I like the way Lemmy played it like a six string; treble way up high, open drones and powerchords. I think the story goes there was a bass vacancy in Hawkwind but Lemmy was a lead player, which worked because everyone in Hawkwind is a lead player.
I know it's not on the list but for me Mark Knopfler Dire Straits (Alchemy Live) was one of the greatest soloist guitar performances I have ever heard.

(I am not saying he is better or worse than any guitarist in the list *, just very different).

Van Hallen will always be one of my all time guitarist and singers. So sad to hear him pass away. Literally listened to all the records my parents had of his from when they were teenagers

Ah yes because population is the battle. You forget most of America and the UK is a mosh pit of other cultures. America isn’t metal orientated because they are too busy with litterally any other genre of music. There are so many more factors and you are just being so closed minded that you are missing what I’m saying. I’m not saying one country won, I’m saying there is more to the question than - I LiKE AmErICa So ThEy WIn or ThE UniTEd kINgDom So ThEY Win. And this isn’t bias talking either because on top of me not being american, I love the Stone Roses, arctic monkeys, etc. But I also enjoy metallic, the black keys, Cage the elephant, etc. Be more open minded. Also the UK is no “tiny little island” it is one of the top 10 biggest. And if I’m not mistaken the highest population density between the top 10 ( or if not atleast second). It’s no use trying to discuss this anyways because you will just be stubborn and Narrow headed instead giving extra thought.

True. Also if it wasn't for Britain Jimi would of gone relatively unnoticed, as America didn't want to know until Chas Chandler (also British) made him a household name. So Jimi is definitely a honorary Brit.
Jimi literally had to come to the UK to get noticed. Good old Eric Burton from the animal had him staying at his house in the town I was born Newcastle when he first started out.

I love it when you start with Hendrix on the USA side. And when you think about it, he might have been American's nationality, but all of the music he's famous for was actually recorded in the UK. Until Jimi got to London the world has had no idea of his music. Let's face it, modern music was created in the late 60's in the UK, mostly in London. So you the Yanks shouldn't brag so much about Hendrix being American. And I'm not even British to say it.
So true. Given Hendrix's love of Cream just it such a shame that he and Clapton didn't get a chance to work together.
The last time they met Clapton haf a left handed Strat he intended to give to Hendrix, I'm sure they would have worked together eventually. With Townshend, Hamilton, and Allman in that circle who knows what they would have come up with???
So much of British bands recorded in the states. That doesn't make it an American property. Both sides influenced each other immensely. And if you were to ask 60's legends on both sides of the pond they'd all tell you that American blues and jazz inspired them the most.

USA just wasn't ready for that kind of music. What I would propose to you is to watch first scene of Across the Universe movie, base of The Beatles music. There is great comparison of the same song being played in USA as simple pop, and rock version in the UK.
Even if you look at the history of music, the biggest, best, most influential bands were from UK. As a kid from Poland, I didn't really differentiate bands from USA and UK, but then as a grew older, I was shocked that almost all these great bands are British. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Police, Genesis, Dire Straits, Queen - just to name the few that quickly comes to mind. And that's just bands from the 60's and 70's.
What USA can put on the scale to oppose it? Let's say in the late 60's? The Doors, Crosby, Stills, Nash(English) and Young(Canadian), maybe Velvet Underground? Name one American band from the late 60's that came close to greatness of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, or the Who? Only The Doors comes to my mind...
