to be fair, the apartment wasn't small to begin with, its just that all the previous walls and division of rooms ate up all the space that was then revealed and utilized in this renovation.
@@Rubiecat I can tell that to you, travel a little and you'll see that it's not that small. Every big city has a lot of apt much smaller than this. Oh and try going out of the USA and Canada.
@@zhonguocha that's a really dumb thing to say lo, by giving the price we can understand how much value is being drawn to these spaces, it puts a unique context into the crisis of city housing and answers the question of living affordably (or not) with limited spaces.
From the designer's site: the project is conceived as a prototype for micro living in existing housing. It is not for sale or it was made for someone that already owns the flat, I could not find a price
If it helps, from the several nts videos I’ve watched many of the houses sit in 150k range, but the maintenance costs are lower. I’m not so sure about apartments/ flats though, as I assume the rent would be based on square foot as well as amenities and location 🤷
I think if you can afford it, input from an expert (architect, interior designer, kitchen designer) almost always results in a better outcome. If nothing else, they will provide an array of options, some of which the layperson didn't even know were out there.

They have laws preventing building codes meaning you HAVE to use a car to get to places like that. Which means they have laws preventing you to have the kind of fun you have whilst walking or biking. The whole freedom ideology the Americans have with cars is completely false. The reason? You have to park the damn thing wherever you take it. You have complete freedom when you are in a walkable place. Yeah, no, I’m good.
Design luxury, yes, but not space luxury. His saying that the standard size dining table is luxury makes this seem worse, not better. Why not just say what it is - a very well-designed, practical and beautiful small space - rather then luxury?
I love this. An as the architect says. We shouldn't just be knocking these old buildings down. They have great structure, strength and keep a style that I feel is often unmatched in modern day society. Therefore, we should utilise and reframe what we already have. ❤️
Especially when older options are probably better built than modern houses, only real issue tends to be a lack of right angles that goes up with the age
Studying interior architecture in the UK, I picked up on the companies that were mentioned and I'm really impressed by how, despite not mentioning carbon footprint of the materials used, the companies chosen for this project were strongly sustainability-focused (thinking about Clayworks or Forbo). It's great to see designers and architects treating sustainability as a standard
@@denisa9497 I'm at Falmouth University - the campus is 5 minutes away from a sandy beach, there are palm trees and beautiful gardens all around and the tutors are absolutely amazing! The course team makes a lot of effort to provide opportunities to their students and give them a great experience (even if there are some people higher up in the department that aren't very good at their jobs). Overall I think that this course was super demanding - seeing the workload of people on other courses at Falmouth Uni, interiors probably make you work 3-5 times harder, and it has its advantages and disadvantages. If you're up for a challenge, I'd highly recommend cause we all left we a load of experience, points on our cvs and projects to present :) There's also a lot of collaboration between courses and great workshops on campus!
This is so beautiful and functional at the same time. I love that the bed is perched on top of the space with an opening to peek out of... Feels very comforting and safe. That walk-in closet is amazing as well, I can't believe how much they were able to fit in such a small space and keep it airy and functional. I wish more people could afford to have their homes designed by an architect... Good design should be something everyone can enjoy.
The other thing I love about this space is how lots of the furniture isn’t built in and could be changed to adapt to the design preferences of different people. Also, that there’s spare space and wall areas left over where additional furniture could be used if possible. Too often, I think these apartments have everything built in from the outset, often before the space has truly been lived in, and it makes them less flexible and adaptable. They end up being a bit too ‘permanent’ for my liking. This one strikes the right balance.
Loved this one! Finally enough storage space, a proper sized kitchen/living area, a full bed ánd space to put your clothes and mischelaneous items. It's small, but doesn't feel tiny.
Stunning, one of the very best from Never Too Small. The only change I would make to continue the Japanese theme would be to make the stairs into individual pull out drawers in a nod to Japanese traditional chests. Great spaces for shoes, books etc as well.
I love the functionality of the bed/closet/laundry storage area. I have seen many designers make the mistake of putting a living area below the bed loft... however doing so makes the space feel dark, and enclosed. Using the area below the bed for a walk in closet and laundry, freezer, etc is the perfect use of the space. A useful area tucked away out of sight
@@invaderzimismyfav Why? You don't really need a freezer at all, only meat, icecream and ice should stock in the freezer. If you want to eat meat is better to buy it right before cooking, frozen meat taste very bad.

