PURCHASED BEST INVESTMENT OF MY LIFE
The fact that the three greatest chess players of all time of Magnus, Fischer, and Kasparov all have had major problems with the FIDE/chess is a sign that there needs to be more change
And not only them, probably 80% of players have issues with FIDE, but are not brave enough to confront them.
Yeah definitely not a sign that ego makes people think they are above the rules...
@@gredaxdo u play chess?? Do u play FIDE tournaments?? No ryt
Then just stay 🤫. They were world champion.they know the game better than any of us.they know what's going on at the top level.
Rules are rules is fine. But stupid rules r not fine.needed to be removed.
Anyways FIDE is all a mess
eg look at the fide circuit,it's such a mess
@@Duskrider_18 Let's say I did, I would be happy that the rules are enforced on the very top of the ladder just as they are for me. The rule being stupid mean's it should be removed, not that only magnus is free to ignore it and the rest of us plebs have to follow it. He has the follow it like the rest of us and I'm glad about that big W to FIDE
FIDE is run by a Israeli Jew: Emil Sutovsky. He thinks Israeli's genocide in Gaza is reasonable. You can't reason with a person like this.
Michael Jordan was fined 5000 dollars for each game he wore his Jordan 1's, but he was never told he couldn't play. FIDE rules are stupid.
So should Magnus wear pajamas to world championship games and just pay the fine? Thats a slippery slope. Magnus wanted to make a statement and hes a buffoon and FIDE had to make theirs. Simple!
@@red37i59ur kinda right but fide is an absolute joke, so Magnus is pushing back.

My boy Levy didn’t even change his shirt before filming this video, he couldn’t wait to spill the tea with all the drama that happened today
And this time he was right in the middle of it 😂
He got an interview with both parties.
Why would you film a video, come home and change shirts, and film another video? Pointless.
@@josephb4224one was for”take take take” this one is for Gotham Chess
He doesn't want to leave single piece of things to us. Imagine he changes shirt and forgets a thing.😂
Dude covered this TWICE😂 but the recap was obligated.
The problem is not about fairness in enforcing the rules.
The problem is that the rule in question is completely illogical to enforce in the first place.
Magnus was well-dressed.
As a spectator: Optically as a spectator you won't notice anything off about his attire. You probably won't even know the exact dress-code they were provided.
As a player: None of the players cared. No one lodged a complaint because no one cares. In fact, Ian mentioned in Take Take Take interview that there were like dozens of guys technically violating the dress code everyday down the playing hall. Doesn't seem like they were all penalized like Magnus was. Clearly no one ACTUALLY cares.
If the audience can't tell anything is off, and the players don't care, then why is this rule being enforced to the extent of not only a fine but round forfeit?
Why not enforce your rules when the outfit is outright inappropriate, rather than enforcing them blindly for a silly nitpick like this?
FIDE is being unreasonably stringent over a nitpick nobody cares about, and they have been pulling this on players every year, not just Magnus. It's just that the other players cannot do anything about it other than abide because they don't want to be kicked out after coming all the way to play.
FIDE likes to quote Magnus' "matter of principle" phrase out of context to make it sound like Magnus is just being uncooperative and privileged. But in the context of the nonsense FIDE pulls, it's good that Magnus is standing up against all of their nonsense and standing by his principles. FIDE is not doing anyone a favor, not the fans, not the players, with their stringent regulations.
Meanwhile, FIDE CEO has been trying to misdirect and shift the conversation to be about the 'fairness' of rule enforcement, to insinuate that they are right and just, while Magnus is being privileged.
They are trying to draw attention away from how their arbiter was just walking around looking for problems unrelated to the chess, where there were no problems to be had.
Calling out and fining people for a rule nobody cares about and that affects nobody.
Calling out and fining someone who was dressed presentably, just because TECHNICALLY he is wearing jeans.
Literally nobody cares about this. The arbiter was essentially just starting problems with players over things nobody cares about.
And then FIDE CEO comes and uses 'fairness' as a shield to shield the arbiter who was going around and using the rules to pointlessly and blindly nitpick peoples' attire for nobody's benefit, starting problems with the players and punishing them over completely inconsequential 'rule violations', and fining a bunch of players over things nobody will notice.
FIDE is pretending it was all about 'fairness', using fairness as a shield for their stupidity.
If they really wanted to be fair, instead of uniformly fining everyone, how about uniformly STOP nitpicking and agitating players?
And, once again, actually enforce the rules when the outfit is outright inappropriate, rather than enforcing them blindly over a silly nitpick like this?
When FIDE is constantly testing players' patience with absurdly nonsensical regulations, something like this was bound to happen.
Who the hell is gonna read all that

