My first playthrough of Dokapon was with my two best buddies in college. I spent several turns going through a dungeon and got a special weapon perfect for my class, but I was forced to land on a blank space on the last turn of my friend's darkling run and, with the most vile grin on his face, he crossed half the world to kill me and destroy my weapon. That was the end of the session that night, I was FUMING. It took us the entire summer to finish the game, and ill never forget the experience, specifically my "friend's" grin that still shows up in my nightmares.
@@Shadowlily1112 oh yeah, friends for life even though he moved several states away for a job. It's just that devilish grin that I didn't think possible of him. I saw a part of his soul that none of us thought existed haha
Y'know, we keep saying John is the villain of this podcast, but it sure is weird how the bottom half of the "Pantheon of Greatness" is all stuff WOOLIE recommended to him.
Tbf "missing a fighting game tournament" was entirely John's own fault and "competing in a fighting game tournament" probably would've ended up higher on the list
Woolie's favorite thing is not fighting games necessarily. That is just the best way he's able to interact with it in a video game. His favorite thing is competition. This podcast is a competition. For what? I got no idea.
Woolie sure is great at dishing it out tho you gotta admit. He's been doing that so well. Got lots of good hits in. I'm sure he has no problem taking it and wouldn't try a weak combo breaker to wriggle out of it.
Best ending to date! Woolie, I wanted to have your back after "A Combo Breaker? HERE?", truly a beautiful moment. But to hear you say "pretty much the first episode", that's no Combo Breaker. Clever play, not fully executed though... And John, you both can be the villains! One does not exclude the other. Appreciate the work from you two so much! Thank you for another fantastic episode!
Honestly, omikron looked absolutely like a miserable piece of trash fire. Nothing is worse than confusing level layouts coupled with awkward controls, extremely outdated and _bad_ RPG mechanics and inventory systems from that era of transitioning to 3D, and then you have David Cage's creepy... everything on top of it. At least Ascension is in that kind of "it's so bad it's funny", and you can be kind of fascinated by how this thing even exists or what it was ever meant to accomplish. And best of all is you don't even have to play it, you just have to watch it.
All John is doing is sharing the suffering he already inflicted on himself and Woolie is so scared of it he tried to bluff a combo breaker! Maybe someone needs to get dragged off his high horse.
Counter point: John counter broke Inscryption, but he did not finish the game. Hell he himself said that: “Oh I thought I experienced all the game had, but I am actually shocked at Ch 3’s twists, I should’ve finished it”
@@vcom741 Rebuttal: Playing the game, or experiencing the media up to a certain degree, is all that is ever asked of the other when Recommend or Die happens. Finishing the game/media has never been the criteria, unless the person chooses to willingly do so like with Fear and Hunger or Omikron (of which was proven Woolie ALSO didn't play himself with the controller in his hands, so this isn't the first time he's tried to steal the pie from John). And even if you disagree with that? He played the game. He actually went out and experienced the media. He did not look up a Let's Play, and he most certainly did more than dip his toes in the water. Woolie watched a single episode of John's videos and didn't even know where to find the series to watch it. This moment is going to be held as example of fraudulent usage of Combo Breaker for the rest of the podcast, and rightfully so.
@@yhposolihP I VERY strongly disagree with Omikron still being on the table. By that logic, did game grumps never experience any of the games they played whenever they passed the controller? Woolie played it with 2 other guys in the room with him. He experienced the game, he is clear. I do partially agree with John being allowed to give Woolie Ascension…but specifically only after he specified: “Go and finish it”. I would argue the Combo Breaker holds, but the extended mission of: “Experiencing all of Ascension” is a valid reply.
