Just a heads up about the poison ivy. If Lily or Gabby were running around in that poison ivy while out there at the creek property, it is possible that y'all holding them, petting them or loving on them could have picked it up from their hair.

Be careful burning anything....trees, fence rows, piles of sticks, etc. We lived near a field and the farmer came over to burn the fence row and I got poison ivy from head to foot. Lost 2 weeks of school and had to get shots to dry it up. They said I would never get it that bad again and I haven't but what I had to go through was hell. I had it in my eyes, ears, nose, between my toes....everywhere. All from a burning of a fence row. Be careful.

Dutch, you might not know that poison ivy and poison oak are still active when they are sticks. The oils in the sticks can rub on clothing or pets or you grab it thinking it's just a stick and it's not. Hubby went to the doctor with a bad case of poison oak and the doctor told him to wash thoroughly with Fels Naptha soap bar. You can get it in certain grocery stores in the laundry isle. Wash within 3 hrs. so it can break the bond of oil on your skin and you won't get it, just wash good.

How funny my name growing up was Kathy Jo! I remember using Fels Naptha soap for laundry and poison oak prevention! In the 1950s! Be careful if you burn the sticks, stay out of the smoke, or you can get it in your eyes etc.

you have got that right, as a person who loved to go metal detecting I found my self really messed up one winter digging without gloves, I did not realize there was so much poison ivy in the area I was digging and got super exposure to the roots, had to get cortisone shots it was so bad. Another soap that works well is Dawn dish detergent, it really strips the oils away.

I would say wash and change clothes as soon as you know you've been exposed. Helps with accidentally touching other parts of your body, like eyes, face, neck with already exposed areas, like your hands.

Being around a fire that has wood. That poison ivy or oak around it can get not only in your eyes but your pores. If you're allergic to it. My oldest son was around when we had a fire burning stuff when he was younger. And he's really allergic within a little bit. He had it all over his body. His face was swollen look like he had a bad case of chicken pox or something. We had to rush him to the ER.

Prime time for fiddle head ferns also. They are wonderful and tastes like asparagus or green beans. Like morels they are a prized addition to gourmet cooking. I sure wish you have put up flood gages near the creek it would be interesting to chart the water level over the seasons. Another suggestion……free trailer base……repurpose the 5th shell base to haul logs for your saw mill. We cut our own wood and the three trailer bases we have are in use continually. I know I put a lot on your channel but we started our homestead 52 years ago and have experienced a great deal in our journey that could be helpful to you and your family or others. I feel as though we are distant Grandparents to the girls….we watch you everyday…….wishing we were young again to relive our journey.

We bought land on the Myakka River. At the head waters. It was just a creek most of the year. But about a month after we bought it; we had 20” in 24 hours. That creek went a mile wide! We canoed down to it and I put a nail in a tree. We built a cabin on posts 12” higher than that nail. It still floods about once a year for a few weeks. That cabin has never had water in it.

I can help you with Poison Ivy. I used to get it from the long eared nubian goats and hound dogs they would get it on my inside lower arms. First thing is to wash with dish soap as soon as you think you've been in it as soon as possible. If you get the oil off, you'll lesson the reaction. Then use cortisone mixed with aloevera gel. I had Dexamethasone[injectable] for my horses, so I got a mg and mixed my own. You need to use it several times a day for at least 3-4 days. It is very important to use it to stop the reaction before it blisters. You can dry it up then. Also when the itch gets terrible, and it will!!! use ICE to scratch with. The ice will break the itch cycle and stop it pretty quick. Hope this helps you, I know it always stopped mine. Also, you are always going to be more sensitive in the same area you had a breakout before, while other parts of your body might not be nearly as sensitive to the oils. So be careful when spring start it growing again. You dogs will spread it to you so wipe them down after they've been in it,

The combination of butcher block and white is awesome looking! I can't wait to see the outcome. You should be able to see from the cut banks of the creek/river/crik where the highest water flow has been, and washout from the flow of rising water. The water at the RV and the bus could be funneled away by grading the area to pitch somewhere else. Love ya'll ❤️

WOW! Those wild onions and then morel mushrooms sound yummy, I think. I've never had a morel, so I don't know if that would be good together.🤷🏻‍♀️ I love mushrooms so I'll probably like them. I've watched, I think, Arms Family picking morels on their property. They have a little stash the pick every year. Y'all have a HUGE property with probably TONS on it, along with LOT'S of wild onions!!!
That was crazy about the camper! It'll be interesting to see what a big flood will do!😳
Way cool, y'all got TONS of gravel, free just down the road for your road and up topside to help with all the mud! 👍😊👍

I watch "C'mon Homesteading" out of Arkansas and if you want to see flooding, check it out. He's homesteading up on a mountain and has to cross a stream to get to his property. That stream went from a little thing to a roaring river. They were stuck on the mountain for several days. His nephew tried to cross it and almost drowned. His truck was totaled. So I wouldn't doubt that your stream could swell up just like that too. One really needs to be careful.

