I hate some of the advertising they use for these. "You're not a child, you're a man, so quit wearing all those layers." Well, I am an adult, and have been for more years than I was a child. But I know that wearing layers when you are going to be outside in cold weather, especially doing strenuous activity and away from shelter (working, hiking, etc) is a good thing, not a bad thing. Being able to add and remove layers to stay warm but not too warm to where you are soaking in sweat is extremely important.
I have a heavy wool coat that is filled with down feathers and the outer skin is like a durable canvas made of hemp. The wool is the liner, but it's thick and heavy.. So it really just feels like a wool coat with an outer shell.... down feathers stuffed in between. Needless to say, it's warm. Made in the USA... Lets go boys!
It is only about 9/10. Sweetwater and Edens Garden are both good companies. When I see something pushed so hard, there is nearly always a better alternative.
My dad got me one, i didn’t like it, and gave it away, the whole companies concept is no layering only one garment, but in real world cold conditions for days on end or even hours you need layers, for years now I wear my m65 jacket “wind proof” or BDU is also wind proof and a 100% wool surplus coat underneath for insulation, you could also use a sweatshirt/hoodie, and I’ve used that setup in sub zero temperatures, and you can always take one off to cool down, or maybe one layer gets wet, you could even give to someone else just in case, with only one garment you can’t do any of that
Everyone knows that fleece is not windproof. Never was, never will be. You'd need a windproof layer for that. This jacket,as is, works well down to about 35 degrees. Add the rain/wind jacket on top of that for your windproofing. I just got one of these a couple weeks ago and love all the pockets and well thought out design.
One of the very few products I bought off YT that proved good. It’s my daily wear in the winter and at night. It’s a great jacket for air travel, as you can carry everything you need in those pockets. I think you may have ordered too close to the holidays, as mine arrived in a reasonable amount of time.
I have two of them because they sent me the wrong size the first time, they did easily correct the issue. The shipping is slow because they're coming from China, each time took 10-14 days. They are warm, comfortable, and fairly water resistant. The wind resistance is ok, but on windy days the wind will cut through them. The issue I've found with both hoodies is the hook and loop is total trash, especially around the wrist, after a few adjustments the strap will not stay in place. I have even cut off the plastic straps off because they won't stay connected to the velcro and get in the way when reaching into a pocket. I have some patches on my hoodies and they hold well, but a lot of thread comes loose after washing, even when washing with the patches in place. If they would use better quality hook and loop I would say they're worth the money. The hood is a little large and will hang down over your eyes a bit, but perfect for pulling over a hard hat.
True. Problem is, it’s a well made high quality fleece jacket. Materials are superb, and the workmanship is great. It costs a lot more than the average fleece jacket, but it is a lot better jacket.
@@JayceeWedmak What didn't you like? I was impressed enough I bought 2 for me, plus a waterproof outer coat to go on one of them, and the softshell lined waterproof jacket they offer. As a matter of fact, that jacket is the one I wear to work most days. I also bought one of the lilac colored women's fleece jackets for my mother in law and a navy Baerskin Hoodie 4.0 for my father in law.
Thank you for reviewing that jacket! I have wondered about it for my husband, who works outside. I was hoping someone would look into it; glad it was you!
I was given one of these for Christmas 2023 and I love it. Keeps me warmer than I thought it would, very comfortable and I like how it fits me, plus it has a lot of pockets
I can almost 100% say that these are made in a cheap China factory or completely made from very cheap Chinese materials. I bought a nice (like this) but a cheap jacket just like this, but it has a coat material outer shell rather than fleece. The pockets locations, sleeve cuff velcro strap, zipper, zipper pulls, the pulls on the hood and bottom, and interior pockets are 100% the same. These jackets are a dime a dozen, and you can find the exact same one or even ones with better options online for less than 50.00 USD all day. Look around and save money. I will say bearskin does get their name out there with the money they push on advertisements but don't be fooled. This exact style and material product has been out for years... for cheaper.
I bought the Rothco brand tactical jacket described here - 2 years ago. Wore it in Montana (layers), North Georgia, and Central Florida. It's holding up nicely... still looks great. Happy with it. Hope that helps.
Same. Keep seeing and hearing about this hoodie, I even work with a guy who has one but I’m glad to see this review from someone I follow. I’ve been considering getting this but the price kept me at bay. But I may have to get one for myself. I work in cold temps year round, refrigerated coolers, and this sounds like it’d be perfect.
Thanks for the review! I've been curious about this product for sometime now. I still believe it's overvalued at $100 right now. I will consider buying later if the price comes down.
