I was in college the first time I discovered UA-cam. I spent three hours on the library just searching for band performances. I couldn't believe how much content was so easily available that I had never seen. The Mars Volta were one of the bands I explored.
It’s been a long time since I watched this. Being at one of their shows was a dream of mine and this one with my best friend nailed that dream. What an awesome group of dudes, fans and great venue. So happy to be dancing down below and hear this song live finally! Thanks for the video to remember the moment by!
At The Drive In was big back in the 90s and early 2000s. There's a lot of history here - the singer Cedric and lead guitarist Omar formed a band called The Mars Volta after ATDI split up. Then came Antemasque a decade-ish later. And now we have At The Drive In once again.
Nostalgic, epic.... Been covering their songs many years ago.. Brings back the memories... Everytime we play their songs in a gig we try to match the intensity in the way they perform and it was epic...
They paper over the cracks cleverly, firstly taking the song a semi tone down from the original, Cedric not performing certain shouts he used to do thus preserving his voice, and not leaping around as much as they used to. It’s actually a pretty decent rendition of what they were capable of doing twenty years ago.
"IF YOU DONT KNOW WHO THE FALL IS....................YOUVEBEEN LISTENING TO TOO MUCH HIP HOP AND HEAVY METAL." very quietly before all that... cedric says to himself "i'm wired, can't you see?" uh, yeah cedric, we can see. you just tried to rip your face off from the inside of your mouth in the last song. furthermore, not only can we see, we can very much HEAR that you are wired. heheh. in all seriousness i love that big day out performance, and all of cedric's youthful bravado and pretentious idiosycratic asshole qualities. what can i say. it charmed me, no sarcasm.
i also say this with no sarcasm that at that age i really did have no idea i was listening to too much hip hop and heavy metal until cedric told me i was. damn.
Saw Beartooth, Underoath, and Bring me the Horizon the day before. Got into Terminal 5 and I was like "I gotta see ATDI sometime soon" and I looked on google to see where they were playing and they were playing the next day! I was pissed!
Bustamoo hardest thing is restricting mic gain. If you can adjust on the phone or the phone does it for you it’s great. Distance from the front helps too
Practically everyone in this comment section is a drag. Glad to see these guys doing their thing in any and all capacities. Glad they are buds again. No time for critical negativity from couch surfers.
Thanks so much Sam for uploading this video! I used to listen to Vaya a lot back in the school days. Those songs are as fresh now as they were in 90s. Did they play anything from Vaya on that show? I would love to see that!
Yup you were right. nothing off vaya. Not much off in casino out either - just napoleon solo. Would have gone nuts if we got pickpocket, alpha centurai, for now we toast, chanabra... but either way, such an awesome show. I waited 13 years for this, it did not disappoint.
bearvsshaan I remember hearing Proxima Centauri for the first time. What an awsome song! I hope they will visit my country for a concert soon and play some Vaya stuff

This isn't Mars Volta you fucking tard it's at the drive in which was far better than the dogshit that was Mars Volta
@@bigdoinks69 are you Jim ward ? Haha
Well regardless of what the other guy thinks I think that’s really cool. I wish I was smart enough to look into more bands when I was younger.
best commercial for iPhone 7 Plus
Ros Reynoso I don’t get it. Was this song in an Apple ad?
@@KoreanTakeout Not that I know, but this video was shot with an iPhone and it looks fucking amazing. Sounds pretty good too.
I remember covering this song in High School back in 2003.
I was there ! That was a damn good performance ! Awesome show. BTW. Thanks for recording this.
heck yea!!!!!!!

Im squished into the middle of the first row. amazing show!!!
Hell yeah man! Also great running into you at the show dude!
yes!!!!!!!!
This is great Sam! Omar Rodriguez in da house!
Damn this cover band has done well for themselves. They even sound pretty close to the actual ATDI.
at least you can hear the song, back in the day it was just a mess live
Haha I know I feel the same way, it sounds completely different.
It’s missing Jim
@@albertoprepucio4398 but it's in a completely different tuning...
@@redacted5035 his voice needs some help these days
Love this band!
Saw them in ATL, was god damn amazing.
great quality, cool venue

It’s actually a pretty decent rendition of what they were capable of doing twenty years ago.
The tuning kills me🤢
@@redacted5035 it’s better than if they played in the original key as he can’t hit the notes like he used to.
They still killed it for them being like 50 fuckin years old lol
In hindsight, it was probably not the best idea to compare Omar to Woody Allen in any capacity.
Great show after last year being at the door and they didn't play. Loved Napoleon solo! Wish they played Fahrenheit.
excellent!!!
is this version tuned down or something? Sounds quite a bit different
bruhhh its boostin weather i love it sammy that rock concert seems rad af too peace
ATDI and Saosin playing together again... WHAT YEAR IS IT
man that is awsome.wish i was there
Saw them first time in 2000. Still sound the same.... just a little less dancing. Great video
saw them for their warm up show in dallas, 400 people venue omg insane gonna catch them when they come back in june
eliteap i was there too!! it was amazing!!!

Legends
skip to 1:59 for the start of the song
YTYGATG?

Ngl I kinda hate Cedric's attitude talking on stage
If Jim Ward ever comes back into the fold nothing in the world will keep me from the concert.
my fiance and i saw them when they were in atlanta. omg so amazing
great vid.
Best drummer ever
goosebumps

Too much hip hop and heavy metal! (Was he subtly dissing nu metal?)

Wasn’t it Pattern Against User?
Best. Band.

Nice to see they've stopped going "Hey, stop dancing out there you guys! You could ouchie each other!"

This song sounds so much better when played with discipline!
Plus that venue looks cool as fuck.
BOOOOOOORING!!!!!
that head-nod tho. sam sheffer approved.
Qué buena
Jesus Christ. It's 2017 and we have a new ATDI record. Maybe there is hope for society after all?
Verga, que chingón , cuando se hacía buena música y desmadre
This was shot on an iPhone 7? JEEZ!
I was going to say, this looks nicer than the pro recordings made the last time ATDI were together
The audio doesn't sound half bad either. Smartphones have come a long long way
Bustamoo hardest thing is restricting mic gain. If you can adjust on the phone or the phone does it for you it’s great.
Distance from the front helps too
Far, far more contained and less raw than back in the day but still awesome.
They’re in their 40s now
Theyre also not on drugs anymore, I think?
Sorry, but this the best they’ve ever sounded! It’s so tight and played properly!
Jim is unreal, but old mate has him covered! This is fucking nuts!
"holy shit, these guys are gonna fuckin' go everywhere" - my first reaction.
They sounded pretty tight as they did, but the energy was thousands of miles away after 15 years. In particular Omar's

Yurgen Jergenstein cedric isn't 25 anymore
yeah i understand, im just wondering how low they downtuned.
All the guitars/bass are tuned down a half step
Fuckin AWESOME!!
Where's the audio?
Is this at T5?!?
is that ryan gosling at the end?
My mom and tony had a crush on eachother in highschool

What an awesome night and live show that was. Those who dislike must've thought they were clicking for a fast food porn site or some crap. For shame.