This is not at all practical. There is zero workspace for the so-called young professionals that he claims. The kitchen is unnecessarily way too big for, again, young professionals or young urban generation that he kept referring to.
For how small this place is the designer did really well at making it feel big and luxurious, and yes! The amount of times I’ve been annoyed by absolutely no counter space in the videos on this channel lol
@@royalaza You kind of get used to it. I've been living with a one meter wide kitchen for 3.5 years now. While I would love a kitchen with a little more space you get used to it. I have a cutting board that fits over the sink and I got used to cleaning up as I go. It's not Ideal but I kind of arranged myself with it.
Apart from showing how efficiently we can live in spaces we "require" rather than spaces we "like to own", this video and especially the narration (and the warm lighting throughout the house) is so so calming and soothing. Thank you!

I grew up in a poor neighborhood but I always read books and wanted to explore the world and visit places like New York, Paris. I didn't know how I could make it happen but I just imagined myself doing. Eventually, different opportunities came and I was able to do everything I dreamed of when I was younger. Just try to manifest the things you want and don't worry about how you will get there.
Go for it guys! Do the things you love. Don’t end up like me studying for something i am completely unhappy in. If i lived another life, i would definitely study architecture
I appreciate a small apartment that makes the most of its space through good design, without feeling like a Swiss army knife with too many folding and interlocking elements. This flat fits that description beautifully, especially since the Japanese screen are meant more as a visual separator rather than a way of cramming something else in.
Such a great use of the high ceiling. Bed nooks can be hit or miss, but this one looks cozy from the outside and visually appealing from the inside. The rest of the apartment feels like a perfectly "normal" size, even bigger than it actually is in a way. It doesn't feel cramped at all and the minimalist design still feels warm and comfortable.
Just imagine if all the beautiful older homes that are everywhere in the UK were adapted like this. As long as sound proofing is also installed it's a way to extend the lives of the houses while providing fabulous living for far more people. I absolutely love it & though I've always hated apartments/flats I'd live in it in a heartbeat.
These small spaces are very interesting, but they do assume a high amount of mobility from the person living in the space. From the unique staircase to the very high storage nooks. Even being middle aged, it's somewhat daunting. Can't imagine navigating this as a senior!
well, as important as “accessibility ” is in general design and everyday life, i believe this apartment is tailored to accomodate the client’s specific needs and desire.
I agree. I have been looking at small Japanese apartments with a loft that's accessed via portable ladders. I kept thinking what would happen if I had a drink or two and had to climb the ladder and what if I slip and fall... The alternating staircase in this one could be interesting to deal with when you are buzzed or sleepy.
Actually, this is my dream apartment someday. It is not claustrophobic. Also, because of the white painting of the walls and the loft bed, it looks so peaceful to live there. I really loved it!
That is absolutely gorgeous. Still getting across that sense of space and taking advantage of the high ceiling, but also indulging the "cave" instinct many people have. Now they just need a cat!