I ordered one for my husband on November 15th and it arrived in Florida on November 26th. Not Amazon fast, but reasonable delivery time. He really likes it. Plenty warm, but not bulky.
I bought one last year- same color. Only issue is it gets you wet in the rain. This year I bought the rain resistant variety. As S00tch says, just pay attention when zipping up. Good product.
I agree with the customer service part. I had issues getting a response on my order. Mine has been shipped and I did order the 3-in-1. I'll come back and let ya know how that is. I ordered it in black. As soon as I get it, like I said, I'll post a comment.
Love this hoodie, bought one 6 months ago. The hoodie 3.0 version. Wear it all the time for work. Super warm, functional, and stylish. Bought another one when they had a better sale. Couldn't be happier.
I have ordered twice. First was two for my wife and i received package within two weeks. Was impressed enough to order another hoodie with rain jacked....... took almost two months.
Thanks so much for this review. I was on the fence for a while and didn’t want to order blindly in that price point. Your review has absolutely sold me and I’ll be getting my husband one for his birthday in February. I’ll probably have to order today, 😂😉 thanks again!
I can speak to the quality of the tactical hoodie. It's warmer than the average jacket made with similar materials. It's very warm and comfortable. It might be a little over priced, but not much and you are getting a good quality jacket that is very warm and comfortable.
I've had one for almost a year... One of the best pieces of kit that I have had in years. The only complaint from my wife was the lack of colour selection. It does appear that there are more colour options now.
Fell into our fish pond wearing my BearSkin, total immersion on a cool day in Georgia. Got the jacket off to hang it outside to drain most of the water. After awhile, put the jacket into the washing machine to get fish p00p off, spin dry, hung up to air dry. Works fine. Great jacket.
I got a generic hoodie very similar to this a couple years ago from Amazon for $30. I wear it daily, has held up well. I wouldn't be surprised if the same factory makes them for Bearskin. The Bearskin has more pockets, though. I'd buy it again..not so sure about the Bearskin though. I think it's just being marked up with a couple additional things added. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a 100% identical, same manufacture generic version.
I did too. I tried to find the label of who made mine, but I didn't find anything on it. My "no name", doesn't have as many pockets but I like it a lot.
That is precisely what is being done. You or I could reach out to the main manufacture of these, if we had the money and say we want 500 hoodies with this emblem or design done and make them our own brand of hoodies. It's extremely common more than people know
Exactly what's happening and likely why they are so slow to ship lots of orders. They're doing the hard-core, big media hype-up with the advertising we see everywhere and charging double or more from comparable and having them built once the order hits their target goal. If I can duplicate the weight of the microfiber, the rest is easy as there are so many on Amazon that are likely built by the same mfg.
I’ve owned a few of the og Baerskin 1.0 version of this jacket for ~5+ years now. I purchased them as a three for ~$65 each. For my boys and self. I have no complaints. They are not 5.11, First Tactical, nor First Spear, etc, but they don’t have the same prices, nor the intended duty expectations. I was skeptical when I purchased the original version, but I’m still happy with the purchase that I made years ago. The boys outgrew their Baerskin 1.0s, I still use mine regularly with no complaints. That’s probably why I don’t jump at the latest versions, even though the updated and upgraded features look attractive. I still use it as a standalone, or layer it with an outer layer.
Stormproof fleece! Nice jacket Sootch. Lighter-but-warmer appeals to me more and more as I age. I could see all those pockets turning this into a true bug-out hoodie!
I love mine. I got the fleece jacket and the raincoat combination. These zip into each other. Where I work I walk from building to building a lot in the winter and if it starts raining or snowing I need the extra protection. I work as a custodian and the furnaces in my dorm hallways can't keep up if the students are opening the doors to get in or out. It keeps me warm for sure.
I got mine last year, and I LOVE it. The pockets ar amazing to have. Ladies, you can easily fit most essential items in the jacket and leave your bag at home. I was somewhat skeptical about paying the cost, but after seeing a friend's hoodie, I was sold.
I've had one for over a year. I gave one to my GF and ordered another one. Outstanding for Tennessee fall and mild winters. I recommend it. I just ordered the raincoat.
I ordered one December 3, 2024 and received it January 5. I agree 100 % with everything you said. Warm, comfortable, great fit, 10 pockets! It was just a slow shipping process, but I'll have this fleece jacket for many years, so no biggie.
