Servicing a Kawasaki engine, changing the air filter, spark plug, fuel filter and an oil change. You can find me across social media here bit.ly/jimmyslinks
I watched this video last year the first time I did my service on my lawn mower. It was time to do another service, and I scrolled through the videos until I found this one again. Great instructional video, lots of good pro tips but still very strait forward, easy to follow, and to the point. I also appreciate the genuine good attitude of the man doing the service, very infectious. Life's about enjoying the small things. Thanks again from the USA.
Hi Jimmy, I have viewed so many UA-cam videos on proper Maintenance on a Kawasaki motor via zero turn, I have the same 42 inch as yourself. Never fussed around trying to do myself, but thanks to you Mate, did Everything you taught me! I really appreciate you taking the time to teach my self and the other 2k subscribers! It was simple no rubbish, straight to the point, lets get after it :) Jimmy have a great day Mate Salute, Im so happy my Engine is running 100% perfect thanks to your Video, Love and Respect your Friend from NYC
This is exactly why I do these videos, to help people out and to give them the confidence to do these things for themselves. This comment has really made my day, thank you so much Mattie. All the best, Jimmy 👍
Followed Jimmy's instructions. Changed my first oil today- also serviced my mower for the first time ever. Jimmy- this was PERFECTLY done- thanks for saving me!
Thank you Jimmy. Excellent video. Very useful. Best wishes from Summertime Australia where it’s been over 36^Celsius for the last week. Grass growing like crazy!
Cracking engines the Kawasaki mate,I find the filters with the bit of foam round them are better and the filters last longer, all I do is after every job is get my stihl blower and just give the filter a blast out on my ferris takes less than a minute, great review as always mate keep up your fantastic work 👍👍
@@JimmyTheMower Yes, after watching the video I was able to change the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, oil+filter and not only does it still work (haha), it cranks and runs even better than before! Sadly that was my first ever time doing any of those things but now I feel more capable thanks to you. One thing I didn’t expect was the amount of oil that spilled out when I removed the old filter. (Yes, the oil was all drained at that point). Made quite a mess but nothing some shop towels couldn’t clean up. Thanks again!
@JimmyTheMower I accomplished everything except the Sparkplugs and Airfilter which I'll probably change halfway through this season! Best wishes from Kentucky! I hope your grass is green and your lines are straight!
@@JimmyTheMower No sir, as they are usually in tight spots, its a hex head with a slot for a flatblade screwdriver(which never works very good) so I always try to get a socket on them.
Actually I just checked the air filter on My Gravely ZTXL 52" and the top clamp by the filter has a plastic T handle on it , but the lower one by the intake does not.
I don't have that drain pipe, it just oozes out into a drain pan on the mower; it makes a mess. I need to tune up my mom's mower next week. Thank you for this video
You have to be so careful with these engines lately. Fuel contamination is a big thing, so changing the fuel filter is a very cheap way of maintaining the performance 👌
Thanks for this great tutorial! Inherited a SCAG mower with FR691V engine...780hrs... Has bit of oil buildup in the intake...what could cause? Looking to get the mower back in tip top shape. Thanks again and hope your doing well!
They are great engines and the one you have should run for many more hours. With regards to oil build up on the intake its hard to diagnose over the Internet. Clean all associated pipework to clear any blockages and clean everything with carb cleaner and run some injection cleaner fluid through the fuel tank / lines. This makes combustion a little bit hotter and the solvents loosen any stubborn gunk and should burn off any excess. If the problem persists then you need to dive a bit deeper. Best of luck 👍
Loads of people have asked this question. I haven't gapped a spark plug in about 25 years. I just match up the NGK numbers and use them straight out of the box 👍
Fantastic, I haven't gapped a spark plug in years and everything has always run spot on. However, I will make a video on how to do this, and include the information in future servicing videos 👍
Either it's running exactly how it should be or it is ruining a little rich on fuel. The same engine on mine hardly ever needs the choke unless it's very cold.
You didn't measure/re-gap the new spark plugs. The spec for this engine is 0.75mm. The BPR4ES is 0.8mm out of the box, so it needs to be closed up 0.05mm to meet spec.
The worst problem we have here in the US is the gas. The ethanol gas kills the carb in about 4 years. We can get the O ethanol but is is expensive but it is worth it.
@@jimeckenrode1271 we always change them at least once a year. We are operating commercially and can't afford any downtime at all. Prevention is better than cure 👍

@JimnyTheMower Does that oil drain hose tuck inside? Changing mine for 1st time and it doesn't have the handy hose.
Add fuel pump replacement
@@kentsturgill5945 it just runs down the side of the engine.
Hope you got it sorted 👍
@rickeyjoestory1182 I haven't changed one of those in a kawasaki engine yet, but I will make sure I film it when I do 👍

Great Video Jimmy ! In America the clamps on the air intake hose are "Worm drive" or "worm screw" hose clamps
Do they have a thumb screw on those to make them easier to undo ?

That's the same as mine.
Lots of people take the top clip off and bend the pipe which causes it to crack.

Great video! What was the gap on the spark plugs?
Loads of people have asked this question.
I haven't gapped a spark plug in about 25 years. I just match up the NGK numbers and use them straight out of the box 👍
@@JimmyTheMower spark plug gap states .7-.8mm or .027-.031in, but they are already set that way straight out of the box.
Good video. Personally, I prefer to verify the plug gap.
A lot of people have said that. But I'm pretty sure they come preset

Jimmy what psi do you recommend front and back tires mate?
We run ours at 15psi
Whatever you do, just make sure they are the same each side or it affects the cut by tilting the deck.
Thank you!!

Ok thanks for everything
Brilliant, hope it all goes well for you 👍
Any idea why my fr651v on my Ariens Edge never needs choked to start even when it's been sitting for days? Why is this and what does this mean?
Either it's running exactly how it should be or it is ruining a little rich on fuel.
The same engine on mine hardly ever needs the choke unless it's very cold.
On this motor should screw the dipstick down to check the oil ?
Thanks 👍
NO. Never screw the cap on, just measure the level by putting the cap on but no screwing it in.
You didn't measure/re-gap the new spark plugs. The spec for this engine is 0.75mm. The BPR4ES is 0.8mm out of the box, so it needs to be closed up 0.05mm to meet spec.

I wonder if they do this at the main dealers 🤔
.7-.8 factory your fine

I thought you would show us how to remove the oil filter without getting oil all over the frame?...🤣
That's just how it happens in real life sometimes 🤣🤣🤣

Same in the UK.
We have E5 and E10 petrol ⛽️
Is definitely worth paying the extra for the better stuff

Mine dont have the drain hose , it would have been nice . Oil all over the frame and rear axle . Dont think it got the belt
Hopefully you missed the belt......
It's a lot easier with the hose though 🤣🤣

Is this an Ariens zero turn?
Yes it is, it's a tidy little machine too 👍