I renovated my own house this year and got 2 bedrooms (besides living, kitchen, foyer and bathroom) out of a 45sqm apartment from 1930 so I'm quite proud of myself! these kind of videos helped a lot :)
The japanese open concept was amazing! The replace of birch to cedar wood was spot on as well. This was well thought off by the design&archi team. Natural light n ambient light was well considered. The replacement of washi paper on opaque shoji door was brilliant. Window w/o curtain but given a potted to plant is d only way just to have visual impact. Happy to see western giving much tot to eastern japanese concept. Arigato gosaimasu!
This is really ingenious & one of the best tiny apartments I've seen. It doesn't feel cramped at all, looks very modern/elegant, and all the space seems to be used smartly. You wouldn't be able to have a bunch of people over, especially to stay overnight, but it is perfect for one person with minimal stuff. If I didn't have so much stuff I would consider getting one of these 😭
This channel has made me become a sucker for sleeping pod. I also love the smooth floor finish which contributes to the overall lightness of the whole apartment.
This is the most beautiful I have ever seen! The colors, and the way how everything is arranged. So homey, clean, bright. The windows are stunning. The bathroom is clean, the whole house is just impeccable.
The alternative tread staircase sounds interesting in theory, but I can only imagine the hustle of going to the toilet for a nightly visit, or when you're not feeling too well.
Yeah, not thrilled about the stairs from an aesthetic point. I wonder how a ladder-esque approach would work. I mean even the guy demonstrating starts with the right foot on the higher side, then stumbles as the second step doesn’t follow the same height.
high quality architecture indeed… it’s inspiring (I have to mention how much I agree with retrofitting older buildings, they are so important when creating a beautiful city, there’s no need to destroy something when you know how to properly innovate with it and collaborate with history)
The over all design is good. The Architect did a great job incorporating all the elements and right choices of colors for a 29 sq.m micro apartment the users couldn't ever imagine the spaces can be looked wider. What an inspiration and truly a good design.
@@VeraDonna I think a young person might have problems too if they’d had a couple of drinks. Would be easy to slip off the bed. But I agree that it’s a great design and plenty of room for a single person.
This is such a fantastic design! The open concept lets the spaces really breathe and the loft bed is awesome for privacy if you have guests sleeping in the living room. What smart design choices! And love the amount of counter and storage space for the kitchen!
That bay window really makes this space - I could see it with a comfy lounge fitted under the windows. I like this design overall. Not the stars, like others have said. I think in years to come lots of these spaces with staggered stairs will have them ripped out and redesigned. The space looks like it would fit normal stairs, but if they were too steep you could redesign and sacrifice some of the wardrobe space, so the stairs are L shaped, which reduces the steepness. Since you can also have under stair storage, you probably wouldn't actually lose much storage space.
Not a fan of the stairs either but unfortunately and L shape would eat either sleeping space (so you wouldn't be able to fit a mattress) or living space, even if the vertical space were to allow for them
This might be one of the most well thought out spaces I've seen. It's tiny, but it literally has everything. I love seeing how people design and style tiny spaces, but they are almost lacking something major or just straight up don't seem like they'd be comfortable to actually live in. You've got a king sized bed which is unheard of in a space this small. And it actually seems cozy, not like an afterthought shoved and hidden into a nook. You've got a decent sized, workable kitchen. Again, not something you see often. The bathroom is a good size. And everything else is so open. Really impressive. I feel like a lot of tiny spaces get too caught up in trying to make weird storage angles and sacrifice actual usability for aesthetic. I could see any normal person living here, not just someone who owns two articles of clothing, 3 books, and either has no down time or spends it reading those same three books over and over.
great updated design. One thing that people don't seem to notice with these 'wow' micro homes is that they almost always have incredibly high ceilings giving them much more usable space. When your place has less than 8 foot ceilings, you are extremely limited to what you can do to make the space seem more open.
I absolutely love this apartment. The use of space is elegant and practical. The design is peaceful and lovely. I especially like the bed nook above the walk in storage/closet, it creates so much more livable floor space for the rest of the apartment and a cocoon like sleeping area as well. Just so well thought out, very good work and kudos to the design team.
This is one of the best sleeping lofts I've seen! The good-sized landing next to the bed allows a person to stand upright, and there's enough headroom over the bed to crawl to the far end of the mattress and sit fully upright. I'm never a fan of steep stairs or ladders to access a loft, but the alternating treads probably make this one feel like a safer climb. And this architect included a basic necessity that almost all loft builders omit: Handrails on the both sides of the stairs! They're a small detail, but they increase safety quite a bit. As for the rest of the space, it's exceptional! I would feel deprived without ample space to cook/bake and entertain. Not only is the kitchen/dining area large, but the floor plan is so open that the dining table could be reoriented and expanded to accommodate more guests. (I always evaluate living areas for their potential to host a large crowd like my family.) The finishes in the space are also lovely. When I decorate, I don't typically gravitate toward so much white and light-colored wood--but it's a great choice in micro apartments. The light from the windows is bounced all around the open space, helping it feel airy rather than small and tight.
Well done! It's nice that the wood is light, not overbearing. The one thing that I really think could add to it, is making the bookshelve in the alcove fold or slide out to a small desk/study. Because that's the one function that isn't really present, and also seems so natural to put it there.
BEAUTIFUL!! I think the only changes that would make this ABSOLUTELY PERFECT is by utilizing the 2 larger panels next to the drawers in the living room w/ a washer/dryer combo & one side for a regular size fridge. Keep them as “doors” that with a simple & light press, they click open & the same for closing them, so they still appear as just walls. This way you don’t lose any additional space/storage from the walk in closet. Same exact concept on all the steps. Quick push & each step opens up like extra little “draws”from the direct front facing view as u walk up the stairs to the bedroom area. Can use those for shoes or just more storage space for whatever else u may need.
the cacoon's light and lightness is amazing. as someone who really loves plywood design (and knows it can be a little heavy sometimes), this is so pure and calm. the architects really got the japanese archtiecture concept in this one. congratulations

