- This video shows you how to set up a headphone mix or a cue mix to create a “more me” mix using the Control Room during a tracking session. Using a “more me” mix allows artists to hear themselves louder in the mix. Join Greg Ondo, as he leads you through the VST Connections window to set up a talkback mic, add cues and more.

Cool, i've recently played with Control Room and setup a simple headphone mix for my preamp/mic setup. It might be worth pointing out that you of course need to set relevant output channels in Control Room for the different Cue Mixes so that each player would have their own feed from your audio interface to some kind of headphone amp or similar.

That's what I was always looking for. where do I route this Cues to? Are there sends in the Cue Tab or do I have to do it in the control room?
You do this in the Audio Connections panel, and then go to the Control Room tab. When you set up the Cue Mixes you then allocate these Cue Mixes to any spare outputs (Device Ports) you may have on your audio interface.

Okay. Thank U!
Will check dis out.
Is it possible then to have multiple cue mixes when I have a headphone amp? or do I have to have each set to a different out?
Cubase Artist doesn't have Control Room. Can you still send a more me mix with effects to a headphone?
Thanks Greg - I have finally got a room set up for live recording and having not delved into the control room before (but knowing I should make the effort) this video is a really great starting point. I'm off to the studio now.
great video just what I was looking for! Thanks!
This is exaaaactly what i needeeed. So cool! Thank you Greg!
I love cubase and I love my Focusrite Clarett! this helped me so much.
THANK YOU so much to explain this! It helped me a LOT!
Thanks so much for the help, your work is amazing.
Thank you very much for the Tutorial! :)
Thank you so much. You are a rock star!
Wow. I know Reaper, Pro Tools, Logic, Audition. But Steinberg really made it comlicated af to use headphones. Nice one guys....
Thank you Greg :-)
Due to how my audio interface works, i use monitor A as my headphones output. B-D other monitor pairs. Cue mixes for reference tracks. All thanks to control room. With control rooms headphones setting being utilised on my second audio interface. It makes for lots of variations.
You just fixed my DUH moment. Lol. I have a old audio interface laying around I can probably set up just for headphone mixes. Thanks. I was thinking I'd have to buy a new interface with multiple outs...
Very Nice!
Wow! It is almost scary how many cool features are part of cubase. Is there a forum somewhere that shows only deprecated functions of cubase over the course of all versions?
you are the best .thank you
Thanks a lot !!
Dear Steinberg. More cue sends please, 4 is not enough thanks. Double would be good.
Hi Greg, thanks for all of the info! I am using a Focusrite Clarett 2pre with an OctoPre Mk2. My question is: How do I send 4 different cue mixes to 4 different channels if I have 2 stereo outputs? The 2pre only has one headphone jack. Is it possible to assign the different cues to the four inputs on a 4 channel headphone amp using this one headphone jack? Thanks.
Control room is one of the main reasons to get Cubase Pro. It also adds the listening volume knob so you don't need to touch your mix fader to change listening volume.
I would say is best to use cue mix levels in the group channels as artists often wan't less guitar or drums and you really don't want to destroy your balance everytime
An afterthought: if you activate cue on single channels they won't follow volume automation?
TY for these great videos, I am migrating across to Cubase from ProTools and stumbling. I use a Behringer Powerplay 16 channel personal mixer. In PT I utilized channel sends to send to the independent channels at unity, to allow each musician to create their own mix. I am not finding an easy way to to do this, as I must not understand the signal flow. Any help appreciated.
Cool!!!
Very Coll! Thanks! **-**
Hi and thank's. Just wonder, how you huck up from Cubase to the studio. Do I need 4 headphones amps or???
Hi Greg one question how can I use a Cue Mix for a reference track in the Control Room please?
The master meter only reflects the mix signal even when switching to the cue. Is there a way of maybe routing the cue to the master so that when you switch back and forth between the mix and the cue, the meter reading corresponds accordingly?
how do you set up a 'more me' in Cubase Artist 10.52
Hello Greg, I work with cubase 9.5 pro. I have a neve 8816 and an aurora 16 connected to a rme aes card in my pc. my monitors are connected on the neve
for you, how must i configure my cues?
Thanks
Hervé, France
It Would Be Great If This Was Updated To Cubase 13 Thanks
Is it possible to connect earphone to laptop ? I wanna record vocals with the help of audio interface but dont have those headphone to connect with audio interface. So i wanna get the output through earphones connected to laptop. Is it possible?
can i use 7.1 usb headset with cubase?
Cool tutorial!but what's the Dim button for?
It allows you to lower the volume by a specified amount in dB.
But where can I add effects to vocal in cumix or what?
Excellent video, thanks for all the help, I have a question, why is the master of my cubase always in red (clipping), I use VSTs to record drums and guitars? and in each channel from the mix console in the trip section I use a Maximizer in each of the channels since it enhances the signal and gives it more brightness, I would like to know if what I am doing is correct, regards,
