- The third and final installment of ''The Aylsham Trilogy''. A video I have been holding off on uploading for a while, as the bells are very special to me, as they are my own mini-ring. The bells were cast and hung in 2021 by Matthew Higby & Co, and were hung in Aylsham. There are 8 bells, and the tenor weighs 19lbs 8oz and is tuned to D.
The name 'The John of Gaunt Ring', comes from the military leader and statesman, who lived from 1340 to 1399. He was the son of King Edward III and the father of King Henry IV. John of Gaunt was the Duke of Lancaster, and became the lord of the manor of Aylsham in 1372 with the town becoming the Principle Town of the Duchy of Lancaster. It was under his patronage that the Parish Church of St Michael was built during the 14th century.
The John of Gaunt Ring was home to the 'Society of Aylsham Campanile Youths' between 2022 and 2024, when the ring moved to Sussex. The first peal was rung on the bells on Saturday 13th January 2024, in 2 hours and 18 minutes. The method was 5056 changes of Plain Bob Major, conducted by Colin F Salter of The Wolery, Old Stoke, Ipswich, and was rung by mumbers of the Society of Aylsham Campanile Youths. When the bells moved to Sussex in 2024, the Society continued under it's former name in the new location, with two peals in November 2024.
8 bells, 19lbs 8oz in D.
Lovely bells! Cant wait to watch your live stream tomorrow!
absolutely nice bells
epic bells
Great utilisation of double handling! Have you ever attempted it on full sized bells?
What a fantastic set of bells just one question how do you stand the bells, I notice a counter weigh on some of the bells. I keep thinking about building a small demonstration bell as maybe a recruitment aid or just to show what happens up in the tower. As I'm sure not many of the congregation will know how we ring .
