The KTM 390 Adventure and the BMW G310GS are your gateway into the world of the premium entry-level adventure touring segment. But, which one should you choose? Watch this features based comparison to get the answers. Also, which one will you choose? So let us know in the comments below.
People don't realise the service interval of BMW G310GS is longer, so the cost is similar to KTM.... BMW G310GS is a all rounded bike and a comfortable long tourer
Even though KTM is better bike here , I would still choose BMW. Because of the brand value and showoff factor. KTM bikes in India are available in 125cc onwards, on the other hand BMW only have 310cc bikes in India as their cheapest models.
Many rider says i also like ktm.. but every ktm has stiffer side ride quality. I mean suspension stiffer side. It hurts on patch roads n in future otherwise ktm 390 rocks
While ktm service is cheaper bmw demands a service every 10k kms whereas ktm needs it every5k kms. That should be factored in. Of course parts are cheaper in the ktm
Cheaper parts? Just the cornering ABS with traction control, the maps and the colored TFT display have the value of the BMW wheels. About motorbikes, BMW is the greediest company I've ever seen in my life. In 2017 you had still to sweat and pay to have the dual channel ABS on a 12.000 euros, entry level, 650cc, bike. KTM leads in tech and security, BMW follows. People buy it to feel cool and to have back the brand value in the market, depending on the model. The only people in the world that really use and understand the quality of 'Real GSs' are Deutsch, British and Italians, the same that use the extraordinary quality of the Adventure series of KTM.
BMW Service and spare parts cost is also on a premium side and can’t be affordable for many especially for replacement of components 😭. Also good luck with service network during long distance since it’s only available on major cities 😓
If there was Xpulse with MT-15 engine, these would be the impractical choices. Adventure 390 is duke with 20mm more ground clearance and larger sprockets and BMW is just tall g310r. These two are break into parts while offroading and look at those alloys. If engine swap is legal in India. I would've bought xpulse and swapped it with mt 15 engine. Indian roads aren't for more than 200cc and 90 kmph is safe speed. Why would anyone need more than 90 kmph for touring. Are people touring and enjoying view or straight up racing? Xpulse body isn't gonna break and mt-15 engine is never gonna disappoint. @Yamaha if you're seeing this make a adventure bike out of oil cooled, non-slipper clutch with mt-15 engine.
Who said bigger engines = more speed? Bigger engines = more power. You can still do the same 90KMPH with ease on bigger engines. The engines at 90KMPH will be less stressed in 350CC+ than a 200CC bike for sure.
@@darani123 Have you ever ridden R15, Duke 390, G310r and Himalayan. G310r starts to give vibes more than 85, duke 390 is life less below 5000 RPM and in 6th gear 5000 RPM is will be at 110-115 KMPH. Himalayan will always gives you vibes at seat and pegs whatever the speed and R15 with that VVA technology it will be electric motor. Also expect for dirt bikes no other company uses a thumper for more than 200cc. Duke 390 is used in wide variety of dirt, endurance etc genre and G310r is TVS engine.
@Karthik if they are not hard core Adventure tourers then it is always better to get their naked siblings. Even big automotive journalists mocked Adventure 390 for being a Duke with panels. If you think 120 KMPH is slow then here's a fact if you sneeze at 120 kmph you would've travelled 100 ft in that period.
@Karthik Looks like you know bikes from reviews more than riding them. Let me spill some truths. If you're buying something from budget then either you're buying it from hard earned money or getting into something. The hard earned money will take most of your time. You won't have much time to have fun. The suspension you're taking about its not gonna make a difference. I think you haven't ridden many bikes back to back. What bike do you think can do it all. You need multiple bikes to do multiple things. Your adv on budget spents most of the time in city commuting. You aren't getting my point. If you want to do adventure there is no rule you should do it on specified bike. Indian Forest Department gives Hero Glamour to their officers and they are gonna encounter bad routes even most of riders ever seen. We're talking about value for money and budget advs can't pass. They can't do what they promise and nakeds are just fine. There is a guy reached Leh on XL 100 and There is this lady reached Australia on Dominor 400. Adventure is mindset not bike.
Sorry for late reply. But 90kmph is not a safe riding speed for everyone. I feel confident and safe around 110kmph, on highway touring ofcourse. And I got plenty of roads here to touch even 120-130kmph constantly (not recommended) And btw a 300cc+ bike will always be less stressed at 100+ kmph than a 200cc+ bike. I got plenty of bikes in my family and overall did like 120000km+ A ktm with adv setup will be my preference to ride in Indian city traffic+some highway because as you have already said indian roads are not perfect. For touring a dominar400 will do better job at 110kmph at less money. Edit: also did ride like 20k km+ on MT15, FZ FI V3. They do not stand in competition compared to D400, KTM390ADV or even simple ktm200. Since people going to invest hard earned money, they will always look for an A-I-O deal (all in one). And if you can afford petrol prices always go for a bigger engine not for speed or power but for less stress on engine. For ADV: a HIMALAYAN has no match. Rest all are pseudo-adv. I don't think bmw & ktm are looking for Himalayan customer. They are making bikes meant for indian road in the name of adv bike.
With almost ₹40k saved, you can use that money for the maintenance of this bike for the next 4 years easily. And i think the bmw will have a better resale value than the KTM. Also I can finally say I have a BMW😜
Thanks for your video. I was very confused about both of these bikes. I have short listed these two bike for my first and new adventure bike. However I am using Honda shine for daily commuting. I think KTM is better than BMW but I like the looks of BMW. My budget is ₹3.70 maximum.
Yes, the GS looks better than the 390 Adventure, but the value proposition, performance and features, and the affordable service that KTM offers are unmatched by any manufacturer.
Why? KTM produces at the same technological level of BMW just giving more optionals in the package and never asking for ridiculous prices. Have you ever seen a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S/R?
BMW Service and spare parts cost is also on a premium side and can’t be affordable for many especially for replacement of components 😭. Also good luck with service network during long distance since it’s only available on major cities 😓
While more expensive the costs have come down over the years. Especially if you use 3rd party components. That said KTMs have far greater service reach so thats a big plus.

Which is best

10000% true
I think the KTMs power and ability to sit at highway speeds more easily gives it the win imo. I would definitely like to see a gs400 or something.
Yeah plus KTM ruins out the engine to pull more power which in long run is a bad consequence
Has anyone told you that you sound like MS Dhoni?

Fantastic work guys, the much needed one 👍
Thank you. Glad that you liked it. 😊
BMW isnt cheap
Mumbai on road 3.66 lakhs
16k crash guard
19k metal bash plate
4 lakh plus
adv 390 comes with both of them in 3.80
Great observation. BMW parts and service is indeed on the higher side.
I think TVS has a great chance to introduce the Tourer in the form of RR310
And they launched the Ronin 225 😑😑😑
plz chck fuel tank capacity in text on screen u given.
I really like them both, but hate those rims on both, will be looking for something else.
Very good video. Thanks very much.

Gs 310 is cheaper than Adventure 390 but it's service cost is much expensive than Adventure 390 😅
True that.
The fuel capacity at 4:43 is wrong/interchanged. Needs update/correction.

Considering the difference in pricing BMW seems to be a better choice than KTM.
Yes, the GS has a price advantage, but 390 Adventure's value proposition is unbeatable. Moreover, BMW's service cost is significantly higher.
