The WORST or BEST Vegan Burger I've EVER Reviewed???

- Is the NEW Beyond Burger The WORST Burger I've ever reviewed or is it the best! This one surprised me and there are no middle ground here. Beyond really changed their recipe which to me had shocking results.
I went in with with expectations and those were really really wrong.
The new Beyond burger uses less ingredients, lower saturated fat ( by a lot ) and uses avocado oil instead of coconut oil. You don't see the little flakes anymore, but does that matter?
I needed to find out!

4:08 There is mold on the left bun brother! Great video, thank you for the comparison.
yikes
@@indiging8330 😮
gotta love flavor spots.
Omg lol! Good catch! I usually catch things like this 😂
Free antibiotics in the making
I put Beyond burger into my vegan chili and the carnists can never tell it's plants. I also mix 1/2 pounds of Beyond with a can of mixed vegetables and mash it into a veggie burger! It's a win-win for the animals too.
❤❤
They can tell..
to me if you are making chili you can easily get away with cheaper options like gardein crumbles or even tvp
if you grind most meats and then throw it in a soup, then yes, you cannot tell. because its literally just clumped spongey protein.
Are you falsely stating it's meat chili and they can't tell or you're just assuming because nobody says anything?
"the ingredients they can see" is so accurate! From antibiotics, hormones, feed additives, while the steer is alive to the sterilants to colors added to the final pink flesh goo for sale, the beef the average person gets in the grocery store has an ingredient list a mile long that isn't required to be on the packaging. The plant based alternative is more honest about what goes into it.
Unless you're buying fake steak with meat glue you won't pink goo that was debunked a while ago... also you forgot to add heifer next to steer forgetting women cows? Also if you look at the packaging or do research you will be able to find out what is used on the cattle if you care. Or you can act smugg eat highly over processed vegetables, which are those pesticides and growing and harvesting conditions listed? Do you think those corps are grown in human and environmentally friendly ways? Nope. Just slap a green leaf on the package and boom your healthy and eco freindly.
Eat what you want but come on you are acting like the dollar steak from dollar tree is a bar for you beef you buy at the store.
I'm willing to give it a try. I actually hated Beyond products until I tried their steak tips, and THAT stuff should win awards, it's so dang tasty. The popcorn chicken is exceptional too. Because I love the steak tips and chikn so much, I'm willing to give the new burgers another shot.
We got a winner!! Love the "cheers" between bites lol
We started doing out side of the videos now hahaha we film too much haha
@@SauceStache that is the most adorable thing ive ever heard
I was always a bigger fan of Impossible than Beyond but it’s good to know Beyond is taking feedback seriously and improving.
Concentrated pea protein etc, is definitely easier to digest than concentrated soy protein. That's why I never went with the Impossible Burgers. Concentrated, non cultured/fermented soy protein bothers my body/system. I can do moderate amounts of tofu and especially tempeh though (and no problem at all with miso except I don't like to eat that much sodium, so it's only ever used as a flavoring adjunct).
I love all the Beyond products. Its not for common meals, but its a hell of a treat, especially the beyond sausage that is a 10/10 product. Better than meat sausages in my opinion.
I love their brats but we only eat them like every two weeks our kids would eat all the time
The Hot Italian is the best! Yum! 🔥
The meatballs are the best.
I actually just tried the new beyond burger they had it at sprouts, definitely made me a beyond fan again and the smell is gone when cooking!
OMG, that threw me off so much last time I tried it. Thought it was spoiled. 🤣
Texture was pretty good though.
@Lifter4life217/// exactly, I'm a fan of Beyond Meat, the smell is gone after cooking.
There is also a new Beyond Burger with less salt on the market. I mix my Beyond Ground with
cooked smashed chickpeas, it's really good...makes the burger less fatty and more economical.
Nothing like a heavily processed chemical smell to trick morally superior vegans into thinking they are not eating plants...
Can't wait to try these. Like you, I had stopped buying the Beyond burgers because I didn't love the flavor and they jacked up the price (or at least I couldn't get them on sale anymore).
I don't care if they taste like meat, as long as they taste good.
i get why people talk about how healthy/unhealthy vegan burgers are.
As a vegan, my opinion ion this debate is s a reference to a quote i saw once: "NO ONE EATS A BURGER TO BE HEALTHY"
I'm literally cooking up (old) beyond burgers right now. Love them!
I'm going to miss my stash of the old when they're gone. 😕
me too!! i love their burgers, the taste is my favourite
So I am one of those people who actually likes the unique Beyond flavor. Am looking forward to trying the new one.
