Totally broken and unbalanced in Trilogy, has the worst fatality in the entire franchise (his uppercut fatality is fucking horrible,) he's barely got 3 special moves, he's only been playable 4 times in 15 released games, and he's consistently ranked as one of the lamest characters by various media outlets. Fuck Rain, weakest ninja outside of Chameleon.

He got better when the MKX comics fleshed him out a little more along with his appearance in the MKX story-mode and before that they were fleshing him out a little in Armageddon. But what really ruins him are his fans. Rain is seriously underwhelming in every aspect and his fans want him to be DLC when we only have 6 slots available that would be better used on characters like Fujin, Shujinko, Onaga, Blaze, Havik, Motaro, Reiko, and maybe a guest like Spawn or Doomguy. Rain had his chance already, it's kinda selfish to want him again.

One of the things I love about MKX and also MK11 now is that the characters look like real people, and it reminds me of the digitized actors from the OG trilogy

I have an IMMENSE soft spot for Mortal Kombat 4 because not only was it the first MK game I played, it was also the first video game I ever played. I was 3 or 4 when I played it. It's pretty goofy but that's why I love it, the endings are the best, especially Jarek's ending. Out of these 3 games MK4 is still BY FAR the better game, I don't find MK4 to be complete trash, it's certainly not the worst thing out there
I have a soft spot for MK4 too, and that wasn´t my first one at all. I think it´s just hip and cool to hate on MK4 nowadays. *bad voice acting*, but reptile´s slithery voice in MK4 beats the new coarse angry voice they gave him in MK X(beats the design too in my opinion). Every strike landed, the opponent would scream in pain, in fact, the hose spraying sound effect can only be noticed by ignoring the agonizing screams of the fighter being ripped apart (they barely do that in the fatalities nowadays). In the very least sounds and voices should be a mixed bag, not straight out bad. Then there´s the screams of someone being tortured in the soundtrack, the game over endless pit, the majority of not-at-all-happy-endings. The entire game is like a picture screaming *agony*... it´s fine if people don´t like it, but c´mon... that´s awesome.
@@serphence8566 I Agree on Reptile, I actually like that design, of course there is nostalgia bias for me, but I do think its better than some of his later designs, like Deadly Alliance,. My favorite Reptile designs are classic human, MK4 and MK Shaolin Monks, hopefully if Reptile is DLC or one of the 2 unlockable characters for MK11, he will have a classic human ninja skin, like how Scorpion and Sub-Zero have a classic inspired costume

4:56 I don't know if it was the same on consoles but on pc there was a cheat code for doing fatalities the easy way. You just go into options menu hold 2 buttons(block and run?) and you could enable all sorts of modes. For easy fatality mode you just pressed down and low kick and he'd perform it.
I'm actually really like Sub-Zero Mythologies. When i first played it, this game kicked my ass, but the game concept, graphics, soundtrack and atmosphere, it's really grown on me, so i kept practicing. Eventually i mastered controls, jump timing sections and fighting system. I even drawn the maps of levels, checking every single pit for a secret, marking those places on a map so i could restart this level with full credits and easily complete it with every bonus item on the map picked up.

MK4 was great. It was a phenomenom. I was hooked on MK ever since I played 2 in the arcades. I saw the release of MK4, and the huge hype behind it. I remember walking into the arcades the day the MK4 machine arrived and it was surrounded by a sea of people. Seeing those 3d graphics, the amped up violence. I distinctily remember people cheering the first time we all saw the countdown ending on the Continue screen, and Scorpion falling into the spikes. A year later I got a MK4 on my psone, and I played the shit out of it. I know a lot of people who are more used to modern gaming might find it strange, but things like ultra-realistic graphics and good voice-acting weren't really that important to us back then. They were more like a nice extra. ESPECIALLY for fighting games. Of course, by the time MK4 came out, there were other 3d fighting games that blew it out of the water (Tekken, for example), but it was still cool to see those characters we all grew up with in these huge 3d models, performing way more elaborate fatalities, with different camera angles and stuff. The game hasn't aged as well as the classic trillogy, but for those who were there when it came out, I'm pretty sure it has a special place in their hearts.
How goes the process of suffering through Defenders of the Realm (the animated mess of a series) and Conquest (that live action messy show focusing on ancient Kung Lao and his underwhelming friends)?

I get the feeling that the guy presenting may have made some comments towards her that did not make the edit, or otherwise did something that offended her. From the clip at the end it's clear that she's either really committed to playing the character as a stone cold bitch, or that she really fucking hates the guy with the microphone.

