I probably should have also mentioned that you need a broker too in the Noble section! Brokers are used to give you a better estimation of the value of goods + help get better prices from traders!
IIRC having your bookkeeper set to highest precision will not only give you fully accurate item counts, but also tell you where each item is in your fort. Not much downside, either, as bookkeepers gain exp pretty quickly and it'll only take a season or two before their Legendary and can keep highest precision updated regularly in very little time.
iirc the reason its set to highest by default is because most players set it to 5 when they assigned it in DF Classic. It just saves that little bit of menuing.
Good tip: in labor - kitchen menu disable plump helmet cooking. Cooking plump helmet wont give seed back but brewing or any other process like milling does
Great tip, yeah! This is one of the things I'll be mentioning as part of my food guide coming out soon!
That macro tip saved me years of my life making bedrooms.
You demystified the macros for me! Right after I drew my dwarves' 50 identical bedrooms by hand... No matter - the next 50 will go up in a flash.
Thank you so much, subbed!
That macro tip is exactly why I subscribed.
Little indepth stuff like that, which all you veterans are already accustomed to and seemingly value as not worth mentioning, >GREATLY< increases my quality of life while playing. Great content.
for anyone diving in for the first time heres a tip that i learned the hardway, when cooking food be sure to not cook all of your plump helmets. Doing so will get rid of all your seeds. You can still eat them raw however and recover the spawns.
You can forbid your dorfs from using plump helmets for cooking at the "Labor" menu subtab called "Kitchen".
I like how thoughtful you are of your bookkeepers! A happy dwarf leads to a happy fortress!
Great stuff man, the macro feature is so hidden - I would have never found that without you!
As a automation game player that is so appreciated to find. Thanks!
This really helped! Couldn't figure out how to use macros until I watched this vid.
Looking forward to your next Dwarf Fortress video
Great content! Thank you =D
I learned from another youtuber that when designating bedrooms and such, you also want to select the wall around it as that is also included in the wealth of the room i believe it is
Good tips. Thanks for the video
Oh my lord... Thanks for this!!!
thanks! good to see these were not just bland common sense things! the macro stuff was helpful thanks!
The marcos are handy, thanks for the tip
really great tips man this game looks kind of complicated nice to get some help
Thanks for showing the macro usage! I've stopped playing because of not understanding how to
The tip about macros, good lord I needed that one
haha I couldnt figure out the health thing go figure I need the noble thanks for the tips very useful
Very helpful!
Great stuff, thanks.
I’m struggling with clutter management. How are your halls and stockpiles so clean? I have haulers, bins, and barrels but piles of stone are everywhere.
At the stage I made my video I was working my masons like dogs getting doors and cabinets out for my bedrooms and also had some big construction projects which used up a lot of the stone on that main z-level.
That being said, I have a video coming later today with an infinite stockpile trick!
excellent vid
Im trying to play on a laptop but I can't change the ui from % any help would be grand. Its 1024 x 768
Great tips. Keep em comin. Any tips on happiness would be really helpful for me rn lol
For happiness one thing is that "unmet needs" doesn't actually impact it - Dwarves with unmet needs are just less focused, although an unmet need for too long can lead to negative thoughts.
What you wanna look at is their thoughts to see what is pleasing/annoying them and also their values + personality can point you towards tasks that could hurt/help their mental state.
Also for some Dwarves it may not really matter - a dwarf who has either realised their dream or has the "doesn't care about anything anymore" trait won't tantrum.
Same. I’m not happy myself, idk why I thought I could make a whole colony of dwarves happy
great tips
how do you actually select the tile when trying to mine with the keyboard?
Once you have mine mode selected you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the cursor. Then you press enter to "click" the selected tile.
Thank you
Nice seed count!
cheers mate, have you done a squads tutorial yet? I'm curious about how to properly stockpile weapons armour, and get them to ultimately equip it thats the only thing I am stuck on really
I have a military tips video, yeah! One thing I recommend there is setting your squads up to always wear their armour, so they won't get confused trying to change between orders.
@@FurtherReadingTV Okay, I am going to have to work that out as their equipment still lays there in the weapon and armour stockpile
for some reasone in setting it does not give me the px but it says percetaneg from 1 to 100
I think there was a sneaky update as it's the same for me now too!
@@FurtherReadingTV I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix my ui 😢
Yay, macros are still working! Thanks a lot for the tip!
I checked up new macros and find some changes in its language but it seems old macros are easy to fix.
Do you know something about how to place order by hotkey in Steam version?
Some tips about keybindings are very useful too. Please, could you make?
There's still some missing/odd keybinding. I think I saw Toady mention that the classic update will come with some better keyboard support, so hopefully there'll be improvements for macros soon! (I had to place 160 screw pumps by hand the other day :( )
@@FurtherReadingTV Somwhere in web I've saw few hours ago an easy way to get all that old iterface. You need file interface-txt from version 47-05 and replace such file for Steam-version. Get details because my English not so well :)
And I do not try it so its only some news, not recommendations.
But I still not found any clear guide about "how to set keybindings" for DF. DFHack has but DFHack not working with SteamDF.
so addictive. I just had my first crash :(
Can macros be used to build stairs?
Yeah, you just need to use "e" and "c" to change z-level.
how do i delete a macro\?
I'm not sure. Dwarf Fortress classic would put them in a specific folder and you would have to delete the file, but I just checked and I am not seeing it in that folder in the steam install. :(
im just waiting for it to come on mac
more tips pls
Subscribing for some sweet DW tips.
Like grazing because my animals change the grass tile into a sand one as soon as they move over it... and dies of starvation
macros are gonna be a life saver
"69 seeds"
Nice...
69 seeds ... nice
Why are you a watermelon
You can't just ask someone why they're a watermelon!
@@FurtherReadingTV I am so cancelled :(
the macro thing is a life saver