Is this site real? I've ordered on the 8th of December 2024. Ordered was confirmed. Money was taken from my account for the purchase. Up to present i have not received a tracking number. There's no customer service number i can call for assistance. I see this as really unfair to me. I purchased this coat because I needed it. And not receiving it, nor any information in regards to it, it's unfair to me. Can someone help me please?
They are real. They are overwhelmed with their orders. I emailed them three weeks after I ordered, with the same issue. It took them another 5-7 days to respond, but they did. I eventually received my jacket, maybe 5-6 weeks after I purchased it. It is a nice jacket. But it was made in China, if that matters to you.
I have a Bearskin Hoodie and another similar one from Amazon, that looks almost exactly the same, for half the price. There are a couple of minor differences that make the Bearskin a wee bit better. The Bearskin is overhyped, but even at $99 is still a reasonable value, and I really like it. You'll do well with either one, but some people want the brand, others care about the price!
I have mine now for like 6 months. It took about 2 months to come in. I did call many times. Finally got through. All they say is it's out of stock😂😂😂😂 but I'm happy with jacket overpriced yes but still like it
I have had one since October 2023 and I really like it. It is pretty wind resistant until the wind is over 35 mph in my experience. I have worn it in temperatures as low as 25 degrees F with just a long sleeve t-shirt and was comfortable. I still think it is just a touch overpriced but that is really my only complaint aside from the obnoxious ads on YT.
I bought one last Christmas, same color, I live in Pa. It gets cold here. Absolutely the best hoodie I own hands down. It keeps you warm and comfortable, it's my go to cold weather apparel.
Any of the Military Surplus warehouses have German Army cammo winter jackets, These are made for being out in the extreme weather in central Europe. With a starting point of 35.00 dollars depending on the condition. Still better.
If you want a good wind resistant coat just get an M-65, and for colder weather, just get the liner for it. But you are right. Military surplus equipment is the way to go. Not this hyped up crap.
My only gripe is the velcro wrist needs some help I've had mine a little over a year I live in southern Indiana and only once last year did I have to go to my heavy jacket instead of the hoodie. Thinking about getting one of the rain jackets and the newer 4.0 and handing the 3.0 down to my oldest
I could really have used this hoodie a few years ago when I was still shooting outdoor matches and would nearly freeze to death in the wintertime. I may get one anyway just because I like the way they look. Your recommendation means a lot to me. Thank you, Sootch00.
The problem with the velcro wrist strap is that you can not dry your fleece in a dryer. It will melt the plastic, therefore not letting the velcro stick again. I have a similar jacket with the same velcro design, and the plastic won't stick to velcro. Other than that it looks good I wouldn't mind having one. Just don't put it in the dryer to dry.
Customer service is really bad!! I have been trying to get in touch with them to return one for a different size, It's been about 3 weeks and they haven't answered me as of today!!
Great review. I got my wife one for her birthday, a couple months ago. She likes to wear “hoodie” jackets. I got the one for the 2 piece hoodie/ raincoat (4.0, I think) She loves it, and it blocks wind good with the raincoat part on. November and December have been cold here in Virginia, so she has left them together or worn a thicker coat. 20 degrees generally calls for a bigger coat, if you are going to be in it long. I’m not really a “hoodie” guy, but they seem to be well made.
I was bombarded with their ads for the longest time. Once about 2 am in the morning i caved in and ordered one. It took weeks to get as it came on a slow boat from china. ( with tracking) It is now one of my favorites. I do not have the model shown. But its close. It is definately wind proof as i tested it against other fleece hoodies i own. I like it. I would buy again.
Thanks for reviewing this hoodie! I know we’ve all been inundated with their commercials for their product line on UA-cam! You’re the first I’ve seen do a review on it! We appreciate you Sootch!!!👍🏼
Couldn't really justify the price, but my father-in-law got one for Christmas. Seemed really nice actually, he was in the same boat wondering if they're worth the hype. So far he's loving it though. Time will tell, he tends to tear up his stuff pretty quick so we'll see on the durability.
I purchased one a couple years ago, version 2.0. It has held up very well. It has all the same pockets yours does plus a large pass through pocket on the back with zippers on either side, sort of like an upland game bird hunting vest. My sleeve closures are made of the same fleece so they are soft. Not sure why the switched to plastic. That seems to me uncomfortable if you sleep in it like I do mine. In fact, the only complaint I have about the 2.0 is that it uses a female zipper. Not sure why they did that. I have lost a bunch of weight since I got it and now it is very bagger on me. I asked them if they did alterations and they said no.
