  • 🤗This is Part 2 of our Sunflower No Soak germination test! ➡️In the previous video we wanted to see if we could get away with NO SOAKING and NO RINSING on Sunnies, but we didn't take it all the way to harvest day!
✅Which means in this video we we picked up where we left off, and took those beauties to harvest day to see if there was any other benefits from not soaking the seeds like we saw in Part 1.
Hope y'all enjoy our new video!!🌱👩‍🌾👨‍🌾
Since we're about to hit 30,000 subs, expect to see a video about moving the trailer for the first time! 🥳

That's it, I've watched too many of your videos not to start my own micro garden. Even if its just one wire rack in my room, I really want to try this. Plus I haven't worked in almost 2 months, and I NEED something positive to focus on. Thank you OTG you guys rock and I'm totally inspired.

Thank you for the videos once again, I always enjoy them. I will try a no-soak to compare with my current sunflower yields which are good -- averaging 500g in 8.5x14" trays for 155g (dry weight) of seed. My soaking method is 12h in cold 5.8ph water followed by 1-2h 1.5% Hydrogen Peroxide. Then a quick rinse and lay out on top of one inch+ of coir padded down quite firmly. I put a LDPE chopping board, a std. red brick and a towel on top. The brick is removed once everything has pushed up 3/4 to an inch. The chopping board is removed at about 1 1/2 inches and the towel replaced with an inverted gravel tray. At about day 5 or 6 (depending on how warm the trays have been during germination) I put them under the light for a day 9 or 10 harvest. The cut length is around 3". I only get a smattering of red on the stalks so I'm still working on improving that. All the best and thanks again! (edit: watering is twice daily at 6.2ph. Misting until roots show, then mist and bottom water for a day, then bottom watering only)

@@alisongardner7476 It worked out great, I would actually say that it turned out better for me without soaking. I don't do large scale microgreens growing, but I keep a constant rotation of at least 2 small trays that usually includes sunflower. This video was definitely on point.

Have you repeated this experiment to see if you get the same results? How about trying different soaking times (1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours, etc...) with no soaking to compare results? Also comparing all of these with or without hydrogen peroxide? I'm about to start my first batch of sunflower seeds and am going to try the no soak method. Thanks for all the great videos and inspiration and information! Super grateful!

Thank you for your video's. We have started growing a little over a week ago and soaked our sunflowers. We want to try it without soaking. I was told sunflowers can be very dirty seeds. So you not only didn't soak them, but you didn't wash them either, is that correct? We purchased our seeds from TrueLeaf as well and it seems the seeds are pretty clean from them. Do you spray them with hydrogen Peroxide at all when watering them on day one?

My first batch of seed from True Leaf Market were terrible ( uneven germination, seed hull not falling off, low yield, mold ). My second batch of seed from True Leaf Market were perfect no issues at all with the exact same growing method. It's out of your control so you need some luck when it comes to seeds.

Love, love, love your vids! You both have answered a lot of my questions about growing microgreens at home with great demonstrations. I have one question about this trial: did you use your usual food grade peroxide treatment to prevent fungus when you did this trial? I have read a couple of studies about how H2O2 can help germination in several ways. I'm going to have to try a few experiments of my own in my new century victory garden. Thank you for sharing.

I had a lot of the red stem on my sunflowers but they have kind of an off metallic taste to me at the finish. at first it tasted kind of like a snap pea but had a weird aftertaste. I hope they don't have that taste and I just got a 5 pound bag and they aren't something I will actually eat.
    What do you think? Halppppp

    Hai dears,
In kuwait i searched for hydrogen peroxide food grade, but 6% is only available and in that bottle no food grade details mentioned too.
And in your videos 2 Tbsp HP for 1 litre water so can you please brief my question below
    1. What is your hydrogen peroxide percentage?
2.Can i use my HP 6% for my microgreens? If yes. Let me know the ratio?
    3. Is there is any other solution or homemade ideas for prevent fungal infections for sunnies and pea shoots?
Note : i have small kid and my microgreens are growing in indoor.so i am fear about fungal issues.
    I highly appreciate your reply.
    Thanks in advance

After multiple tries, ive found that a 4 hrs soak, followed by draining, rinsing, and 30-36 hrs of jar sprouting (rinsing 2x/dy) in a dark cupboard is just enough for the tips to appear. This partial pre-sprouting shaves a full 1.5 days off of the subsequent blackout time . . . and shorter blackout means less time for the fluff mold to grow.
It took 4 tries, but I finally achieved my first near PERFECT 1020 tray of sunflower shoots (from memory, I think my yield was 560 gr.
BTW, culinary tip: sunflower shoots have a special flavor affinity for Thai Peanut Sauce.
