    I live on Lake Lanier and we have the same discussions about "cheaper" fuel at the land gas pump. Most folks who have used the ethanol lace fuel have had very expensive boat engine repairs. I use the $4.99/gal fuel on the lake with 94 octane and I have 2900 hours on my boat and neither engine or the generator (3800 hours) have had any issues. I check compression and do oil analysis every spring. That "expensive" fuel will pay future dividends.

    I just drove my truck from California to Buford to get it Dealer proof. I towed my travel trailer there as well, I wanted to see what difference it would make getting the dealer proof done. It was night and day, the truck tow way better and smoother specially now with the new tuning modes. Before going up a small hills it would struggle and downshifted. Now it just cruises up hills no sweat. To bad I didn't get to meet Bill when I was there as he was out of town enjoying Mardi Gra in new Orleans. All I got to say is that I am really happy the way the truck runs now and the service. I will be taking a trip to Alaska in the summer and I am confident the truck will do great. Keep up the good work Bill and shout out to Scott. :-)

    People buy diesel-powered trucks not only for the torque, but more for the reliability. And these videos make you wonder why anybody would want to buy Ford trucks. Wow! At least we should be thankful that there are guys like him.

    • @mardamek
      @mardamek 8 років тому +1

      The Gooch Thanks, my friend. This is not just about Ford. It just seems like everything is upside down these days and people have their priorities all mixed up. And in that, this thing with Ford and the power/torque wars was just one example. The F-150 with an ecoboost engine is another ridiculous embodiment of this idea (throw numbers at people's faces and get them attracted, while distracting them from the actual concerns they should be having when making a selection).

      +mardamek I owned an 83 6.9 F-250 that i absolutely loved as well as an 88 7.3 f-250 that was also a heart warmer. But then Ford introduced the diesels with computer injected engines and it went downhill from there. You take the simplicity of a diesel and put in computer controlled this and that, you have just taken away the reason of owning a diesel. You get worse mileage, you have to TUNE a diesel (HUH? I tune gas cars not diesels) If my older trucks were not running properly it could only be ONE thing and that is the fuel/injection system as there is nothing else. Not only that but here in Pennsylvania diesel could cost upwards of an extra dollar per gallon over gas prices. Just not worth all the extra hassle and unreliability.

    • @mardamek
      @mardamek 8 років тому +1

      mark hilken Unfortunately, my friend, I have to tell you that the price of diesel costs extra over gasoline price everywhere in the country, not just Pennsylvania. It is just an old artificial thing imposed by the oil companies for preventing people from buying diesel powered cars. It's all about preventing efficient technologies from gaining popularity to continue making a buck. Same thing can be seen with electric cars and their progress.

    • @JamesTyreeII
      @JamesTyreeII 8 років тому

      +mardamek Much of the time this is true, but some places at some points, diesel and even B10, B20 or B99 costs less. Buy it if you see that!

    The tuner itself is just a delivery system. It really doesnt matter what one you use. What matters is the tuning you are installing. I switched my primary tuning supplier from dp-tuner ( still the best 7.3 tuning on the planet) to power hungry performance. Bill at PowerHungry helped us out with some innovative tuning strategies that make plenty of power but are not so hard on the head gaskets.

  • @powerstrokehelp
    @powerstrokehelp  11 років тому

    LOL back at you. In the last year both the Ford Gasket and the Victor gasket have been improved. The newest generation of gaskets weigh almost 25% more then the previous Ford gasket. That is more material to help hold all that cylinder pressure in that you guys make with all that tuning. The latest gaskets offered are almost identical, whereas before the older Black Onyx gaskets weighed a bit more than now and had one less layer.

    Bill,
    I appreciate all your videos. I think Ive watched almost all of them upon choosing an used 2005 stock 250. Primarily from your input I went all the way to Texas from SC to get the truck I felt comfortable with and was factory without the trouble signs allowing your preventive dealer proofing "as I can go".
    Where I may have missed the boat...I purchased a very popular company's aftermarker oil cooler block, minus shroud as I believe typical. As Im certain you dont care where I purchased it "CD", are you convinced enough even with proper flushing and eventual coolant filter, you would still junk it? I plan on doing an egr cooler and valve delete and was planning the oil cooler while I was in there.
    I havnt the know how nor capacity to run a check on the exsisting cooler unless I pull a Bill and cut it in half??
    Your thoughs would be appreciated if you get to this. In addition, instead of the griffin tuner I got the SCT 1505p, which Ive been very impressed with a couple of the canned tunes I think may be too aggressive with stock head studs and gaskets but I purchased primarily for the outstanding diagnostic monotoring in real time. Do you have any experience with these modules? again, many thanks for the most valuable information.

