Nice comparison. I just picked up a Forerunner 55, but my previous watch was the original Coros Pace. My old Coros had a really odd button layout for my taste (start/stop being on the bottom left) but it looks like the wheel on the Pace 2 fixes that. One thing you didn't mention, which I am keen to try, is the "suggested workout" feature on the Garmin.

Glad I found your review! I've been looking a watch for swimming and it's a tough decision for me between these two. But I think I'm gonna go with Pace 2. Aside from a swimming features it has, Coros has a really cool display interface and for my taste, I love their Casio-esque design.

Solid review. One thing I would add is that the COROS Pace 2 also has power tracking built in and it is very good, in my book this makes it a clear winner.
Hi Brian - yes, great point! I know power is an important data metric for cycling...I never use it for running and need to learn more about doing so. Been using the COROS Apex and going to be reviewing soon so I will be sure to look into this more before that!
I have a Garmin 945 -- upgraded from the 935 so I could use it with my yahoo kickr -- but I don't like the sleep tracking. Let's say I get up early for whatever reason, then later take a nap. In that case, I'll get 2 separate sleep scores, both being poor, even though the nap should have been added to my normal sleep -- at least in my opinion.

Coros just issued a significant update to their platform and the Pace 2. It now supports breadcrum navigation and there is a new course builder in-app. I'm surprised they commit to a product that was released more than 2 years ago.

Good review. You could also mention that the Coros could show 6 data fields per page and the Garmin only 4. Which might be quite important for most runners/cyclists etc. Thank you.
Good point! 6 fields is a lot...not sure how you can see all that honestly lol. I just scroll through 2-3 screens on Garmin to access everything I want. Sometimes I only like it only on HR.

Great question about Strava - yes, it's super easy to pair and I've been using both in conjunction for several weeks with no issues! My husband is actually still using his FR225 and it's served him well, but he, too, is definitely feeling ready for an upgrade. I'm literally in the Garmin learning process right now. I thought I'd hate not having a touchscreen (still getting used to it) but you really can do a lot with 5 buttons.

Hello Jane! I was wondering which watch was better with running on a treadmill? Right now I am leaning towards the FR55 because of the gps accuracy but am heavily considering the pace 2 as well
Hi Diego - you are likely to find frustration with any watch you choose for treadmill running (I do at least). It's just tough to get accuracy - especially if you are going between faster and slower paces instead of staying steady. I felt like my Forerunner was pretty accurate for awhile and other times it's way off. If you think your treadmill is accurate, I think if you continually calibrate it then over time it should get better. A footpod is probably your best bet, though I personally haven't tried that.

Great video. Question....don't you set display settings like fields for the Coros on the app compare to on the watch on the Garmin? Also, I believe the Garmin safety feature requires your cell phone with you.
Hi there! You are correct - display fields are set (HR, distance, overall pace, lap pace, cadence, etc.) in the app for Coros and on the watch for Garmin. So that is something to consider if it matters to you. You are correct that to utilize LiveTracking, etc. you have to have your phone with you. If someone prefers the Coros watch, you could always download the Strava app on your phone and use Strava Beacon to have someone still be able to track you.

Hello Jane thanks for the review! As you already covered, the heart rate sensor is really making me hesitate switching from the 55 to the coros pace 2. I read reviews online and it’s the only very negative thing I see. Do you think it’s something really worth considering before buying? (Obviously pairing it with a chest strap is a deal breaker but as a high schooler I want to save money where I can 😂)
If you use HR a lot, you'll want accuracy as much as possible. My 55 works great on anything pretty steady; otherwise I connect with the chest strap.
Great review that is quite helpful! I ultimately went for the FR245 as I found a deal very close to the price of the FR55. It adds a better display and navigation to the great deal the FR55 already is. Is it just me or does the display on the FR55 in the video appear to be clearer, more reflective than the Coros's? That would mean a big plus for the FR55 too IMO.
That's awesome you found a great deal on the 245! I actually am really impressed with the crisp display on the Coros outdoors when doing a workout/run though the watch face I have on there does look a bit dull with the colors. Love the clarity of the FR55 display as well.
Hey running with Jane how’s it going? I just got the Garmin 45 recently which is like the Garmin 55, and I was wondering which gps option would u say is the best to choose for most accurate tracking and pace ? Regular gps? Glonass gps? Or galeleo gps mode? I run through a lot neighborhoods and tree coverage