I'm with you. I'm so sad it's probably gone forever.
My bf and I also love the old Beyond flavor! The new one is close, but not the same. It's also not as juicy, despite it saying it is. Nope. It's because it doesn't have the little white coconut oil balls anymore. 😕 I bought all of the old ones I could find. I'll be upset when they run out.
Love this, super super informative as always
How interesting. Out of beyond and impossible, I stronger prefer beyond. I won’t even eat impossible. I’ve never felt like beyond is like cat food but it does have its own unique scent when cooking or burping afterwards. With this new avocado oil beyond burger I had an awful time. As someone with cats, the new one smelled like cat food when cooking and had a worse chew. The cat food scent was absolutely overwhelming with the newer avocado one. I do make all my burgers as smash burgers if that changes things. Also, I once took that supertaster test and I’m a supertaster, so maybe that’s affecting things?
Factually, beef is not just beef when you think about what happens at a factory farm. So more ingredients should be listed
I agree, they inject those poor animals with antibiotics, hormones and who knows what other stuff they put in their bodies.
The meme shown was deer, not beef. Deer generally isn't factory farmed but hunted. Granted there are still cons... ethics of killing animals, chronic waste disease is effecting deer and even diets (if a wild deer eats lots of hemlock, it can taste very bad.)
Factually, not everyone eats beef processed by mega murder factories.
Some more evolved people source beef processed more ethically from local farmers.
Sometimes we lowly meat eaters actually have the higher moral ground than supposed god status morally perfect vegans...
Beyond hot italian sausage is my favorite "mock meat." I'm excited to try the new version!
Appreciate the review!
I also love their hot Italian sausage! The first time I tried it, it had been at least 30 years since I'd had any kind of Italian sausage, and it was so delicious I almost burst into tears.
Personally I've always loved the taste and smell of Beyond Burgers. Am intrigued to try the new one though. I hope we can still buy the OG burgers
The "beyond" taste and smell are gone! Much much more mild. Im assuming once the new beyond burger is in full circulation the old will be phased out just like the last generations. This is the 4th version.
@@SauceStache I hope I like it more then, haha, or I might be a bit sad
Please update us with your thoughts. I am curious to hear from someone who liked the old kind, like I did.
@@BeccaB529 If I remember, I will :D
I love the first one they released, that beyond flavour was incredible to me, as a meat eater, I preferred it to meat. Then they changed it and I was so sad
At 4:07 was the bun on the left a little modly? lol looks like there is a small blue-ish circle on the bun?
Lol, I noticed that too 😉
Noticed that right away too
😂
OMG... yeah that does look like. These were brand new buns bought that day. I feel like I would have noticed it so Im wondering if it could have been something else.
I've noticed that too 😂😂😂
I love beyound burger patties.. i made 2 burgers with them once. SOOOO GOOD!
Thanks for all you do, it is appreciated!
I don't like the new one! It's too dry (I miss the little white coconut oil balls) and although it's close in taste, I prefer the taste of the old one. 😐 I went to many stores and bought all of the old burgers I could find. My freezers are more packed now and I will be upset when I run out!
They recently changed their Hot Italian sausages too and I was very nervous because the last time they changed them they were awful and ended up going back to the original thank goodness, but this time they are still delicious although they also don't expel as much of the amazingly flavored oil.
I like the old Beyond, not sure if I can have the new one as I have an avocado allergy. 😞
An argument I've had with my brother re: are plant-based burgers being bad for you is that NO burger is good for you! It's a treat, something you'd have only sometimes. He was adamant that a plant-based burger is worse than animal ones, but in the end no one is eating any burger thinking "this is a health food". When I ate meat I didn't eat burgers every day, just every now and then. I'm vegetarian now and still only have a burger (whether it's Beyond, Impossible, or homemade) infrequently. Burgers are treat foods!
Bro the way you started this channel to how you are today in terms of health and wellness is ridiculous! Kudos. You are rocking it!
4:07 oh noooooo
The mould 😢
Ugh I’m so annoyed by this!!! Brand new buns, didn’t notice it at all.
I’m just hoping it was the half I got so I didn’t feed my wife that! We’re both fine either way :/
@@SauceStache glad you're both fine! I literally just had the same thing happen to me recently.
I prefer Impossible over Beyond . Either is heavily processed but it's not meant for everyday use in my opinion. I haven't liked Beyond because of the back taste . Maybe I'll try the new version. My taste testing is done by taco meat seasonings.
100% with you! To me Impossible is closest to the real thing.