Light management is amazing, space is used very intelligently, window being seen from bed is awesome, bathroom has ample space and the custom built cabinet is really useful. The idea of micro living is really awesome in itself.
Privacy from what? The whole apartment is for that single person. So, if I live there alone and one day I want to be lazy and stay in bed, I would need no privacy. This dude removed the walls to gain space and bring light. But, in the same time the owner sleeps in a aluminium and plastic box. There is nothing showed about the bathroom, but there is a lot of wasted space for the kitchen, while the living is reduced to a weird sofa, a small cabinet a stool, an armchair and something which wants to be a coffee table. And everywhere is plywood. Sorry, but I doubt someone can actually live there permanently.
@@1zanglang A couple could fit in there perfectly well, and sometimes you don't wanna talk 24/7, hence the privacy of the bed. Bathroom was shown and has a great size, even a window. There is ample space to put more furniture if one does wish so-not having 2-3 tiny rooms allows for that flexibility. Good quality plywood can last quite long, if sealed properly

This is the best micro home that I’ve seen (I’ve seen a lot!) and it’s in my hometown (big up London!). A walk-in wardrobe, fridge freezer, a large area for entertaining (or relaxing), tons of storage space and built-in bookcase/area for working, plus a King’s Size bed? All in 318 sqft? My idea of heaven. 🇬🇧
Oh wow, this place is just incredibly magnificent. I loved the dominant bright colors that they’re putting into it and blend perfectly during the day time when there’s a sunshine.

This is a very well thought and beautiful design, it shows how much we can play with small apartments such as this one. The natural palette and sort of minimalistic japanese boho look gives us the impression that it is much larger that what it actually is! Kudos to the designer, it is simply stunning!
Absolutely love the feeling of light, warmth and space that has been achieved with this design. The colours and materials chosen give this flat a degree of cosiness, while inspiring creativity in an almost Zen-like way. Absolutely beautiful! Wish there were strategic places dedicated for some plants to infuse an organic feel to it as well.
Something I always think about when I watch Never Too Small is that it would be awesome to know where the furniture/ furnishings come from. I can't help it!

What more could I want? The space doesn’t feel small at all and has the luxurious amenities of a multi-room apartment. It’s even comfortable for having a guest over and still offering privacy to all. The storage is so well done and thought out, I feel like the entire place offers more storage opportunities than my own apartment yet none of the storage put in subtract from the living space.
This has to be one of the best and most thought-through designs featured on the channel so far. Excellent work and great filming too. I don‘t quite feel the heavy use of plywood, always seems a bit „cheap“ to me. But maybe it was also chosen for environmental reasons?
@@isoutoforbit Same here. They look modern but they're not comfortable. Also, if they're built a little too tall you'll feel like you're constantly sliding forward (my sister has these chairs in her house). Then you'll be pushing against the floor to keep your rear on the seat. Lol.
Fantastic job in such a small space. It looks much bigger than it really is. A couple could live there very comfortably and not feel cramped. The small area available has been maximised so well.
IMO this is one of the most liveable apartments featured on Never Too Small. Great to see something in London too, as this is an area that suffers from poor quality living accommodation and high prices. (For those not familiar with UK prices, one bed flats in Belsize Park sell for around £700,000).
He needs to work alongside every borough in London this is amazing, the space transformed and i like what he said about not tearing down existing buildings to make taller ones.

