I’ve just realized that Deadpool is a lot like comedians. Deadpool acts happy and cheesy but he’s actually depressed under his mask and jokes. Like Howie Mendel said, comedians’ jokes come from a dark place and uses comedy to ignore the darkness
@@GaiusIntrepidus the problem with deadpool is that he's literally aware of that fact that he's a comic character. Couple that with the fact that hes pretty much completely invincible and its hard to make actually struggle
@@wannaseemywoody422 He's aware, yes, but he doesn't treat or perceive the other chracters, aswell as the world he lives in and his backstory and the mistakes he did as not real. Everything, to him, is real in a way.
I actually found out about Deadpool through Marvel ultimate alliance when I was younger and just liked his gameplay and style which quickly turned him into my favourite marvel character
I knew him from the comics. Wish there were more people that knew him before the games and such. I know at the end he says basically what i said except i dont bitch about it im glad hes more mainstream which means more memorabilia for me. So that is not being superior its just me knowing for a long time and being able to see him finally get the love he oh so deserves.
Yes I really like Deadpool 2 it's one of my favorite comic book movies now. Ok there's one dubstep joke and couple more comic jokes but, overall it's better than this shit out of game. I'm giant Deadpool fan and long time ago when I first saw this game it was cancerious to me (I was 6 years old) My friends said this game is amazing, but this is the only time they saw Deadpool. People see Deadpool as such a asshole these days, man fuck this game
Honestly that is the reason I refuse to watch the Harley Quinn Abington series, because I feel it's just going to be this just female Deadpool. The media got Deadpool wrong because of this game. I wanted The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Deadpool. I wanted The Gautlet Deadpool. I wanted Secret Secret Wars Deadpool. We got this.
@@colonelkenpachi5009 yeah i was fooled by the first movie but by the second one i realized it was just ryan reynolds being his usual sucky self fr n i remembered reading his comics n there being more to him
@@bironjames9948 yo I’m a few months late with this but watch the Harley Quinn series. The whole plot is her getting away from her abusive relationship with joker and growing as her own character.
I interpret the game as being all in DP’s head - it’s his “happy place” he goes to where he doesn’t have to deal with the forces that shaped his life: even the very first scenes in the game are about DP trying to negotiate the details of creating a game - the game we play is ultimately the product of the events of the first scenes.
Exactly. I made a similar comment. He calls out that he's designing the game. Even jokes that he hopes they don't do the tragedy behind the comedy. It feels like it's all in his head to escape.
Deadpool according to the comics: a tragic and nuanced character using humor as a coping mechanism Deadpool according to the movies: a sarcastic crazy person with a heart of gold underneath the mean spirited attitude Deadpool according to the game, cosplay conventions, Hot Topic, the internet, merchandising, and the overall general public: that Taco Tuesday shirt I rarely wear
And all three depictions have all been used at the same time, by the same writers during various runs on the character, especially Gerry Duggan's run on Deadpool. That's the beauty of Deadpool really.
Some people don't get that the 4th wall breaking comedy is just one part of Deadpool. It's not all there is to him. He's a guy who got cancer, volunteered for what he thought would be a cure for it and it instead left him scarred and his healing factor constantly battling with the cancer cells in his body. The cancer ravages his body and mind, his healing factor repairs the damage and the cycle starts all over again. He's also a mercenary who gets paid to kill people. And unlike Wolverine who the Weapon X project scientists planned to make into a brainwashed supersoldier Wade Wilson was just considered a failure and thrown away.
I think Deadpool from the movies is now my favorite incarnation of him. The comics are good but damn the movie Deadpool is the type of guy I’d want to hang out with
My favorite DP story is when he saves a girl from taking her life by hanging out with her for one day and at the end he drops her off at the hospital, that story really shows his human side and how tragic he really is because he understands her mentality more than anyone.
My favorite is when he practically adopted a girl after he was sent to kill her abusive father, he decides he cant make her like him and leaves her at a group home with all the money they earned together as mercenaries, then he gets a phone call two weeks later that she killed herself so he buries all the money with her and vows to be better because "Were family"
This is the best way to break the game down- It’s a good representation of Deadpool’s sense of humor, not Deadpool as a human being. It nails his sense of humor, but makes his sense of humor his entire being, which we know is not even close to him. It gets facets of Deadpool right, but incorrectly makes those facets his whole being. Now, I’m gonna give credit to Nolan North for nailing the character he was given in the script, because he does a hell of a job, but that’s about it. The game is basically a comedy routine, which it does well, but they’ve yet to get the REAL character
12:40 Actually, I was introduced to Deadpool because of that one really good Lego set, and mostly learned about his goofy side from Lego Marvel Super-Heroes.
Does anyone realize that deadpool has been raped and has been tricked into killing the woman raising his daughter? He has been through some fucked up stuff.