the punishment didn’t fit the violation. if dress code was so important then fide needs to do an inspection of everyone before they sit down to play. the players are in the middle of doing their job when the match starts. a dress code violation doesn’t effect the game.
This is what I thought of as well. They should be screened for cheating prior to entry into the hall. They should also have their attire checked at the same time.

@ yes of course
Well, no, even the best player should have to face consequences like the rest
Magnus is just sane version of Fisher, beat chess and doesn't give a frick about FIDE
Let’s figure out the Mystery of Magnus The Diva. The Deep Dive.
They gave Magnus 2 rounds to change, he didn’t. Would it not be belittling to Nepo, if he was to change but not Magnus?
But why the drama to quit?
1. Magnus made some bold claims in the take take take video on his top rivals. He basically reiterated that he had no clear rivals besides Alireza and Hikaru. He’s also been piling on classical for being a bad format that lets weaker players cover up their weaknesses through huge time to apply theory cramming. But in this short time control tournament he drew against 2500s, and lost to lazavik (definitely not a regular 2500 like Magnus’s other opponents).
So after round 8, and being at 5 points, Magnus was very low down the rankings and most likely would not have won or perhaps even finished top third if he continued with this whole tournament. So to avoid his ego getting hurt, and having to eat his words before the tournament, the diva decided to snatch the spotlight and perhaps make this seem like he’s fighting against the Soviet Union military on his own. Now all the casuals with his dna trace at the back of their throats will say the world rapid and blitz champions are not legitimate, ignoring Magnus’s terrible show in the tournament.
2. Magnus wants to be remembered in legend status like Fischer and Kasparov. Forget their strength and accolades, these two not Ono pushed forward chess theory but also had myths around them. Magnus wants to be known more than just Norwegian Rain Man with a sheltered upper middle class childhood and mostly just reduced to e-celeb athlete in modern safe and cushy times. So when he realised 2900 rating wasn’t possible because of overall rating deflation, and chess theory is saturated plus Magnus was never a theory innovator, so he felt a bit lost on how to go forward. Fischer went crazy and a fugitive. Kasparov went against the soviet political machine, and later tried to run for Russia president. But Magnus is like a grown child insanely good at chess, but otherwise pretty normal. No mythical stature. He even wondered how to explore options around chess. When nothing much seemed clear, he decided to pick a fight with fide and promote freestyle chess to have his Kasparov moment of breaking away and having two separate chess divisions. Hence the little childish tantrum like rebellion against fide, backed up by streamers having more clout in chess now and they’re all his minions.
3. For everyone saying, “it’s jUst jEaNz tho”. What is chess at its core as an industry? It’s a spectacle. It sustains itself monetarily and otherwise because of viewership (online, or live tickets, and sponsorships predicated on that viewership). In that regard it is no different at its core business principle than onlyfans, trashy comedians, and other entertainment content. The reason everyone values it is because players devote their lives to developing super human cognitive skill at it? Why? Because they and us fans view chess as something important, prestigious, and serious. Now if dress codes don’t matter at an important event like the literal historical world championship title of rapid and blitz, then doesn’t all this just become casual spectacle? The only reason we respect chess super gms more than content creators and influencers (despite the latter being richer) is because we realise that all this official chess field has gravitas. Without that very gravitas, no one would care about Magnus being the best chess player. He’d be just like some Acoustic Kid genius at the spelling bee contest. It’s because centuries of prestige and respect and seriousness has been developed and preserved for this game of chess, is someone like Magnus able to strut around like “Oh I’m quirky, not like these other nerds. I’m a cool acoustic board game genius!!”
So cut the bull and stop glazing Magnus so much. He already has a girlfriend

