This is another great compliment to a any quality Hotdog 🌭 I had to substitute 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon for Cumin but it’s still fantastic and doesn’t taste like Coney sauce which can have a overwhelming chili taste Thank You
This is delicious! It is my first attempt at making hotdog sauce. I used tomato paste instead of ketchup and “Better Than Bouillon-Roast Beef” instead of powder bouillon. Finally, I substituted venison for the beef.
Yum! My fav! My 1st husband(R. I. P.), taught me to cut very thin fresh tomatoes w a sprinkle of salt on ur taco! He was Mexican, now its the only way I eat Chorizo n Eggs! Try it n lmk if u like it! ❤
This sounds really good. I'll probably modified by cooking the onion for the sauce in butter first, and also I much prefer my dogs fried with a little butter.
I haven’t been able to find a good commercially produced meat sauce for hot dogs. The few that are available use texturized vegetable protein instead of meat which does not sound appetizing. I’ve used sloppy joe mix in a jar as a base to produce something similar to what you’re doing here, but I’m definitely making this recipe because it looks so good. I love a good chili dog, and you’re right, it’s not chili in the traditional sense. It is in fact a meat sauce. Oh, and of course it must be topped with mustard and onions!
A lightly steamed bun does make hot dogs taste better. The meat sauce you made has most of what goes into bbq sauce. I had to give up most processed meats including hot dogs but now I may have one for old times' sake. You can buy a heavy duty whisk to help break up ground meat and also use it for mixing whipped egg whites or a batter--anything requiring gentle handling.
I love my hot dog and hamburger buns steamed. I have an old round stove top steamer I've been using for almost 50yrs! I don't think they even make them anymore. My parents got it for me when I first got married. ❤️
Hey Ken: I appreciate the recipe for the hot dog sauce. I have a couple questions: 1. In the video, you call out a 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, but the recipe list 1 tsp. Which is correct? 2. I did not see you add any salt or pepper. Is this correct? Thanks.
Both are correct. Start with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and then taste it. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add more garlic powder if you like more of that flavor. Also, I invite you to explore my channel for more great videos! ► youtube.com/@KenClick
@ Ken Click, Ken my good friend & Christian brother, very nice recipe, don't change a thing, & Nathan's hot dogs are revered as 1 of the tops in the world, God bless you & yours
Is this meat sauce on the sweet side? Just curious. If so maybe I’ll reduce the brown sugar. Looking for a Upstate NY style meat sauce this looks great.
@@KenClick wow this recipe is so delicious. Some of the best hot dog sauce I’ve had. Came out perfect. Tomato sauce instead of Ketchup for me and little less brown sugar. Thanks for the video!!
I still call that chili. LOL If it has hamburger, onions, chili powder and ketchup...its chili. Yours is fancier than mine, can't wait to give it a try. 😁
The no ketchup on a hot dog is an informal Chicago "rule". Because so many flavor profiles already exist among the numerous standard toppings, ketchup's strong flavor is considered incompatible or overkill. I say, if you like it, go for it.
Delicious but way too sweet for some pallets. Skip the ketchup and use well strained, hand-crushed tomatoes instead. Add an extra 1/2 tsp of garlic power, and add brown sugar (sparingly) at the very end only if the mixture is too acidic. Add a 1/4 tsp of cinnamon for an amazing accent. Add a couple of tablespoons of Cheese Wiz, melting in at the end for a cheese note instead of putting grated cheese on at the end. Tap a little celery salt on the dog after the sauce is on for a special extra taste. If you put diced onions on after putting sauce on the dog, use Vidalia onions if available. ALWAYS steam the buns ,, always.
I want open a chili dog plays with a hot dog sauce meat sauce and steak sauce for steak sandwiches make the best sauce that no one else has I really want to do this got a lot of customers
