I started training the day that they each came home and we haven't stopped training since! It is definitely a lifetime commitment when you have a well-trained dog. You have to refresh that training constantly and they are constantly learning new things.

We started training the day after we picked the puppy up. At this age when they're so interested in everything it is soo easy to use anything that has any value to them as an opportunity for a mini training session. It's so easy to create solid and consistent engagement that way - and that's with terrier breeds who are generally less intrested in working for the handler

I started training my Boerboel puppy at 10 weeks. She learns super fast! Work in progress, but Come, Sit so far. Leash walking was natural for her immediately, just have to fine tune it. I feel like I have the smartest pup on the planet! She blows me away how fast she learns!

I was part of the transport team that brought Darby to New York … it’s so good to see that his tail is still wagging like crazy … I can’t believe people treated him the way they did …he really is so good natured and really wants to work …thanks for helping him be happy

14 week old mini poodle. Started training him the moment I got him at 12 weeks with potty training and he has that down now. Now Im continuing to praise for no leash pressure, looking at me on walks, getting in a sit and wait when I open the door, and crate training. Those are the main focus now. Going to make the focus getting him to sit instead of jumping on people and furniture next!

I start with my Sheps Day Two...I've had good success with a lead and attaching to my belt loop. They quickly learn their perimeters and they're quickly corrected for any unacceptable behavior...best part yet, they have a job

I needed this I have a 5 month old puppy that I’m struggling to teach Impulse control. I’ve always rewarded calmness but I can’t even pet him without him losing his mind and getting super amped up. He’s fine any other time and is perfectly calm but try to pet him and he starts jumping up and wiggling. And funny enough he’s a Texas heeler.

My 6 month always mouths/tries to play with my hand when I pet her, so I always shove a squeaky toy in her mouth so she doesn't bite me. Long term effect so far has been she's never been able to, or allowed to bite hands that pet her, so she doesnt

I think it can really boils down to just natural puppy behavior, they will slowly lose a little of that energy and you can work with them a lot more, I have a very active Chihuahua puppy rn and they still use impulse issues, along with MANY of my foster puppies,
I think it will pass but definitely do not reward the behavior, they will learn eventually!

The day I got my GSD I implemented rules and boundaries so that the puppy knew exactly where he fitted in. We got him used to his collar the same day he arrived. We did loads of training just with luring him and capturing behaviour. As he began to get used to our family, our routines and what was expected we upped his training, slowly started to practice in public places (all places where you would not usually find dogs and definitely no dog parks or walking where dogs could be found). We kept his training fun and never allowed him to practice any behaviour we did not want ie he was either crated or attached to a human and had no freedom to roam where he could get into bad behaviour. I firmly believe that if a dog has the opportunity to practice a behaviour we do not like then they will become experts at it. Problem is trying to fix it later so if they never got the opportunity then they never do bad behaviour. So now, my GSD is 2 years and 7 months and so well behaved and still has not destroyed anything or done anything that can be considered a bad behaviour - he would not know how to do it - he offers good behaviour all the time. He is a gentleman and I can take him anywhere knowing he will be very obedient.

Got my puppy when he was 12 weeks old, he is about to turn 3yrs old this year, been at the trainers doing various classes twice a week ever since I brought him home…..basic obedience……rally-o…….flyball……agility…….and just started scent detection class. We are not competitive level at any of it but the most important thing is I have an obedient dog and we have a great relationship and bond and we have fun. I knew the breed I had and the size he would be, so started early. We have had struggles with dog and leash reactivity and a couple of other behaviours along the way, but have come out the other end well. Never give up, keep training.

My rescue heeler mix was 6 weeks old due to circumstances, I took over mom and started training of what she could have and not. She is so much fun even at 5 years old to continue training. Keeper her mentally stimulated and exercise keeps me in shape and learning new ways to train.

I started on training as soon as we met our Malamute from the breeders house. He was jumping up on everyone and we immediately told him that wasn’t acceptable, and before the trainer brought him out of his pen I asked to go in with him first to get the initial threshold experience was human first and he gets invited or lead through. Took a couple of attempts but he got it.