This situation is crazy. Magnus got a fine, he was fine with it, that should have been the end of it. Instead they went on a power trip and wanted to make an example of him by disqualifying him. It's like getting pulled over for a busted headlight and the cop giving you a ticket and then he says "you know what, you have to go down to the street to that mechanic and get it fixed otherwise I'll arrest you." You already got a fine, anything more would be an abuse of power.
perfect analogy mate!
I agree with you, especially since the slacks looked to be a part of the outfit. Everything was color coordinated, and looked nice. But the pants were denim, and that somehow matters?
yup, and even the rule book says that disqualification is for "severe misconduct". it lists other penalties such as forfeiting 5% of prize money as a punishment for minor infractions. what about wearing jeans is severe to them? it's clear it isn't just about the pants.
from the rule book: “4.10.10. If a player fails to fulfil his/her duties listed in Articles 4.10.1, 4.10.4-4.10.9, he/she can be penalised by FIDE Council as follows: 5 % of his/her prize money shall be forfeited to the Organiser and a further 5 % to FIDE for each breach. In cases of serious misconduct, the player may be disqualified from the event.”
That's not at all what happened. He repeated the offense and purposefully provoked a disqualification to exit a tournament he was about to lose his title thus not having to admit to a straight loss - especially to himself. He's a terrible loser and feels super entitled. That's all there's going on.

Perhaps in another country it might be different, but jeans can very much be formal wear in America.
The formal dress for
athletes are shorts then why jeans can't be formal for chess
You could wear that to a wedding in Vancouver
I wouldn't call it formal. I would call it business casual or semi-formal. But honestly anything business casual and above means that its not going to be a distraction which is why there is a dress code to begin with. You don't need to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
Definitely not formal, Also the dress code is something that everyone has followed and has been enforced for years
As a casual player, just hearing that Magnus lost or had to forfeit due to the pants he had on is stupid.

The jeans speak for themselves
this has happened in many sports, F1, baseball, basketball....

Comment of the century
They won‘t they have other interests, like winning the tournament, they are happy that magnus is gone lol
I can understand small punishments for not adhering to a dress code (fines, time penalty, etc.) or other small rules, but disqualification is overkill. FIDE is on a power trip, and everyone can see it
I would agree if they disqualified him for a first offense, but they fined him initially, only DQd him for the 2nd offense
He was issued a $200 fine to begin with. Refusal to change clothes "immediately" instead of the next day as Magnus offered is what resulted in "DQ." Still think that was a reasonable compromise that the Chief Arbiter should've allowed for the fine. EDIT: As the video explains from 1:09 - 1:36 , he was not technically disqualified, but the restricting him from round 9 play effectively eliminates the ability to make a podium finish were he to continue playing round 10 onward... it's definitely in the spirit of a "DQ."
Also Zaven Andriasian at the same event got away with "trousers" that were made to look just like jeans, so this is still just arbitrary powertripping by the arbiter any way you slice it.

This only makes sense if you legitimately think it's about dress code. As soon as it was pointed out that Carlson has a venture directly competing with FIDE the profit motive becomes very clear.
Regardless of what you think of Carlson, he's been carrying the entertainment side (aka the part of the sport that actually generates revenue) of professional chess for over a decade now, there's no way FIDE isn't looking to cut him off at the knees every chance they get to keep their golden goose from getting run over.

