I like little projects like this. A great opportunity to try things out and test different techniques on a piece of junk that will not be missed if it all goes wrong.
I learn a lot from taking apart totally unsalvageable (at my skill level) junk and getting a feel how components go together. What tools work best in different situations. How bad can something get before I can't make any progress? It's not a waste of time if you learn something. 🙂