I actually learned about Deadpool from the first Ultimate Alliance game. He did break the 4th wall at times, but I swear he never once shouted "Chimichangas!". That game was much better in terms of dialogue and character analysis from a side mission than the entire Deadpool game itself. I hope Insomniac does that same kind of justice Peter Parker deserves in Marvel Spider-Man..
It's kinda sad that a game that wasn't even about Deadpool is more accurate than his standalone game. Case in point: when you reach Valhalla and go into the dining hall, you can talk to Deadpool. When you ask him about how he got his powers, his tone immediately becomes serious. He even explains that he only makes jokes to cope with his situation and that he only wears his mask because he is afraid of judgement due to the severe scarring on his face. Like, what the fuck?
I also first learned of him in UA. Admittedly I first assumed he was just another generic one dimensional, stoic character based on his name and appearance...until I played as him. Boy was I wrong! Afterwards I researched him and subsequently became a huge fan
So glad I listened to your "hear me out!" at the beginning because I'm the exact person who needed to hear this! As someone who comes from an anime/manga background, my first experience with this character is purely through movies and UA-cam clips. But I want to get into the comics and become a "real" fan because he also speaks to me on a deep level too. Thank you, fam!
I found out about Deadpool through Ultimate Alliance but never decided to check out the comics until 2011. At that time, my friend informed me that a Deadpool game was in the works and it should be coming out soon. I then flocked back to comics (I went on hiatus for quite some time due to costs) and began reading up on Deadpool. From his 1st appearances in X-Force to his own series to his involvement in Secret Invasion, I was quite well-read on the character. By the time the game was on store shelves I was an avid Deadpool fan. I wanted to see the merc with a mouth get the limelight in his own game. When I did play it I was utterly confused. It was like playing a parody of Deadpool that ignored every character building moment in the comics and replaced it with dated memes. I sought my friend for an explanation, thinking that they changed the character somewhere in the comics, but he said there was no instance of such a change. At least, not until AFTER the game came out. It seems that the writers ended up capitalizing on The Meme with a Mouth and wrote many oneshots and cameos of Deadpool that rung closer to the video game version, something that pleased newcomers but upset longtime fans. It's been a strange road for Deadpool these past several years but it seems these movies wanna steer it in the right direction.
To be fair It was better than most marvel animated movies we have gotten Certainly better than the avengers game Which is actually kinda sad if you think about it The Deadpool comics were, at their core, about having fun The game wasn't great, but I had fun playing 🤗
No Its an experienced Bomb-Squad. Bomb Squad is 23 years old in the PS4 game. It's not even really an original story but an adaptation of Brand New Day, which I dont have a problem with. That story captured Spider-Man pretty well.
Really interesting perspective here, Xavier. I won't disagree with anything you have to say here -- it's really well done, and I have incredible respect for your thoughts, and am disappointed that we disappointed you when I worked on this -- but a couple things I'm not sure you considered: 1) Like it or not, "Memepool" played a huge role in the reason Deadpool was popular enough to warrant a game to begin with -- it was probably THE reason. (At the time the game was greenlit, a movie was only being talked about, not a sure thing.) So that's what we had to deliver. Giving people what was perceived to be what they wanted trumped a deep character study. 2) As for story and writing, note that there are more names than just Daniel Way in the credits. It is very rare that the majority of writing is actually handled by an actual top-tier comics writer. That said, I think the writing was again playing to point #1, and I contend it succeeded at that. I also found your Spider-Man 2099 anecdote interesting. I think if you had asked the same question in your tweet about pretty much any 2099 comic book cover, you'd have gotten the same answers of blue/dark blue. Compare to something like the symbiote suit or Superior Spider-Man, and it looks like a blue suit with black shadows, not the other way around. Anyway, keep up the great work. I love your perspective.
It was really nice to come across this video, not just for the further understanding of Deadpool's character and the game itself, but the fan aspect made me feel very introspective. This year, I've become a major fan of a game, thanks to its relatable aspects and compelling characters at the forefront and seeing your own relation to Deadpool since you was a child is great and proves how strong of an impact the character has made on you. I feel that, despite being a young adult now, the game I like will continue to be a significant part of my life in the same way Deadpool has with you. So thank you for your own introspective look into Deadpool, as it helped in my own.
This game was hardly the beginning of memepool. A lot of people who followed Deadpool before Danny Way took the helm have been saying the same stuff you're saying about Way's portrayal of the character since he started writing it. A lot of Deadpool fans were turned off from the game when they found out he was writing it because "oh god it's just gonna be more Waypool" and yep, it was. But whatever, I like that too sometimes.
then why would it use deadpool then and even try having an excuse of a story if it'll show a whole lot of missinterpretations about those sections being presented in the game... the guy did say the jokes, commenting and gameplay were cool and fun, it was obviously designed for that, none disagreed, but all the other stuff that happens to be also put inside the game are another story.
@@Alex169o what? im just completely disagreeing with the game being just designed to have fun playing it, while it integrates aspects from pre existing media (deadpool and storytelling) to just give them poor representation...
