1:24:50 I just gained a whole new level of respect for Elijah for putting that so insightfully. I don't get into loot boxes or skins, but that statement of "It's only the top 1000 that matter, so if you can't make it there, your next chance is to look cool, and look like you belong." It's a horrible, and I hate the companies seizing on this, but it does really explain for me why so many people buy into their favourite game's MTX.

i think that those types of people (definatly not linus or anyone ragarding him). have even been able to make us all feel some type of way, we damn well know wasnt any real fault of the person we either have bad or good feelings. are the every good persons problems around our globe. the people decieving people for their own gain. becouse we all know we are supposed to work towards some greater good. we currently feel we are all halted somewhere. and with the internet, i think at least i realised how people act when they are fully honest, linus i think i would be able to comunicate with, while i think i would keep my thrust 100% real by using the right communication. we know the people who act fully honest all the time. on video wich has been proven to be factual by either people outraging, but the outrage being solved by all knowing miscomunication hapened somewhere, someone other than that person known to be honest lying to us. and a lot of people i know to trust to be honest about the info they share on internet at least. all are able to have a style of comunicating that does have matching stuff with the others i can fully thrust. when i apply that knowledge in the real world, i can know which people are actually decieving people whit bad intentions, becouse that knowledge i said to have gained, has some people that have nothing in common with that comunication style and often with known tactics to find out liars, i am to think that they are definetley trying something with bad intent. those that dont get found to be lying i either think they have decieved me, or is me not being informed about them enough. then i think about cases where they are lying but also speaking with the comunication style that matches with honest people, makes me think those are people that have good intentions, but arent smart enough. meaning they either dont know or have been decieved or lied to. and if you would find no lie, and the comunication style matches. those would in that logic be telling only truth, in the ability of their ``smartness``
now if you would be so kind to put some effort into this logic, once you start applying that logic to your world, we should be able to both agree if its treu. becouse even tough i migh get you to question me. and i am able to clarify enough to make you at least understand my idea, that would mean my answers are making enough sense for a fellow person, so that would make it that either i dont tell you the real truth or you dont tell the truth. becouse we would only need one person that actually would make sense to both of us. meaning the effect the internet has on me. has potential for people to atleast realise we are smart enough to realise how we can defeat lies we are told about.
      TLDR.
i know the way lies are defeated and mad enough to prove it. or i will be crazy.

Pretty sure "You can fascinate a woman with a piece of cheese" was written about my wife.
The day I proposed, I took her on "The Cheesiest Date Ever™".
First, we went to a semi-local specialty cheese store and got a bunch of random strange cheeses.
Second, we went to The Melting Pot (fondue restaurant chain in the US)
Then, we went to Costco and got a big bag of babybels.
Afterwards, we went to the park where we first met so we could walk around the trail and eat more cheese.
During one of our mid-walk snack breaks, I grabbed us each a babybel from my pocket. She happily munched on hers, and then I got on one knee, unwrapped my "babybel" which was actually a 3d printed ring box wrapped with a ribbon and dipped in red wax to look like a babybel, and proposed.
She said yes! That was about 3 years ago.

Vitamin D has no excuse, especially since they add it to their promos anyways.
But iron notoriously tastes BRUTAL as a supplement. My gf is a vegetarian with celiac (linked to anemia) and every supplement she’s tried brutal. They’re selling a yummy nutrient supplement. Personally I don’t think you should get it, but if you wanna drink a lot of vitamins that taste good for too much money, it’s exactly what it says. 1:42:00 I think one of the reasons the Asian market was so adverse, especially for luxury items, was that if you buy second hand the likelyhood that you're getting a fake was extremely high because of how many more fakes there were than real ones. The entire concept of 代購 or personal import resale was as much about finding cheaper prices as it was guaranteeing that you got an authentic product.
Now that you've got a lot of genuine product in the hands of consumers, the confidence of second hand buyers are higher.

Nah man I don't know. They start the convo talking about gambling and random chance, and somehow they keep the same arguments for a flat purchase. If people really had morals and were against gambling, they would go after the skin crafting tool Riot added years ago. But people won't because they get free skins from it, so they will never say anything about it.
Its a free to play game, the skins are only cosmetic, and you get free skins all the time. And people still complain that the cosmetics are too expensive. I get some people struggle with social status and addictions, etc, but should we just make selling anything expensive illegal? It's just fake outrage imo

While there are MANY things that are priced way out of and sense of normalcy (and the source of this kind of outage), the heart of commerce is value (money) for value (labor, food, and other products of time and effort).
While this is often taken advantage of, it's the most successful system we've seen so far.
The body of the argument seems to suggest a sliding scale of payment for things, so I do admit to some confusion.