@@vcom741 So here's where I might not be on board with your take on Omikron not being on the table, but you might need to help me out here, because I could completely be misremembering. You asked if Game Grumps wouldn't have experienced the games they played whenever they passed the controller, and of course that answer to that is "of course they would have. They played the games they played, even if they split them up between whoever was in the room." John's reasoning for Omikron being on the table? "Your hands were never on that controller, were they, Woolie?" Going by the qualifier you just put up about the controller being passed, and assuming the statement John said is true, that would 100% mean, by your own train of logic, that Omikron is on the table. No hand on the controller? Didn't play it. I could even go one step further and argue that because he never touched a controller, Woolie was watching a Let's Play. In person, yeah, but he was there watching it. BUT. BUT BUT BUT. BIG, BIG BUT. It's been YEARS since I've seen that playthrough, and I don't think I need to tell you how much of a freaking fever dream that entire series is. All I remember is Woolie being in the room, using a guide to help them through the worst, most ugly parts of the game (Woolie's double-speak of saying that one of them was "in charge of traversal" leans to that). But there's a lot of that game, and so, so much of it doesn't make sense. So I want to ask you, in completely good faith: If I were to go back and watch that series, would there be significant, notable portions of it where Woolie has his hands on the controller playing the game (meaning more than someone just getting frustrated, handing over the controller, and going "HERE, YOU TRY IT, THEN.")? Or was this mostly Matt and Pat? Quick edit about Ascension: Frankly, if Woolie hadn't have admitted to experiencing it being a Let's Play, I'd agree with you. Even if it's just one episode... let's face it, if you've seen an hour of Ascension, you've seen all of it. One of the established rules is "No Let's Plays", though, so that's pretty open and shut in my opinion.
I can’t believe Woolie sat at the end of that hallway like Hisoka telling John he can’t play dokapon with the big boys till he can see the nen. Must have been watching those clips from John’s adventure hitting a mad glowing ‘shwing’ as the fruit was ripening before his eyes
This show is such an event for me each month I'm half expecting one episode to have John in a sweater, then at R.O.D. he takes it off to reveal he's been in a suit.
his first mistake was assuming there even were a hero and a villain in this podcast; there is a sadist and a masochist beating each other up with media, and unfortunately for him, Woolie is the latter (and full disclaimer before anyone starts replying weird stuff, no I don't mean that way, I just mean Woolie thrives off of cringe)
@@FaelumbreProjectI mean he is a prowrestling guy. If there's a heel, there's gotta be a face. And there's no denying that John is a heel. He is just of delusional kind who think he's not
in regards to john being baffled that he's the villain of this podcast despite only recommending good things and being met with the answer that he's the villain cause he's john, obviously the more nuanced answer is he threatens and he villain monologues. however i will give john this woolie is also a villain, it's just that john is a super villain. so to bring it up to a hunter x hunter comparison it's like john is hisoka while woolie is tonpa. but as has become evident as of last month's podcast and this month's podcast john has unkowingly performed a nen initiation in more ways than just showing woolie nen in hunter x hunter, he has awakened the seed of super villainy inside of woolie aswell. there are no more heroes it's kill or be killed
Also notable is that Woolie, instead of doing multiple runs to try out different characters/tactics/routes and figure things out, essentially brute forced it on what i believe was only his second attempt. I believe the comment was "Jon played F&H like Griffith, Woolie played it like Guts."
I’m only part of the way in and I can truly say I would protect Philippe with my life. I hope he’s living his best existence. Edit: a valiant battle, almost a worthy foe to Kathy. You are a noble warrior indeed, Hobo Crawfish!
One more big comment so I can gush about the morning dew monologue: Appreciate the symbolic gravity of what Griffith is saying here. How closely tied his character is with the nature of dreams and desires. The story is essentially telling us that his true self, the innocent child, is a state he wants to return to above all else. To embrace the familiar warmth of Guts and Casca through the moonlight boy. But it's too late. He failed to recognize or admit to himself what they meant to him at the Eclipse and is now forever barred from achieving his real dream. It's a mirage. A fleeting sensation felt vicariously instead of with his own flesh and blood. He has the kingdom he sought and all it's brought him is profound loneliness. Itself barely felt before giving way to nothing. A final tear. A frozen heart. It's just...so fucking tragic and humanizing for such a monstrous character. Miura was iconic and beautiful until the very end. Going from that to Isidro gassing up Serpico because he jumped over a railing is partially why I got fed up with Sandworms of Berk.
