. I love the Enneagram and graduated from the Narrative Tradition almost 20 years ago. It's great seeing you carrying the information and teaching of the Enneagram onto the next generations.

And I felt very close to almost all of the numbers (with maybe 1-2.5 exceptions for 6,7,8. 100% 8 ismn’tme), but then he started talking about the nine...... and in the very beginning when he showed the picture, in which I never noticed before (maybe because I didn’t pay that close attention), but did notice now, I noticed that, Hmm, why 9 is on the top and not 1?, must mean something then. .. and yap.. it does.. but about not having own opinion and personality¿, eemm, I don’t think so :/

I’ve been told everyone has a little of each type, but the goal is to find the closest match. It might make sense to dig into a book with details. When I did, I read one number until it didn’t feel like me anymore. Then move on to the next type, until you find the closest to you. Also, we’re all basically one number, with a “leaning” to the numbers on each side. For example, I’m a 7, but have a leaning to 6, and sometimes an 8, depending on the situation. I hope this heals?

I'm a type 8. For the longest time, I used to argue with people about all the reasons why I wasn't a type 8 because I didn't like how bossy the personality type sounded, and I wanted to convince people I wasn't domineering... It took me far too long to realize the irony of my intentions.
PS. I personally prefer Enneagram to MBTI. I like how it mainly focuses on fear and desire, two of life's biggest motivators. I think it to be a better guide for life in this way. If you understand that which motivates you, you'll know how to rule your own life. (At least, that's my opinion on the matter.)

Started seriously learning the Enneagram since beginning of the pandemic and geez, it is by far the most helpful personality system for me. It goes deeper than Myers Briggs (which seems to only deal with the brain center which is 1/3 of the Enneagram) and more gestalt and wholistic a system (while Myers Briggs can feel at times a bit over-engineered).

What’s the w and second number?
I have had this idea a of a great trilogy fanfiction themed around The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in my head for years because I grew up reading the books and watch them come to life at the same time. But I always got stuck in the plot or - more often - had unrelatable characters. So I tried to figure out why this happens and dug a little in how writing really works. So first I stumbled over the 16 MBTI personality types. I got so fast so frustrated because I was just overwhelmed by the sheer mass of information that I dumped the idea of ever writing a good fanfiction. But now I found the Enneagram and to me it was mindblowing. It really opened my eyes on how to make my characters act relatable and reasonable on internal and external conflict. So I'll use the Enneagram to build the base of the characters and hopefully use the MBTI personalities to sharpen them a little more. Thank you so much❤
I'm INFP but I think in the enneagramm I'm 8w9, although I wouldn't see myself as a "leader". But overall it fits well. "Defend themselves by building emotional walls and denying vulnerability"; "fear being hurt by others", "fear being controlled by others" sounds about right. Also 8s are said to turn into 2s when happy (when I'm happy I'm more of an ENFP style but also like gifting others and doting on them) and into 5s when stressed (massive overthinking and analyzing).
I personally prefer Enneagram to MBTI, partly because it's more straightforward and clearer to observe. There's just so much more to functions I learn something new everytime I get back into MBTI.
Enneagram is also perfect for character building and development since it is centered around concepts that are akin to how character motivators work.
I use both. I'm an INFJ (borderline INFP) and a type 2 (borderline type 4)

My Myer Briggs (Personality) has changed me recently from INFP to ESFJ. In fact, working with people and spending time with my family has changed my ways to this personality.

@Jojo H that could be me too. I am a little skeptical. :I have always enjoyed these type of personality tests but now work for a company that everyone is deeply into it. Moreover, I have become a huge advocate for the Herman Brain Dominance tool (plus My Motivators). I felt that it was far more relevant in understanding myself and others--and was a very useful tool for onboarding , leveraging skills talents, with really actionable things I can do to minimize my blind spots while leveraging other areas. It will be interesting to see how they judge me once they hear my #. Maybe I will sell them I am an 11 (9 plus 2) or is it 3 plus 6 plus 2?

I've had an interesting path in life. I'm a 3, and an INFP. I think a lot of it is that unlike most threes, my fear of failure and worthlessness, coupled with my need for validation, has caused me to avoid all things that could possibly result in failure, and become crippled with self doubt. I also, am an introvert, so instead of wanting everyone to love me, and be popular, I only really care about the validation and adoration of like, 3-6 people maximum.
P.S. It is really great you recommended richard rohr. He is my favorite teacher on this matter, and he's a priest so he preaches the truest extension of the enneagram, which is leading us back to our true self, and to God
An interesting point about type 6's being so common: I'm a 6 and can say from experience that 6's often can see themselves in others because 6's have a strong tendency for projection. My point is I wonder if it was a 6 who reported that half the world is other 6's 😅

I think I have a similar problem to you guys. I often just act like I think it would be best for the particular situation or I try to figure out what kind of person people around me need in that moment and then I become this person.
I'm an INTJ and a 5 but this is so true. I went from extremely weird changes in my childhood, my MBTI kept changing and eventually ended up as ENFJ (until I was 7) > INFJ (until I was 10) > INTJ. Where I live social status is incredibly important so even after I stopped Fe I had to build up a different personality so that I wouldn't get scolded by the teachers. Now I can't tell how much of what I feel in my head is true or me just creating the emotions I'm meant to feel in my mind.

Wow the exact same situation personality-wise like my mother and I, we don't understand each other much at all, at times it's very difficult to live together and to communicate because of these differences in how we see things. She believes she's so right in her conventional, rather narrow view of things, while I'm also convinced I am right in my own view ofc :). It's a battle truly.

Are you sure that you aren't an INFJ with a low J preference? Because that's definitely an INFJ Chameleon thing. I'm not certain if INFPs with low P preference also do it, though.

I am a ESTP and from your description, I would be a 7 or 8. I think all of this is useful and I look at this like statistics. You take what you can from all available descriptions or theories and you average them out. I also use the "5 Element" theory from Traditional Chinese Medicine to form a greater understanding with my clients.

I don't really trust the Enneagram that much because I don't understand the logic behind it, and its origins seem a bit esoteric, but it's fun to learn about other ways of typing than the Myers-Briggs test.

I'm def a ESxJ 6w7, although I'm often mistyped as 3 or 7. I don't leave my friends. I love making them feel included in a setting cause I know the feeling being left out. When they're in trouble, they need a job, I'll do my best for them to get out of that situation.
Even though I'm outgoing to everyone, deep down it takes me at least more than a year for me to consider you a friend. I see how they see me as. The last time I attach to someone, they don't feel the same way like I do. That hurts a lot but that can't be controlled lmao