One of my favorites! I live in a 1 br unit in a VHCOL area in the US, it's about 900 sqft - not tiny but with 2 people working from home on different schedules we are starting to feel its constraints. I wonder how much it would cost to totally renovate our place into something like what we'd see on this channel...
If it were my place, I would of replaced the inset bookcase 3:02 with a desk and make the lights around the cabinets able to change to different colors because I'm a big fan of LED neon lights. I probably would also make the living room couch of type of futon that can go from a bed to a couch for guests that stay over. A dishwasher too would be added. They never said if it had one, but that is a must for me. Overall, this design is fantastic. Well done! ♥
Never liked the idea of put bedroom on top with limited height. But just be honest, this allows to have a *Easy Usable* the storage room under the bedroom. Brilliant & Perfect View+Bathroom has windows too- -. Home, cozy home in capital. :)

Judging at how fast the UK population is growing, this flat will be seen as massive for the young people competing for space in the future.
29m is not small. Here most apts are much smaller. 16-22m. 29 is a 1 bedroom apt.

It's also much more sustainable. Knocking buildings down and building new ones costs so much waste in materials and effort.
There's a housing crisis and you can house more people by building taller buildings.

Loved this one! Finally enough storage space, a proper sized kitchen/living area, a full bed ánd space to put your clothes and mischelaneous items. It's small, but doesn't feel tiny.
Does it really qualify as a full bed? I can't tell how high it is but I doubt you can do more than sleep in there, if you get what I mean.
It's a pretty high bed loft - it's at least 1.20m so enough to sit up. Better then a lot of others I've seen.
Stunning, one of the very best from Never Too Small. The only change I would make to continue the Japanese theme would be to make the stairs into individual pull out drawers in a nod to Japanese traditional chests. Great spaces for shoes, books etc as well.

I think the underneath of the stair are utilised in the walk in wardrobe underneath.

I love the functionality of the bed/closet/laundry storage area. I have seen many designers make the mistake of putting a living area below the bed loft... however doing so makes the space feel dark, and enclosed. Using the area below the bed for a walk in closet and laundry, freezer, etc is the perfect use of the space. A useful area tucked away out of sight

This is not at all practical. There is zero workspace for the so-called young professionals that he claims. The kitchen is unnecessarily way too big for, again, young professionals or young urban generation that he kept referring to.
Having the doors and cabinates be flush and appear like walls really helps to make it feel larger and removes any barrier of liminality, super cool!
My problem with these really small living spaces is usually the kitchen being too small but this one is perfect! Actually enough space to really cook
For how small this place is the designer did really well at making it feel big and luxurious, and yes! The amount of times I’ve been annoyed by absolutely no counter space in the videos on this channel lol
@@royalaza You kind of get used to it. I've been living with a one meter wide kitchen for 3.5 years now. While I would love a kitchen with a little more space you get used to it. I have a cutting board that fits over the sink and I got used to cleaning up as I go.
It's not Ideal but I kind of arranged myself with it.
at the same time though, the contents of the cupboards gave me the impression the owner doesn't cook a lot.
Apart from showing how efficiently we can live in spaces we "require" rather than spaces we "like to own", this video and especially the narration (and the warm lighting throughout the house) is so so calming and soothing. Thank you!