Most of my dogs have been seniors at time of adoption, however, I did still train the basics: sit, stop, stay, off, leave it, and most importantly come! they all loved it and took to it super fast. My last dog was 1.5 yrs old when adopted he was fear-reactive (still is) and considered "high bite risk" We started with the basics and evolved from there...he is now 14 yrs old and happy to report has never bitten anyone. We still do nosework, fitpaws, obedience, and he still likes to bring "his sheep" (the ducks at the neighborhood park) to the pond, we do this every morning rain or shine 🙂People would ask me why did I adopt an "aggressive dog" and my answer was the same every time... they also deserve a chance of having a loving home, a 2nd or 3rd chance at having a "normal life" most of these dogs like mine, just need time, love, patience, consistency and a firm but benevolent leader. And by firm I always emphasize that it is "mean what you say and say what you mean" not yell or hit your dog as that accomplishes nothing but, the relationship has to be build on mutual trust, and respect.

Love Darby. So glad he found the right home where he can thrive. He’s is very handsome too.
Dogs who are crate trained properly love their crates. One on my rescues put himself to bed every night about 9 in his crate. We had 3 large rescues, all loved their crates, and we very seldom ever had to close the doors and they used them every day. However, they were not allowed in each other’s crates so each had their “own” space.
As to the comment about decor I get it - try 1 large and 2 extra large crates plus 3 extra large dog beds in the den. I referred to it as “The Doghouse”! When you love them it’s just the way it is. Our good friends and family members didn’t care because they were all dog lovers too.

I have a coonhound, a rescue, now he’s maybe eight years old. He pulls and barks at certain things, bicycles, golf carts. He see people and barks to say hello but off course it scares these old people so much they’ve bitched because he barked at them to management. So before all these snow birds show up I’ve been working on his barking with him and in just a couple days he’s gotten it pretty well, but we’ll be training all year!! Thanks for you work

I got a pit bull puppy given to me. They said she was removed from her mother at 4 weeks old. They never set boundaries, let her pull on the leash. The only thing they successfully managed was potty training. I know she is at least a year old now. I have crate trained her, taught her to sit, lay down, and wait. Treats make her automatically go for the treat instead of doing the command. In leash training, she knows to heel. But lately, she has been walking then runs to the end of the leash and turning around facing me. Sporadically, she will pull back, other times she will jump at me. I have corrected her, I currently use a slip collar. The problem I have is she does it randomly. I can walk her in my living room with no distractions, and she still does it. I don't get a warning before she bolts forward. I apply the correction and that is when she turns around and fights the leash or jumps at me.

We were working on food and resource guarding when we first got our Shih Tzu, so that took a fair amount of time to change. But we did work on staying and engaging with us from the very start. I messed up his leash training a little, but I getting that sorted out. I am also working on lay down, and staying at 7 months since he has spring-loaded bottom before, any time I marked a sit he was up and gone. Rather than set him up for failure, I waited until he was a little older and calmer, but he is doing really good.

We got a our pup 4 weeks old due to unavoidable circumstances, I started training as soon as I got home. We had a crate prepared with blankets over it and comfy bed and she is a year and a half and spends most her free time in her crate. She totally loves it. We got her during covid so it’s been really difficult to socialize just because we had to quarantine, so that is really what we are focused on now. She gets super over stimulated when she is around other dogs but more so with people. She is gets excited and doesn’t show aggressive behaviors, but still jumps on people to kiss them. So as we head into summer, I am slowly socializing and working on the training skills outdoors in the park with neighbors to help de-sensitize and am working on getting the duration commands without interacting with people so she can get used to be in the environment and still get commands and then slowly start to introduce her to people and animals slowly.