@@Grandwigg no I get what you mean, but my point is that the (value)/(cost) for league skins is the same for a $5 skin as it is for a $500 skin - zero, because the value is zero. It doesn't give any advantage in game (theoretically), it's free for riot to distribute, it's not resellable, etc. So how do we determine where the sliding scale is for such products? Ultimately, we need to do that in order to claim that $500 is outside of the scale.
As Luke said - it is the only way the game is monetized and there are almost no incentives for people to buy skins since they dont need them and can get them for free if they just play. I dislike Riot a lot for different reasons, but I think in terms of monetizing their games, they are one of the better gaming companies. I'll take lol's skin system over fifa's player packs any time

2:43:00 The autonomous farming thing has a big issue though - the way farming machines are being partially automated now (primarily based on GPS) is massively subject to both solar storm interference and also civilian/military messing around with spoofing. Unless the industry moves to redundant systems, you will have problems just like happened last month during a massive geomagnetic storm - lots of harvesters/similar equipment just stopped on the fields because location data was unreliable.
In one place I've seen, folks had been suggesting using GPS RTK systems instead (where you have a bunch of base stations nearby with known position, so you get both higher accuracy and resilience in case the GPS signal goes wonky, as you have N local known points of reference for navigation), perhaps based on things like Wifi or Lora.

The only way to capture anything was to physically sneak in a device or something.

As a SOC analyst for a multi-billion dollar corporation, I can confirm this is a needed risk management feature. In addition to insider threats, threat actors that have access to a PC can trigger screenshots remotely. Threat actors can't use their phone to take a picture. As for insider threats, we control employee cellphones and know if they are taking pictures of their computers (and yes, we can see the images.) They can use a personal device, but that's what lawyers are for. We are not a government or military agency, but we do have DoD contracts. In order to keep those very lucrative contracts, we must comply with this level of risk management. Welcome to the future.

The discussion on the permanent lease for real estate actually reminds me of one of the start ups I worked for leasing servers. After I asked why we leased the servers I found out there was no discount to it, so we paid the same price and after 3 years we had to send the servers back to the vendor and lease new servers. The most bizarre thing was we also learned that the "keep your drive" option we paid for only applied to replacements and not when returning the server, so we still had to do the work of securely erasing all the data ourselves. Personally I would have liked them to just give away the old servers to employees but I guess having capital expenses looks bad or something stupid like that.
I would say it's crazy to me that this practice also occurs in real estate, but we had multiple millions of dollars in servers so while the resale value is obviously different we're still talking about flushing away a lot of money.

I dont like it, give me a option to get the game sent to me on a USB flash drive or even made into cds and i will pay it. and i mean the full game, license code and all without the steam account being needed. The problem is not about storage, its about license and in a broader sense anonymity vs identity. Valve is basically saying that they only operate on account-recognition basis, not a personhood recognition. They don't care who you are, they only care about what you have access to (except for rare case where identity is required, like fraudulent payment). So it doesn't make sense for them to support "account bequeathing".
Storage is relatively cheap for company of their size. As it doesn't matter if game X was a flop with only one buyer, or massive success with millions of "copies", They only need to store one master copy and distribute those based on request (IIRC they offload those problem to Akamai so they only pay for actual transfer).

The bad part about Ahri skin is that it's made do commemorate the best profesional player ever and hee gets like $30 out of $500. Also, FAKER is THE GUY that had a skin made for winning the worlds with his team and waited it to get promoted to buy because he said the full price was too much ($5 - $10). So not only it does not match at all with the values of the guy the skin is made for, but also the game is in a terrible state with a lot of game braking bugs, lot of unannounced micropatches. They make massive changes every month, you have no stability. Not to mention that they do this almost pay-to-win things where they mega buff champions before skins are released, beyond the point of overpowered.
For example, Ahri ultimate is 3 dashes that does dmg. Not only they lowered cooldown to about 2 minutes at lvl 1 (game is 30-50 minutes), they introduced a item that lowers the ultimate even more, and her general best items have all cooldown reduction. To the point she have it every 30 seconds, and the cooldown timer starts after the first dash (she can hold each dash after the first one for a 10 seconds) and for each kill /assists she gets another dash. So in a teamfight you can have 8 dashes.
I was sure that she will be the next money cow for riot, i started perma ban her way before the skin is announced.