In your situation I would use GPS combined with Galileo as that's supposed to be better for urban areas. Sounds like you might be ok to go with GPS alone since you're not running around tall buildings, but knowing that there are lots of trees around you might as well double up!
Oh ok thank you Jane! So u think galeleo would work better than glonass plus gps? I haven’t tried the galeleo plus gps option yet
@@SuperTreybo to be honest it is probably already very accurate with the setting that you have it on and the difference will be minimal. But you could try it and see what you think! (If you happen to have a trail by your house with mile markers that's a way you could test it out!)

From what I've read, CP2 is prob the better choice, but not being a cyclist it's hard for me to say. I do know the CP2 is really good for triathletes as you can record multiple sports in one workout.

When compared to USD it looks like 21/22k vs 26k is a pretty big difference. So unless you need the tougher gorilla glass or the navigation features the 245 has to offer, I'd go with the Coros or FR55. Between those two, I go over during the last several min. of this video who each watch is best for because they're pretty evenly matched but with a few differences. I'd personally choose the FR55 because I'm used to the buttons with Garmin. Hope that helps!

Hi Julie! Do you mean to show if you're in an anaerobic training zone based on heart rate? Then yes! It shows 5 training zones and anaerobic would be the highest in zone 5.

Will either one of these accommodate doing walk/runs, a workout where sometimes I'm walking and sometimes I'm running? I am looking for a GPS watch to replace my Garmin Forerunner 10, which is no longer charging.
You can program a workout with run/walk intervals!
no mention of native running power on the Pace 2? That's a pretty big feature that none of the Garmin lineup offer without additional sensors (not even the top of the line).
Yep, def a missed opportunity. At the time I made this I had barely ever heard of this metric and even now I'm still learning how to properly utilize it during my runs. Thanks for mentioning this extra reason someone might want to choose the Pace 2!
one question please we are interested in buying a watch for running cycling indoor and outdoor I was told about the coros pace 2 but also about the Huawei gt runner in your opinion which one is better and more reliable in terms of heart rate and GPS accuracy this is what I am most interested in thanks
Hey there! Unfortunately I can't speak to the Huawei as I haven't used it. But the Pace 2 is very accurate for both HR and GPS!
How do you feel about this now that EVOLAB is active? I have Pace 2 now but really would like daily recommended workouts.
Unfortunately I'm not the best person to answer this question as I don't own the Coros watch anymore...I use the Garmin FR 55 for all road training/racing now as I preferred it. Evolab definitely looks really cool for anyone who loves using lots of metrics.

i was looking for a cheap solid running/walking watch with HR sensor and GPS …. i just ordered FR55 i hope ill be happy with that :) If garmin vivosmart 4 had GPS module ill be ordering that :-D

So there’s no live tracking on the Coros at all? I was kinda leaning that direction but live tracking is fairly important for me.
Hey there! Pretty sure COROS doesn't have live tracking, but I don't know that 100%.
For the Forerunner 55... Custom watch faces from the IQ store are mostly not usable. The resolution on it is just too low for most of the custom watch faces.
Thanks for mentioning this Brian - good for everyone to know. The first one I downloaded actually looks great, but I could see this being an issue with ones I've used on my Fenix 6.

Hi Jane, you say in your video that your family could track you via live track during your marathon. Does that mean that you had your phone with you, or does live track work in absence of phone?
Hi Alison - you have to have your phone. I wear compression shorts with pockets and/or a sports bra with a pocket so that it's easy to carry!

