  • A few years ago, Channel Islands set out to create a lineup of boards with consistent design language and innovative outlines to encompass all conditions and waves. Enter the Happy Everyday - the blue collar sibling to the bustling Happy Family. We’ve been testing ours since last spring and even though we lost a few sessions to a camera malfunction, we still have opinions.
    Should we have ordered a custom? Or were stock dims the right pick?! Can 1.5 liters really make a difference for average surf dads? Are we asking too many questions? Check the video to hear our experience!

    I got this board in a Spinetek version. I choose the board to be a quiver killer and it hasn’t let me down. I went for higher volume than I could get away with and use different fin set ups to adjust to wave size. I’m 74 kg 175cm and got the 6.0
    For sizable waves I put on some MF carver fins L, and for smaller stuff some olde KS 2.1 Switching fins makes it feel like two completely different boards.
    I absolutely love this board. It’s very durable as well in Spinetek, no heeldents or anything like that.

      Yesssssss Koen! Spine-tek hasn’t let us down either - well except my bank account, but that’s minor. Good feedback on the fin change, we will give that a try on our next session!! Curious what you were coming from prior to the HE?

    agree with you guys. for a Pro maybe a grovler. but for regular working people who surf on weekends every 2 to 3 weeks on average this board works better with bigger steeper waves…. 4 feet and up for me. good review.

    This was definitely the review I was looking for. I am 170, looking for a board to surf mostly in the waist to chest high summer stuff but not a fish. Did this width feel sluggish? , I never ride boards over 19 wide because I need it to be snappy. Keep up excellent and honest reviews.

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Рік тому +2

      Yewwww thanks R treb 🤙🏼 we wouldn’t say sluggish, just a bit too much board. With the 5”8 stock dims, it’s a great “step up” for us in larger surf, only issue is we aren’t in larger surf…ever…and that’s not the board’s fault! If you’re interested in a summer sled (and don’t mind breaking your 19” rule) we’d say check out the Fishbeard or Rocketwide. Hope that helps! 🤙🏼🐠🚀

    I picked up a custom 5'7.5 x 2.5 x 19.5 (29.5L) at CI factory and surfed it for a week (1 week ago) from Santa Barbara to SD. I am from East coast and just did a quick week surf trip. I am 160 lbs and 48 years old. I was gassed just trying to catch waves. When I did catch waves it felt good until I tried to really push a front side turn it would get stuck? I thought it was the fins at first (medium Future F6's) then tried AM2's and same issue? I ride a 5'8 RW as my daily driver and never had this issue...anyway I guess I need to try it in bigger surf. I got it because they claim it is a slight step to the RW. Anyway thanks for a great review! Cheers

      Hey Allen! Bigger surf definitely improved our experience with the board. Tough to order a custom and not be stoked, hopefully it just needs to warm up 😉 separate note, when I get to 48 i hope my dims are like yours - and not strictly beholden to the Wavestorm 😂 if you make it up our direction let us know, we’ll set up a shred session!

    Hey guys, I would
    encourage you to try a spine-tek HE, I’m 6’0 78kgs and ride a 5’9 & it’s me legit go to board from 1ft unsurfable onshore slop to about double overhead, then I’ll change boards. For me this is that magic board you rarely find, I don’t surf my Fishbeard anymore or my two happy because it seemingly replaced them both.
    Was using the Hayden shapes medium in really small surf and everything else AM2’s

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Рік тому

    • @damiencollins8124

      @@greenroomsurfreviews I sorta nailed it first go, helps when you’re paying new too. I was tossing up between the 5’8 & 5’9, I probably could of gone 5’8 and sized it down like I just did with the neck beard I got the other day. But when I buy another one I’ll keep it the same size, could just be the EPS, but it paddles onto waves as good any of my boards and hasn’t lost any performance.
      If you can find a spine tek in the smaller size for you, have another go. I’m sure you’ll love it as I seem to like similar boards as you boys.