I grew up in a poor neighborhood but I always read books and wanted to explore the world and visit places like New York, Paris. I didn't know how I could make it happen but I just imagined myself doing. Eventually, different opportunities came and I was able to do everything I dreamed of when I was younger. Just try to manifest the things you want and don't worry about how you will get there.
Go for it guys! Do the things you love. Don’t end up like me studying for something i am completely unhappy in. If i lived another life, i would definitely study architecture

I appreciate a small apartment that makes the most of its space through good design, without feeling like a Swiss army knife with too many folding and interlocking elements. This flat fits that description beautifully, especially since the Japanese screen are meant more as a visual separator rather than a way of cramming something else in.
Such a great use of the high ceiling. Bed nooks can be hit or miss, but this one looks cozy from the outside and visually appealing from the inside. The rest of the apartment feels like a perfectly "normal" size, even bigger than it actually is in a way. It doesn't feel cramped at all and the minimalist design still feels warm and comfortable.
Just imagine if all the beautiful older homes that are everywhere in the UK were adapted like this. As long as sound proofing is also installed it's a way to extend the lives of the houses while providing fabulous living for far more people. I absolutely love it & though I've always hated apartments/flats I'd live in it in a heartbeat.
These small spaces are very interesting, but they do assume a high amount of mobility from the person living in the space. From the unique staircase to the very high storage nooks. Even being middle aged, it's somewhat daunting. Can't imagine navigating this as a senior!
Pretty much all small spaces are made for young people, who have less money. So its understandable.

I agree. I have been looking at small Japanese apartments with a loft that's accessed via portable ladders. I kept thinking what would happen if I had a drink or two and had to climb the ladder and what if I slip and fall... The alternating staircase in this one could be interesting to deal with when you are buzzed or sleepy.
Cannot imagine using those stairs after a night at the pub even if I was 25 and not 65. Great design and use of space

Actually, this is my dream apartment someday. It is not claustrophobic. Also, because of the white painting of the walls and the loft bed, it looks so peaceful to live there. I really loved it!
That is absolutely gorgeous. Still getting across that sense of space and taking advantage of the high ceiling, but also indulging the "cave" instinct many people have. Now they just need a cat!

I renovated my own house this year and got 2 bedrooms (besides living, kitchen, foyer and bathroom) out of a 45sqm apartment from 1930 so I'm quite proud of myself! these kind of videos helped a lot :)
The japanese open concept was amazing! The replace of birch to cedar wood was spot on as well. This was well thought off by the design&archi team. Natural light n ambient light was well considered. The replacement of washi paper on opaque shoji door was brilliant. Window w/o curtain but given a potted to plant is d only way just to have visual impact. Happy to see western giving much tot to eastern japanese concept. Arigato gosaimasu!
This is really ingenious & one of the best tiny apartments I've seen. It doesn't feel cramped at all, looks very modern/elegant, and all the space seems to be used smartly. You wouldn't be able to have a bunch of people over, especially to stay overnight, but it is perfect for one person with minimal stuff. If I didn't have so much stuff I would consider getting one of these 😭
I think you could still host quite a few people for a dinner party quite comfortably! Maybe even 10-15.
This channel has made me become a sucker for sleeping pod. I also love the smooth floor finish which contributes to the overall lightness of the whole apartment.

The alternative tread staircase sounds interesting in theory, but I can only imagine the hustle of going to the toilet for a nightly visit, or when you're not feeling too well.

I mean even the guy demonstrating starts with the right foot on the higher side, then stumbles as the second step doesn’t follow the same height.
I had a loft bed until I was 16, I could easily go up and down when really sleepy but needing the loo. A lot of stuff your body just knows how to do.
Those days, you can move to the couch;)
This is the only part of the Project that I disliked. It's not very accessible
high quality architecture indeed… it’s inspiring (I have to mention how much I agree with retrofitting older buildings, they are so important when creating a beautiful city, there’s no need to destroy something when you know how to properly innovate with it and collaborate with history)

The over all design is good. The Architect did a great job incorporating all the elements and right choices of colors for a 29 sq.m micro apartment the users couldn't ever imagine the spaces can be looked wider. What an inspiration and truly a good design.
I would love to see spaces like this for more older people, who tend to have more health and mobility issues.