You can make it crawdad farm in the wild 😁

My wife is highly alergic to poison ivy and poison oak while I am not. Back when I would hunt every year I would not always notice if I had set up my blind in contact with either one. It would make contact with my camo's while I was in the wood. I would come back home and toss my clothing in the washer. My wife would break out shortly after. So if you are going to be in contact or suspect you will then wash your clothing seperate from the household laundry.

You have some interesting happenings around you; Bobby the Family Protector, the great build, and the abandoned homestead. I like being taken a long. The abandoned land is very intriguing. I like exploring, as you never no what you will find. You have to remember that one man's trash, is another man's treasure. If you set some of that stuff by the road with a free sign it will probably be gone by morning.
You mentioned you would like to see a big flood to see how high it would get. Be careful what you ask for. Your neighbors up and down stream may not like that. Flooding could be detrimental to their livelihood. Just sayin'.

Some areas have what is called False Morels, they look just like a true safe morel but if you break the stem open they have what looks like cotton inside. The False Morels are NOT safe to eat. They are poisonous and can cause hallucinations. Some of the locals do eat them. They say they know what part is safe to eat. That's something I'm not willing to take a chance at. I'll stick with what I know is safe and very very tasty! 🍄

Hi there. I am a fairly new subscriber and I just wanted to say that your house 🏠 is really great. I really appreciate your time and effort to make this video. It can't be easy raising 3 girls, and doing videos and building your house. I'm so glad that Randy is so wonderful because not only can he do carpentry, but has helped you over on the other property. He's quite a amazing person. We need more Randy's in the world.😊

Scary thing is morels season is the start of snakes coming out of hybernation....keep that in mind...hard to see some snakes in the leaves and environment that morels thrive in. Make sure the girls keep an eye out.

Have you thought about videoing the classes and speakers for those of us that can't make it? I'm willing to pay some for each of the videos that I'm interested in. It would be a great way to make some money to help make the show even bigger next year.
They have maps that show the flood plains for 50 and 100 year floods.

You can sell some river rock. Lots of scrap metal you could sell. Your bad Sean, brandy will get you back. My niece gets it really bad, the firewood in the house, blowing in the wind. She would get it on the inside.

Poison Ivy, poison oak, don't bother me at all, unless I just roll around in it. Or if I breath it in while weed eating.
Morels are tasty! The rain should make them produce pretty good!

I was just going to say you’d probably find a lot of morels on your property. We fix ours this way. Rinse, split and soak in cold salt water. Then I rinse good and clean them good. You want to get the dirt and bugs off. I cut off any part that doesn’t look good to eat. I scramble up a couple of eggs good. I crush up some Ritz cracker crumbs fine. Melt butter, not margarine, has to be butter in your skillet. Keep it low, you don’t want to burn your butter, but you want it bubbling some. Dip your mushroom in egg batter and roll in the cracker crumbs. Make a plate full and have them ready before you start heating the butter. You can make several plates full or however many you want to eat. Fry in your butter, keep it low to medium, and cook to a golden brown on one side, turn and cook on the other side. I don’t salt because there’s enough salt in the butter and cracker crumbs. I don’t know how long to cook them, I just have my butter so it doesn’t burn and cook till their golden brown. So that’s why I say don’t get your butter so hot that it burns. Then I take them out, drain on a paper towel and enjoy with a Pepsi or your favorite beverage. Our season doesn’t start until May or June, usually when the Lilacs start blooming. We find the grays first, they’re the early ones and seem to pop up over night. Then the yellows are next, bigger and so good. Use a net back when hunting so to spread the spores around and use a knife to cut them or pinch them. Never pull up the roots. Up here in north Iowa, the first ones usually come up along the river banks. Have fun, carry a big stick and look before you pick, especially in the south. Snakes are so good at hiding in the leaves. This guy posted a video of his honey hole. He was going to reach down and pick them and he saw a movement. A poisonous snake was right there. You really had to look good to see it. Have the girls wear good boots and carry a stick with them. Post if you find any.

My wife and I love what you are doing. Keep up the awesome work and keep up the faith. One day hopefully soon we will all be with Jesus and won't have to worry about this life any longer. Remember: This world is not our home, were just passing through. Love you all and even if we don't meet here on earth, one day we will meet in that beautiful city of God. God bless