The comparison to Fischer and Kasparov is fascinating. It’s undeniable that both those legends had not only incredible achievements but also narratives that transcended the board. Magnus’s challenge is different: he excels in an era where chess has become more global, less politically charged, and deeply intertwined with technology. Unlike Kasparov, Magnus doesn’t have the Cold War mythos behind him, and unlike Fischer, he doesn’t embody an enigmatic, tragic genius.
A pair of black jeans is the most formal thing I’ve ever seen anyone at work wear. Fide is on a power trip enforcing a dress code which doesn’t reflect modern dress

We are decidedly not talking about something offensive here, anyone who considers Magnus’ outfit today offensive needs to get checked out. Again, I was there, the man looked sharp, sharper than me certainly, 10x sharper than Hans Niemann.
Finally, my understanding is that FIDE introduced this dress code in 2018 against the will of a good chunk of top players. So historically this is irrelevant too; there’s absolutely no argument or reason why one should bar a top player (any top player) from sitting at the board in this kind of situation.
@@TheRealGigaCat Nah the comparison here doesn't work at all. What you said is like, severe mental impairment type stuff and I truly hope you're okay.
What's crazy is that FIDE allows jeans? Were they torn? Can we get specifics on what about his jeans aren't allowed? Because Regulation 3.a. under their dress code LITERALLY says jeans are allowed. This just looks like FIDE is going crazy to assert control.
There's a short interview with Levy and Magnus is wearing normal jeans.
It seems to me like being fined and fixing the mistake at his next arrival at the venue should be more than sufficient in all honesty. Giving someone forfeits for not looking nice enough, not indecent or wearing a shirt with something inappropriate on it but just not having nice enough pants on, is absurd.
what's absurd is him knowing the rules and ignoring them, then being warned multiple times, ignored them. Telling them he will comply with regulations on his own time frame and he doesn't care. Then when he got sanctioned make out like you are a victim and refuse to play and withdraw, you are 100% right it's absurd.

For people saying Magnus should just follow the rules. It’s like during the case of the female IM again, where the arbiter made a mistake of marking the match as a loss when she clearly drew.
Although they corrected that, she was already matched against someone as if she lost. And FIDE stated they aren’t able to change the match-up because of the ‘rules’.
Remember, the intention behind making the rule is more important. They made that rule in order to ensure fair play, yet in this case, following that very same rule will be unfair to the female IM.
The case against Magnus, and even Ian is similar. They made rules like those to ensure the players look presentable in front of the camera for the viewers and the sponsors.
They already wore a formal and presentable attire when they came. Do they really have to be so strict with implementing ‘that’ rule when it literally doesn’t cause any inconvenience to anyone?
No. This is just a clear case of a power play. Ian complied because he didn’t want more trouble, and they let that get to their head.
Magnus was already fined and he himself stated he will follow that rule for tomorrow’s match. When they kept insisting and even threatened him with disqualification, as he said, it became a matter of principle.
Should he bow down even more when he already tried complying with them so much over such a rule?
Clearly he didn’t, and now FIDE has to accept the consequences of letting that power get to their head.
That female was not a GM, she was an IM Vantika Agrawal
@FocusonSolution780 oh thanks! I'm gonna edit it now
Everyone follows the rule
It was actually a draw, the arbiter marked a loss for vantika instead of a draw for both players

I’m not bringing down anything over a pair of jeans. Magnus can suck it up
hi
Didn't Levy tell Hans not to act like this? Didn't have the balls to tell Magnus how to talk... Hmm
Also, the amount of sexism and elitism that both of these WHITE BOYS have profited while being in the chess world.. Are we done with it. Is Take Take Take that profitable of an app that they are ready to burn down the system? Quick, before anyone asks if women will be allowed to play chess in comfortable shoes....

Yours absolutely correct 💯 @@gardenoffailure
What's funny is what did people wear when chess was invented, also when it became more well known.....but new era you have to have a 5k dollar suit to play and represent.
Magnus has not cared about FIDE-controlled chess for several years and this was the last straw. He's not insane like Fischer. But I'm with him on this. Wearing jeans is not a big deal. Magnus basically beat the main storyline of chess and now he's just interested in side quests.