Puck is the absolute MVP for me. He carried me through the Black Swordsman and Lost Children arcs where I almost put the series down for good. I never would have gotten into or out of Golden Age without him.

"I AM NOT THE VILLAIN" John exclaimed almost frothing at the mouth. He stared frenzied at his 'so called' friend as he wipes the saliva away from his lips like a hungry beast.
I grew up consuming (and still do) a lot of what I guess could be precieved as negative media. Stuff with dark tones or a lot of self deprecation. Lots of punk rock and the like. As I grow older I really appreciate Puck more and more. Its easy to get bogged down in a certain mindset if thats all thats presented to you or you expose yourself to. We need a reminder that not everything is so bleak and Puck is the embodiment of that. Fucking love that little bug.
Having Woolie reference C- and C+ scaling is really wild cause I've been rewatching the Dark Souls LP while going through it myself and that playthough is 7 years old and it still makes Woolie upset lmao.
Philippe ignores movie trailers so that he might experience them purely. Yet he will read articles on 400 different games before picking 1 to play. What a guy!
I fucking love this podcast. Where else can you see a man scream a villain monologue about how he isn’t the villain in this story while giving a heinous recommendation to a friend? Never change.
What a cute little story that John decided to share with the world at the start, it was a very interesting experience that he just on the spot decided to share simply because it was such a unique case and no other reason at all... ... *Foreshadowing is a literary devi-*
John's story in the beginning reminds me of my mom. She hardly played any games when I was growing up, maybe some Tetris or that Lucky Luke platformer for PS1. Then she remarried and after a while she started telling me about how she loves Metal Gear Solid. I didn't know what to say! I tried to show her so many games in the past and she wasn't interested and now she suddenly checks out them by herself. She also recently discovered Assassin's Creed. That was the end of the session that night, I was FUMING. It took us the entire summer to finish the game, and ill never forget the experience, specifically my "friend's" grin that still shows up in my nightmares.
Are you still friends?
@@Shadowlily1112 oh yeah, friends for life even though he moved several states away for a job. It's just that devilish grin that I didn't think possible of him. I saw a part of his soul that none of us thought existed haha
Start of the podcast: should we box, or should we roll?
Half a year later: FUCK IT WE DOKAPON
Y'know, we keep saying John is the villain of this podcast, but it sure is weird how the bottom half of the "Pantheon of Greatness" is all stuff WOOLIE recommended to him.
Tbf "missing a fighting game tournament" was entirely John's own fault and "competing in a fighting game tournament" probably would've ended up higher on the list
Woolie's favorite thing is not fighting games necessarily. That is just the best way he's able to interact with it in a video game. His favorite thing is competition. This podcast is a competition. For what? I got no idea.
@@Aikaosu maybe Woolie will figure it out, someday
Who is saying John is the heel here? Literally no one and people that are fucking wrong. Woolie might be the Anti Christ incarnate.
Woolie sure is great at dishing it out tho you gotta admit. He's been doing that so well. Got lots of good hits in.
I'm sure he has no problem taking it and wouldn't try a weak combo breaker to wriggle out of it.
John's "I DIDN'T HEAR NO BELL" fight with Kathy is so hype
I love how this podcast is just woolie slowly turning john into Griffith
Best ending to date! Woolie, I wanted to have your back after "A Combo Breaker? HERE?", truly a beautiful moment.
But to hear you say "pretty much the first episode", that's no Combo Breaker. Clever play, not fully executed though...
And John, you both can be the villains! One does not exclude the other.
Appreciate the work from you two so much! Thank you for another fantastic episode!
The postcredits scene hit so, so goddamn hard
John: I am NOT the villain of this podcast I am just misrepresented!
