@@Blackberryfae it was designed to make Rose and Blanche look buffoonish and create an awkward moment. That was the point. It's called comedy. If comedy didn't push the envelope a little bit sometimes, it would cease to be comedy and just be boring. People are way too sensitive nowadays.
Interesting you mentioned that. It's ironic hulu is pulling this episode because it actually has a positive message about race. some of the best episodes of classic tv dealt with race and had "offensive" language in it. I wonder what they're going to do to The Jeffersons and All in The Family...a ton of "racist" language in those shows, but with a purpose and an important context.
Rose is right. I definitely side with Rose.If two people truly love one another what difference does it make what a person look like. It's what's inside that really counts.👏👏.

Let me educate everyone. The mud facial is exactly what it is, a mud facial. Since this is a comedy show, it gives the coincidence of them doing facials. As a black person all I seen was a mud facial. It does get close to the line but it is not black face. Black face is actually the color black on a face. All women and some men have mud facials which is the color of brown. Actually, the writing is great and funny, this is what you should expect in a comedy show, close to the line but not over the line. Now, if black people say we’ll not offended which many on this page have said, then we know what we'll talking about. If anybody knows about racism it's black people, we experience on the regular, however we have a way of ignoring the ignorance of racism. Many of us can see something that is racist a mile away, we can sniff a racist person out in a room. Believe me we are experts on race relations and white racism. Racist white people taught it to us.
Udo Ka Whats so funny too I watched one episode and one of the ladies had a pair of Chanel earrings on. Yet in the show they have to share expenses because they can’t make it alone 🤣
"SEX. At 20, a man is at his peak, and a woman in her 40s is also at her peak, so when the two come together, HOT DAYUM!" And here we have my favorite Blanche line. She just didn't hold back.
I remember the episode from the first broadcast. It was one of my top 10 all-time favourites. Watching it again now the mudpacks don't bother me, but it is jarring to see a moment not shown here, and that is when Dorothy growls "oh God" when Michael first tells her he's marrying a black woman. I am noticing that a lot of Sophia's lines are being cut in today's broadcast edits.
I’m sorry to hear that this episode was pulled from Hulu. It’s one of my favorites! (For the record, I’m a Democratic Socialist, leftist, and big ol’ gay). As others have said, Rose and Blanche wearing mud masks is a joke on THEM: it’s supposed to *look like* blackface, and we laugh because we know that blackface is wrong and offensive (it’s also justified in story as them getting makeovers for an upcoming cruise). It’s also worth noting that both Blanche-a Southerner who grew up in the pre-Civil Rights era-and Sophia-an eighty-year-old immigrant-are the MOST accepting people in the room; usually those characters are coded as racist by default (Sophia doesn’t even common on Lorraine’s being Black, and Blanche firmly rejects the notion of racism). While I do agree that Black people should have the final say on whether or not something is offensive, I also hope that we can have nuanced conversations about different instances. There is no “one size fits all” solution. Thank you for reading my thoughts!
The only people offended by this are teenagers that want you to refer to them as a cat and are looking to start drama online. There's never any real " backlash ". Stop apologising to these bullied and giving in to their nonsense.

As in look how silly and impolite those two are, there they go again, they should know better! It’s just a lame ass joke.
Blanche: Wait just a minute while I go get a pencil😂
Leave it up to Rose and Blanche to kill the Racial tension in the room 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
When Sophia walked in talking about some Raisin in the Sun, honeyyyy🙌🏾😂🤣😂🤣😂
Who’s here after Hulu removed this episode?
Lewis Maynard me 🤣😂
I felt so sad because this is one of the funniest episodes of the season
I have the DVD's so I can watch this episode any time I dang well please. Making a case for physical ownership here of TV shows and movies and music.
People are so damn political correct these days
Seriously? This scene *objects* the ideas of racism.
1:26 well...Blanche ain’t lying
My own experience of an older woman wasn't much to write home about
Rose always the voice of reason lol
Now, that is frightening
Admit it. The minute Sophia came in the crowd didn’t wait for her to say a line cause they know where THIS is going.~
They knew shit was about to go down😂
Rose "watch a white person dance down a line on Soul Train" 😂😂
Lacedra Minor 😂 😂 😂
(To Rose) "There's a bunch lf white people that were on soul train you idiot."
