    The only other place I have heard the use of "burn" in similar manner was that 70's show (although Ben's use was more sophisticated). Is that expression not popular in English language anymore?

    • @draevonmay7704
      @draevonmay7704 8 років тому +2

      It's "feel the Bern," which is a spin off Bernie Sanders' name. It's a common catchphrase for Bernie supporters, especial the millennial crowd. The original phrase "feel the burn" used to be more popular, although I don't know its date of origination or popularity in recent years.

    • @AG-ld6rv
      @AG-ld6rv Рік тому +2

      You really shouldn't think someone is great / bad for agreeing / not agreeing with your political views. Let's focus on economy for a second. People who study economies their entire lives, getting a Ph.D. on the topic, disagree with each other. It's incredibly naïve when someone who hasn't even read a casual book on the topic feels so strongly about it, and in a modern, specialized society, most people, in fact, don't have time to be doing that research. Imagine a world where everyone posted about theoretical physics on their Facebook page and ridiculously name called people for believing in the "wrong" interpretation of quantum mechanics. It really is equally insane how many people treat politics.

    I'm still learning but I don't understand why white resigned. What about a knight move??? My preferred knight c3-e2 or a sacrifice knight d4-f3

    • @AG-ld6rv
      @AG-ld6rv Рік тому +1

      If you plug the position into an engine, it finds a forced checkmate in 15 moves. While a human might not be able to find a mate in 15 like that one, humans are quick to notice the elements of the position that indicate a mate is in the air. The king has no defensive pieces around it while black has many pieces in the attack.

  • @Ibakecookiess

    at 20:09 can somebody explain why the A3 bishop is not impressive but the g7 bishop is? They seem similar in regards to activity. Thanks.

    • @pist5343
      @pist5343 8 років тому +3

      +Ibakecookiess They are both directed into opponent's territory, but you can notice, that white's bishop has no targets. It attacks absolutely nothing, while the g7 Bishop is pressuring 2 knights and a rook, pinning everything. Just look at the variations after the sacrifice, it picks up a lot of material in many lines. The diffrence is really incredible.

    • @AG-ld6rv
      @AG-ld6rv Рік тому +1

      As GM Finegold explains in the video, a good piece from white's perspective at that moment is one that defends the king since king safety is so bad. All the pieces far away from the king can't help defend against a mating attack. On the other hand, a good piece from black's perspective is an attacking piece that either helps checkmate the king or win large amounts of material. The g7 bishop is lined up with three of white's pieces, and in various variations (some of which he shows), that bishop comes into play to secure a material advantage that leads to a clearly winning position for black.

      +Maximalus There is that line 1... Bxe2 2. Nxe2 Bxa1 3. Rxa1 and here, if you count the material, Fischer has a rook and two pawns for two pieces, so he is only a pawn up(remember he sacrificed his knight earlier on f2) It's not worth giving up that monster bishop to regain the material, his attack is overwhelming after d4!

    Funny, I've always thought of this one as the most famous (and best). vs. D. Byrne sounds cool ("Queen sac"!) but it didn't really take that much imagination to play. The final position in this game, and the ones leading up to it, are the most amazing positions. I sympathize with the gallery for not seeing what was going on. Black's knights seem to be making dubious captures, then Black has no piece past the 2nd rank...and White resigns!
    Among historical games, Saemisch-Nimzowitsch (final) and Rotlewi-Rubenstein (prior to ...Rxc3) are the only positions I can think of where the evaluation defies the appearance so dramatically.

      With that statement he is directly challenginging the legitimacy of that statement itself. Now this is leading to a paradox lol.

    Nice lecture-nice game. Could do without the political opinion stuff - I watch chess videos to get away from that nonsense. But thanks for the vid!

      Ben always runs the same jokes. He has a video from like 2014 doing the Trump joke. This one is before the primaries had even begun, before Trump was even considered a relevant primary candidate even. It's not politically motivated.

    • @vetiarvind

      bad.m1notaur it pays them pittens per video..you need to get millions of views before you even start making decent money off youtube ads.

      I understand that I didn't pay him to watch his video. I assume, however, since they left the comment section on that they invite comments. I tuned in because I was interested in what GM Finegold had to say about this famous game and was treated to his political beliefs before he got to the actual lecture. I find that distasteful and exercised my free speech to say so. I just find it kind of amusing that you try to curtail my right to free speech by arguing that he has the right to free speech. lol

      vetiarvind you inferred that I should refrain from saying what I said because I didn't pay him.

    I gave you a thumbs down. What does Donald Trump and what he knows or doesn’t know have to do with the subject matter? Although you or your father were chess masters, politicizing chess is quite dumb!

      Tbh you're right. He's alienating half his potential audience by infusing his chess lectures with politics. I'd be happy to watch a video about his politics, but all he does in his lectures is spouting some nonsensical oneliners. Frustrating, because otherwise he's a great speaker and genuinely funny sometimes.

      I seriously doubt half the people watching chess videos are trump supporters considering a low IQ correlates with being conservative and chess is a thinking man's game.
      journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0956797611421206
      Besides, if you are going to not watch hour long videos because of a 5 second joke, then one: you are a fucking sensitive snowflake who can't take a joke, two: you haven't and never were going to watch many Finegold videos in the first place regardless of the jokes and three: you are a whiny little baby.
      Besides, this isn't television. You could easily just skip ahead using the jump 10-15 seconds feature or scroll on the bottom if you really cared so much about having your delicate political sensibilities never questioned by anyone ever.
      Jesus, when did conservatives become such whiny babies. The comment section is FULL of conservative snowflake bitches. Maybe if you listen to some dissenting voices your balls will finally drop.

      @Daniel Burke Chess ability actually correlates with iq: Giovanni Sala, Alexander P. Burgoyne, et al. "Checking the “Academic Selection” argument. Chess players outperform non-chess players in cognitive skills related to intelligence: A meta-analysis." Intelligence 61: 130-139. Published: March-April 2017. DOI: 10.1016/j.intell.2017.01.013
      Since high intelligence tends to correlate with liberalism, it can be said that liberals are better at chess.
      No ones claiming "liberals are better." I said what I said: "low IQ correlates with being conservative and chess is a thinking man's game." and "Chess ability actually correlates with iq" and claim that and nothing more with actual meta analysis to prove it.
      You use anecdotal and bad apple fallacies and whine "NOOOOOO" in the face of clear and obvious defeat. This is the problem with talking to conservatives: you have to explain everything to them very slowly and even then, they are too stupid to do anything but parrot idiotic bullshit they read on the internet written by a loser in his moms basement who claims his lack of ability to get laid isnt his disgusting physical and mental appearance, its a Man Going his Own Way. LOL