Also John: Watch Silent Hill Ascension!!
In his defense, he spared Woolie for Omikron and had just been put through Dokapon
Nah I'm with SEW on this one, one bad recommendation is maybe fair play but woolie pushed that button TWICE and deserves to get punched back.
@@DoctorHam It's called a receipt in the business, brotherrrrrrr
The sound of cops in the back as Dokapon Kingdom is mentioned. Perfect 👌.
They're just arriving ahead of time for the inevitable attempted murders wherever the game appears.
As this video was posted, The Final Gamer is currently fighting John in another stream of Dokapon Kingdom
Johns breakdown at the recommend ir die segment is divine, ace attorney killer level shit as he declares that he isnt the bad guy
How dare Woolie try to issue a bullshit combo breaker against John. Truly, Woolie is the villain of versus wolves lol
Yeaaa he doesnt know what a combo breaker is apparently
They played the games they played, even if they split them up between whoever was in the room."
John's reasoning for Omikron being on the table? "Your hands were never on that controller, were they, Woolie?"
Going by the qualifier you just put up about the controller being passed, and assuming the statement John said is true, that would 100% mean, by your own train of logic, that Omikron is on the table.
So I want to ask you, in completely good faith:
If I were to go back and watch that series, would there be significant, notable portions of it where Woolie has his hands on the controller playing the game (meaning more than someone just getting frustrated, handing over the controller, and going "HERE, YOU TRY IT, THEN.")? Or was this mostly Matt and Pat?
Quick edit about Ascension: Frankly, if Woolie hadn't have admitted to experiencing it being a Let's Play, I'd agree with you. Even if it's just one episode... let's face it, if you've seen an hour of Ascension, you've seen all of it. One of the established rules is "No Let's Plays", though, so that's pretty open and shut in my opinion.
WOOLIE THOUGHT THAT FRAUD ASS COMBO BREAKER 1 EPISDOE WAS GONNA FLY
Every single episode of this podcast feels like John's villain origin story
2:29:21 the synced up "THIS IS INSANE" is hilarious
After hearing John’s recommendation, I can completely understand the support for Kathy, the true hero.
Every new episode of Versus Crawfish is a treat.
Remember that Homecoming was the game that broke Matt to a point Pat had to do an almost solo rest of the playthrough.
Matt was always weak of spirit.
@@TyrantWesker
And bereft of axe
I can’t believe Woolie sat at the end of that hallway like Hisoka telling John he can’t play dokapon with the big boys till he can see the nen. Must have been watching those clips from John’s adventure hitting a mad glowing ‘shwing’ as the fruit was ripening before his eyes
Guys I fear I shall develop a serious heart condition listening to these fellow nerds attempt to tear eachother to shreds.
I'm so excited to hear John regale Woolie with the Ballad of Kathy, his mortal enemy.
Its crazy that John FINALLY recommended Woolie to play Scrimblo Bimblo after all this time.
Woolie not knowing about the Idea of Evil chapter blew me away. holy shit
This show is such an event for me each month
I'm half expecting one episode to have John in a sweater, then at R.O.D. he takes it off to reveal he's been in a suit.
One of these days one of them is showing up to record the podcast in his birthday suit and we're all just gonna have to be ok with that
3:13:50 GOD I lost when Woolie had to fess up to watching it on John's STREAM VOD lmao go enjoy the Merging Ceremony!
Yeaa why would one episode be enough? Also cant you make your own choices?