I brought my border collie puppy home at 10 weeks and by 12 weeks she was loose leash walking, auto-sitting and could do a down in motion which I was so proud of her for. That took me a while to teach my adult dog but I’m a better trainer now. Now realistic expectations were she could do that in our home, backyard and boring neighborhood but she could not do that at the plant section at Home Depot which is all wet, stinky and distracting. On adventure outings at a young age she wore a harness where I knew I wasn’t going to get compliance from her and the goal was for ever to get exposure and not drill obedience.
How could I possibly hold off training a working line border collie. Absolutely brilliant. When I purchased her a place bed she learned the cue “place” in one session. Was walking to place off leash from a short distance 4-5 ft. I moved quick with her because I could. Learned drop in one session as an eager puppy playing fetch. Working dogs are a whole other class and it’s a joy to train them if they live up to the drive they should have. She was off leash trained at 5 months old :)

I appreciate the point that the whole household needs to be on the same page of how they’re training a puppy, because dad may tell her to do one thing, mom may let her get away with some things, and then little Billy and Sally will be teaching her to do bad things like drink from a toilet bowl or get into the garbage 😅

I start training as soon as I get the dog. I have never crate trained. I worked outside and always had the (multiple) dogs with me. My last GSD was a very easy train, she just wanted to please all the time.
The Border Collies were working animals and again easy to train. Socialisation was on going as we sometimes had 18+ dogs about the place. They were all happy to be on their own. So often the young dogs just followed the older dogs with their obedience training.

I have watched so many different dog trainers and your techniques are by far the best. We rescued to puppies last November. One is a Pit/Sharpei mix who is now 22 months. The other is Boxer/Rhodesian ridgeback now 17 months. Both male. A big challenge for me is walking them together, Bandit the Boxer/ridgeback always has to be 1st across the finish line. Your techniques with teaching to Heal using the prong collar has helped immensely. We have a way to go but our walks are becoming more enjoyable for all. Now my challenge is keeping them from going crazy whenever somebody comes to the house ( which isn't very often) Virtually all the videos out there are for training one dog. Well I have two! Very energetic, playful, friendly competitive dogs. I can't be the only one with 2 dogs. Maybe a training video Topic?

Training started the day we brought our puppy home at maybe 8 weeks. AND we were really building on training her previous owner had started already, so she knew so much! She totally needs work to do and loves training 🤣🐕🐾💖

Started the day we got her, about 10 weeks old, but it was also right when covid lockdowns started so she didnt get to see anyone but us. Not ideal and now its more of a challenge to meet new people and dogs, would love to see more about covid isolation dogs

Like many others I started training my mini dachshund the same day she came into my home at 8 weeks. They're notoriously stubborn so her training progression was a bit... slower than others but at 9 months she's pretty good!

I adopted my dog at the age of 11 months. The family gave him up because he barks and is fearful of unknown people, sounds, and other dogs. everything. We are working on getting him familiar with people, which is improving, but still reacts very badly to other dogs. Pulling, barking, and baring teeth. Still working on it.

4-5 months. I didnt want my dog to be a "leash dog" I was totally ignorant to obedience. I live in the country and our dogs have always been naturally well behaved. I got a super high energetic Aussie puppy who was a nightmare in all the normal ways. Using your videos almost exclusively, I consider myself a pretty in the know handler and have an amazing dog (for the most part. We are still working on things of course) Hes 8 months now and he's amazing compared to where he was a few months ago.

I started training my 4 month old puppy 10 seconds aftwr his mom chewed off his amniotic sac. I did the same with his 6 siblings as well. They were used to thwir names, kennels, and being around other people by the time they were 8 weeks old. Dewey and his mom have gone to Celtic festivals, Tractor Supply and visited family with me. A puppy is never too young, an adult never too old in my opinion.

The day he arrived home (8weeks old): look at me; sit; crate training. We added some more things since then, but only basics or play related. Always wondering if we should train him more, how much freedom should we allow him to ‘just be a puppy’?

training starts day one, as simple as rewars when they pee outside, and adding a word to the act, when our puppy dalmatian peed outside we said potty and rewarded, so when we take him anywhere now we say potty before we go in the car and he does what he needs to do ^^ cratetraining, getting used to collar, touching his feet, mouth, nose and ears etc..