Have you tried the new beyond yet? I felt the same way prior to this test?
The blood stuff they use for impossible isnt even food safe, its got some kind of "assumed safe" thing and has a large list of side effects like on reproductive harm.
Gosh Impossible just rocks. I love the Impossible Sausage and use it when cooking for others to great effect
Unfortunately, I live in deep southeast Texas. INew Beyond hasn't found it's way here yet.
I will try it. I didn’t know too much about this burger I usually pass it by. But next time I will pick it up. You convinced me, now I am looking forward to it. Thanks 😊
I haven’t tried the new beyond burger, but I always preferred the old beyond burger over impossible burger.
I actually really liked the unique taste.
Thanks for sharing an honest review of the "new version" of Beyond Meat's burgers and mince... 😏😏😏😏😏Definitely looking forward to trying it out myself, I didn't find much issues with the "original", but then again I have only been a gluten free vegan for 2 years, but get excited whenever I see new products hit the shelves especially the gluten free ones...😊😊😊😊 sorry for the 'late' comment.
My twin brother let me know that you and Monica did a review on it, but I didn't get around to watching it until a few minutes ago.... Anyway, I hope you, Monica, and of course Walker have a safe healthy splendid Sunday afternoon...bon appetit!
Flesh is heavily processed and has a ton of added harmful ingredients, wish you had pointed that out.
Whether old or new, this video made me hungry for a BEYOND BURGER. Heading to the fridge. Cheers 🎉
hahaha make sure you try the new! would love to know what you think
I like your nuanced approach to testing this.
We still have the "old" version in Europe at moment (at least from what I'm aware), so I hope to try the new one eventually
I love your intro! Please make more intros like this one!
I really hated that "beyond taste" too! Glad to know that I should try the new version. Thank you for testing for us!
I'm pretty sure the people think that animal beef is just one ingredient because it's just labeled as such have interesting minds.
beyond is the best do you put oil in the pan when you cook it or just cook it up?
Hoping to try this soon. Hope it's not too dry. The juiciness was what I really liked about the old one.
I was fine with the old Beyond ground. New one smelled awful but tasted fine. Then half of the night I tossed and turned with a disgusting cat food aftertaste in my mouth. So disappointed. I guess it will help me eat healthier since I will never touch that stuff again unless they change their recipe again.
Glad to see someone else agree with me about the new one’s scent and aftertaste 😭
So for me, I love the (old) Beyond Burger taste. You tested the ground instead of the burger. The burger and the ground do not taste the same but I agree that the "old" Beyond ground does have an odd taste. I have still used it though. I have yet to try any of the "new" Beyond burgers or ground. I'd be interested to see if it impacts the actual burger flavor as well. (I'm apparently blend when it comes to cooking plant based ground because I do not season my burgers HAHA)
What about making meatballs with both of them and seeing which one is better?
Thanks for the comparison ❤
Aw man I'd love to try the new one but I'm allergic to avocado. :( What a bummer.
Would be keen to try this if it actually makes its way to my country.
1. I don't care if a vegan Burger is healthy. It doesn't have to. I eat responsible - so not every day a burger. And because of that, it can be as unhealthy as a meat burger. The only thing that matters is the taste and feel.
2. Normal meat has everything in it, the animal ate or got injected with. Hormones, antibiotics, and what else.
3. What is the problem with 10-20 ingredients (I eat Indian food and it has about the same amount - if you count in the spices) when they are all "natural". Even some "artificlal" are fine. They are just artificially extracted from other things. And with fake meat, it mostly due to different sorts of proteins.
4. Ofc, I'm not opposed to making it healthier. If the taste doesn't decline with it.
5. Your new? grill is amazing. Gotta get me one of those.
6. Thank you both for testing this and sharing it with us!
As a 32-year vegetarian, I'm p _ _ sed that Beyond changed the formula. I may eventually try it, but the wheat and pea protein formula, which included coconut oil, tasted just like a burger off the backyard grill. In my humble opinion, the "trick" to enjoying almost any vegan product is to think "less", not "more". That is, don't make a vegan burger into a quarter pounder. Best to make vegan burgers "flat and wide", perhaps slightly thicker than a regular mcdonald's burger....and turn them in the skillet every two minutes for a total of eight minutes. Add ketchup and pickles....just like a burger from the grill and how they were made in diners during the '50s & '60s.
The thing about plant based burger sodium is that vegan meals are usually so low in sodium to begin with so eating this as a treat isn't bad in and of itself.
That all depends on if the vegan meals are highly processed or not. Yeah just straight vegetables, legumes, grains, fruits are pretty low in sodium.
