But you can bet your ass I'm grabbing this podcast by the balls and not letting go! Glad I was able to catch the first one of these on my feed!
I just came from Wolf's favorite things video so I get to hear the entire script of that video all over again immediately! If it sounds like I'm laughing at you, I absolutely am!
Tears of the kingdom expanded what I thought videogames could do, and Baldurs Gate 3 still feels like black magic to me, but my GOTY was Armored Core by a good distance: everything in its presentation is top notch, the story is compelling af and truly deserves those three runs to get all endings and missions. As for the experiencie itself... thats where the gold is: I'm quite arcade oriented so I mostly skipped all the customization parts, made myself a balanced/fast build with a sword, a rifle and missiles and went for it. The first run FELT like a seinen manga, with a lot of hardships and grim struggle as I learned my ways on how to move and fight. The NG+ was a shonen power fantasy as I made my wau thru hords of enemies. I complted it in one seating, about 6 hours long, and died only a few times in the final stages. The NG++ felt challenging, specially on one of the newly unlocked missions, but the final stretch delivered in wrapping up the experience with a lovely ending as well as one particular stage where certain condition one dreams about the whole game thru finally take place. The whole thing took me about 40 hours in total, which is a huge win for me, stroke a truly perfect duration. Gorgeous game, amazing gamefeel, it's already one of my favourite games ever, and one very dear to me.
I feel wolf on that game guide so hard. My favorite game last year was Tunic, and its game guide is so lovingly made, its insane and I'd buy a real one in a heartbeat.
I had a really lovely time watching this. I have had a very stressful period of pulling multiple all nighters with low health for uni. Listening to two people passionately discussing and hyping up art they love with such great rapport is genuinely great. The concept of talking about experiences that truly uplifted/inspired you throughout the year and your bonding over it is honestly a beautiful thing, thanks for sharing it. I hope you do something similar to this next year and I very much look forward to seeing how the "media homework" progresses.