What they were was honest. The reactions of both the black and white characters is exactly what would really happen. What makes you uncomfortable is that it is a window into how we really are as a people.
Who's the we. Speak for yourself Sir..
@@FKimE The we is everyone. Those who doth protest too much are probably the worst offenders. This does not mean that this stuff is becoming more normalized as time goes by which is a good thing.
Human beings never grow up
The moment Sophia walks in! Priceles
The folks at HULU need to actually watch this episode before overreacting . They actually tackled the issue of racism. They did not do black face , they are using mud mask for wrinkles 🤦🏽♂️
Wale Williams I agree ☝️
Yes!!! I'm so mad that they are pulling this episode
Um… it’s on there lol i watched it last night
Currently watching now
The mud mask is not for wrinkles. It detoxifies and tightens your pores.
"the sex A man in his 20s are at their peak and woman in her 40s are also at their peak hot damn" 😂😂😂 let me get a pen 😂😂😂😂
Who ever finds this offensive and wanted this episode banned must live a humorless and pathetic life.
Just heard this episode was pulled from Hulu for "blackface". I'm black and this definitely did not mock us which is what blackface is intended to do. Ppl need to watch this clip because they dont have the full context✌🏾. It was educational on the topic of race/interracial relationships of it's time.
Context doesn't matter to these leftists. They work only on emotion no matter what the facts. I have the DVD's of this show. I can watch this episode any time I dang well please. That is my case for physical ownership of movies, TV shows, and music.
I mean, it was that it INSINUATED that the girls met the parents and were like "whoops oh my god accidental black face oh my god what if they read this the wrong way," but I agree that it shouldn't have been pulled.
@@Blackberryfae it was designed to make Rose and Blanche look buffoonish and create an awkward moment. That was the point. It's called comedy. If comedy didn't push the envelope a little bit sometimes, it would cease to be comedy and just be boring. People are way too sensitive nowadays.
Same here for being black and I found this funny
Interesting you mentioned that. I looked it up on UA-cam for the very reason that I can't find it on itunes (which has most Golden Girls episodes available for download) and it is not there, although the rest of the season is. Michael's girlfriend's mother, while not wearing her glasses, mistakes Rose and Blanche, with mud masks on, for Black people, and that is played as a joke, but they didn't put on blackface to pretend to be Black.
It's all about context!!! It's a MUD PACK! Now if they came in the room singing Al Jolsen songs then I would have a problem! The idea of Rose watching "Soul Train" is hilarious!!!
We all loved Soul Train at home. My mom specially and we are latino. She didnt know english, she would say she loved seeing people dance. Brings me memories the mention of it.
You don’t know about Al Jolson. He was a FRIEND to blacks.
Why? She can watch Soul Train or anything else. There is no race restriction for TV shows.
@@plawson8577 Like the KKK?
@@Michelle-pn9xt I mean "Hilarious" In the best way! We all know Rose is a great dancer flips cart wheels and all!
I can watch golden girls over and over, and don't get bored. 😊❤
The funniest thing about this episode is how Lorraine’s mother and Dorothy look just alike 😂
And they both have an obnoxious mother too.
You must be blind. They look nothing alike. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
@@harperstacey9604, you do realize that you can look just like someone who is the opposite race, right? obviously they aren’t the same color… but their hairstyles and attitudes are similar, and they are both the same height. Lorraine’s mother is the black version of Dorothy 😂
@@Reed___ I see it. You're right. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
The Moment I Saw Sophia walked in I knew there was going to be some sass coming out of her mouth.
If you don't fall more in love with Blanche and Rose after this episode you're a broken person 🤣
Is she for real? Best line, best delivery!
Frightening, isnt it?
It's ironic hulu is pulling this episode because it actually has a positive message about race. some of the best episodes of classic tv dealt with race and had "offensive" language in it. I wonder what they're going to do to The Jeffersons and All in The Family...a ton of "racist" language in those shows, but with a purpose and an important context.