The GSM referenced at 4:50 is grams per square meter. It is a measure of how heavyweight (and warm) the fleece is. The higher the number the more warmth retention. A lightweight hoodie is about 200 GSM, a year round hoodie is about 250 GSM. This hoodie is 340 GSM, so pretty heavy and warm. It might be too much of a good thing for temps above 50 degrees.
All I can think about is how much static electricity that would generate. My body is a freaking battery, it will store electricity up until I touch a door knob, car door, wife's bits😂 and then WHAMMO, it's like touching a spark plug wire that's not completely seated on the plug.
I bought an full length Ausie duster with button in wool liner in 2020. It's water and windproof and keeps my legs warm also. It'll probably last me the rest of my life!
I agree with your assessment of the product. This was a good and fair review. I'm also glad you pointed out the shipping time. It took six weeks for me to get mine. I've only had mine for a couple weeks now, and so far, no problems. The only other thing to note is you will be bombed with spam to by more stuff from them.
Nice review I have both a 3.0 and a 4.0 with the Rain Shell living in northern Ohio I have found that I can wear this more than 90% of the time I don't think I even took out my heavy winter coat last year just wore this with a thermal shirt and was plenty warm.
I bought one for myself - love it. Bought one for my son - he is impossible to please, and he loves his. Bought the full set for his wife this Christmas.
I live in the Midwest and I bought the rain jacket that attaches to the outside of this jacket ur wearing basically for shoveling snow. It fits very nicely when it’s combined.
I bought one of these like 3 years ago. It was expensive and not actual wool, and it doesn't keep you dry in the rain .ine is falling apart. The front pockets have wholes in them now and find loose threads all the time . But they are warm and windproof, but that's about it.
I wear the men’s version ( small ) instead of the women’s. Looks great on me. I’m not crazy about hoods, but the hood on this is very comfortable, I actually use it. The pockets are great! I love the arm pockets, I find I use them the most. Wear this when it’s colder with a thin vest underneath. I own 3 now😹😹😹
Check the tracking. Last year my jacket arrived in two days. This year it took more than a month and the tracking was more than a page of international check points.
@@OvcharkaShepherd DO you know what shipping method they use? I just received my tracking numbers, but I can't find any info using those numbers. Thank you!
Absolutely love the review Don I was wondering about this jacket I'll go check it out. I've been subscribed for years and love you videos but my favorite part is the bloopers at the end😂😂 keep up the good work brother
I have the same one, given to me as a gift. My only caution is if you're carrying on your belt, you have to be mindful of the waist bungies when drawing and reholstering. Never used to think about it until I watched some YT's about AD's when the bungie-tightener gets inside the trigger mechanism. Pretty unlikely, but apparently it has happened. Other than that, the hoodie is solid and warm as heck!
I got one in 2023 and I do like it. But I was passed when I saw the new version with the attachable shell because mine is definitely not wind resistant over a gentle breeze. Paird with a water proof shell I stay very warm.
Scotch thanks for your information and opinion on this product. I've been seeing them for a while and was skeptical on it. Now I'll get one from your help.
I have one. The only 3 things I don't like are the hoodie lid, it's floppy on mine and looks like an after thought. It needs under arm zippers/vents. And the zipper on my coat is not the best. Possibly I got a lower quality, or not quality controlled jacket? 🤷
I've seen those silicone cuff fasteners delaminate on other jackets. They seem to be glued together lengthways. Yes, they can be repaired with fabric glue, but they don't seem to last.
I bought the exact same jacket on Wish (made in China) 6 years ago. I believe it was before Baerskin even started selling them. I still wear mine winter camping.
I bought one a while back. It is warm. But, the zipper was on the wrong side, and the teeth were small. When i put the hood up it falls over my eyes if i dont have my hat on. For my self i prefer the fleece hoodie from warrior tactical, its a lot better, and warmer. If needed i can put on my wool jacket from Guide gear.
My only complaint is atay away from sparks if you have a light color.. any sparks.. it will leave little black dots all over it where it burns the fluff.. other than that.. perfect.. they did take off some pockets from 3.0 in the 4.0 version... i liked all my pockets... Raincoat work great too
Got the bomber jacket and first day the cuffs started to fray from rubbing up against the Velcro. Stepped out into a light rain and started to soak through almost immediately. wouldn’t recommend.
I got one a for Christmas I’ve been wearing it daily since with a light hoodie under it it’s awesome here in north west PA . Ive worn it down to the mid teens it’s great love it
I'm not sure why one would go with this option over a mil-surp ECWCS Polartec. Only advantage really to the bearskin is the hood, but the usual price difference makes more sense to just get ECWCS off ebay or surplus store if they aren't gouging for those also.