@@VeraDonna I think a young person might have problems too if they’d had a couple of drinks. Would be easy to slip off the bed. But I agree that it’s a great design and plenty of room for a single person.
This is such a fantastic design! The open concept lets the spaces really breathe and the loft bed is awesome for privacy if you have guests sleeping in the living room. What smart design choices! And love the amount of counter and storage space for the kitchen!
That bay window really makes this space - I could see it with a comfy lounge fitted under the windows. I like this design overall. Not the stars, like others have said. I think in years to come lots of these spaces with staggered stairs will have them ripped out and redesigned. The space looks like it would fit normal stairs, but if they were too steep you could redesign and sacrifice some of the wardrobe space, so the stairs are L shaped, which reduces the steepness. Since you can also have under stair storage, you probably wouldn't actually lose much storage space.
Not a fan of the stairs either but unfortunately and L shape would eat either sleeping space (so you wouldn't be able to fit a mattress) or living space, even if the vertical space were to allow for them
The sofa if placed near the bay windows will be nicer.

This might be one of the most well thought out spaces I've seen. It's tiny, but it literally has everything. I love seeing how people design and style tiny spaces, but they are almost lacking something major or just straight up don't seem like they'd be comfortable to actually live in. You've got a king sized bed which is unheard of in a space this small. And it actually seems cozy, not like an afterthought shoved and hidden into a nook. You've got a decent sized, workable kitchen. Again, not something you see often. The bathroom is a good size. And everything else is so open. Really impressive. I feel like a lot of tiny spaces get too caught up in trying to make weird storage angles and sacrifice actual usability for aesthetic. I could see any normal person living here, not just someone who owns two articles of clothing, 3 books, and either has no down time or spends it reading those same three books over and over.
All I'm missing is a (semi-)dedicated WFH spot. That apartment looks a lot bigger than the 29m2 footprint suggests. Very well done. Love the style!
great updated design. One thing that people don't seem to notice with these 'wow' micro homes is that they almost always have incredibly high ceilings giving them much more usable space. When your place has less than 8 foot ceilings, you are extremely limited to what you can do to make the space seem more open.
I absolutely love this apartment. The use of space is elegant and practical. The design is peaceful and lovely. I especially like the bed nook above the walk in storage/closet, it creates so much more livable floor space for the rest of the apartment and a cocoon like sleeping area as well. Just so well thought out, very good work and kudos to the design team.
This is one of the best sleeping lofts I've seen! The good-sized landing next to the bed allows a person to stand upright, and there's enough headroom over the bed to crawl to the far end of the mattress and sit fully upright. I'm never a fan of steep stairs or ladders to access a loft, but the alternating treads probably make this one feel like a safer climb. And this architect included a basic necessity that almost all loft builders omit: Handrails on the both sides of the stairs! They're a small detail, but they increase safety quite a bit.
As for the rest of the space, it's exceptional! I would feel deprived without ample space to cook/bake and entertain. Not only is the kitchen/dining area large, but the floor plan is so open that the dining table could be reoriented and expanded to accommodate more guests. (I always evaluate living areas for their potential to host a large crowd like my family.)
The finishes in the space are also lovely. When I decorate, I don't typically gravitate toward so much white and light-colored wood--but it's a great choice in micro apartments. The light from the windows is bounced all around the open space, helping it feel airy rather than small and tight.
Well done! It's nice that the wood is light, not overbearing. The one thing that I really think could add to it, is making the bookshelve in the alcove fold or slide out to a small desk/study. Because that's the one function that isn't really present, and also seems so natural to put it there.
BEAUTIFUL!! I think the only changes that would make this ABSOLUTELY PERFECT is by utilizing the 2 larger panels next to the drawers in the living room w/ a washer/dryer combo & one side for a regular size fridge. Keep them as “doors” that with a simple & light press, they click open & the same for closing them, so they still appear as just walls. This way you don’t lose any additional space/storage from the walk in closet. Same exact concept on all the steps. Quick push & each step opens up like extra little “draws”from the direct front facing view as u walk up the stairs to the bedroom area. Can use those for shoes or just more storage space for whatever else u may need.
the cacoon's light and lightness is amazing. as someone who really loves plywood design (and knows it can be a little heavy sometimes), this is so pure and calm. the architects really got the japanese archtiecture concept in this one. congratulations

Light management is amazing, space is used very intelligently, window being seen from bed is awesome, bathroom has ample space and the custom built cabinet is really useful. The idea of micro living is really awesome in itself.

