there are Spanish migrant Filipinos, some of them even Catalans, who have settled in Zamboanga del Norte (where I'm originally from). Dipolog City (the capital) is famous for Spanish sardines and chorizo. Go figure. My great grandfather originally came from Andalucia and migrated to the Philippines by way of Cuba then eventually settled in Baliangao, Misamis Occidental, where you can also find a few Spanish minorities.

    • @deancafe4739

Chavacano started out, when spanish soldiers and filipino workers were put together to build the fort in zamboanga city. Since these groups of people did'nt have a common language.. They mixed their languages together, to somehow communicate with each other. This process is called pidgin. When this new pidgin language is passed on from generation to generation, it is now called a creole, hence the proper name of chavacano is "a spanish creole language". Chavacano has its own orthography and dictionary, so you can't say that it is wrong grammared or broken spanish.

    • @rayquan-c1n
      @rayquan-c1n 3 роки тому +3

Chavacano came from a spanish dialect native to a region of Spain near Portugal. And over time the language has been mixed with Austronesian/ South east asian Language(that's why at least 30% of chavacano has tagalog words).

In Chavacano, “alboroto” means noisy. “No
man alboroto” literally means “don’t be noisy” but the implication is “don’t create a fuss/ruckus”. Also works for telling somebody to not divulge a secret. The closest equivalent I could think of in English is when somebody tells you to “hush”

Cabeza (head), alboroto (mayhem), reventado (busted), etc all common words or simple expressions growing up in the Phils in the 80’s. Well mixed Spanish words with taglish, or Spanish with mostly English with a little Tagalog commonly spoken. It’s quite different now. Even the generation before us, the boomers spoke more Spanish than us. I hope they bring back Spanish subject in schools.
I heard you say maldita. Another commonly used word or expression.

FYI: Zamboanga-Chavacano is not referred to as broken Spanish. It is a Spanish-creole based language and is unique to the Philippines. It is the same as to how Spanish is spoken differently in other Spanish speaking countries such as Spain, Argentina, Nicaragua or Chile. From the accent, phonetics down to vocabulary. In Mexico-Spanish 'chinita' means curly hair, while in Peru (the same as Philippines) it means a Chinese girl. Or how work/job is 'trabajo' but in Argentina its 'laburo'.

There are two places where Chavacano language are spoken. The two places are Zamboanga and and Cavite City. The difference are in Zamboanga, Chavacano is a combination of Visayan and Spanish Languages whereas in Cavite City, Chavacano is the combination of Tagalog language and Spanish language. Cavite City was where the Spanish Naval Base were located

    Chavacano is a 65% broken Spanish ..
And the history of Chavacano originated in Asia's Latin City which is Zamboanga.
I've already met TOP DOGZ and MALDITA ..
They are only a few of those Chavacano singers.
Please listen also to DEJA/DEHA by Zero.
    You'll also love it.

Chavacano is also spoken in a place called Cavite City..my father and mother spoke the language, very close to Portuguese as well. Chavacano just forego conjugations as it supposed to be in Spanish.

By the way, that's not in Spanish nor it is in Philippine or Filipino Spanish, but it is in Chabacano or Chavacano language (specifically in the dialect, variant or variety named or called Zamboangueño Chavacano or Chavacano de Zamboanga of Western Mindanao or Southwestern Philippines, most especially in Zamboanga City, Isabela City and Lamitan City).
Please react to any or all of my recommended videos about my beloved home City of Zamboanga in the Philippines where a Spanish or Spanish-based creole language is predominantly used and spoken by the majority of our total population in the city. This Philippine Spanish or Spanish-based creole language is collectively called or named Chabacano (or as Chavacano with a "v", as it is used, known, spelled and written in Zamboanga City and in the nearby, immediate, surrounding or neighboring places and areas around the city).
Here are the videos about the City of Zamboanga and about the Chabacano or Chavacano language (specifically Zamboangueño Chavacano or Chavacano de Zamboanga) :
    1. An Overview or General Introduction to Chavacano language and Zamboanga City by a UA-cam content creator, traveler and vlogger named Drew Binsky:
    ua-cam.com/video/voOCSj4OF9M/v-deo.html
    2. A contemporary Chavacano ballad titled "Eternamente" (Eternally) :

    3. A contemporary Chavacano ballad titled "Hasta Na Final" (Until the End/Up to the End) :
    ua-cam.com/video/3gZk2SMC9WA/v-deo.html
    4. A Chavacano folk song titled "Chavacano (Un Poquito Español)" (Chavacano (A Little Bit Spanish)) and a traditional or folk Zamboangueño choreographed dance to accompany and interpret it:
    ua-cam.com/video/5aHK8U-Jw-s/v-deo.html
    5. A Chavacano folk song "Princesita Zamboangueña" (Little Zamboangueña Princess) and a traditional or folk Zamboangueño choreographed dance to accompany and interpret it:
    ua-cam.com/video/yDFX6DFB0sw/v-deo.html
    6. A Chavacano folk song titled "Aire de Zamboanga" (Air of Zamboanga) and a traditional or folk Zamboangueño choreographed dance to accompany and interpret it:
    ua-cam.com/video/dVt_-DVt52M/v-deo.html
    7. A video about the different programs, plans, activities and projects in Zamboanga City and by the Local Government Unit of the city, among others, for the preservation of the Chavacano language in Zamboanga City and its promotion to and among the Zamboangueño people of the city and for the other peoples of, living, residing, working and/or studying in Zamboanga City and beyond:
    ua-cam.com/video/vLD6lO95o4c/v-deo.html
    8. A song titled "La Virgen del Pilar" (The Lady of the Pillar) offered to our city patron "Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar" (Our Lady The Virgin of the Pillar) :

    9. A classic Chavacano song titled "Mientras Que Yo Ta Vivi" (While I am Alive/While I am Living) :

    10. A modern and contemporary Zamboangueño and Chavacano version or translation of "The Lord's Prayer" or "Our Father" and titled "Tata de Amon" (Our Father). This is how we, more or less, now pray and say this prayer in the modern and contemporary Chavacano language:

    11. A contemporary Zamboangueño and Chavacano festival song titled "Vene Ya" (Come/Come on/Come now/Come already) :

    12. An online or virtual program or activity titled "LA RAZA: Celebracion del Nacimiento de Languaje Chavacano" (THE RACE: Celebration of the Birth of Chavacano Language) for the preservation and promotion of the Chavacano language as well as the commemoration or remembrance of its foundation, birth or genesis and when it became the official language of the City of Zamboanga.