It's extremely common more than people know
Yah I have one like it that’s Duluth trading company. It’s been great but it doesn’t have the hood. But it was half the cost when I bought it.
Same here. Only difference is the hood doesn’t have a draw string, which is kind of odd. But it is very warm.
Well done video! Excellent presentation, great in detail and the length was just right! Keep up the great work.😊
Stormproof fleece!
Merino Wool. Get a t-shirt, get a vest sweater, get a long sleeve sweater, over those, even a light flight jacket will work down to 20F.
I ordered one December 3, 2024 and received it January 5. I agree 100 % with everything you said. Warm, comfortable, great fit, 10 pockets! It was just a slow shipping process, but I'll have this fleece jacket for many years, so no biggie.
Hey you. I ordered since on the 8th of December 2024 and up to this time I have not received any tracking information on the order. Is this site real?
@asinheaven thanks so much for your help.
Ordered mine on December 5th and still waiting. :-) thanks Sootch!
ordered 3 on 12/12/24 still waiting! left 4 voice mails and 4 emails.... NOTHING!!!!!
I have mine now for like 6 months. It took about 2 months to come in. I did call many times. Finally got through. All they say is it's out of stock😂😂😂😂 but I'm happy with jacket overpriced yes but still like it
Wonder if it is wind resistant?
NO! I bought one, and it's about wind resistant as a screen door in a hurricane.
Was wondering about these... Thanks Mr. Don!
My wife and I bought 2 of these when we went to Alaska in October. They were great with a long sleeve T-shirt. Vary warm.
So, not waterproof, right?
Not at all.
My only gripe is the velcro wrist needs some help I've had mine a little over a year
I live in southern Indiana and only once last year did I have to go to my heavy jacket instead of the hoodie.
It's a polar fleece zippered hoodie. It's made in the same factories (with the same features) as a Columbia or L.L. Bean polar fleece hoodie.
Customer service is really bad!! I have been trying to get in touch with them to return one for a different size, It's been about 3 weeks and they haven't answered me as of today!!
In general, their shipping has gotten better- my first one 3 or so years was slow, the next 2 were more timely
I have one. Yes, shipping took a while. I like it. Going to test it this next week with the winter storm.
I was also skeptical after seeing FB ads but love mine! I can only imagine the newer models are even better!
I think for people that live in the southern states, it would work . If I get one , I’ll add the rain cover too . Thanks
A1/4 zip grid fleece and soft shell jacket will be comfortable well below freezing even in light wind .
They are great, I have two pairs with the rain gear. A must-have .
All I can think about is how much static electricity that would generate. My body is a freaking battery, it will store electricity up until I touch a door knob, car door, wife's bits😂 and then WHAMMO, it's like touching a spark plug wire that's not completely seated on the plug.
Pics of your wife's sparking bits or it didn't happen! 😂😂
I bought an full length Ausie duster with button in wool liner in 2020. It's water and windproof and keeps my legs warm also. It'll probably last me the rest of my life!
You never mentioned washing the hoodie…did it shrink? Did the color bleed at all? Thx Sootch!
I own 3 now😹😹😹
I purchased both the hoodie and attachable rain jacket and I am very pleased with the tactical look, feel and comfort!
I appreciate you saying it’s worth the wait. I ordered the 3-in-1 on 11/28 and I’m still waiting for it to ship.
Check the tracking. Last year my jacket arrived in two days. This year it took more than a month and the tracking was more than a page of international check points.
@@OvcharkaShepherd DO you know what shipping method they use? I just received my tracking numbers, but I can't find any info using those numbers. Thank you!
I tell everyone about mine. Spent the money for me and wife. My absolute favorite to wear. Highly recommend. Worth every penny imo.
Nice review Don ! Always wondered what they were like . Looks like a better refined version of the millatary fleece jackets .
Just bought my second and one for my wife. I have the rain jacket and it works also.
Great review of a fabulous product; I also bought this jacket n also the rain jacket. Both are awesome.
Thank you for sharing this! Not just another ad.
Brother, thank you for your review! I've been eyeing these for almost a year but, it was a YT add, so I was skeptical. 😄. You da man!!!
Glad you covered this. I was seeing it everywhere!!
Thank you for your video. Action shots showed how the fabric lats and reacts to movement. Worth my sub sir.
Got mine on sale when they first came out. Maybe they're out of price range now. It works, but on the coldest days I layer up anyway.
I have been seeing youtube recommend and mention this hoodie at a constant rate...solid review...👊
E!!!!
