    I can't emphasize how valuable your videos are. Not a lot of people understand the foundation work that you are sharing in the video. It's going to make a big difference in having more responsible owners.

    Hi Tom, ever since I ran across your videos, I've loved them. I've gone back and watched almost all your older posts. They've taught me so much. I recently got a rescue JackRat and our relationship has grown so much, thanks to your training videos and tips. Again, I want to thank you for your insight into dogs! You're great!!

    Been listening to your podcast for nearly a year and I just started watching your videos. It’s amazing how consistent and cohesive your training advice/demonstrations are; your clear communication really helps me understand the bigger picture-the video lessons tie in so well with everything I’ve heard in the podcast, I’m impressed!
    Anyway, I’m struggling with gaining my 14-week old puppy’s attention outside. When outdoors, he’s very alert and is consumed with listening/sniffing/looking around. He is a primitive dog, so his tendency is to be independent and aware of his environment. He’s not incredibly food-motivated and will not eat/pay attention as soon as he’s outside.
    My other dog is also a rescued primitive dog and had the same issue. However, I worked with her using a plastic prong collar and it solved the issue. The puppy, on the other hand, seems a bit too young for a prong and is generally nervous; how do I “correct” him or gain his attention when it’s in his instincts to investigate the sights/smells/visuals of his environment above all else?

    Some lines are slow to mature and a good Breeder will tell you this. My Zed didn't have her first season until 15 months. Like you I train from the get go. Great video Tom. Thank you : )

    Right on. A Training video on how to teach the puppy to pause before eating would be cool.

      You could use the leave it command

    • @stefaniedayfox8117
      @stefaniedayfox8117 4 роки тому +1

      Michelle Dawn I use “leave it” for when she’s picked up a shoe or is going after the kids clothes, etc- I don’t want her to associate meal time with possible “time out” if she doesn’t comply. I wouldn’t want to stir up anxiety around food - just looking at me for permission would be nice. I just came across a great video by Upstate Canine Academy that addresses this perfectly!

    Love this advice Mr. Davis. I almost over did it with training with my Weimaraner pup, he's 14 weeks old now. When I realized I was training too often, I slacked off and growing more now. We've got recall, (90% at a dogpark) 100% door manners, sit, shake, stand, stay (up to 30 sec without being able to see me) leash manners are moving along well but I try not to be too hard on him when out socializing, he sits and stays until released when it's time to eat/drink, he knows no means stop whatever he's doing, and "free" is developing. Do you have some tips or maybe a video you could do covering the introduction and development of free/break please Sir?

    I just got a German Shepherd puppy. He just turned 8 weeks a day ago and today I experienced food aggression with him. I’m wondering what kind of training you suggest? Maybe some tips on potty training (I don’t want to take him outside because I live in an apartment and expose him to other dogs), obedience, and food aggression.

    This was very helpful I'm looking at so many videos bc I'm getting my first puppy in 22 days and i was wondering what should i do with her and just generally have a great relationship with her so she knows I'm the one in charge so thank you for being one UA-cam and the e collars videos bc i live way in the sticks and I'm concerned about the dog deciding ooo bird cya later and me not being able to get her to come back and also thank you for explaining that the dog doesn't need to yelp and jump for the e collar to be working I'm not saying I'm gonna put a e collar on a 8 week old pup but in the future of course I'm just saying thank you because i really want to be a good owner because you could have the best dog ever and if you don't know how to train it probably the dog could be not so much the best ok I'm done rambling have a great day my dude and stay safe with the Corona viris being in the U.S

    Really appreciate the videos. I'm still looking for a southern California educator who understands and trains like you do. I have a 3.6 year old Italian mastiff who is fear aggressive and I could really use some hands on help. If I could afford it I'd fly him to you! 😊

    I like watching your videos, they are very educational. I have one more question, I want to train (raise) a puppy and a lanbrador retriever. He's 13 weeks old. This one does not want to listen if you want to stop biting the belt. Unbelievable, for a labrador. so he goes well, follow loose without any problem (. walk with him) when you call him he comes etc. But if you say that he may not bite the belt then he knows no no
    . And just want to bite the belt or in your hands. I have already tackled him roughly for his behavior, but I have to lay him on the back for a long time before he delivers. How do you best handle this? Gr. Wilfried

      I have a 16 week old female and she’s been with us for 2 weeks now. Super smart and stubborn but actually listens when I tell her no lol. It only took about a week to week to crate train and she loves her crate. She’s amazed me thus far with how different she is from what I’ve experienced with her breed at doggy daycares!

      All Of The Little Things good! Just stick with it. I have an almost 3 year old female and she is really good too actually. Never had potty training issues with her or issues with tearing things up or anything. She gets excited very easily though and I could never trust her off leash at this point lol