But most of the processed vegan foods range from a moderate to high sodium.
this just is not true
uhh what?
You usually don't eat burgers without a side of fries
@@frankchen4229 no what i mean is that a majority of most vegans' meals are tofu, tempeh, or seitan based as a protein option. We often don't eat impossible for every lunch/dinner
@@Luis-vx1tx Yea but who puts these mock meats with these? The use of beyond/impossible is more so along with a bunch of other junk; no one dares to pollute a health-based weekday lunch with it
For those who have had issues with making patties or balls out of Beyond ground, I find that happens if it's frozen and thawed first. I've never had issues as long as the Beyond Ground was kept fresh.
I have tue new version in my freezer and now I'm excited... I liked the old beyond but I wasn't digging the canola oil plus certain things I cooked with the old beyond formulation just didn't work well in recipes cuz all I could taste was the beyond flavor... But I am going to say I have cut back on mock meat and when I did my cholesterol went down... But I also will sat that beef isn't just beef first of it is just wrong to kill an animal but also they are a living being with natural hormones and not to mention whatever the cows are being fed the human is also consuming which is usually so bad for you... Even with canola in the mix I still would recommend pla plant based alternative...
Will have to try! Love firmer and no coconut oil flavour. Texture sounds better. Hated how old beyond and other plant based burgers were so soft and even worse if they cooled.
I also got sick of the burgers, especially the aftertaste. Good to know it's changed. How was the aftertaste, by the way?
Can someone tell me what the 'beyound taste' is ? I've never had it before so i don't know what they mean
What makes pea protein “overly” processed?
So glad to hear that Beyond is less... beyond-tasting :D Awesome!
Thanks for the A-B testing and the review!
My kids do not like Beyond Meat’s flavor, they'll be happy that it’s better.
Now hopefully Beyond Meat will come back to Costco, oh and Impossible burgers and “chicken” nuggets, they've been out of stock at Costco for weeks!
Interesting. I've seen the new one get some hate online but based on this I think I'll actually give it a try. Not that I eat them super often (TVP burgers for the win!), I think I just trust your taste buds more than randos online.
Nice thing about plant burgers is you never get those suprise chunks of bone.
is that a bbq plate for an induction oven?
I have not seen the new ones here yet but we are in Ecuador
I love the beyond taste. It had a fresh off the grill taste that I miss so much 😭
I actually LOVE the "old" Beyond Burger. I don't know what people are talking about when they say it has a bad taste. This new burger is like when Wendy's changed their fries to their current ones and I just stopped eating at Wendy's.
I don't get it either, our family all love Beyond burgers, never noticed a strange taste at all.
I agree! I loved the old ones better too! 😩 My bf and I absolutely LOVE the taste of the old one, we didn't think it tasted weird. The one they had a long time ago wasn't as good, but the last one was delicious! I bought all of those old ones that I could find before they switched to the new one. It's a good thing I have multiple freezers!
We tried these and I really liked them 👍👍👍
Unfortunately I am allergic to avocados so the new Beyond is not available for me. I wish they would have used a different oil. I will have to stick to Impossible.
I'm not sure if I'm allergic myself, but I can't have avocado either. 😭 My body does not like avocado at all!
It's frustrating looking for plant-based food and there's always avocado staring you in the face.
I always liked the flavor of Beyond. These new ones are great.
You just made my day! I saw another video that trashed the new Beyond burger for flavor. I can't wait to try it!
Same, I was actually expecting it to be pretty horrible. I thought for sure I was going to hate it but then I was more than suprised. Im glad I compared the two back to back because it was really wild to taste and smell the difference!!
@@SauceStache Beyond and Impossible were gaining in popularity and distribution until the pandemic and the sudden rise of inflation reversed the trend. I hope this will help them return and eventually overtake animal based meat!
Honestly, people put way too much stock in whether other people like things or not. Everyone should just try things themselves and figure out whether they personally like something or not. I've heard people say they weren't going to try a product or watch a particular movie only because someone else said it was bad and I just find that so stupid. Everyone has different tastes.
@@johnnyli4702 I agree. You never know if you will like something until you try it yourself.
It’s surprising to me that people thought the old one was like cat food but not this new one. I have cats and have never eaten something that reminded me of cat food more than the new version of beyond meat. The old was wasn’t even close to cat food personally
Honestly I prefer black bean burgers when I’m wanting meatless, otherwise I’ll just eat ground beef, pea protein makes any vegan processed meat taste weird to me.