That isn't what I said, can you read?. I said you shouldn't be popular for unpopular opinions. To get popular for something you have to do/have a lot of it. If it gets to the point where all of your opinions are unpopular then you're just a contrarian moron.
I don't really think the game ruined deadpool There's a lot of versions of deadpool the game the comics and the movie This deadpool(game) focuses on more comedy and whackyness while being random just like deadpool Deadpool(movie) is similar only he is more serious compared to game deadpool but he still remain as himself he was just more of a smart ass I guess And deadpool(comic) is more serious out of the two while making jokes and being hilarious here and there Probably with that tho is that in comics there's a lot of different types of deadpool each being different and unique in some way shape or form So although I agree that the story could be better I don't think deadpool(game) ruined his image but hey that's just me But can we all agree that when deadpool(game) was slapping wolverine a lot while he was unconscious was funny? That scene was perfect haha
It's weird to say I've grown up with your channel because we're so close in age, but I'm a senior in college and have been watching you since middle school.
Fantastic video brother. This is something that has been bothering me about Deadpool's post-comic media representation the whole time. I actually do enjoy this game and the films. However, everybody has seriously missed out on the real conflict of Deadpool's character and what makes him so compelling to me. He isn't just some comedian, super assassin Ferris Bueller. His comedy and extreme inability to take most things seriously is more a result of incredible trauma that he has tried to far remove from his own psyche. He's actually really damn tragic and his mental state really reflects that. The jokes and 4th-wall breaking are fun, but also illustrate how deep he has tried to push his past behind him mentally, and when we actually get to see him in serious and vulnerable moments, it makes them even more impactful. I wish the tragic aspect of his character was more explored and even known about. The movie showed some of it with his "origin". However, by the end of the story the tragedy is pretty much entirely lost. Again, thanks for pointing out how massively mischaracterized he has actually been in the mainstream.
Thank you for reminding me of who Deadpool really is in the comics. His sad emotional side, going beyond being a joke, and as he said so himself having layers, and currently his desire and capability of intelligence, creativity and becoming a hero makes me love him even more, as a TRUE and SMARTER DEADPOOL FAN. He’s probably one of the best Marvel Superheroes I have ever seen, while still maintaining his status as the Anti-Hero.
Xavier. Thank you. Even though I love Marvel, I've never been a fan of Deadpool. I thought he was a joke. This video pointed something out to me. I never knew this side of the character. Thank you dude. You actually taught me about something that I thought was stupid. I'll have to look into him some more.
Larry Cress I was exactly the same way. I knew about him in Ultimate Alliance and in Ultimate Alliance 2 he admits that his wisecracks are to hide his pain but when I saw this game I thought that it was something they never revisited and then hated the character.
Personally I wish the game took it self more seriously and had an actual story while also being comedic and having some 4th wall breaking but not over the top. Also I wish the games comedy could be a lot more clever like the films. Also I think Taskmaster should've been one of the villains in the game.
I agree with you, and I just want to ask: how would taskmaster work in the game? Would he just copy some of the moves that you’ve unlocked in the game, or would he have a unique move set? I’m genuinely asking
Jaden Glanton oh yeah, whoops. Forgot about that. Although, is it just that he can’t _predict_ DP’s moves, or that he can’t predict _and_ he can’t copy DP’s moves? I’m not entirely sure about that.
14:14 Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Hold on a second there...! One-Punch Man is NOT a "joke character", either! He is also a character suffering from the same kind of identity crisis misconceptions you were just complaining about with Deadpool! One-Punch Man is a guy suffering from depression. He attained ultimate power to the point that he can defeat pretty much any opponent in one punch, and it's left him dissatisfied with the results of his initial aspirations to be a hero. He finds more enjoyment from the little things in his day-to-day life that his own hero duties get in the way of. What makes matters worse for him is that he's considered a con artist by most of the in-universe society, as people think he's some kind of faker leeching off other heroes efforts to stage villain takedowns. Definitely the key moments that can be seen in the animé are when he punches an asteroid and when he curb stomps The Sea King. He's actually not unlike Spider-Man. He saves lives constantly, but is still outcast constantly as some kind of menace. He succeeds in external conflicts effortlessly, but they tend to bring about internal conflicts that he struggles with every day.
@@incognitofool6516 being a parody character doesnt make him also a joke character. The ANIME is meant to be more comedic then the stuff it parodies like DBZ but Saitama is not a joke character because of this. He is a well written character that shows the interesting perspecitve of "what if the protag of an anime was at their maximum potential from the very beginning" like if goku could go ultra instinct as soon as he landed on earth as a baby.
Lmao no. Hes literally a joke character for a fact by it's very definition. Hes rne most bare bones generic character on the planet on purpose. Dont even try pretend hes anything more. He isnt. Even the damn author has said so. Hes just a way to watch a power fantasy play out to make fun of how simple minded you people are as far as shonen goes. He was not trying to make anything remotely deep at all. Hes nothing like deadpool. He is literally just "strong guy wants to fight and punches things hard cause he the strongest." that's his ONLY character traits.
