    Disagree with Martin on Inception being confusing; Inception is actually pretty straightforward if you know that it is a heist movie in a scifi wrapper, the exposition scenes explaining how they go into their mark's mind and how they plant the idea are a staple part of storytelling in heists.

      Agree. I’m not sure why people think Inception is confusing. And that’s not to say I’m smart or anything. But hell, Inception probably did the best job walking you through its stuff out of all Nolan’s films. I even think Dunkirk is more confusing when it’s actually supposed to be more straightforward

    I found John David Washington's really great. He added personality to the protagonist and his character shined through in the few moments that were not dominated by the plot. The funny bits added enough levity and life without taking away from the movies overall ambiance which I think the character development was subservient too as well (including sound mixing lol). I do agree that Robert Pattinson's performance was stellar.

    Spoilers:
    In regards to the Bond stuff, I actually think this film is almost like an origin story for the M character. Based on what The Protagonist learns at the end (and the fact that we don't know his name), he's basically the leader of this Tenet organisation. He even sent Neil on this mission. You say that Neil would have been a better fit for a Bond like character, but that's actually the point, he is the Bond of this film and that fact is not apparent till the end. Imagine a Bond film if him and M were allies on a mission together and M eventually became his superior until a later film. That's how this film went down. The Protagonist is a more proactive M.

    I saw this review. Had to wait due to covid our theatres were closed.
    This movie is definitely complex, but its growing into my favorite Nolan film.
    He has been pushing more pure, notions in his movies, but this one is complex but actually is his best.
    You cant judge the film off one viewing and I found that true of Momento, The Prestige, Inception and Interstellar as well.
    The reason is it's a sensory overload. So subsequent viewings you can focus more.
    There are so many mind fucks, twists and oh shit moments that do make sense that if you put it together, Robert Pattinson should rip your heart out.
    The ending however IS NOT POSSIBLE without the beginning which is more powerful once you understand the film.
    The best part of this is going back and if you even bring pen and paper, it helps.
    Once I discovered the Easter Eggs that led to whom Neil really was, then went back and understood The Protagonist it hit completely different.

    Washington was fine because he is the "protagonist". He is a straightforward CIA operative who doesn't know everything that is going on (or so we were led to believe). Pattinson was perfectly placed as Neil because he is the guy that knows everything, while Washington only knows certain things. I think if you guys see it a 2nd time, you will kick yourself in the ass for missing certain clues that were there all along. I think the audio for some people was a problem (it was fine in my theater) with being able to pick up certain dialogue that was extremely important to the plot and the editing didn't help. Nolan needed this film be at least 30-45 mins longer to flesh out certain scenes to help spell out the rules within this universe.

    Tenet presents a more realistic view of time, which is hard to comprehend in a narrative view. Compared to Back to the Future which is absolute nonsense yet it’s easy to follow narratively. I’d recommend looking up some dimension and space time explanations. It’s not easy to articulate, so Nolan’s really put himself in a box with the film where people just won’t like it because it’s hard to follow. Time isn’t an easy subject and takes years and years to understand. And one film won’t help it make sense for the average viewer who views time as linear. We live in a world where people still don’t understand the time travel in Endgame. So Tenet will make them feel dumb, which is very unfair. I appreciate Nolan for trying to explain this, but I just don’t think anyone can articulate it because it essentially deals with space time and a dimension humans can’t comprehend.

      Wasnt the time travel in avengers actually them going to parallel universes? And didn’t the captain america scene make no sense?

    • @archerpool
      @archerpool 4 роки тому +1

      Jet Blvck They weren’t travelling to parallel universes but rather creating them. Peoples complaints about Cap’s time travel ignores the fact that the branch timeline is created when you change the past. Meaning Cap and Peggy we’re together in an alternate timeline. People forget that and say “Well why didn’t Cap save Bucky?” For all we know he did save Bucky. He also knew that he could live life in that timeline so long as one day he travels back again and prevents it from happening, but it’d still remain in his past, thus he’s still experienced it. So that leaves one of two options, Cap either created a branch timeline and thus the multiverse occurred or he attempted to prevent that branch timeline from existing once he’d lived out his life with Peggy. Him or Peggy could’ve easily taken some Pym particles in the 70’s allowing Cap to return at some point after Peggy’s death or they could’ve received some help from Pym himself. The fact we’ve only seen Steve and Peggy dancing in that timeline means we cannot assume what occurred therefore people can’t complain saying Cap just sits there and lets Bucky get tortured. It explicitly states you can’t change your past, as everything you do becomes your present. They’ll probably never show what Cap did because it’d be too convoluted. It’s why time travel isn’t the wisest of moves narratively speaking.

    • @Pyrisy
      @Pyrisy 4 роки тому

      Archerpool my man if you created a parallel universe that you traveled too no matter what time in that universe you traveled to you traveled to a parallel universe. Also cap living out his life til old age means he created a different parallel universe when he traveled back to when we saw him on the bench or else everyone would have also old or dead. Thats not true time travel.

    • @archerpool
      @archerpool 4 роки тому

      Jet Blvck Not if he prevented that parallel universe he created. That’s literally the rule Marvel setup in Endgame which is why he was returning the stones. He could spend 70 years in an alternate universe and then travel all the way back and stop another version of himself from doing it meaning that timeline never created an anomaly yet he still experienced it. What you’re doing there is applying other time travel logic to the mix, yet Marvel use their own rules. You can’t apply other rules to it.

    • @Pyrisy
      @Pyrisy 4 роки тому

      Archerpool no im pretty sure him not returning at the exact same time and place he left would create another parallel which he could not have done without them being aware of. Actually him leaving period would. Thats based on the rules you just said. Their would automatically be a time where time travel was not interfering I would think at least but even if not its literally no way to return exactly as you were to the same point. Which would cause a butterfly effect. Once again still using their rules. That just not well thought out the way they did it. Like I said a parallel universe is not the same thing as time travel. They could not have saved the time period they came from they created another one. The one they came from is still missing half a population and along with now them. What they should have done is using the gauntlet to stop thanos from ever snapping his finger. Then that would have undone everything while actually being able to undo all the parallels they created.

      The film even somewhat addresses this at the end when it talks about nobody carrying about bombs that never go off. If something never happens even if it means everything, to each individual it never impacted them.