If this is also included then the pricing they are suggesting is in line. Ask them if they are replacing the dummy plugs under the valve covers and why they are removing the turbo. And see what their response is.

    Bill, for those of us who wrench on our own vehicle and don't live near you. Could you do a video centering on how the fluid bypass is done. Is there a specific point on the heads you are tapping in to the water jacket at? What size lines are you running. I understand you are a business so you may not want to share the specifics, but I would like to do this on my truck if you are able to share. thanks again for all the great info you provide.

    If you have no head gasket problems, the Basic DealerProofing may be the best place to start.

    Yes and no. It is an outstanding well engineered kit, but it is very expensive $2k+. IF you are pulling hard for long distances (think out west, big mountains, remote areas) then the Kit has real tangible value. It is an extreme solution for extreme usage. But if you are just putting around the neighborhood, a new Ford cooler, good coolant flush and a coolant filter will be all you need.

    Nothing except it allows the Oil to be too cool which causes a whole bunch of other problems. It is also expensive and the dozen or so that have come thru my shop all had leaks.

    I love videos, such as this one, that are educational. You get to advertise your business and the people that are just here educational purposes get a little bit more information to add to their catalogue of knowledge. I'm sticking with catalogue and not catalog.

    I've had slightly leaking stc fittings be baffled by the turbo during a air leak test, so I remove it, plus it makes it easier to remove Ipr and hp pump to replace stc fitting.on some trucks I recommend replacing dummy plugs and stand pipes to the latest updated versions if not equipped already because I have done stcs before and then had it come back a weak later cause a weak dummy plug let go but wasn't obvious during a leak test.so I recommend them too if they are older style

    You guys put one of these griffin tuners in my truck and I was wondering, is there any way to dim the tuner? It's so bright that I have to put a piece of clothing over it at night. Of course then I can't see it but at least it isn't blinding me.

    Hi Bill. I'm looking to get into HotShotting with a 3-car wedge trailer. I like the F-450 DRW. Would you recommend a used 6.0, 6.4 or 6.7 and what upgrades would you recommend? I'm looking mostly for fuel economy and towing power. I have no interest in making it a race car. Any opinion on delete kits for better MPG?

    I was traveling and had a coolant leak. Took it to a local shop to see what they could do. They wanted 5-7k to fix it. Ford dealership wanted 7K.
    Called Bill and talked to him. He told me how to drive the truck to his shop from DC and let them have a look.
    I got it to him fine using his suggestion. They did a diagnostic and figured out several problems it was having.
    They gave me an estimate and when I went to pick it up they charged $200 less than estimated and 4k less than Ford.

    Bill, ever thought about an EGR delete system that puts solid blocking plates between the EGR and the ports, but leave the EGR coolers in place? This way you retain the stock look (and any attachment points, if there are any tot he EGR) but get rid of functionality. It also seems cheaper than welding them shut and would allow you to revert to stock if need be. Maybe, machine the ends of the coolers so that the blocking plate fits and you dont need longer bolts??? Ever done this?

    Thank you for this video. We lived the 6.0l nightmare along with draining of the wallet. Swore off Ford trucks for a while. Somehow Ford was never accountable for the serious problems with 6.0L engine which seems to be the case with the 6.4l. In the market for a used truck, and wondering if there is a mileage marker cutoff to work with when buying a 6.4l with a salvageable engine that would allow me to do the preventative work?

    Bill, My fuel mileage is poor, I am approximately getting 300-350 miles to the tank tops. I have a 2007 6.0 Powerstroke with upgrades( headstuds, egr delete, 4 inch exhaust, sct tuner, stage 2 turbo etc..). With your expertise, what do you think the problem could be, the truck is running fine?
    thanks

    Hey Bill, I just picked up a very lightly used 08 6.4 around 1500-2000 rpm in higher gear range, I get a very slight barely noticeable vibration through the break pedal and too a lesser extent the accelerater. Any ideas?
