chavacano always uses masculine.. "el" instead of "la"

spanish was mandatory in curriculums until it was totally eradicated in the 1970's...
and to worsen it all, the government is trying to also eradicate english in schools.. so stupid that the math and science subjects in textbooks are totally funny when you read them..
i won't be surprised if the children from that transition's generation will be having lack of knowledge in english if not knowledge in general compare to earlier generations..

the filipino language is indees complicated. 😁
"I" is "ako" . but "ako" can also be "me" . the meaning depends on the usage and construction of the sentence.
"i hope to love" is "ako ay umaasang magmahal" . "love" is "mahal" and "to love" is "magmahal". the word "hope" alone is "pag-asa" but since it is used in a sentence the meaning changes to "umaasa" .
"I hope to love" can be translated to "ako ay umaasang magmahal" but this can also be translated in english as "i am hoping to love" which can also be "umaasa akong magmahal" . either way, they have the same thought and so "I hope to love" can be translated in both ways.

Zamboanga se considera la unica ciudad Latina en Asia. Hablamos chavacano, un criollo de Español. Nuestros verbos no se conjugan. Los verbos en Español en la tercera persona son los verbos mismos en presente, pasado, y futuro. Por ejemplo el verbo comer:
    Presente-ta come
    Pasado-ya come
    Futuro-ay come

From what I understand, Castilian is the "Old English" of the Spanish language and is what the conquistadores were speaking by the time they came to the Philippines. So Cavacano is really just a "simplified" version of Castilian, similar to how it is "simplified" in Latin America for ease of use for the local people then kinda morphed into its own distinct language.
This phenomenon happens all over the world and not exclusive to Spanish or the colonial era. Even Spanish itself is the Chabacano/Vulgar form of the Latin language.

    • @rosheleu
      @rosheleu 3 роки тому +4

Latin american Spanish is over 99% similar to Castillan Spanish. The only difference are some colloquial expressions; the pronunciation of a their C, Z (Castillan has that lisp); and the use of vosotros (informal plural of You) where pretty much all the Latin American countries use only the formal plural form "Ustedes"

Yeah. Language is really amazing. How the original Latin language went extinct when Roman empire fell. Like how we lost Spanish when colonization ended because similar to Latin, only rich educated people knows the language and was not properly taught to people. And all was left was it's bastardized form. I read somewhere that Italian is more close to Latin, and a language called Catalan in Spain. I even find it amazing that the trace of the Roman empire's Latin language can also be found here at our country. Although English comes from major languages including latin, it's still good that we have our own, although given to us through colonization. I was studying and memorizing latin prayers before and I was amazed that I can understand some of the words. Even tagalog word "at" is very similar to Latin's "et".

"I" in tagalog is "ako". Also the word "love" has a 2 word translation in tagalog, ie "mahal" (also means expensive) and "ibig" with a literal translation of love. So to help Efra to translate "I hope to love" have 2 translation - "Ako ay umaasa na umibig" or "Ako'y umaasa na magmahal" both have the same meaning.
In my thought I feel that umibig is the correct word rather than magmahal. I believe we filipino started using mahal or magmahal that means love because even though it is not a literal translation of love because if you love someone you value them and saying "mahal kita" for me means I value you which means if you value someone then that means you love them and that is when we started saying mahal kita to someone to express our love.
If anyone can give their thoughts about this I would be happy to have one.
    P.S.
I do not know why I ponder so deeply in this matter, maybe because watching too much of "EFRA'S MIND" hahaha.
    Love you guys.

There are 2 kinda of Chavacano here in the Philippines. That one is Chavacano Zamboangueño in Zamboanga, Mindanao and is the more popular one. The other is Chavacano Caviteño or Chavacano de Ternate in Cavite province just southwest of Manila which is closer to Spanish, Cavite being the Spanish stronghold during the Spanish period of the Philippines.

I enjoyed watching the two of you! :) Efra got it right with the "porque" (because) and "por que" (why). But Chavacano is a spanish based creole, it is mixed with local Philippine dialects, especially Cebuano (for Zamboanga Chavacano). There is also "Cavite Chavacano", a Spanish based creole mixed with Tagalog since the speakers are mainly from Luzon (Manila area).

from my history class way way back. I've learned that spanish and english were the co-official language during the american occupation/Fil-American war up to around 1920's. But the status of spanish as an official language was removed only after 1987(by then, I think only some schools teach spanish but its not anymore use by the masses, probably by high society during that time). My Aunt studied at UST, and I believe her batch was the last batch that has a mandatory spanish class(I don't remember if it was late 90's or early 00's).
