I can't understand why this song didn't make at least top twenty, it is superb. Fantastic music arrangement. The use of the Indian instrument ( I can never remember what they call it), was a good touch to the song as well. Long live the nutty boys.
Well it is really isn't it, I mean it's John Hasler on the drums so you can swap him on the trump cards for Mike on piano and Woody on drums, granted you would lose a shit load of top trumps points but you'd still be in the game, kind of.....haha
one of the best madness songs sounds fresh still! Shame they won't play some of this stuff live think it would sound awesome, especially thunder & lightning, nail down the days, gabriels horn etc. Love The Madness!
Bedders and Woody weren't in The Madness. Though John Hasler didn't play on the record, perhaps they just asked him to be in the video as he is a mate.
No Woody, no Barson, no Bedders... but still great !!! Even with one member left Madness will create good music. But it's good the see them all together again today !!!
Got the 12 inch single some where in the loft I found it in the bargain section of a record shop back then. Only track I think recorded as The Madness. I it was on a record label called "ZarJazz". It was there own independent Label that unfortunetly went bankrupt. They recorded another track on the label that's very rare it was a charity song for the African Famine called "Starvation" in 1885 it featured madness.Ub40 the Specials and some others it's on U Tube.
They where called the madness because Woody worked out a contract where it could only be called Madness if there was at least 6 of them in the band. So The Madness was a way of getting over legal problems.
The Madness really were a step too far for the 4 remaining members of the original line up back in 1988. Madness’s glory years were between 79-84. Even by 1984 with the release of the fantastic Keep Moving album there time was almost up. Michael Caine reached number 12 in the charts at the start of 1984 and the follow up One Better Day faired even less reaching number 17. These were two very good single releases at the time but the pop world had changed and so had musical tastes. The band should have drawn a line under it then and bowed out with their heads held high. Unfortunately they done what most bands do and solider on into irrelevance.
I first heard this tune way back in 1988. Totally gorgeous song from my teenage years.
Love this song so much, very underrated, deffo one of my faves too

sitar is indian instrument
I first heard this tune way back in 1988. A totally different lost tune from that year. Gorgeous song and a totally different song.
A beautifully under-rated song.
Bizarrely one of my favourites from Madness.
Strictly speaking it isn't, despite the band acknowledging it as an album that they made under the alias "The Madness"
Well it is really isn't it, I mean it's John Hasler on the drums so you can swap him on the trump cards for Mike on piano and Woody on drums, granted you would lose a shit load of top trumps points but you'd still be in the game, kind of.....haha
It looks like bloody madness to me!!
It's just not Madness without Dan Woodgate and his Woody Woodpecker!
also looks like the nutty boys so thats why its THE madness here
top band nonetheless
This is without a doubt one of Madness totally lost tunes from 1988. I love this song so much.
Two giants of the music industry in one vid. Love it.RIP Mr Ian Dury.
Marvellous. Simply marvellous.
one of the best madness songs sounds fresh still! Shame they won't play some of this stuff live think it would sound awesome, especially thunder & lightning, nail down the days, gabriels horn etc. Love The Madness!
One of their best songs by mile. Sounds fresh to this day. Absolutely brilliant.
I actually prefer the latter part of their career from Keep moving until they split. Favourite song has to be In the city though.
By far and away these guys' most under rated song.
The most under rated Madness song ever.
I remember dancing and singing to this tune once I got home from getting three teeth ripped out by a dentist.
we love this song very much.......the sound is great!
Great song, they should play it live sometimes.
One of my favourites love madness
I got this in 88on 12” three other to tracks on it as well
Bedders and Woody weren't in The Madness. Though John Hasler didn't play on the record, perhaps they just asked him to be in the video as he is a mate.
Top song from half of madness
No Woody, no Barson, no Bedders... but still great !!! Even with one member left Madness will create good music. But it's good the see them all together again today !!!
no chaz today
because woody got lost on the way to the recording studio :0
I would still consider this a Madness album though. By the way, did you spot John Hasler on the drums there?
lovin it
Lovely chorus.
lovely.
Thanks for that :)
Hasler was just filling in on the video (he was their manager) for appearances sake. There is no drummer on this track, it's a drum machine program.
Werent they in Voice of a Beehive at that time. I loved this Song! Still do. 'Beat the Bride'(Next Search) was the Best from this period.
Woody formed votb. No other madness members were in that band.
ever good!!!
Great tune- where was Bedders for the video shoot?
Must have been tough to get them all in the same room at the same time! :)
when you look at the video all that was missing was woody and bedford...might as well been madness what was the rangeling about anyway
this was during the short lived "The Madness" era, in which Mark wasnt involved neither was Woody. hope that explains it. great song though.
the best
i love this one!!!! a very sexy Chas in this one!!
chas was always great crack as wee irish would sayin fact i think one of parents is irish ....get your point he can carry a suit well
At 3:32, Chas' smile makes him look like a young Ricky Gervais!
I am thinking this is Bruce Thomas on bass...anyone, anyone...??
From what I heard Woody said he was not contacted to do this recording. He was pretty aggrieved at this, at the time.
Wasn't Woody part of the Voices from the Beehive at this time.
John Hasler I think
so sweet suggs never aged
The final end of the final entity that is madness...
...until now.
i want to sign it when i get married
I can't find this on CD anywhere. Did madness get into trouble over this song or something?
stufaman
No it's just rare as fuck

oh i didn’t know woody left i thought it was just mike barson ?
@@haunteddeandollsuk ‘The Madness’ album doesn’t have Woody, Bedders or Mike included!
Name the drummer, true Madness fans will know....
scotthart2 John Hasler 👌
lol supose ha ha xxxxxx
must say i wouldn say no, wvwn now lol x
search for "the madness"
I didn't realise it was about forced marriages until years later.
that was to mrhyde101
Robot Jones
wish carl would marry me!
There to good for a brit award. The best band in the world award is what they deserve. They should shun the brit awards.
Good track but the horrible funkateer session bassist and drum machine let it down. Why did Mark Bedford (bass) and Daniel Woodgate (drums) leave?
i know you arent
What female Doesnt Wish He Would Marry Them :P
No Im Not Im A Girl

Wrong. They had so many good songs released in that time. Uncle Sam is just one example
With all due respect, I think they have several good albums post 1984 and endless concert experiences.
but you are a man
Absolutely rubbish.