Not to mention the 200€ fine. That's not about money obviously, that's about respect. WHO are they they think?
The only one ego tripping is magnus, there’s hundreds of players following the rules this tourney, with the known dress code, and nepo who complied with walking to the hotel 3 minutes away to change, magnus is the only one who didn’t and acted like a baby when the rules were enforced
like imagine ian who’s shoes were out of code, they don’t even show up in video of the tournament, yet he still goes back to change, but magnus can’t? He has an ego for no reason
Dude, there are rules and he signed off on them. What do you expect them to do, not to enforce the rules? What kind of an organization that would be (as if there is not enough criticisms of FIDE already)?? He is also the top-rated player, all attention is on him, and he openly flaunts the rules as if they dont apply to him. Why did he sign off on them in the first place them and showed up? If he was so adamant about FiDE not telling him what to do, he should have just not shown up and quit the federation before the tournament. Childish behavior, the second coming of Bobby Fischer
@@johnnytest3230exactly, Magnus fanboys will be quick to defend him but if you check out emils interview with take take take, he specified that Magnus had time to change, he just refused to do so.
Leaving aside for a moment the fact that the dress code (or even the whole "behavior code") in chess is ridiculous, this definitely is not a "pants" issue. This is FIDE trying to reassert themselves as the owners and controllers of chess because of the Freestyle Chess drama (and also probably the fact that Magnus kinda "devalued" the World Chess Champion title nor participate in the last Candidates)...
The thing is that I think FIDE just shot themselves on the foot: they probably didn't think Magnus would just drop out of the Blitz portion of the tournament. Now they are stuck as the guys who disqualified the best chess player in history because of pants AND burned the bridges for any "peaceful" resolution to the Freestyle Chess thing.
What is the freestyle chess thing?
Nepo was fined for his sheakers, he changed them and continued playing. Magnus was observing the dress code before, but now suddenly it became so super important to him to wear jeans.
If it is a power play, it is power play on the Magnus's part to own chess completely. He became co-owner of chess24, then chesscom moving him to the helm of all online chess. He own or co-owns more and more major tournaments, his only remaining obstacle to essentially own both online and offline chess is FIDE. If he dismantles them, it will be a game belonging to him and his buddies
And of course, he owns Gotham, he owns Hikaru, he owns the vast majority of all chess influencers. At this point it's almost impossible to get your chess coverage from people who aren't dependent on Magnus
@ccruzp06 The dress and behaviour codes are NOT ridiculous. The comfort and convenience of other competitors and the needs of advertisers and sponsors are important- very important. Once the dress&behaviour code is published and agreed the code should stand. In this case the enforcement was heavy-handed. I agree with Levy that allowing Magnus to finish the session dressed as he was would have been kinder, and certainly has no bearing on the results. If Magnus or anyone else was so offended by the rules I am sure the World's Press would have been delighted to hear about it before the event. Otherwise, if the code bothers you so much, why enter the event...?
@@ameroo6163 check out Levy's video for a more in depth explanation, but the tl;dr is that Magnus and other top players feel like they aren't getting enough revenue from FIDE tournaments and they don't agree with FIDE's rulings about stuff (see Magnus not defending the CWC) and so they have found people with money that are willing to sponsor other tournaments. This threatens FIDE's control over chess and apparently there were even threats of not allowing players who play in the Freestyle chess thing to play in FIDE tournaments.
@@NJ-wb1cz sure Magnus, just like Nepo, had the choice to do that. The thing is that, if FIDE had decided to fine Magnus for each game played while violating the dress code, even increasingly heavier fines, this would've been a non-issue. To me it makes the game seem more exciting and elegant. But, I am very pragmatic and utilitarian. If more fans enjoy the game and competitions in hoodies and jeans, then that is better. It provides the most enjoyment for the chess public. Still, I think a mix might provide the most enjoyment. Hoodies and t-shirts online and at most events, but some special competitions at elegant and exotic locales with beautiful suits and ties and evening dresses.