And you are so so reaching as far as those "character traits" you're seeing things that aren't there. He goes through zero arcs throughout the entire series so far. Hes always the same person with the same handful of emotions. Like Peter parker, hahaha. Oooookay.
I have to say, when it comes to Deadpool I don’t think of him as a “joke character” but I do find his humor endearing, and THAT’S what I like about him. Let me explain: Deadpool has a lot of bad stuff happen to him, but instead of giving into the tragedy and either becoming an edgy soulless pessimist, he dose what a hero dose and rises above it in his own way and literally laughs it off. It’s not that he’s ignoring or deflecting his issues (in fact he often dose the opposite), it’s that he doesn’t let it get him down and either flips the tragedy on itself or exposes it for the trash that it is *without* a rousing hero speech (which I do love too). Now granted I’m not saying he shouldn’t, doesn’t, or can’t have his moments of emotional weaknes; that’s ok from time to time and it lets us know when stuff or he is getting serious (serious as in something big is coming/happening), and honestly I’d think a little less of him if he didn’t have those moments. BUT he doesn’t stay in that place or let it cripple him (forever) *and he cares and still cares.*Deadpool doesn’t survive, he lives, and THAT’S what I love about him (crassness and anti-hero status aside 😏). He’s everything Joker wants to be or is trying to be so much so to the point where Joker himself looks like the cheep imitation. Humor isn’t his escape, it’s his truth, and honestly we can all learn something from that.
finally, someone who isn't fucking blind and actually knows the character for what they really are, a struggling superhero trying to earn the people's love and respect
I completely understand what your saying, however, if you remember the ending and the beginning of the game, it shows deadpool is playing a game about dead pool, and how the game is underfunded and being stupid on purpose. So wouldn't it make sense, that the game is stupid on purpose and is only trying to make deadpool badass and funny and popular. So in a way the writing is brilliant!
If you were in charge of introducing the deadpool character for the first time to a huge population of the earth and your introduction would likely frame how they believe the character to be in the comics and what they associate his image with, would causing widespread misinformation and damage to the characters quality control in media portrayals be considered a brilliant introduction?
Kevin Bacon no, if you make crap with a self aware character (who is already self aware beforehand) then in the context this is deadpool making a game about deadpool it makes sense. he wouldnt want people to see that side, its not cool. he would want to be as cool as possible.
15:53 - It's not so much that he's not smart enough to walk there on his own, it's just they wrote him to lack the attention span to listen to Cable telling him where to go. Still bad writing.
Ok, I hear you're argument. But consider this context. This is a video game written BY Deadpool in the story of the game. Not a standard comic book where he knows he is a character this is Deadpool putting on a show for us the player, because he wanted to be in a video game.
Saitama is a character who's bored with life. He's so strong to the point where life offers no challenge for him to overcome. Nobody can kill him, not even himself. All he has now is a hollow life with no objectives and he's a perfect representation of what might happen when one made it to the top. All this interesting character layers, and you wrote him off as a joke character who's just there to be funny? If you want people to take the characters you like seriously, at least make sure you took the time to understand the characters you're trying to write off as a joke.
While Saitama has a tragedy, he has no goal to pursue, meaning no character development. That's why so much attention is given to other heroes, because there is nothing to tell about Saitama. That's why Saitama is undeniably a joke character.
I feel some of the same pains that you address. I was introduced to Deadpool by a very close friend who is a true Marvel fan that I’ve known for over 25 years. In the late 90s I was going through not very optimistic treatment for stage 4 cancer and when my friend visited me he decided to change his nickname for me to Deadpool. I got pissed at first because I knew the colloquial meaning and use for the word and I was quite insulted. Then he showed me the Marvel character and I became hooked, a complete fanboy. I’ve read everything I can get my hands on or in front of my eyes that has to do with Deadpool along with being a total merch fiend. Don’t let others dictate your happiness and especially do not allow them to inflict their unhappiness upon you. Good luck and as long as you’re not harming yourself or others have as much fun as possible.
I hope your treatment was successful. Take care, stay safe and God bless you, your friend, all your and your friend's loved ones and the whole world. Amen.
The first 30 issues of Deadpool's standalone series really held a respect for the character that no one spamming horseshit memes has the capacity to recognize. He is shit on from all angles, so much so that his main love interest is Death. Even sad clown doesn't quite feel accurate, it's more like he is just trying to take any enjoyment he can out of life because he can't kill himself.
Nope. Loved this game. Loved every minute of it, loved all the "this is a video game" jokes, loved the hate for the metric system, loved stabbing the bad guy in the ass (what do you mean no twists, clones are awesome). It was a genuine great time and I really hope they make another one.
