I have the same issue as Jodie, being only 5ft 5inches tall (and a geriatric 60 year old with a bad back) 800mm is about as much as I can handle. Fair play to Jodie for giving it a go.
I heard on another channel the display of the BMW 310 GS being compared to a Casio watch from the 1980's. Watching that video I can see the comparison :) KTM Low seat would help get the seat height a little better and also with the added slope should cup the butt a little more similar to the BMW perhaps. You could also add a lowering kit, but that would decrease the ground clearance a little. But it may not be a big deal if you aren't doing anything too gnarly or advanced off-road.
Hi Jo. Try looking at the camber of the road when you stop and shift your bum to the side of the seat you want to put your foot down. You will get used to it and it's easy as.
Would love to see Jodie get her confidence up on gravel and sand after a couple of runs off road. Seeing how much she's progressed since her license, gravel and sand should be the next thing.
Always carry a hockey puck or smash an aluminium drink can to put under the side stand when off the tarmac. Serious folks just weld a “foot” plate or metal to their side stand so they can use it anywhere and not worry about the stand sinking into the ground and the bike falling over.
How tall are you both? If you don't mind me asking. I found yesterday that at 5'7" a V-Strom is too tall for me. It was in the dealer with not much room to swing a leg over tho.
I have the BMW and it has been lowered 2 inches. I’m 5’8” and it works great for me. The bike handles even better actually due to the lower center of gravity.
Morning nick and jodie. I can see nicks wallet coming out (ktm lowed. nice seat) one happy jodie But in saying that jodie looks right on the BMW. Sorry one negative on the video.. WHERE'S THE CAKE AND COFFEE STOP LOL. ride safe you both. Old dave.
Husky 401 Svartpillian is 20mm lower & you get a lowering kit 25-35mm but 401 has a piddler tank 9.5L so I'd be looking for gas ⛽ station at 160 & top up at 195km to leave a about 2L in tank to stop grit in fuel pump, filters. People bolt 5L reserve bike tank to the frame that lock to bike.
KTM 390 with lowering kit be about 5-10mm higher & Husqvarna Svartpillian 401 will be 5-10mm lower with the Lowering kit.401 has a frame you bolt stuff to rank bags, gas ⛽ tanks on side of rear rack but has spoked wheels.I would go for KTM with lowering kit it only 5-10mm higher which should be ok.

It has the added benefit of being light too which is a plus
I like the KTM but have heard too many stories regarding engine problems. Cost was another issue. The BMW was cheaper here in Florida.
Yeah the bmw is a great choice

yes good shout, we have one somewhere!
I have tried to find a foot pad for my BMW 310R and still cannot find one to bolt on. JB Weld to the rescue.

I'm 5ft9 and Jo is 5ft7. Nc750x would be a better alternative from the v strom if you want a lower seat height
@@NickandJodie I was just looking at one on a dealer's web site now. Cheers for that.

Baby Beemer all day. Go Jo.
Ye - the 390 gives allot 4 the 💰💰and also the valve service each 10-12000km, instead of ~ 20000 ( on the 310... ) 😁

Jodie don't swap him...The GS is a better bike, the KTM is high maintenance LOL, great post guys
Good job I'm a mechanic 😆
Compared to the 390 the BMW 310 _is_ B.M. The 390 is ALMOST a unicorn. It's a fantastic bike.
Nice vid, thx
S
I love unicorns 🦄
BM???
Yeah no the 310 is a fantastic bike. I own one.
Darren at MCT could Always lower the ktm he's near Stowmarket Suffolk, used him for years.
Cheers Brian
To tall for Jodie need a lowering kit.
