Sorry guys I did not realize that Bob Terzoula was who I was talking about. I know who that is, he helped design the original blade tech lok. Also had a hand in this Civivi lock that’s why the clip is so good.

I treated myself to the Civvi Timberbark for Christmas but am inclined to agree with you. Looks great, black with green micarta and a deep belly... Kydex sheath perfect with no rattle , blade great in itself but yeah as you say just doesn't fit right or sit safely in a 'manly' hand. Damn shame realy - Fine for opening boxes at home I suppose but wouldn't feel safe taking it out on a camping trip/bushcraft woodland trip etc... Love what you do man, thanks so much and God bless you and your family.

At 1st glance, it brought my mind to ESSE, ROWEN, RATT. Feel of a competent design.

While I do not seek out knives with 3-finger handles, when they come with a lanyard hole you can always attach a square knot paracord lanyard extension for your pinkie. This works quite well in this configuration. So not all is lost for people with adult hands. :)

@ No. I took off the generic techlock and just carry it as is in my front pocket, like a traditional folder. I do have a Multi clip if I change my mind later, but this style of carry for me is so handy.

Thank you for the discount on the architect knife ! I pulled the trigger and got the 4.5 in magnet cut before they ran out of all of them, now I have all of them ,except the 3 inch .I have the 3.5 on up to the 8. Thank you again.

Another issue is that they ran it at 57-59 HRC. They usually do their 14C28N at 58-60 HRC so why did they run it softer here? Lots of fixed blades run at least 58-60 HRC with less tough steels and 14C28N is among the toughest! To answer your question, 14C28N is a fantastic budget steel overall and the high toughness makes it ideal in harder use fixed blades.

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  24 дні тому +2

What! I was on the impression they always did 58 to 60. That is odd if they did run it low like that especially for this size and Knife.

I got bit by the bug in 1990. A great many of my old knives are AUS8A and ATS34, they are almost all users and I've gotten excellent mileage from every one! We're very lucky to have today's full race knife steels but the oldies still hold some value for us!

The Vosteed Mink could have made that comparison list as well. I had my eyes on the timberbark but I changed my mind exactly because of the handle length and design. I ended up with a Benchmade steep country instead. I know it's not on the same budget level but I have better steel and design, plus it's made in the USA. Loved your review and have a great year Aaron.

I have large and long hands, small ( handle)knives are simply a no go for me. I tend to go for larger folders and likewise larger fixed blades. I’m glad you chose to review this particular knife, it’s often hard to judge the size online. I have to drive an hour and a half to get to a sporting goods store. So handling a newly released knife isn’t an option.

Appreciate your candid reviews. Civivi is a company that could easily be taking advantage of the well designed, small EDC fixed blade craze. [Kizer is an excellent company which immediately comes to mind.] I tried a different fixed blade Civivi two years ago and was not impressed. In keeping with your Yukon Cornelius theme, it now resides "on the Island of misfit knives."

I'm so excited that CIVIVI started making more fixed blades! Especially ones in 14C.. But after the Nitro-V on my Stormridge seemingly having issues taking / holding an edge and knives like this with micro handles, I'm just scratching my head wondering how this is happening after what we've come to know & love about CIVIVI folders.. 🤔

G'day Aaron, yep as a stainless lover, 14C is the one I look for to keep the cost down and I do think a good 440C and 9Cr are still worthy too. Buck's, (Bos's), 420HC has served well. Things like 12C, 1.411, Inox, AUS-8 and 8A do make good tools for certain applications ............. but you really wanna keep a sharpener handy. Incidentally, I call my ol' RAT-1, "the cake knife", because thats about all it can cut without needing a tune up ; )
Anyway on to this one; with ya mate, what a shame, they've gone to all the trouble of gett'n everything else right ; (
    Cheers Duke.

    Hiya Aaron,
In previous videos you had mentioned you have larger hands, and now you've given a knuckle to knuckle measurement of 3.25". Knowing now that my hand is the same size as yours allows me to better gauge what knives fall into the comfort zone for all four fingers being on the knife. Thanks for that!.
For the record, while it doesn't compare to most of the knives you have on this channel, my go to continues to be the Cold Steel SRK in SK5 steel.
Keep up the great reviews, and happy new year. 8)