WOW, you really impressed me with this video, I first discovered deadpool by the movie and like many others i thought that he was only "a joke", but now after i saw this video i went to read some comics about him and now i think it is one of my favourite characters in all the comics, thanks to showing me that deadpool is not simply a joke ,and also i really liked your video ( Sorry for any mispronuntuation, is because i am spanish)
14:21 Oof, I don't know if calling Saitama a joke character aged poorly or it's just a lack of understanding of his character cause while he does possess a greater level of nuance and depth to who he is now compared to who he was 6 years ago, he was always deep and nuanced from the get-go, the first episode literally explores his existential torment of never truly getting what he worked for and desired as well as his concern for his growing distance towards emotion and humanity as a whole.
@@FizzyPopVevo So he expects others to carefully analyze characters and accurately understand them, yet he isn't willing to do the same. Tell me how that isn't blatant hypocrisy.
Saitama isn't just a joke character. His gimmick in-verse is that he is so strong that nothing in the universe is capable of challenging him and he beats most things he fights without trying and with a single punch, but that's not all there is to his character. He does actually have some depth and complexity to him and, just like with Deadpool, there is a more tragic side to him. I know this is an odd thing to comment on, considering it's one throwaway reference in a 20+ minutes video, but I felt I should explain it due to it also being a common misconception about his character. The rest of the video is great, BTW, and I agree 100%.
funny when he's mad at people not knowing Deadpool the same way he did, and ironically think saitama is a joke character. asking people to research, but he's lamely did the same with OPM. making his whole argument sounds like a hypocrite lmao
@@lloydau3610 I while he’s presented as the joke character, I think in the show is actually very subtle, saitama was really lonely until Genos came around, It’s just that he’s presented as more upbeat and middle of the road that it really catches you off guard when you look into it
I wonder if I should praise this guy for being passionate about Deadpool, or rant about how he's just as bad as this game by calling Saitama "One Punch Man" and referring to him as a joke character when he's one of the more nuanced characters in the superhero genre.
Louis Cohn one punch man is overrated, I could simply make a character and say he can kill people by simply looking at them and boom, an op character is born
I'm guessing that you've already heard the arguments about why Saitama works as well as he does, and I doubt anything I say will change your mind. Being overpowered is indeed Saitama's greatest weakness, thought I'm guessing you already know what I'm talking about since you watched the anime or read the comic. ... Right?
Saitama isn't a nuanced character. Sorry. I get that him being stupid OP is satirizing most shonen and superheroes, but that's not nuanced. He is really bored with life becuase no one can compete. Yet is so strong no one ever recognizes his true strength? He failed the exam and is now only a C-Rank? Even though he's far beyond everyone else. Their is satire, and then there is this stupidity.
As someone who is an avid comic reader i actually thought they did a pretty good job on the game theres alot of different ways they write his character and so far between the game the movie and his cartoon appearances they write differently in each one. It would be pretty hard to make a movie or game that portrays all of deadpool the tone would be all over the place
I agree with so much of what you said, but I don't find Daniel Way's comic run much better than the game. Both have no character depth, serious representation of mental illness, and try to make Deadpool actually insane (personally, I feel like Deadpool has Borderline Personality Disorder. It fits a lot of symptoms good writers imbue him with). Thank god for Gerry Duggan bringing him closer back to the Joe Kelly days of character depth
I thought the game was one of Daniel Way's better writing efforts of Deadpool. I loved the game. His run overall was mixed for me. Some great, some not. And I certainly don't think Way made Deadpool popular.
16:08 The player shouldn't care. Since the first minute Deadpool treats the whole game like a simple game plot and make fun with it.. It was never meant to be something serious or important for him.
Augusto Knight That makes sense but his point about ruining the public perception of the character still stands, and I would argue that at the time the only people who were fans of the character knew him from the comics and wanted to play the game with the character from the comics, besides by that logic wouldn’t he always be acting that way because he knows he’s in a comic book/movie/tv show, I’m not trying to be a dick but I don’t see how you missed the point, he’s complaining that the game was sold to DEADPOOL fans on the fact that it’s a DEADPOOL game, but then DEADPOOL isn’t acting anything like DEADPOOL, that’s not even to mention the fact that 95% percent of his jokes are swear words
Carl Bloke Tbh I never played that game, by only I meant the vast vast majority of people Edit: Somehow I forgot he was even in the game but they didn’t really have much depth to his personal story but they nailed his sense of humor in Ultimate Alliance
Although I do agree with this video, you didn't mention his appearance, in Mavel Vs. Capcom 3 which is most gamers introduction to him and where people started seeing him as a joke character. You could say the same for Ultimate Alliance but MvC3 seemed to be where he started sinking into the mainstream as meme-pool.
Can we at least agree that the movies are probably the best interpretation of the character? The humor never really sticked for me when reading the comics, and the game overdoes it way too often.
Yeah I've been reading comics since I was 13 (mostly spawn, x-men and new 52), and this may be an unpopular opinion but I sometimes prefer the comic storyline than the movies
Dawg. You got points here dawg. But fr deadpool can be silly as shit. Half the time its just an act to keep people off his trail. The comedy and shit is just a mask for his depression. The game was good for what it was. But yeah it was a pretty 'eh' portrayal.