Its funny.. Levy's last video was "will magnus be the world champion" and then "He got kicked out" 🙂
I think a dress code is fair, for most sports including individual sports there are strict dress codes with some exceptions namely being "Keep it respectful" dress codes, as those allow for more leeway. Not being able to participate in a sport as a result is common. But that is typically only in scenarios where the event organizers do not want to be held liable for safety shenanigans such as wearing loose clothing and jewelry on a basketball court or soccer field. Other dress codes that are there strictly to keep a sport clean looking, will normally only result in a fine; especially when it is the first offense. That is to say that although some may believe that a dress code should be unilaterally destroyed, to keep up a sport like appearance, dress codes should be utilized. I mean, imagine if just some rough homeless looking fellow was on one of your favourite sports teams or a major contender in a sport you watch. It would wreck the sports image. So, understandably, Chess SHOULD have a dress code.
The question becomes: How strict of a dress code should Chess have?
My answer is this: The dress code should depend on the event organizer's regulations. However the organizer's regulations should permit for a large variety of apparel, barring only clothing which shows skin or is extremely loose. Essentially, keep it tamer than a high-schooler.
Now for sponsorship? if we really wants Chess to have sponsors, we should have the dress code be suits and ties, that way Chess could be associated not just with the idea of 'intellectual' but also of higher class. That would entice companies which sell luxury goods to invest in the Chess world. Like, imagine Rolex, the ads would be too easy with watches "Need the time but only the Chess clock is around? We've got you covered. Rolex". Another option would be to have Chess players act as models. Sign with a company to wear their clothes during large Chess events as a way to promote their clothes. A sense of luxury would be good, which is what I think FIDE is thinking.
So, depending on how we want Chess to look and how we want Chess to be like at the highest levels, a stricter dress code certainly seems important. If you give someone an inch, they'll take a mile. So they shouldn't give exceptions, even if it is the face of chess himself, Magnus Carlsen(If anything, they ought to be stricter with those who represent).
But in this case? I believe expulsion from the round is a ridiculous punishment for regular jeans. A fine would do just fine. If it were ripped jeans or showed skin? Fine, whatever, expulsion would at least seem somewhat reasonable. But plain jeans should be a light fine at most.
6:21 What more to say? Great injustice that is ruining our era of chess and not allowing us to see the GOAT play chess. Levy i commend you on your way with words but there is no beating around the bush with this one. A complete and utter failure from FIDE.
Yeah Magnus should be able to dictate the rules he follows and on what time frame you are right
@gredax he looked professional, isn't that the point of the rule? What more does dragging it to the letter accomplish? It was a childish power play by FIDE and he told them to shove it.
sure, but if that was a genuine concern why didn't he raise it ahead of time? He knew the rules and agreed to them. He played enough events that he knew exactly what was going to happen. He was asked to change, got a warning, then a fine and then a forfeit. At every step he got to continue on the understanding that he'd follow the rule. Ian got a warning and then changed. But Magnus is more like a kid that wants to see how much he can get away with due to his GOAT position.
@AndreiDinTheHouse Ian doesn't have the power to say no, magnus does, Nepo also supported magnus and agreed fide was being ridiculous, so did kasparov, so did hikaru. Would renaming the freestyle chess events "global cup", "intragalactic crown contest" or suchlike obviate any possible IPR claims that FIDE could possibly advance?

The dress code rules are certainly stupid and they need to be changed. Until they are, though, Carlsen should not act as if he's above the rules, and if he does, then I say good riddance

When Jürgen Klopp was still the Mainz manager, he had an interview with the Hamburger SV. He showed up to the interview in jeans, which is why they didnt sign him. ~15 years later, Klopp is a Legend at 3 Clubs, won everything there is to win, and Hamburg are in the 2. Bundesliga for liek the 8th year running.
Objection, speculation
Don’t go throwing out the legend tag on everyone
I can tell you with 100% certainty he is here in Dortmund, and i get the sense people from Liverpool would say the same. So do Mainz fans for that matter. And as for the HSV part, a simple google search on that matter will bring up dozens of articles, quotes and interviews on that specific Klopp to HSV thing.