John spent 10 full minutes villain monologuing his way to a combo breaker lmfao
only for John's combo to re-form like the T-1000
his first mistake was assuming there even were a hero and a villain in this podcast; there is a sadist and a masochist beating each other up with media, and unfortunately for him, Woolie is the latter
(and full disclaimer before anyone starts replying weird stuff, no I don't mean that way, I just mean Woolie thrives off of cringe)
@@FaelumbreProjectI mean he is a prowrestling guy. If there's a heel, there's gotta be a face. And there's no denying that John is a heel. He is just of delusional kind who think he's not
@@StanNotSoSaint Imma be honest though, both of these guys are heels
@@jetteyes2064 yeah. But John just outheels Woolie. By a lot. So it's not like Woolie's a face, it's just John is heeling harder =ъ
Cant wait to see John returning as the prince of Death next podcast after getting his soul slayn by Destined Covid.
in regards to john being baffled that he's the villain of this podcast despite only recommending good things and being met with the answer that he's the villain cause he's john, obviously the more nuanced answer is he threatens and he villain monologues. however i will give john this woolie is also a villain, it's just that john is a super villain. so to bring it up to a hunter x hunter comparison it's like john is hisoka while woolie is tonpa.
but as has become evident as of last month's podcast and this month's podcast john has unkowingly performed a nen initiation in more ways than just showing woolie nen in hunter x hunter, he has awakened the seed of super villainy inside of woolie aswell.
there are no more heroes it's kill or be killed
COMBO RESURRECTION HOLY SHIT woolie should have known THAT THE FINAL GAMER ALWAYS HAS A PLAN!
John is right that Woolie made the Fear and Hunger challenge so much harder on himself. He never told him to beat the game.
Also notable is that Woolie, instead of doing multiple runs to try out different characters/tactics/routes and figure things out, essentially brute forced it on what i believe was only his second attempt. I believe the comment was "Jon played F&H like Griffith, Woolie played it like Guts."
@@therealjohnrenzi1817 and still seemingly blames John for his own choices lol
The best way to tell that you are a heel is inisisting that you are not a heel
I’m only part of the way in and I can truly say I would protect Philippe with my life. I hope he’s living his best existence.
Edit: a valiant battle, almost a worthy foe to Kathy. You are a noble warrior indeed, Hobo Crawfish!
Watching versus wolves is like watching a negotiation where both parties keep placing guns on the table to intimidate the other party.
This becomes more accurate the deeper I get into the episode. 😂
One more big comment so I can gush about the morning dew monologue:
Appreciate the symbolic gravity of what Griffith is saying here.
Going from that to Isidro gassing up Serpico because he jumped over a railing is partially why I got fed up with Sandworms of Berk.
johns friend is like finding a shiny pokemon in real life
LoGH is fantastic, HoboCrawfish is in for a treat. Will be interesting to hear next podcast. Meanwhile, will wait for next Kathy stream.
Glad to see the PVP podcast format is still going strong.
Dokapon Kingdom is simply Mario Party X Munchkin.
That's why it's the best "board" game ever made.
A multiplayer marathon pokapon match should become the next charity marathon
Puck is the absolute MVP for me. He carried me through the Black Swordsman and Lost Children arcs where I almost put the series down for good. I never would have gotten into or out of Golden Age without him.
John had no idea how appropriate Woolie's pick of Dokapon was against Berserk...until IT happened!
I feel betrayed that they're not both wearing suits.😂
I can't believe Woolie recommended Omikron AGAIN! 😱
What a mad lad.
When Johnn is pointing the same gun at Woolie
havent seen this episode yet but unironically after hearing about johns turmoil i kinda want to see woolie get a taste of his own medicine. like im shocked wolves versus is even still around, its only a matter of time before woolie repents

Nobody knows anything about this Fake Eyepatch Dog anyway and he seems to love Garfield and thinks the latest movie is amazing LoL.

2:29:20 the simultaneous "this is INSANE" between past John and present Wooly goes SO HARD

"Did this suggestion change after Dokapon?" Oh Woolie a lot of things changed after Dokapon almost like a Hawk of Light bringing a new dawn
You're telling me that Woolie The Liar (stealer of pies) would be the first to try and decieve us like this?!?!
SHAME!!!
Seeing John take off his headphones and start windmilling in celebration was such a great moment
I'm so curious where this is going.
2:29:21 woolie and recorded john saying "this is insane!" in perfect synchro is amazing