Wait a minute, when you're taking about games without story at 11:04 and you mention Minecraft, you put up an image of Minecraft: Story Mode. Was that intentional as a joke? That's what I think
I love the reused character models. It's exactly like how liefeld was too lazy to make new character designs, In the comics a basic villain is either cable or a deadpool with a new color pallet.
It would've been cool if this game had a similar limb detachment system that was in the game Neverdead. Having Deadpool flop around without his legs while trying to fight off swams of mooks would've been kind of neato. Maybe have some enemies armed with explosive weapons to make situations like that more common.
People who say "stories don't matter in video games" need to realize that the developers disagree with that statement. If they didn't, they wouldn't put a story in their game.
A lot of people say that, actually. Especially in the more "nostalgic" circles. People who only enjoy the third and fourth generations of gaming and criticize the fifth for "focusing so much on graphics and story".
Living Jojo Reference The two games you mentioned have stories that are the best in showing charisma. Hell , the last Doom game has one of the most charismatic characters in a videogame without needing to say not even one word.
YES I agree, the movie does a better job at showing Deadpool's emotions and that he use to feel bad about his appearance, about his scars/marks from the cancer. Deadpool IS a silly guy and does make jokes, but there's MORE to him then that. Heck he even only says the word Chimi changas because he likes the word, not the food
I just got the significance of you using Nine Inch Nails' Closer in the end. That song's supposed to be about a broken man,who can only find solace in sex and wants someone to "fix" him. But because of the "fuck you like an animal" line, everyone thinks it's "hehe dirty sex" song, which Trent Reznor hates.... a lot like the whole Deadpool situation...
I am so fucking thankful for someone finally understanding my problem with the ‘modern’ Deadpool. Not enough care has gone in and is now pushing a false narrative of the character that ISNT the character we grew to love. It has honestly alienated me so much as a fan because everyone just acts like you’re an idiot or you’re a ‘special snowflake’ for not liking how he’s written and portrayed in current media. Deadpool has so much more to offer and it’s so sad to see him turned into just a fucking meme
@Cvlt_moon oooofff you’re cringey as hell 😬😬 I didn’t know people still commented on peoples shit just to try to argue I thought that was like a 2005 thing only 😂😂 clearly you’re insecure or upset about something if you felt so put off by a comment about DEADPOOL that you decided to go revert to 4th grader jokes 😭😂 I’m so sorry for you, just know life does get better man. Humor also gets better- don’t stick to your mom jokes my guy 😔
The only reasoning I could see for the bad representation of Deadpool is because Deadpool himself made the script at the beginning of the game. I don't think Deadpool would want people to know about the dark stuff he went through if the game were to be released. I'm not saying that redeems the game or writing, it's just the only reasoning I could come up with.
2:33 I loved that game! I still remember staying up all night playing it over and over. I think Ultimate Alliance suffers from Prototypes problem where the second one has better graphics and more outsider friendly, but they miss the firsts charm, and that extra stuff for the devoted or knowledgeable.

That was a great movie.
And yet both movies left me with a bitter taste in my mouth

I interpret the game as being all in DP’s head - it’s his “happy place” he goes to where he doesn’t have to deal with the forces that shaped his life: even the very first scenes in the game are about DP trying to negotiate the details of creating a game - the game we play is ultimately the product of the events of the first scenes.
Exactly. I made a similar comment. He calls out that he's designing the game. Even jokes that he hopes they don't do the tragedy behind the comedy. It feels like it's all in his head to escape.
💯💯💯💯
I mean, the context is it’s literally Deadpool playing his own game so yeah.
Deadpool according to the comics: a tragic and nuanced character using humor as a coping mechanism
Deadpool according to the movies: a sarcastic crazy person with a heart of gold underneath the mean spirited attitude
Deadpool according to the game, cosplay conventions, Hot Topic, the internet, merchandising, and the overall general public: that Taco Tuesday shirt I rarely wear
And all three depictions have all been used at the same time, by the same writers during various runs on the character, especially Gerry Duggan's run on Deadpool. That's the beauty of Deadpool really.
dbzfan22 true
Some people don't get that the 4th wall breaking comedy is just one part of Deadpool. It's not all there is to him. He's a guy who got cancer, volunteered for what he thought would be a cure for it and it instead left him scarred and his healing factor constantly battling with the cancer cells in his body. The cancer ravages his body and mind, his healing factor repairs the damage and the cycle starts all over again. He's also a mercenary who gets paid to kill people. And unlike Wolverine who the Weapon X project scientists planned to make into a brainwashed supersoldier Wade Wilson was just considered a failure and thrown away.
great comment

It’s a good representation of Deadpool’s sense of humor, not Deadpool as a human being.
The funny thing is that Daniel Way knows why Deadpool stopped using the teleporter, because Deadpool brings it up in a comic that Daniel wrote.