Can we record the data in Garmin Forerunner 55 without carrying a smartphone? and would it record with good accuracy or the accuracy will get compromised because of not using the smartphone?
Absolutely! No need to have a smartphone with you to record anything related to running (accuracy is exactly the same either way). You just need to have your phone with you if you want to use the safety features such as Livetrack or be able to scroll through music.
As a cyclist, I just got the Coros Pace 2 because of the bigger display, 6 data fields on each page, elevation with grade %, 2 buttons, crazy battery life, less expensive, and looks better imho.

Which of them can give you the training details like how much each kilometer bace and time in the watch screen
If you're talking about details during a run like lap pace, average pace, elapsed time, HR, time of day, etc they both do that and are both customizable on what you see!
COROS's Track-run mode is trying to keep u in the track and not let your GPS signal go outside the track , around the football pitch 😂 I guess
Haha right??! I think that was a weird aspect since it wouldn't be that uncommon for someone to do their warm-up and cool-down to and from a track. Guess you have to split it into 3 different sessions. Thanks for watching and hope you found the review helpful!

I'm still using a chest strap that send the HR to a watch band but it's not a smart watch and not bluetooth so it does not work with a phone. Ive had it for 12 years No recording of data. I think it was $40. Now I'm looking at the Polar H10 for $81 in case I want to Christmas Present

Have you ever been 100K, yet?? I just need to know, Is the battery life of fr55 able to cover all 100km long?? but clearly the pace 2 able to cover that long or maybe much more.
I usually run pace 6 in practices mode with 10k, 21k, 42k and PB 47 min/10k. I ve never been the 100k, yet but I m gonna go.
A 100k is an amazing goal! I have never come close to running 100k and quite honestly isn't something I will likely do - though I would like to scratch the surface of ultramarathons some day. As for if the Forerunner 55 will make it that long...as long as you can complete the distance in less than 20 hours (looks like the average finisher completes the distance in around 10 hours), then yes, the watch is capable of lasting that distance on a full charge.

I got a gift during Memorial Day the forerunner 55 and forerunner 245 we’re both on sale and I had make quick decision because I didint know which one was better to get the 245 or 255. I ended up choosing 245 Garmin do u think I made the right choice? I’m a distance runner also was 245 better choice ?
Either are great for road training and racing!! You really can't go too wrong with Garmin all the way around.

Hey Mark! FR 55 you can control music from the watch if your phone is with you, but it's not stored internally. CP2 doesn't have any music functionality.

Bonjour Jane, je ne parle pas couramment l'anglais mais je crois comprendre que ton choix final est Garmin 55 ce qui est logique puisque tu portes une fénix6 s. Je suis 🇫🇷, aussi client et adepte Garmin , actuellement une 645M mais je pense qu'aujourd'hui que Coros offre plus de possibilités que Garmin pour un coût d'achat moindre. Seul manque à Coros la partie logiciel sur PC.
D'ailleurs je pense changer de marque pour une Apex pro.
Le problème de Garmin est dans le suivi de ces anciennes montres qu'ils abandonnent en négligeant le client.
La seule réponse donnée : vôtre montre est trop vieille passée 2ans,il faut reprendre un nouveau modèle.

Hi Bruno, thanks so much for sharing your experience! Both watches are fantastic, but I still have both and I continue to reach for the FR55 every time. It's reliable, easy to use and being able to scroll through music is something that matters to me! I do see what you're saying about getting more bang for your buck with the Coros in some regards. I guess it comes down to which of those features you're actually going to use.
As for needing a new model every 2 years...maybe because you want the best and brightest, but my husband still uses his 6-year-old Forerunner and it works great for his current needs. I guess time will tell on these newer models.

Hi Jane, I also have old forerunners such as the 305, the 201 that works but whose GPS chip is a little outdated to get a fast signal. What is important is to have a watch that gives the best information, that is simple in operation and multisports for an incomparable ratio/ quality/ price. That’s what Coros brings today.
