    Great vid Cap!
    Would it be possible to create a senario to illustrate the power of the hive-mind using Link16? For example, having an F-35 running stealth and sharing radar ahead of a wing of F-15 missile trucks VS a Felon with a wing of comparable gen 4 missile trucks?? I'm guessing you would need a AWACS on the US side to simulate Link16?

      @@tofubutcher7456 The video feed part of the DAS and the function it serves are slightly different. The interviews talk about use of the video feed but the system itself is part IRST, part MWS, so it's always active and helping in targeting things. Since the F-35 fuses data it doesn't tell you necessarily _where_ data comes from, just that there are targets to be designated (see page 10 here: swiss-f35.ch/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/PIRA-F-35-Sensor-Fusion-Brief-for-Switzerland.pdf ). In terms of loadout if the US is giving the F35 ability to carry 6 missiles internally, would it be safe to assume that China will do the same with the J35 considering its still in development, then re-run the engagement to level the playing field in terms of missiles as it does look both jets are pretty much the same when in ACM so would be interesting to see if the F35 with its slightly better kinematics will result in the same win/loss ratio

      18,000lbs of fuel and a 670nm+ combat radius isn't what I'd call a range issue for only a 250km bullseye; to my knowledge that's the longest range fighter on internal fuel to date except maybe the J-20

    • @badwolftx2139
      @badwolftx2139 Рік тому

      @@forzaelite1248 Not exactly what I was getting at. How about this as a real world scenario to get at my point.
      Let's say something has happened around the Senaku Islands north of Taiwan that both the US and China are concerned about. In real life, these are completely uninhabited and also in real life are jointly disputed territory between all 3 of China, Japan, and Taiwan.
      So, in this scenario, whatever happened it's definitely something both sides have determined is F-35 / J-35 level concerning, but apparently not all the way to F-22 / J -20 level concerning.
      The mission for both sides, unbeknownst to the other is to get there fast and take control the airspace over the islands until reinforcements can arrive. In other words, both sides launch thinking that they are the only ones sending planes to the area.
      So both sides immediately launch 4 planes to the area. China from the new Shuimen Air Base and the US from Kadena. In real life Kadena is maybe a few km farther from the islands but let's just say for this scenario that Bullseye for whatever interesting thing that happened is exactly 400km from both bases. It's close enough at these speeds.
      Launching at the same time, the J-35 is faster, has a longer range, and can even supercruise. It's getting there first by a wide margin and still with plenty of fuel to loiter for a while.
      Fat Amy is slower but stealthier. When the F-35s get there, they will probably not have been spotted but they will also have already used up quite a bit of fuel. This would not have been a problem if they were just going there to loiter unopposed for a while, but the J-35s are their first and now Fat Amy has a serious dilemma. If they engage they might have the element of surprise, but if the first shots are not perfect, pretty much any ACM from the F-35s is going to burn so much fuel it will be hard to sustain the fight.
      Stealth is nice kit...it's very pretty...but there no substitute for speed/power and range. The F-35 is a very expensive plane with no real mission.

      Vectored thrust is also useful for high altitude control in thin sir above 60,000 feet.
      That can be useful for high altitude interceptions. The spy balloon shot down by an F-22 for example.
      Additionally, it can potentially shorten the required runway length to takeoff. Which might help get fighters in the air a bit quicker and from more potential bases.
      The downside is cost, complexity, and weight.

    • @forzaelite1248
      @forzaelite1248 Рік тому +1

      Internal mounting is gonna be difficult or impossible due to the AIM-9 being a rail ignited only missile, even with LOAL updates it's not gonna go inside. The Peregrine missile in development is a bit more promising though, it's about the diameter of an AMRAAM but half size with an RF+IR seeker. Carrying 2 JATMS (4 w/ sidekick) and 4 Peregrines should become a standard AA loadout whenever they enter service.

    Theoretical: F-35 in Center Ukraine.
    I have been pondering on the following scenario: Would a wing of F-35 operating in center Ukraine, between Poltava and Dnipro, always 100+ km away from the border be untouchable by Russia? To far away from S400 to be locked. To far away from the front to be locked, but able to harass anything over the front with Meteors? Especially enemy choppers.
    Stationed to the west on decentralized improvised runways. I am aware, that the training would take forever and that the planes on the ground would be prime targets for missile strikes.
    Could Ukraine set up a data link without AWACS? How threatened would Russian planes penetrating into Ukraine to get a lock be.