I’m black and I don’t see the issue. It’s hilarious and you know the intent of this isn’t to be malicious or harm either black or white people.
Anne Liesveld you are so desperate to be a victim.
Oh lawd! What a perfect night for Rose and Blanche to have mud masks!🤣😂🤣😂
The painted faces are a beauty treatment they were doing. It was a coincidence black people walked in.
1:32
“When the two come together, HOT DAMN!”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
R.I.P Betty White what a great cast.
Each one played off the others personality.
One of my favorite sitcoms.
Rose is right. I definitely side with Rose.If two people truly love one another what difference does it make what a person look like. It's what's inside that really counts.👏👏.
The perfect song for Rose to sing with the other ladies would be : GET TOGETHER by Youngblood. A song about LOVE.
tell that to the racist mother who had th nerve to play victim and accuse Dorothy of being a racist when SHE was the racist one. Dorothy had a problem with the age difference, not the skin color.
@@sandiego2380 I definitely agree with you. Dorothy was concerned about the age difference but the racist bigot mother is the biggest racist ever. I agree 200 percent with Rose. As long as 2 people love each other that's all that matters . Sophia curiosity about certain men in the bedroom had me laughing though.
@@montygreen6228 it's so sad that my black friend is exactly like that, every time I would criticize someone who happens to be black, he would be like 'why, because he's black?'
@@sandiego2380 You don't seem to be the kind of person who would judge someone because of their race. Your GREAT comments showed that you are a KINDHEARTED person. I don't agree with your friend. Its what's inside a person that really counts.Thats the message Rose was trying to explain to the bigoted mother in the red dress.
Bea Arthur is a national treasure. I especially love her in Rolling Courage: A Joe Swanson Story as Peter Griffin.
"You're a fool Joe! A fool!" 😂
Also starring Valerie Bert-and-Ernie
I love this show!!!! So innovative, there will never be another😫😔❤️
Thanks for letting this shows longer for us to enjoyed😂❤
Blanche has me rolling....🤣🤣🤣
The part where Sophia walks in the room and goes what is this a revival of raisin in the sun!?
I laughed extra hard at that part!
Sofias entrance lines are always so great.
I'm guessing Hulu took this episode with out watching. It tackles two sensitive topics. It was mud on their faces and it wasn't black facing
I love how when Sophia walked in, the audience already knew she was going straight to Savage Mode!🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved Golden Girls! They were way ahead of their time! 🤣😂
I'm black and found this scene and its approach tastefully hilarious
This was probably one of the funniest scenes of the series. I am black and I was not offended by it.
Blanche: When the 2 come together "Hot Damn" 😂😂😂😂
These women are funny af!!!
Udo Ka A TV Show that was ahead of its time. I watch it every Sunday for hours.
Diana C it really was!! I am a millennial finding this hilarious in 2020 lol!
Udo Ka Whats so funny too I watched one episode and one of the ladies had a pair of Chanel earrings on. Yet in the show they have to share expenses because they can’t make it alone 🤣
Blanche absolutely killed it in this scene!!!
“What is this, a revival of Raisin in the Sun?!?!” LMAOOOOO
I don't get that part. Was that a musical or something?
"SEX. At 20, a man is at his peak, and a woman in her 40s is also at her peak, so when the two come together, HOT DAYUM!"
And here we have my favorite Blanche line.
I saw this whole episode on Hulu. It’s powerful and tackles two tough subjects. But Hulu doesn’t seem to think so. STUPID COORPORATIONS
What happened? I cant seem to find it
You mean they actually aired it? We've come a LONG way lol
Yes.
She is for real…… frightening isn’t it.😭🤣
Blanche said "wait a minute, let me get a pencil"😂
Save The Golden Girls!
🙄 Oh Blanche, she hits the nail on the head, again. (No pun intended.) 😂😁
I love this episode, and have watch all the seasons and keep on rewatching over and over they are so hilarious. Love them.
0:45 “shut up, rose!” 😂
@3:22 Lorraine's mother to Dorothy "Is she for real?" and Dorothy replies "yeah" nods then says "frightening isn't it?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
2:21 Rose and Blanche though LOL!