      @@damiencollins8124 Hey Damien, what are your thoughts on the HE vs the Neckbeard? I have both the NB2 and Fishbeard in Spine-Tek and find I mostly grab the NB2, even though I do like the Fishbeard as well. I was considering getting a HE in PU however not sure how much overlap it will have with the NB2.

      @@jedalloyd hey mate, iv also got a spine tek NB2, and PU fish beard. I love the NB2 for doing airs and fun stuff etc but I find it doesn’t handle too well when it starts getting a bit solid or slabby.
      The HE I’ll for me is my fav all round board. Grab it 90% of the time for 1ft surf all the way up to 2x overhead, mines spine tek & id get another, does get a little skittery when it’s big and onshore, PU would be great for that but I’m gonna buy another one exactly the same this year, only other board I’d like to try is the CI 2 Pro

    What would you recommend if not the Happy Everyday for an everyday/average conditions board?

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  10 місяців тому

      Hey Max! We didn’t gel with the HE but that doesn’t mean you won’t. I have a friend that loves his HE in spinetech. I would strongly recommend looking for a CI demo day and grabbing a few models to try out. There’s nothing better than getting your feet in the wax. Sadly, the last fall demo day was about a month ago so you’ll have to wait until the spring for the demo days to return. With that said, I love my rocket wide and Flat Earth, brother # 1 loves his fishbeard and g-skate while brother #3 loves his sharpeye inferno 72. Each board has pros and cons but we’ve loved our experiences on those boards albeit there was no clear consensus among all three brothers. Check out the other board videos for insights and hit us up with questions if you got ‘em. Would be curious to see where you land!

    Hi guys, I hope you're doing well. I'm a big fan of your videos. I was wondering if you could share your thoughts and compare this with the OG Flyer surfboard for me. What are the differences between them and in what conditions would you use one over the other? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Рік тому +2

      Hey Ed! Appreciate the feedback! We’re big fans of your comment, keep them coming 👊🏼 Here’s my quick before-the -baby-wakes-up take on the two boards.
      The Flyer Family was one of the original CI Board families. Flyer ➡️ New Flyer ➡️ OG Flyer. If you look at same dims for each:
      HE: modern outline that is more forgiving. Thicker, softer rails, flatter rocker.
      OGF: about 1-1.5 liters thinner for the same dims, has sharper rails (but no knife) and is at its best in better surf.
      I enjoyed the OGF when I was younger, thinner, and surfing 3-4 times a week in good surf. Of the two, the HE is more my style now. Heavier, softer, more forgiving and charges whatever surf is on tap for the day. Getting old sucks.
      Conclusion (if you’re still reading this), remember when Ke11y exclusively ripped on elf shoes in the 80s/90s? At the time, the Flyer was a MAJOR departure from the accepted design. The OG Flyer is a modernized version of that and part of the “impetus” for the modern designs we see now. Think Timmy Curran’s airs ➡️ Italo or Lisa Anderson ➡️ Carissa Moore/Steph. Anyhoo, sounds like a decent Marvel origin story to me - or maybe more Coppola’s style?
      Oh shoot, almost forgot the required surfboard disclaimer *mileage will depend on skill level and waves!

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Рік тому +2

      Shooooot, we haven’t had the pleasure of testing the Pyzalien 2. The HE and PA2 are similar boards for similar surfers in similar conditions. And they are both from similarly awesome companies. (Catch my drift here?) you can’t go wrong but one may help you have more “fun” in the water than the other. To determine that, we see two schools of thought.🤓
      1. Go with the board/company/design that you know best. Familiar territory means no downtime spent “learning”.
      2. Go with the board/company/design that is outside your comfort zone. A new and unfamiliar board could unlock your inner Ke11y and you could be wizard sleeving Pipe in no time.
      *Or you buy both, start a UA-cam channel reviewing surfboards, and accept the tax write offs 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

      Goooood question! We have found that if we stick with our preferred volume (~27.5L) the rest of the dims fall into place. 5’7 was too small and 5’9 was too big…but turned out our Goldilocks pick wasn’t right either! And based on what you’ve shared (and plenty of others), the Spine-Tek model would have been just right 😂 🤷🏻‍♂️
