this is simply too beautiful. you don't need 3d graphics to prove a game is of high quality. with just the right stylistic choice you can blow a super realistic 3d game out of the water

I've been thinking about what if Pokemon had Octopath Traveler's HD2D, I honestly I say you've nailed it perfectly. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this way

Wouldn't be much different since BW2 already had that blurry 2D style. The only thing that even looks good about this is the lighting.
This is like a dream come true. It's gorgeous and fits the series perfectly.
This is exactly what I wanted for a Pokémon remake. Hope this is how Gen 5 will be remade in the future. Anyway, you did a great job!

What I really like about this little project is the textures and vibe feel really in-tune with nature, especially letting the trees be that tall around the town.
Isn't it funny how around Gen 4 we all dreamed of 3D Pokemon games with the Pokemon roaming around, now 15 years later we have that, and want to go back to 2D
This clip has more personality than the entirety of the mainline 3d pokemon switch games combined. I really wish they would have went in this direction.

5 being the best in terms of everything in my opinion.... Graphics, Story, Gameplay... The pokemon roaster is a little bit lacking of BIG iconic pokemons compared to others. Still great tho.

This is the style they should have used for the Diamond and Pearl remakes!
@@raveoreynolds6049 What really makes HD2D special is mixing pixel art style and good lightning together, both which dp remakes don't do. Just google HD2D to see how it's defined

I haven’t played Pokémon for good long while but if they made a full game like this I would probably get it, it would feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time

There’s something so nostalgic about those old sprites. I noticed the pidgey on the roof and immediately felt a wave of nostalgia. All I want is a Pokémon gym management game with these graphics. Simply beautiful work. ✨

Had to look up the real thing bc I just KNEW it was an indie project but thought you might want to know.

This is the BEST art style EVER!! If this is the real deal I'm SO going to play it. The pixel art has pure "Nostalgia" written ALL OVER IT! ❤️✨😍
If the artstyle was a little closer to the artwork for the original games (more sketchbook style) this would be perfect.
They could even learn from their past games and add a difficulty option that black and white 2 had (but for the beginning, not the end) for easy, medium and hard mode. Easy being "let's go pikachu / eevee" style, medium being firered and leafgreen style (complete with a guide) and hard being the classic game difficulty.
I love this SO MUCH. My only suggestion would be to use warmer/brighter atmospheric colors. Increase the contrast so that the colors are punchier and separate. The blue tint in the overall image detracts from the bright and colourful world that is Pokemon! Otherwise fantastic job.
This is extremely beautiful and it does capture nostalgia at the heart. So, I would accept the changes if they made it like this.
Now THIS is what i call an amazing remake! This is what Pokemon really needs... to hit the nostalgia while still providing something new and exciting
this is kind of what I hope the black and white remakes look like!!! it already follows this style with the use of a 3d world so it just needs the graphical update!!

looks good. i personally would prefer a faster running speed and the character locked to only 4 directions instead of 8. feels more retro and closer to the original

This is EXACTLY what I said to my friend the other month. Game Freak should go back to 2D with the graphic style of OctopathTraveler. It would look and play amazing.
This amount of perfection is what Gamefreak thought they were giving with BDSP
I been saying for years now they need to take SERIOUS notes from the fanbase, especially new monster designs that are all over Instagram from creative artist

@@trueindividual1417 its already hard enough as it is to make a 10 second youtube clip. Making a whole game work like this will be ultra expensive. Plus lets not even touch on the fact that the graphically shitty scarlet violet struggles to run on switch imagine a much more complex design having to run real time...

Gamefreak is a company which has gained intense issues after doing a bad transition to 3D, which do not seem like they are able to be fixed with the insanely tight deadlines the developers are given (likely by their marketing department)
When Gamefreak developed their first 3DS game they decided to take that as the time to switch their development from a 2D based approach to a 3D based approach
That is a very difficult step to take if your core staff only has experience in 2D development, in a game such as pokemon which is greatly focused on its content (all of the pokemons sprites and moves) that will be an undertaking of around 5-6 years (usual development cycle is around 4 years these days)
However they only took 3 years of development to finish the game, in which time they managed to retain most of the art direction of previous games but it can be noticed their step into 3d wasn't the smoothest
While the games look ok the models are certainly not optimized and the team which wasn't able to properly learn 3d had to readapt their sprite manipulation to 3d, which lead to the creation of stupid looking attacks like a pokemon with water cannons shooting water out of their mouth
Next step is to continue that within more busy 3 year development cycles which start incorporating more and more ambitious projects like open areas
This leads to Gamefreaks developers still not understanding how to do 3D properly as the crunch times encourage them to go with what they know works, but with ambitions that include an open world (one of the hardest to pull off things optimisation-wise)
And the result are games which have to stop their shadow render distance at 10 meters, which makes them look like something pre-gamecube era when shadows were still very expensive stuff, but without looking like a style because of the large shadowclouds they decided to throw over everything in an ill-advised attempt to hide the lack of shadows
In comparision this video shows a demo of a short scene which a person was able to focus all their effort into (without having to worry about hardware limitations, deadlines or game balance)
And the end result is a really good showcase of what a good 3d artist can do
Which is something impossible to do for Gamefreak because of too tight deadlines and staff that still has to learn 3d in rough deadlines
That said while this is absolutely impossible for the current Gamefreak to achieve it is not that Gamefreak does not have experienced staff
It is just that staff has been dragged right into 3D hell without compromise right after perfecting their 2D worklflow
If Gamefreak had adjusted themselves properly into 3D they could've easily pulled off a look simmilar to Octopath traveller, and by now might even have games looking better than it running smoothly on switch
And if they properly poured some resources into it they could absolutely still do that
But it seems that the decisionmakers at Gamefreak would rather invest in using ludicrously large additions to their team to rush through ambitious projects for a quick buck (Scarlet and Violet from what I find took around 1000 people to develop, even if taking out all marketing and translation department that is more than developers which worked on Eldenring which should have had a core team of 300-350 developers)
And honestly I feel that attitude might never change and could lead to Gamefreak going bancrupt in 50 years after loosing their main audience, so in that worst case scenario it is truly impossible for them to ever do something like this, let's hopw we get the best case scenario of them taking a good 6 year devolpment cycle for a future mainline
Would be a cool concept for future remakes.

It does look really good. I can't stand that blur though and don't quite get, why every "HD-2D" game goes so overboard with it. I always just wanted to completely turn it off in Octopath.

From Gen 6 onward, I didn't bother anymore with pokemon. If they walked away from 3d and went with something like this, I wouldn't think twice about getting more nintendo hardware.