Privacy from what? The whole apartment is for that single person. So, if I live there alone and one day I want to be lazy and stay in bed, I would need no privacy. This dude removed the walls to gain space and bring light. But, in the same time the owner sleeps in a aluminium and plastic box. There is nothing showed about the bathroom, but there is a lot of wasted space for the kitchen, while the living is reduced to a weird sofa, a small cabinet a stool, an armchair and something which wants to be a coffee table. And everywhere is plywood. Sorry, but I doubt someone can actually live there permanently.

@@1zanglang A couple could fit in there perfectly well, and sometimes you don't wanna talk 24/7, hence the privacy of the bed. Bathroom was shown and has a great size, even a window. There is ample space to put more furniture if one does wish so-not having 2-3 tiny rooms allows for that flexibility. Good quality plywood can last quite long, if sealed properly
This is one of my favourite projects featured. It's a genuinely small space (unlike some!), so imaginatively and functionally designed and beautiful to look at.

This is the best micro home that I’ve seen (I’ve seen a lot!) and it’s in my hometown (big up London!). A walk-in wardrobe, fridge freezer, a large area for entertaining (or relaxing), tons of storage space and built-in bookcase/area for working, plus a King’s Size bed? All in 318 sqft? My idea of heaven. 🇬🇧

The natural palette and sort of minimalistic japanese boho look gives us the impression that it is much larger that what it actually is! Kudos to the designer, it is simply stunning!

What more could I want? The space doesn’t feel small at all and has the luxurious amenities of a multi-room apartment. It’s even comfortable for having a guest over and still offering privacy to all. The storage is so well done and thought out, I feel like the entire place offers more storage opportunities than my own apartment yet none of the storage put in subtract from the living space.

This has to be one of the best and most thought-through designs featured on the channel so far. Excellent work and great filming too. I don‘t quite feel the heavy use of plywood, always seems a bit „cheap“ to me. But maybe it was also chosen for environmental reasons?
Yeah I'm not a fan of the plywood either but I guess you could always just apply a darker wash to it.

@@isoutoforbit Same here. They look modern but they're not comfortable. Also, if they're built a little too tall you'll feel like you're constantly sliding forward (my sister has these chairs in her house). Then you'll be pushing against the floor to keep your rear on the seat. Lol.
Fantastic job in such a small space. It looks much bigger than it really is. A couple could live there very comfortably and not feel cramped. The small area available has been maximised so well.

IMO this is one of the most liveable apartments featured on Never Too Small. Great to see something in London too, as this is an area that suffers from poor quality living accommodation and high prices. (For those not familiar with UK prices, one bed flats in Belsize Park sell for around £700,000).

One of my favorites! I live in a 1 br unit in a VHCOL area in the US, it's about 900 sqft - not tiny but with 2 people working from home on different schedules we are starting to feel its constraints. I wonder how much it would cost to totally renovate our place into something like what we'd see on this channel...
If it were my place, I would of replaced the inset bookcase 3:02 with a desk and make the lights around the cabinets able to change to different colors because I'm a big fan of LED neon lights. I probably would also make the living room couch of type of futon that can go from a bed to a couch for guests that stay over. A dishwasher too would be added. They never said if it had one, but that is a must for me. Overall, this design is fantastic. Well done! ♥

It look bigger than the size. I love the design, feel warm and cozy, also very optimal in using space.
Never liked the idea of put bedroom on top with limited height.
But just be honest, this allows to have a *Easy Usable* the storage room under the bedroom. Brilliant & Perfect View+Bathroom has windows too- -. Home, cozy home in capital. :)
