Yep...the music and safety features are why I end up grabbing for the Forerunner 55 - plus the buttons I'm just used to. But yeah, you were right on the money when you said the Garmin app needs a refresh!! It's looked the same for years and it definitely has some weird quirks. Do still think CP2 is amazing also! Great comparison, Matt!

@@its_Matt_B_ any suggestion regarding hybrid bicyle ? if you know, because I am yet to begin cycling as well and thinking of Fuji Absolute 1.9 / Giant / Marin FX 2 models, these models fits my budget.
@@sunrise_sunshine Sorry, that is way outside my area of expertise! I don't know much about the different brands and what makes one better than the other!
I'd get the 55, it has a walking activity (I'm not sure the pace 2 does) supports connect IQ apps, and with that I can get breadcrumb maps, and running power if I really want to (though native running power on the pace 2 is probably better)
Ive the coros pace 2 ive had it for a while now its cheap & easy to use, surprisingly well built for such a cheap watch.....ive been looking to upgrade to a garmin or a different watch but i cant seem to force myself to change. After all if its not broken why change.
COROS keeps updating their watches, so the Pace 2 you have today is vastly better than the Pace 2 you bought! I just got the Pace 3 and have been testing it and it's a nice upgrade simply because of the updated GPS chipset (optional dual-frequency) and OHR. I see no reason for 99% of runners to need anymore than the Pace 2 (and now Pace 3) offers.
@@its_Matt_B_ couldn't agree more. Its nice to see the pace 3 out but personally for myself they haven't included enough for me to upgrade to it. But the pace 3 is outstanding value when compared to other brands off watches
I agree with you! I didn't have any issues with GPS and HR accuracy with my Pace 2. I imagine the changes have made it better for more people! @@markhill8590
@@its_Matt_B_ forgot to ask if you had to pick one garmin just for your everyday runner what model would you recommend? Thanks......asking for future reference.
@@markhill8590 I don't have a lot of experience with newer Garmin watches. I keep my Fenix 5X around just as a comparison tool. With that said, I feel the same way about Garmin as I do about COROS; most people do not need 70% of the features offered on watches so as long as the GPS/HR is accurate most of the time, I think the watches on the lower end of the price spectrum are fine. The FR55 is still a great watch and my conclusion between the FR55 and the COROS Pace 2 still stands; if you like the extra things Garmin watches can do (apps), then Garmin is the way to go. Also, if you just like Garmin and their ecosystem, I think that's a good enough reason to choose Garmin. Like most people I can easily be swayed by the more expensive options. So to boil it down: it's about budget. The FR55 will track your runs/HR with accuracy and is def. good enough. The FR265 is a solid mid-point watch and I'm sure you'd be more happy with the build quality!
Hey, great comparison! Would you say one of the two has significantly better gps tracking? I will mainly use it for running. I dont want all the fancy features, just the basics for running, so im leaning towards the Pace 2.
Ultimately I don’t think there is much of a difference in GPS accuracy. Both Garmin and COROS have great hardware. You’d make a good choice to go with the Pace 2.
You didn’t say much about how the watches perform in workout mode. I own the pace 2 and am disappointed by two aspects of its performance during workouts: (1) at the start of each interval, the watch reverts to a default data screen that cannot be modified or turned off. If you are running a pace-based work out, the watch shows current pace but does not show interval pace or current heartrate. So at the start of each interval, I have to scroll back to my preferred screen. (2) You can’t turn on alerts during workouts. In other words, you can’t set two types of targets. During a pace-based workout, I like to turn on a minimum-cadence alert or set a target cadence range. Not possible on Pace 2.
@@its_Matt_B_ Thanks for passing along my comments! I submitted them to Coros at least 6 months ago; the customer service people acknowledged my message but didn’t say anything else.
@@RunnerdJK This was a good firmware update for sure! The rate at which COROS pushes out fixes and features is the best part about having a COROS watch!!

There are definite discrepancies in HR accuracy depending where on your wrist you wear it, how tight it is, and skin color. For me the HR accuracy of the Pace 2 is excellent. I haven’t heard anything about the Pace 3.
Excellent comparison, Matt! That's very helpful. Any impressions re the usefulness of training guides and fatigue/readiness metrics on one system vs the other? (Seems like Garmin gets bashed pretty often on this.) Are either of them worth seriously paying attention to?
Cheers, Eddie! I wouldn't say the fatigue/readiness scores interchangeable ,between Garmin and Coros, but i'm sure they provide a certain level of accuracy for the user. The only thing is that so much of training is specific to the individual, so while the algorithm may provide some guidance as to the readiness of hard workout, an appropriate training plan should also take the athlete's fatigue into account. With that said, I like looking at the number provided, but it doesn't guide what I do in any way.
Excellent Job bro! However, I am still at a cross roads between the CP2 or F55. Now I am aware that the F55 offers a pacing feature (pace pro) that allows you to set and maintain a pace during a run. But, does the CP2 offer such feature as well? And if so, can you do a video to educate us further?
Hi! No, the Pace 2 does not have a feature similar to Garmin's Pace Pro, however, unless that is a specific feature you think you need on a regular basis, I'd still recommend the COROS Pace 2. The Pace 2 does have a barometric altimeter, which allows it to measure power. Using power data would give you the same effect as pace pro, as you would decide on a power output, and then your pace would automatically adjust (on uphills and downhills) to stay at the same power output.
Hmm, it depends. If you could get it for a good price, it could still be worth it, but for $200 it is a little expensive for what you get. Garmin has their new FR165 for $250.
The Pace 2 measures power and is a more bare-bones running watch. The FR245 is more expensive but does have a few more smart features. If you have the means and want the watch with the most features, the FR245 is the way to go. If you want to spend less and/or want to measure your running power, get the Pace 2.
