I’ve always used dawn with vinegar for bathtub! It works like a dream! The vinegar eats and loosens soap scum!! I put it in a spray bottle it’s 3 parts vinegar to 1 part blue dawn….spray it in- leave it for 30 mins- and scrub…..boom! Gone!! BEST hack ever to clean Tub! And I think it’s easier than using baking soda (less elbow grease) I’m all about EASY!😜

Professional painters use 100% acetone to clean their brushes. That's what I use to clean my brushes.
You can buy it in big cans at any hardware store/big box store that sells paint.
It's the same chemical that you use to remove nail polish.
Some nail polish removers are not 100% percent acetone and do not do a good job of cleaning paint/glue/glitter glue/waxes off brushes.

There is a difference between "nail polish remover" and acetone. Both will work to clean brushes, but acetone from a beauty supply will work better usually. Some of the removers have other ingredients that aren't really necessary.

Try having a glass of water at your work station and immediately put brushes in it when you're done (keeps the paint/mod podge from drying on them) and use an old toothbrush to clean the base and bristles of paint brushes. I've have had same brushes for years now and still soft.

I love your videos & I greatly appreciate the "hacks" you share.
Whenever I see your paint brushes with crusty bits I appreciate that you have demonstrated how to reuse them to create different looks when you are painting/distressing your projects. However...I don't understand your struggle because if you wash/rinse your brushes right away when the paint/mod podge is still damp...it helps to prevent the paint brushes from developing "crusty bits". It's not 100% effective, but it surely slows down the crusties...lol.

    • @thediystruggle

Kathi, I work 12-15 hr days 6-7 days a week. I am running several social media outlets on top of creating content with DIYs. I forget OFTEN to rinse out brushes. It's extremely EASY to forget when you have so many projects going at one time in different spots of your craft area or patio. And, you leave brushes from one project in one spot or another and thought you grabbed all of them.
But, for the most part, dried up paint brushes are a common problem and something people talk about often in my comments, so I always wanna help. It's good to know my not cleaning brushes all the time is also someone else's Delma!
I hope that helps you understand what it's like in my shoes a little better. Have a great night

Have you tried applying mod podge, let it dry, then iron the napkin? I have nail files in my craft supplies. Thanks for the stencil tip. the bleed through drives me nuts. Be careful when using nail polish remover - try not to submerge the bushes beyond the metal holding the bristles in place because the acetone in nail polish remover will also break down the glue that holds the bristles in place. I don't like the scorched edges left from the burn method. Thanks for demonstrating all the hacks for us. Lyn

June, I tell you what! The fact that I spent 5 minutes scrubbing the paste all over the shower and then let it sit and the rinse was almost perfectly clean, floored me. I ACTUALLY HAVE one of those as seen on tv tools thats an electric scrubber I use and ill spend a good 30 minutes with that thing going at the shower every two weeks hating my life. Now I had a spot or two that I could a added more paste on but ideally this was unbelievable to me and i feel like my entire scrubbing shower life could have been more simple over the years if I knew this! I recommend if you have a spot with a heavier scum build up then others just scrub it a second longer than anywhere else and still let it set.

I'm one to use parchment paper and iron method always love it, never tried wrap instead of modpodge though have to try it, thanks for shrink cause it's a b..... when you run out of modpodge. I loved the cleaning method but I've only used 3 parts vinager 1 part blue dawn and have same results for me, but like you I'll try with baking soda cause it does leave a fresh smell when cleaning with it. I'm on oxygen and don't like the burn method but have seen it work by a friend that did for me of course like I said in my case will stick to sandpaper or file for small hard to get places and the brown bag hack love that idea. Thanks for all the sharing love them. Keep up good hacks to try. 💕have a great weekend. God bless

How easy is it to clean the stencil with the dried mod podge on it after letting it dry to prevent bleeding of the paint? Thanks for the hacks.

      @thediystruggle  Рік тому

The paint is easier to get off... sometimes you gotta let the thing soak in a flat sheet. And then it comes off.. but mostly I just leave it and roll on to the next.. I haven't had many issues reusing

Hey lady long time no talk!! What kind of clay do you use now? I started using what you did last year but I have nothing but trouble with it. It is sealed super great in a dark cool place and I can take a clump out very easy to roll and put in a mold but it is not coming off very pretty. I used to be able to slide my finger across the top to clean up the edges but it makes a mess. It’s like I’m struggling. Then to get it out nicely is like fighting with a 2 year old!

Just be careful with the polish remover on brushes. The acetone will also break down all the glue holding in the bristles and it'll shed in your paint eventually! (Nail art brushes use different adhesive.) Also, I'm all for you lighting more stuff on fire! That was very satisfying to watch the flame race around the edge!

Glad you mentioned the glue. I usually use shampoo to really clean my brushes, just because I have a ton, but I was thinking I should use the acetone on a few brushes that have some specks of dried paint in them. Now I know to be careful to just dip the bristles in it and wash right away.

Yesss Brandi! Great video!! I loved everything you've tried, except the fabric hack, lol, "what kind of games are you guys playing with me?"😆😆🤣 After having to iron for 10mins, plus, I'd rather not! I don't even like having to iron my clothes that long! The decoupage burning...heck to the no!! I tried once, over my sink, and like you, I can't!!! Thanks Brandi!!💕💕💕 🤗

I just think the iron on method with mod podge is so simple next to this.. i was rather upset at myself with all the time i spent trying to make this hack happen. Some say I need a hotter iron but for my sanity. I am gonna lay off this hack for a few months and THINK ABOUT GETTING a big iron i can adjust heat settings on!

Maggie, I am not gonna lie to you, If you get it FIRST THING with hot water and soap! Its fine. I smoosh between to towels and rub together! BUT,,,, If left to dry I just leave it and then still reuse it..lol I am a rebel like that..HAHA. Most of the stencils I get are super cheap. I am not to scared to toss them out, but if its one I love I try to remember to be ON IT asap!

I like a good hack...thanks for sharing. However, I have learned that there is no hack I really trust to clean a brush that has had a product dry on it. I keep Goof Off in the cabinet where I clean my brushes. It is the only thing I will use to clean a dried brush anymore.

Not sure if u have tried it yet or not but i just came across a video by craft plaid or something anyway they were demonstrating a new Mod Podge that is for transferring photos onto fabric basically after he went over the photo w the sponge he basically used the damp sponge to keep gently going over it until the paper started rubbing off but WOW looks amazing!!