MrToast107 I learned about him from the secret invasion series

Really interesting perspective here, Xavier. I won't disagree with anything you have to say here -- it's really well done, and I have incredible respect for your thoughts, and am disappointed that we disappointed you when I worked on this -- but a couple things I'm not sure you considered:
1) Like it or not, "Memepool" played a huge role in the reason Deadpool was popular enough to warrant a game to begin with -- it was probably THE reason.

I don't really think the game ruined deadpool
There's a lot of versions of deadpool the game the comics and the movie
This deadpool(game) focuses on more comedy and whackyness while being random just like deadpool
Deadpool(movie) is similar only he is more serious compared to game deadpool but he still remain as himself he was just more of a smart ass I guess
And deadpool(comic) is more serious out of the two while making jokes and being hilarious here and there
Probably with that tho is that in comics there's a lot of different types of deadpool each being different and unique in some way shape or form

That's why I love Deadpool myself! I try to hide my chronic depression through humor and sometimes push the bar(like deadpool) to cope

SpiderFlash 1273 he can’t copy Deadpool’s moves due to how random and erratic he is so he’s jus have his own moves

@@bobdylan1968 wtf fuck, NO! Dude has character traits beyond "I'm stronk!"
I have to say, when it comes to Deadpool I don’t think of him as a “joke character” but I do find his humor endearing, and THAT’S what I like about him. Let me explain:
Deadpool has a lot of bad stuff happen to him, but instead of giving into the tragedy and either becoming an edgy soulless pessimist, he dose what a hero dose and rises above it in his own way and literally laughs it off.

Special Operations Broadcasting the whole game is Deadpool has a script of how it's supposed to play out
If you were in charge of introducing the deadpool character for the first time to a huge population of the earth and your introduction would likely frame how they believe the character to be in the comics and what they associate his image with, would causing widespread misinformation and damage to the characters quality control in media portrayals be considered a brilliant introduction?
guy_of_steel well, people got good with him this way, soooooooo,😕
Special Operations Broadcasting So if I intentionally make crap, it’s okay?
Kevin Bacon no, if you make crap with a self aware character (who is already self aware beforehand) then in the context this is deadpool making a game about deadpool it makes sense. he wouldnt want people to see that side, its not cool. he would want to be as cool as possible.

Ok, I hear you're argument. But consider this context. This is a video game written BY Deadpool in the story of the game. Not a standard comic book where he knows he is a character this is Deadpool putting on a show for us the player, because he wanted to be in a video game.

But death is his love in the comics too that's why Thanos Cursed him with immortality (NOT regeneration)
Nope. Loved this game. Loved every minute of it, loved all the "this is a video game" jokes, loved the hate for the metric system, loved stabbing the bad guy in the ass (what do you mean no twists, clones are awesome). It was a genuine great time and I really hope they make another one.
i loved the game too
Friis Forge if u liked the comics this movie was literal THE ABSOLUTE BEST
If u think the clone shit was a twist then u haven’t read a single issue that mr sinister is in
They made one for the ps4
@@batman.7945 no....no I haven't lol
WOW, you really impressed me with this video, I first discovered deadpool by the movie and like many others i thought that he was only "a joke", but now after i saw this video i went to read some comics about him and now i think it is one of my favourite characters in all the comics, thanks to showing me that deadpool is not simply a joke ,and also i really liked your video
( Sorry for any mispronuntuation, is because i am spanish)
14:21 Oof, I don't know if calling Saitama a joke character aged poorly or it's just a lack of understanding of his character cause while he does possess a greater level of nuance and depth to who he is now compared to who he was 6 years ago, he was always deep and nuanced from the get-go, the first episode literally explores his existential torment of never truly getting what he worked for and desired as well as his concern for his growing distance towards emotion and humanity as a whole.
IKR in the show he has so many beautiful moments, even his entire arc is learning to appreciate life again
Calling Saitama a joke character...well, at least now I know this tool doesn't remotely believe in the stuff he's preaching.
@@mattpace1026 I mean, he does, he just doesn't understand Saitama specifically, he gets Deadpool.
Considering the context of the anime, he IS a joke character like Arale
557deadpool read season 2 of the manga
Sounds to me like he hasn't watched the series at all.
asycore his range is comics not anime calm down
I'm digging the new intro
You predicted Deadpool 2 with that dubstep joke
Not to be THAT guy but One Punch Man is more complex then being a joke character.
He is
@@Benisman64 He definitely is, for sure. His struggles of depression, lonliness, and poor bonding with his friends are always very interesting to see.
Being overpowered is indeed Saitama's greatest weakness, thought I'm guessing you already know what I'm talking about since you watched the anime or read the comic.
...
Right?
Jeff You clearly haven't seen opm then
No Future nope, read the manga
Saitama isn't a nuanced character. Sorry. I get that him being stupid OP is satirizing most shonen and superheroes, but that's not nuanced. He is really bored with life becuase no one can compete. Yet is so strong no one ever recognizes his true strength? He failed the exam and is now only a C-Rank? Even though he's far beyond everyone else.