You're tracking and mixing too hot. This is a common thing.. Initially get your dry signal level to around -18dbfs with the fader at unity. When you add effects etc, make sure you adjust the output of the final plugin to again give you approx -18dbfs. This will give you headroom to mix.
Why do you have a maximizer on each track? Do you know what maximizer is for? Not to set a track louder. You should youtube some how to regarding the whole mixing process.
thanks
If you haven't got into gain staging yet do check it out - it will help with these issues even with virtual instruments. I would thoroughly recommend checking out Chris Selim's excellent series. The main one for setting up your gain staging and your mix console is excellent but also check out his video on virtual instruments once you have set up the mixer.
I have the latest version of Cubase and I don't have a Studio tab. I can still right click and setup cues from the control room. My selection at the top of the interface says Studio not Devices what version are you using? Are these differences going to change how this works?
Yes, good point. This looks to be a different revision to the very latest we seem to have our hands on...
Greg - please help! Adding headphones in Cubase 10.5: I have gone to Studio, Audio Connections, Activated Control Room, added my headphone bus, Audio Device is "Built-in Audio", Device port is "1" (phones L). Still no sound in my headphones. Output tab shows "No audio connected". If I activate headphones in the Device Port, it turns off control room. What should I be doing?
What do I do if I have more than 4 musicians? Usually I use the Sends. Is there a better trick? On the same note, why does Cubase only have 4 Cues?
Thank you
You can use sends but also know that you could send the control room mix to someone in addition to the 4 cue mixes for a total of 5.
How do I assign a different mix output through the control room? Like, not "Stereo out" but say... Out's 3&4?
My routing is Stereo out, with a handful of mix plugins, out of my Apollo to my 1/4" deck, then back into a stereo channel in the session. THAT channel's output I sent to either 1&2 or in this particular session, 3&4.. (and NOT through the stereo out). I'm trying to meter the 3&4 output channel through Control Room so I can monitor my LUFS. Thanks!
how come in studio one and pro tools this takes 5 minutes to setup a cue mix and in cubase it takes 20+?
At 1:54, you added the cues but did not assign them to any device port.....and you got it working? I tried not connecting it to anything and it did not work????
I can NEVER get this to work. So frustrated.
Is it possible to send different metronome volumes to each Cue Mix? I have Cubase Pro 10.5
Generate click as audio track
Yes, each cue has its own sending volume control for click. Look at 5:28. You can set up click volume and panning for the individual cue.
@@korkenknopfus thank you
I can’t do any of this on cubase 10.5 elements
How do I mute vocals while recording I don't want to hear myself
Hello, just create a new track and mute the vocal track, clicking on the M. You can also use the mute tool.
I just wanted to plug in my headphones into my computer and hear what i recorded. But the head phones do not show up as an option. I tried different headphones and still nothing. Any help would be cool.
Hello, yes, that is not how it works, and it has nothing to do with your headphones. First you need to setup your Audio Connections and select and audio driver. We will recommend you to get an external audio interface as well.
@@Cubase Thank you for the info. Its one thing to pay for the program, but then you got to pay even more just use the headphones. What an awful product.
@@willcamick That has nothing to do with Cubase. Look into music production and you will find out it is just the way tech works. You need an interface for basically everything.
2:23 I didn't find the arrow botton
This is probably Cubase 101 but... My headphones feed continues to be routed through the main speakers in Cubase 10.5
I can mute the headphone feed or turn it down, but that the audible signal still plays in the control room speakers. What am I missing here?
I had a similar issue. I wanted the monitors muted while tracking with a microphone and just to have the playback in my headphones. I found that the solution was more to do with my audio interface and Cubase wasn't the place I could set that up. I have an Universal Audio Apollo 8p, so what I had to do was either: A) not have my monitors powered up when recording it mics or B) use the controls of the Apollo 8p interface set to "mute", which allowed the monitors to not have audio, but the headphone to still have sound played back through them. So the solution I found wasn't a setting in Cubase itself. Depending on your audio interface, that is where you will probably be able to do any muting of your studio monitor speakers. There might be a way of doing it in Cubase, but I am fairly new to using DAWs.
@@shaynes.9773 thanks for the reply, Shane. I have found a work around on my setup. I have a volume controller on my computer keyboard. When I need the speakers to be muted I simply mute the sound using the dial on my keyboard. Baby sigh of relief.
@@davidblanchard7458 Glad you found a solution! Happy recording, David. :-)
Boring / Complicated - this will not pass the time test. It should be 1 click process - not this madness. Jesus !....
Yeah it's boring, complicated and confusing - I don't need that Control Room at all (and I use Cubase since the 90s). Plus, it doesn't make your music better. I'm a composer and arranger, not a sound engineer or whoever uses that CR thingy.