Companies being people is probably the dumbest hack of all time. As I understand it it was done as people owned stuff so instead of rewriting things that non people could own things we just made companies people and it probably was the biggest fuck up in the history of trying to avoid work in all time.

I think the worst thing about Intel is that they remove ECC from desktop CPUs and then lie for decades that we don’t need stable memory (until that became the default folklore that people actually believe)

This is nothing new, and it was never targeted at personal ownership (not sure why Luke would say what he said)... it's a long-term lease of publicly owned land for a commercial entity to use.

*[**1:02:04**] Topic #7: Cheat providers found guilty in two lawsuits.*
When it comes to the cheats, I'm a bit cautious about this decision... You know damn well that a company like EA or Activision may then use this case to then target mods. Yes, online cheating is bad, but has the ruling been specifically narrowed to software which allows an advantage in online multiplayer? If not, they may start targeting mods of single player games that change the play style. Or even worse, any game which has cosmetic purchases will start calling mods that change the cosmetics "cheating".
If you think that last statement is ridiculous, just remember. Judges and lawyers keep definitions of words flexible, and are often stretched, even for just one narrow instance, for particular legislation In legal cases to allow the law to be more nimble, and adapt to changing legal issues faster than legislators can keep up. A good example is subway sandwiches in Ireland. For the purposes of tax, there breads are considered cakes, as the sugar content is closer to a brioche bun then to bread. Even then, think about that. Would you call a brioche bun cake? Because Irish law does.

I still say the change in aspect ratio was still silly. No one else did it. And you still don't consistently do it. It's not done on the WAN show. It's not done in half your videos. It clearly is not that big a deal.
The only thing it really accomplished was being annoying because, unlike every other video, your videos would show the notch. It's better to have black bars that hide the notch. People literally get apps that darkened the top bar so the notch wouldn't be visible.
The better choice is to just protect the frame so users could zoom in. Rather than reduce your effective resolution. Stick with the standard 16:9 that everything is already designed around, rather than trying to roll your own new standard.
Edit: And then you mention that last part of it. But the thing is, you can do that now. UA-cam has zoom features, and even an option to always fill the screen on any device. Just use safe zones.
But don't use a square aspect ratio. That's silly. Stick with the aspect ratio for video that everything is designed around. Stick with the one that will work on TVs with the least amount of fuss: 16:9.
This isn't something where you need to stand out.

    • @TealJosh
      @TealJosh 7 місяців тому

tbh 4:3 with protected zones + youtube new feature automated cropping would be an excellent idea

    • @ZipplyZane
      @ZipplyZane 7 місяців тому

@@TealJosh The cool part is that this is already a feature. But it's just not turned on by default.
Though it could be nice if a creator could suggest it, and that there would be an auto option to only enable it if a video is marked.
And while 16:9 is the main standard (and was designed to require the minimal amount of cropping for all common aspect ratios), 4:3 is probably the next best. Things are still designed for it.
But the cameras probably already do 16:9. Might as well keep everything that the camera sees.

1:31:58 some missing context they have acknowledge that they know those people exist, last year they released a loot box system, that people figured out that it was just masking the real price of a $200 skin (or something like that) people got mad the same way and after some pressure some devs just came out and said exactly that, that those whales exist and do ask them for that type of content frequently.
some more missing context from your notes, i find extremely gross that their solution to last year controversy is this skin line with celebrity endorsements, thats it guys its not random we fix it, go buy it because you like faker and want to support him /s
more missing context the person they are featuring on this skin line, IS that chad that do beats you with the default skin lol. and a lot of people are also saying we should boycott and not buy because the guy that they are trying to promote wouldn't buy it himself anyways xD

Something that does worry me about the court case wins for cheats is how broad it could reach. I absolutely agree that cheats of all sorts shouldn't be allowed to continue for multiplayer and competitive games.
But I think exemptions should be in place for single player games, but the law isn't going to cover that. That worries me when it comes to the legality of game mods and the like. Granted that most mods currently out there aren't commercial software like the competitive cheats, but it might apply to someone seeking compensation for their mod-work via Patreon or the other donation-like sites out there that should have some validity.
Keep in mind Nintendo's court battles against Galoob/Codemaster's Game Genie back in the day. I don't think they care to the same extent these days, but it's there for sure.

I feel like you're on the right track but I think it should be year than tier, since the more recent year would generally be the more powerful product.
But for whatever reason TV shows with ex in the name get better ratings.
Wait and that's a quote from Stargate sorry.
What I mean to say is that products with XY and Z tend to sell better for whatever reason.