Honestly, I loved Mk4 back as a kid. It had such an unsettling vibe with creepy music and disturbing moments like Shinnok's face melting, living trees moaning in the background or that game over screen that everyone remembers. Cutscenes were fine, on par with what other games had back then and much more entertaining than still images with text . Most of the new characters were indeed very forgetable, but I disagree with the story being bad. If anything, it was interesting to see so many characters being killed in the cutscenes. It made you wonder who was gonna make it out alive in the end.
MK4 was a weird mix of dark and silly. You got Shinnok's face melting one minute and being "flushed" down the portal to God-knows-where the next, complete with the appropriate sound. You got bone breaker moves that made you cringe with the realistic sound effects, and then some fighters yell "OOHI'MGONNATHROWYOUOVERTHERE" when they literally throw their opponent on the other side of the arena. You have somber ladder endings like Liu Kang's, dark ones like Shinnok's, and ridiculous ones like Jarek's... Yell of Pride™. You could argue that it's series tradition to be dark and silly since at least MK2 with the Friendships and Babalities, but MK4 for me was the point where the silly started to clash with the dark. Its tone was all over the place.
Yes, MK4 was in 3D because of peer pressure. MK3 was highly criticized for not making the leap, even though Virtua Fighter 1 looked like ass when it came out. It was still revolutionary for its time.

@@serphence8566 I Agree on Reptile, I actually like that design, of course there is nostalgia bias for me, but I do think its better than some of his later designs, like Deadly Alliance,. My favorite Reptile designs are classic human, MK4 and MK Shaolin Monks, hopefully if Reptile is DLC or one of the 2 unlockable characters for MK11, he will have a classic human ninja skin, like how Scorpion and Sub-Zero have a classic inspired costume

4:56 I don't know if it was the same on consoles but on pc there was a cheat code for doing fatalities the easy way. You just go into options menu hold 2 buttons(block and run?) and you could enable all sorts of modes. For easy fatality mode you just pressed down and low kick and he'd perform it.

I'm actually really like Sub-Zero Mythologies. When i first played it, this game kicked my ass, but the game concept, graphics, soundtrack and atmosphere, it's really grown on me, so i kept practicing. Eventually i mastered controls, jump timing sections and fighting system. I even drawn the maps of levels, checking every single pit for a secret, marking those places on a map so i could restart this level with full credits and easily complete it with every bonus item on the map picked up.
I know that mythologies has a lot of problems and an incredibly hard difficulty. I like the game and the idea of these side stories
The endings of the characters in this game is like wizard of oz on crack. "Reptile asks for something??" No!! Lol

MK4 was great. It was a phenomenom. I was hooked on MK ever since I played 2 in the arcades. I saw the release of MK4, and the huge hype behind it. I remember walking into the arcades the day the MK4 machine arrived and it was surrounded by a sea of people. Seeing those 3d graphics, the amped up violence. I distinctily remember people cheering the first time we all saw the countdown ending on the Continue screen, and Scorpion falling into the spikes. A year later I got a MK4 on my psone, and I played the shit out of it.
I know a lot of people who are more used to modern gaming might find it strange, but things like ultra-realistic graphics and good voice-acting weren't really that important to us back then. They were more like a nice extra. ESPECIALLY for fighting games. Of course, by the time MK4 came out, there were other 3d fighting games that blew it out of the water (Tekken, for example), but it was still cool to see those characters we all grew up with in these huge 3d models, performing way more elaborate fatalities, with different camera angles and stuff. The game hasn't aged as well as the classic trillogy, but for those who were there when it came out, I'm pretty sure it has a special place in their hearts.
How goes the process of suffering through Defenders of the Realm (the animated mess of a series) and Conquest (that live action messy show focusing on ancient Kung Lao and his underwhelming friends)?

Honestly, I loved Mk4 back as a kid. It had such an unsettling vibe with creepy music and disturbing moments like Shinnok's face melting, living trees moaning in the background or that game over screen that everyone remembers. Cutscenes were fine, on par with what other games had back then and much more entertaining than still images with text . Most of the new characters were indeed very forgetable, but I disagree with the story being bad. If anything, it was interesting to see so many characters being killed in the cutscenes. It made you wonder who was gonna make it out alive in the end.
MK4 was a weird mix of dark and silly. You got Shinnok's face melting one minute and being "flushed" down the portal to God-knows-where the next, complete with the appropriate sound. You got bone breaker moves that made you cringe with the realistic sound effects, and then some fighters yell "OOHI'MGONNATHROWYOUOVERTHERE" when they literally throw their opponent on the other side of the arena. You have somber ladder endings like Liu Kang's, dark ones like Shinnok's, and ridiculous ones like Jarek's... Yell of Pride™.
You could argue that it's series tradition to be dark and silly since at least MK2 with the Friendships and Babalities, but MK4 for me was the point where the silly started to clash with the dark. Its tone was all over the place.
Yes, MK4 was in 3D because of peer pressure. MK3 was highly criticized for not making the leap, even though Virtua Fighter 1 looked like ass when it came out. It was still revolutionary for its time.