I never really liked the taste of beef. I love beyond burgers though! I'm still excited to try the new one. I did like turkey burgers.
This always happened to me, for whatever the reason the cooking instructions are for gas stoves and the same instructions will always burn the plant based ones
Thanks for this!! It’s that yuck aftertaste I cannot do:(
The aftertaste is gone
I've become used to the taste of Beyond and prefer it to Impossible. The processed label doesn't concern me at all. It's healthier than eating cows. I used to add a ton of salt to my ground beef so the salt content is a wash. It just comes preseasoned.
I loved the beyond taste. Dangit
Is there much umami flavor?
Slightly, more like a turkey burger
4:07 I hope that wasn't mold on your burger bun over on the left 😬
Not “processed”…partially precooked according to a recipe of soy oil and various plant extracts and salt.
More guest appearances from Walker, please!
There is nothing wrong with canola oil. Geez.
Yea, I think they could have made it cheaper using canola oil but unfortunately there is now a lot of fear mongering over Canola oil. It's a tough choice to make. Either risk losing customers who fear monger over Canola or lose customers over the price.
I think the problem was the saturated fat. Thats what they were trying to change. No fear mongering here.
Its simple as that.
Canola is high omega 6 fatty acid, gmo canola even worse.
I'm gonna have to try the new Beyond because the truth is that I like beef, Impossible, Beyond and Morningstar Farms...so if you run the numbers and carry the threes, statistically I'm probably gonna like this. Maybe I just really like burgers.🤷♂
Antibiotics and hormones are not ingredients right?
Let me know when they have an organic version .
2:32 agree with everything except the no animals were harmed part ,it’s just different animals that are harmed mostly smaller but still animals
it says 4 minutes from frozen on the impossible patties.
I love beyond meat plant based foods are delicious ❤
I always thought the taste of the Beyond burger was fine. It’s the aftermath though….it just shreds my stomach. It’s the pea protein. Same thing happens with Field Roast Stadium dogs, they use pea protein too. Just doesn’t agree with me even though they taste great.
You mentioned it reminded you of a turkey burger - do you think it might lend itself to replacing ground pork?
Seasoned correctly, I could totally see that
I just wanted to know how they taste. The rest isn’t a problem for me but the smell has always been off putting. They do NOT taste like meat but I like to occasionally skip meat
You should give these new ones a try, the taste and smell are dramatically different.
Personally - I care more about health outcomes vs whether or not a food is 'ultra-processed'... If you look at the SWAP meat trial - they found that plant based options have better health outcomes, compared to their meat based alternatives.
Cheese 🧀 butter 🧈 😋 😍
Scrambled eggs ❤❤❤❤
This is not Beyond's best burger. FYI, Beyond's best burger is the Beyond Stack Burger now available at WholeFoods. You'll see.
I liked the beyond burger the first time I tried it but I went off it very quickly and now I can't eat it at all, makes me feel sick.
The ones that Bk and mcd use are better.
I’m literally eating a beyond burger as I watch this review
It doesn’t smell as bad, but it taste very similar. Slightly better I guess.
Haven't been here for a while, when did Saucey lose a bunch of libras? 🤔
I love the “old” beyond. Hopefully I like the new ones.
Before I even watch the video, I have to say, I loved the OG beyond burger!! Loved that distinctive taste. But I think it's probably going away for good. Which makes me sad, but such is life, I guess.
I actually love the taste of the original recipe I think they're better BBQ'd. Plus when comparing beef to beyond beef, instead of being afraid of a few ingredients, you have to looks at the health outcomes...
Yeah mhm yeah mhm 😅 You sound just like me I love it
I hated that beyond after taste but these look promising And it’s keto with only 3 net carbs which is less than impossible also. I which they’d use something other than starch or rice Protein to maybe bring carb count down
I enjoyed your video however when you referenced the new beyond burger’s nutrition compared to the 80/20 burger you actually gave the old beyond burgers nutrition facts 2:15 which understates the improvements made
For real. I thought I was taking crazy pills when I read 21g on the package, and 20g in the nutrition facts he referenced.
I'm really disappointed in the new version :\ I loved the older recipe and ate it literally every night in my dinner. The new version has a weird taste to it that's way worse, in my opinion, to the "beyond" taste. Sigh.
if given the choice, i would still choose Impossible
The og og beyond was the best. I was sad when they “improved “ it which decreased the flavour
I'm surprised you skipped over the transfat comparison, and the unsaturated fats. I'm certainly no expert, but I'm pretty sure transfats are much worse than saturated fats and the unsaturated fats are better for you. That's my novice understanding at least.