People say Magnus needs Fide, like what? Magnus is a multi millionaire with a huge fan base. While also he has proved he is the best in chess for a lot of years! Quitting world championship himself before that drama. So what else there is for him to gain from fide? He don’t get any serious money, don’t need more fame ,his chess career is pretty much completed anyway😂😂 Unlike Fide and content creators that are struggling without him to bring numbers. Not to mention that if he leaves, a lot of big names like Hikaru will follow at some point
He agreed to change for the next day, they fined him and wanted him to go vhange immediately which is dumb, fide messed up 100%
It's not dumb at all, they gave him 3+ chances they are trying to enforce their rules and magnus on some ego power trip, told them he will comply to the rules on his own time frame, that's not how life works.

That's one way to kill the game of Chess. Alot of people want to watch Magnus win or lose. People want to see the best compete no matter which player you favour.
Kicking Magnus out is such a hard blow to the chess world. He brings ALOT of attention to the chess world beacuse of his personality and his monumental talent in chess.
The game of chess will hurt beacuse of this. Immensly. Beacuse the best players in CHESS don't earn their top money in tournaments. That should be a HUGE heads up for Fide.

@@rohitkevat3271right, because attacking Magnus is totally the innocent thing to do. What you're saying is so stupid. As an outsider of the chess community, dafuq is that? Is that how you people treat your best players? If they don't even care about having the best players in the competition, it says a lot about this organization. Maybe it's an opportunity for new events and organizations to show up, but I don't really care because I don't even play chess anymore. It's just sad to see this kind of thing.
It's a Canon event 🗿
How can you be a Goat without having a beef with FIDE? Fischer, Kasparov and now Carlsen, all of them were ahead of their peers in their era and had a conflict with the governing body.
Look, I think the dress code is good, but to remove a guy for wearing something borderline is missing the point. Your point at 5:00 is 100% reasonable
On norwegian tv he said to an interviewer that it’s now war(in Norwegian)
It happens in all sports where the referees insert themselves into the game by how and when the enforce their version of the rules or events.
Dress codes are classist bullshit. I'm not saying players should be allowed to enter a tournament in their swimsuits but how are jeans not OK?
FIDE is the problem and it's painfully obvious.
"The only common factor in all of your failed relationships is YOU!"
FIDE has a long and storied history of having beef with basically the greatest players of the last 50 years if not longer. Magnus, Gary, Bobby, etc...
FIDE need to change or it needs to go. Yes they do a lot of good with some of their programs, but that is not an excuse for how they seem to drive the best players away from them with their choices and behavior. People can only take so much before they push back.
I hope Magnus can lead an effort to rid us of the scourge that is the FIDE decision makers. F them indeed.
What good do they do after all?
Or maybe it's because 3 players - Fischer, Kasparov and Carlsen - are incredibly egotistical and believe themselves to be greater than the game? There have been 14 world champions and only 3 have walked away from championships and had such huge problems with FIDE.
Chess, on the cusp of breaking out into mainstream, refuses to get out of it's own way.
No, FIDE refuses to get out of the way. They shoot chess in the foot every time it starts to get popular.

What was FIDE doing when Alisher Suleymenov was wearing a watch OTB against the rules?
FIDE Handbook, E. Miscellaneous, 11.3.2 - During a game, a player is forbidden to have any electronic device not specifically approved by the arbiter in the playing venue.
Watches aren't necessarily electronic.

This move by Carlsen was deliberate so the question is why? Either he didnt want to play someone that day, or he can't say something against the FIDE and he wants the public turn against them. Since Carlsen solved chess and is basically the emperor of chess, the FIDA better rethink their strategy.
