as a proud Volgograd(former Stalingrad) born and rised, I can tell it's the biggest monument of the memorial parc Mamayev Kurgan, where the most violent episodes of Stalingrad Battle took place. The monument symbolises bravety and resilience of Soviet people (not only Russians, but Ukrainians, Kazakhs etc). There're many others statues in the parc: a mother crying over her dead son, happy factory workers, who worked the way to the victory, a soldier throwing apart a serpent (symbol of nazism) etc