Their is satire, and then there is this stupidity.
Hang on a ding dong dinker minute, this aint the spider man guy. Where are my sandwiches content?
DrBaka kyle? plox

That is the greatest thing I've ever seen.
I agreed
He also has adhd, which is why he doesn’t follow the plot at all, and why this guy thinks he’s dumb.
i've heard the gerry duggn run is also divisive for fans
He's insane because he knows he's a fictional character
The of Lord Memes that are Dank well people also got to know DP in Marvel vs Capcom 3 but yeah I agree
Carl Bloke Tbh I never played that game, by only I meant the vast vast majority of people
Edit: Somehow I forgot he was even in the game but they didn’t really have much depth to his personal story but they nailed his sense of humor in Ultimate Alliance
I used to be one of those bandwagon fans, then I started reading the comics and I was like: "oshit, this is some pretty dark stuff with actual depth."
Yeah I've been reading comics since I was 13 (mostly spawn, x-men and new 52), and this may be an unpopular opinion but I sometimes prefer the comic storyline than the movies
@@wolvieinactive not that unpopular some stuff is just better than the comics
20:26 - “oh shit maybe I do have Aspergers” me 3 years ago lol
Dawg. You got points here dawg. But fr deadpool can be silly as shit. Half the time its just an act to keep people off his trail. The comedy and shit is just a mask for his depression. The game was good for what it was. But yeah it was a pretty 'eh' portrayal.
Gotta love the timing when Xavier says "Fuck no" and Deadpool shoots himself in the head
Wait a minute, when you're taking about games without story at 11:04 and you mention Minecraft, you put up an image of Minecraft: Story Mode. Was that intentional as a joke? That's what I think
Aditya Seetharaman ikr how did he not see it said "minecraft story mode"
The point is that even neither game has a story. So technically, it is a joke.
I noticed that too Aditya
Minecraft story 0. Story mode story...also 0
I love the reused character models. It's exactly like how liefeld was too lazy to make new character designs, In the comics a basic villain is either cable or a deadpool with a new color pallet.
robbie liefield??
It's really sad how people see Deadpool they don't know what makes him good.
Erm Opinions.......?
I actually liked this videogame and this version of Deadpool more than any other, and no one can take that away from me.
No one's trying to
I think the story was purposely supposed to be bad
that's fucking dumb
That doesn't make it less bad.
That sounds so dumb. 🤦♂️ no obviously they didn’t want to make the story bad. What the hell would be the point in that
557deadpool Is what you are.
Purposefully bad is still bad
It would've been cool if this game had a similar limb detachment system that was in the game Neverdead. Having Deadpool flop around without his legs while trying to fight off swams of mooks would've been kind of neato. Maybe have some enemies armed with explosive weapons to make situations like that more common.
"You can Have games without story"
*Minecraf STORY MODE pops into the screen*
LoL
Fan of the character since '91. Absolutely right that modern writers miss the heart that early writers created.
People who say "stories don't matter in video games" need to realize that the developers disagree with that statement. If they didn't, they wouldn't put a story in their game.
uknownada who says that, I've literally heard no one say that
A lot of people say that, actually. Especially in the more "nostalgic" circles. People who only enjoy the third and fourth generations of gaming and criticize the fifth for "focusing so much on graphics and story".
uknownada The creator of Doom and Devil May cry would argue against that
So? Just because one game works without a story doesn't mean a game with a story doesn't.
This why I subbed, he understands how the characters of Bomb- I mean Spiderman and Deadpool are supposed to be.
19:40
GodzillaM: Hides guy name so it dosent get hate
Also GodzillaM: Responds to the comment with the guy name and not censored
I just got the significance of you using Nine Inch Nails' Closer in the end. That song's supposed to be about a broken man,who can only find solace in sex and wants someone to "fix" him. But because of the "fuck you like an animal" line, everyone thinks it's "hehe dirty sex" song, which Trent Reznor hates.... a lot like the whole Deadpool situation...
Who else got into deadpool from hulk vs wolverine
me
Vibe Tv i read the comics
"Oh, yes. As in, 'Oh, yes. You're going to die!' BANG! Click-click."
i've been into DP since 06
I first learned about Deadpool from X Men Legends 2 and than Spider Man Shattered DImensions.
@Cvlt_moon clearly you cared because you commented 😂😂😂
@Cvlt_moon u still replyin tho , you’re sending mixed messages lmao
Who hurt you
@Cvlt_moon did you really just use a your mom joke in 2021 😂😂😂 my man you’re like 20 years late to those jokes
@Cvlt_moon you must be really fun at parties; and I mean that entirely sarcastically
13:22 to be honest, you dressing up in a costume for this segment was great
I hate Memepool... Thank you for putting it in a video like this, I love Deadpool
Memepool is the new Minions of Facebook.
Hey my guy have any comics that show the sad side of dp I know little of the sad side and want to know more
My introduction to deadpool was through Marvel ultimate alliance 1
